I just don't get it

  • Why would they capture him? How is breathing underwater dangerous for the society??? :S--NiveKJ13 (talk2me) 08:08, 17 February 2009 (EST)
    • He could use it. For instance, he could sneak into a navy base...hide in the water and kill someone who passes by without anyone knowing...and he could hide on the bottom of the ocean afterward without anyone being able to get to him. It's not dangerous in itself but could be used dangerously. Golden Monkey 08:47, 17 February 2009 (EST)
    • They're tracking everyone with abilities, no matter how nonthreatening the ability is. But Alex's ability can be used dangerously as Golden Monkey said. Anyways, I think Alex has the ability of lung adaptation like Bianca Karina. But we'll see about that through the future episodes.--Alen76 09:38, 17 February 2009 (EST)
  • Aquaman has underwater breathing.
    • And other, more useful, abilites. Bloodbath 22:30, 17 February 2009 (EST)
  • yeah

lung adaptation

  • why this isnt the same power as bianca ,i think we should merge the 2 pages
    • Nothing suggests he can breath with poison gas or things like that, with what we have now, his ability is only similar to Bianca's. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:02, 17 February 2009 (EST)
      • I agree with Intuitive Empath, he says he can breathe underwater whereas Lung adaptation is adapting the persons lungs to any environment, so until he breathes when their is poisonous gas around for example these two should stay separate. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 12:11, 17 February 2009 (EST)

        • Besides, didn't Bianca had a limit to how much time she could stay underwater? Alex doesn't seems to have one.--Ikkian 12:14, 17 February 2009 (EST)

Talk 12:16, 17 February 2009 (EST)

            • If she had, it was never mentioned, all they said is that she was capable of being underwater for more than two hours. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:16, 17 February 2009 (EST)
              • No, Bianca's AT profile said she could hold her breath for an indefinite amount of time. I think Alex and Bianca probably have the same ability, so I'm hoping the next episode shows him breathing in knockout gas so we can merge the pages. --Piemanmoo 14:56, 17 February 2009 (EST)
  • but maybe he doesnt know he ca breath with poisonuos gas , like parkman at the begining he only thought he can read mnds , but then ... so is not conclusive
  • isn't it possible that he could just live without breathing? Bianca's lungs adapted to any situation but maybe Alex just doesn't need oxygen. --Peter 20:57, 21 February 2009 (EST)
    • Well, he says he can breathe underwater, so in a way, he needs oxygen, Bianca on the other hand could adapt to any situation, we don't know if that extends to no oxygen. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 21:55, 21 February 2009 (EST)
  • Alex's ability should be called "Aquatic Breathing", and Bianca's should be called Infinit Lung Capacity as she can hold her breath for an unlimited amount of time. They are not the same, Alex can breath underwater "like a fish" but bianca can only hold her breath. I say infinit lung capacity as she is seen in one of the graphic novels helping gael breath.
    • You're quite late on this, Bianca's power was explicitly named by her AT profile, and underwater breathing comes from Alex's description of his ability, and it's most likely to stay like this. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 17:25, 8 April 2009 (EDT)

Graphic Novels?

  • Why is this ability classified in Graphic Novels? --Ikkian 12:06, 17 February 2009 (EST)
    • It was because that's (so far) the only place it's actually been demonstrated even though he mentioned it in Building 26. (Admin 12:10, 17 February 2009 (EST))
      • OK, I really wasn't sure at which moment one's ability gets transfered over, thanks.--Ikkian 12:14, 17 February 2009 (EST)
        • When an ability has appeared in a webisode or episode then the ability is listed on the ability portal, if the ability only appears in a graphic novel it stays on the graphic novel portal. Hope that helps :) --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Lamest Ability

Talk 18:56, 20 February 2009 (EST)

      • Hair manipulation would be awesome. Especially since I'm trying to grow a beard right now. :s But I think we're confusing "lame" and "useless" here... -Sincerely, Thrashmeister » talk- 23:13, 21 February 2009 (EST)
  • Every ability from the assignment tracker is useless. -- Tristan0709 talk 18:21, 21 February 2009 (EST
  • noooooooo , waht about ´pyrokinesis , sound manipulation , magnetism , telepathy ,etc ,etc
  • And the lamest is ominingualism
    • I'd turn Sylar on someone to get that one! --Ikkian 21:20, 21 February 2009 (EST)
  • just get a translator --Cj31094 13:25, 23 February 2009 (EST)
  • now i know that it isnt lung adaptation , i think that this is the lamest--Cj31094 00:20, 24 February 2009 (EST)

