In reality, clonazepam is primarily used to treat epilepsy, anxiety, and mania since it increases production of GABA, a neurotransmitory amino-acid which inhibits neuron activity. A known and common side effect of high doses of the drug is anterograde amnesia, the inability to create memories for a period of time after the administration of the drug. It appears that the Company's use of the drug is primarily for this purpose.

Company Man

At Primatech Paper, Mr. Bennet takes a syringe and a vial out of a cabinet. At his home, when Ted begins to become radioactive, Mr. Bennet digs into his jacket pocket and shows Matt the syringe. Bennet fills the syringe with the tranquilizer in the vial. He tries to get close to Ted, but is unable, so he gives the syringe to Claire. Despite her burning flesh, she injects the clonazepam into Ted, who explodes.
