| Eric Doyle asks Michael about his lasers (Doyle). | |
Laser manipulation would require a laser to exist in the first place. I don't think Michael is manipulating lasers--in fact the article never mentions manipulation again after the title. I think there's a better name for this ability. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:48, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- So, laser generation? Laser creation? Let's have a discussion for this name. Radicell 06:50, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- "Laser generation" is a good start. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:54, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- I agree with Ryan. He doesn't manipulate them, he creates them. I'd say Laser generation sounds good. Super-Hiro 08:23, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- Emission would be similar to generation; but would be more consistent with existing naming conventions. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/14/2008 09:24 (EST)
- And yet we call Lighting just Lightning. Shouldn't it be lasers because Eric specfically calls the "Lasers". Because we've done it with Lightning, why not Lasers?--Dman dustin 13:23, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- Sounds like a valid point to me, too. (Admin 13:31, 14 October 2008 (EDT))
- Although laser emission sounds better, I agree with Dman. On a related note, "laser" is an acronym for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation" and that should be noted in the article.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:24, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- I second that. It sounds like a reasonable argument to call it Lasers. --Pinkkeith 14:25, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- User:Shadowulf1 15:47, 14 October 2008 (EDT) I still think laser emission is reasonable. Just like lightning should be called lightning generation or lightning emission. No one likes the name change to laser emission?
- I agree with Shadowulf1 that I think the name Laser emission should stay. I get that highly scientific names are not easy recognisable (though I personally like highly scientific names, but that's not relevant) however oversimplification is another thing. LightPhoenix 16:35, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- Exactly. The name 'Laser Emission' (or Generation) describes accurately the ability. --Litox 23:34, 14 October 2008 (EDT)

- Calling it "lasers" works for me. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:51, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- Yup, Lasers would be fine with me too Super-Hiro 16:34, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- Since OMGLASERSPEWPEW isn't a viable choice, I'll go with Lasers as well. :] GabrielPetrelli 16:38, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- Maybe we need to modify the naming convention to permit that. . . ;) (Admin 16:52, 14 October 2008 (EDT))
- I actually would have preferred "MICHAELSFIRINHISLAZORS," but like everyone else, I'll go with Lasers too. Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 19:03, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- There's also the ever-popular 'laserkinesis', but I didn't suggest that...so don't hurt me. I never liked lightning, personally. I'd vote for laser generation. --Yamawhata? 21:16, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- 'OMGLASERSPEWPEW' sounds really, really silly. And that's actually the very first thing that comes to my mind whenever I read the word 'Laser'. --Litox 23:39, 14 October 2008 (EDT)
- I think Gabriel was just joking, but I think it's okay to rename this now. Or do we need an official consensus?--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:55, 14 October 2008 (EDT)

- Lasers? I can imagine this scenario before Michael was killed: "Hi my name is Michael and i have the ability of lasers." Personally the wording doesn't sound correcton. Laser emission sounds brisk and proper.--ACDC1989 05:53, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
- User:Shadowulf1 14:33, 15 October 2008 (EDT) Thank you, ACDC, these people always havce a problem with every edit I make to this site; I think this name just makes sense.
- It does sound good, but I don't think you should have removed the Rename tag just yet. We're obviously still discussing it here. =/ Michael DIDN'T say "Hi my name is Michael and i have the ability of lasers", because grammatically that does sound awkward. Perhaps we should use Lasing (as in the verb, to lase) [[1]]. Specifically, "to give off coherent light, as in a laser." This matches Lightning as we currently use it. GabrielPetrelli 14:50, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
- Only, "lasing" would be another form/tense of the word and in the story it was explicitly called "lasers".--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:52, 15 October 2008 (EDT)
- True. What was the quote, "...those lasers of yours"? I personally think Lasing is the better ability name as its the proper tense of the same word. Again, Lasers doesn't bother me. I just figure it'd compromise the grammatical awkwardness while sticking closely to what was provided in Doyle's quote. GabrielPetrelli 20:18, 15 October 2008 (EDT)

Those in favor of lasing:
- GabrielPetrelli 20:18, 15 October 2008 (EDT) (In line with "lightning"; alternate tense of Lasers. See above for detailed thoughts. Would be for Lasers if this doesn't get any other votes. >_> )
Those in favor of lasers:
- --MiamiVolts (talk) 17:52, 15 October 2008 (EDT) (since it was used in the novel and is already in noun form)