ok i have been an avid x-men reader for ages now im a heroes fan , i have to say the abilities in this show are awsome so are the ones in the comics and webepisodes, so there is no lamest ability to me as an ability can be useful mediumship and sound absorbtion, the reaso nwhy most of you guys think some abilities are lame because the abilities are not explored that much. for example crumpling, nerve gas emission, chlorine gas exudation, trevor's ability, acid secretion, luminescence, primal rage, gravitational manipulation, ability supercharging and body insertion. all of those abilities are not lame! they are dangerous and can harm people, nerve gas and chlorine gas emiters are not a laughing matter they kill you painfully! also supercharging is also useful if you have allies. and most of the abilties in the assignment tracker are not explored come on instead of creating new characters with new powers use ones in the assignment tracker! sorry for getting carried away thats all i have to say! oh i love under water breathing!--Zoga78 02:06, 25 February 2009 (EST)

After my pen going dead in a meeting, I take back my previous statement about imprinting being lame. :p--Cro Magnon 11:55, 25 February 2009 (EST)

  • This argument is stupid... :) But I do hate mediumship. it doesnt fit the genre. --Action Figure 00:38, 3 March 2009 (EST)

Underwater kiss

Considering Alex's latest use of his power, I'd say it's very definitely NOT a lame power.  :) --Cro Magnon 13:33, 3 March 2009 (EST) no sense

Lead Image and Caption

I think that the picture from the GN is a better lead picture than this one. The GN picture showed him underwater, this picture shows Claire and him kissing underwater, which isn't a superpower. Also "Alex and Claire kiss underwater"?!? Most captions are a clear example of the ability in use, like "West hovers outside of Claire's window". Kissing can happen both underwater and on land. And the lead picture doesn't make it clear they're underwater, either.--Peter 20:09, 4 March 2009 (EST)

  • We always use episode images if possible, and the caption is like that cause we don't have a non-speculative explanation to the picture. Did he extend his ability to her? Did he exhale oxygen to Claire? I think the second option is the most likely, but both of them are speculative. I put the least speculative thing I could think. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 20:33, 4 March 2009 (EST)
    • I personally suspect the second option, too. It's rather common in other works where one person is able to breath underwater. However, I opted to make it generic rather than speculative. I will admit, though, in terms of demonstrating his ability I prefer the graphic novel one currently. While there's an image from the episode it's up for debate as to whether it clearly demonstrates the ability. Unless there's a clearer image I'd personally recommend going back to the one from the graphic novel, but I don't mind too much either way. (Admin 20:47, 4 March 2009 (EST))
      • I changed the main image (and the page). It was just bugging me so much.... --Peter 19:38, 12 April 2009 (EDT)
  • Omg. The episode ability page used to be made of win, but is slowly turning into horrific fail. I do not see why we have to change the image to that. --Lolwut 16:51, 13 April 2009 (EDT)
    • There was a consensus to that, and there are really only two images that show his ability the one at the moment and the episode one. The episode doesn't really show it well. I think the GN version is better. If you would like to put forward arguments and specific pictures you prefer we could discuss each one. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 17:15, 13 April 2009 (EDT)

          • We always use episode images. It just doesn't look right. This picture is better than the one of them kissing I think. You can see the top of the water over their heads. Any one agree?-- Catalyst · Talk · HL 21:13, 13 April 2009 (EDT)
            • I don't mind that picture but what would the caption be? (At the time of this picture Alex hadn't extended his ability to her yet.) --Peter 22:11, 13 April 2009 (EDT)
              • Alex underwater, does not need to breath. Hows that? --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 14:39, 14 April 2009 (EDT)

                • I'm good with it. --Peter
                  • If you guys think an episode image would be better, someone could upload an image that shows Alex just ok underwater with Claire almost drowning, it would show that's he breathing underwater when someone next to him isn't. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:11, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
                    • It's been a while since the episode aired but i remember Alex going into the water before Claire and they showed him breathing underwater. That would be the perfect image. --Peter 22:10, 14 April 2009 (EDT)
                      • Agreed. --Lolwut 09:29, 15 April 2009 (EDT)

New Image

I changed the lead image. Everyone okay with it? --Peter 17:49, 19 April 2009 (EDT)

  • I like it, that's what I had in mind. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 17:50, 19 April 2009 (EDT)
    • I thought that Alex had been in the Water without Claire, but I rewatched the episode last night and I was wrong.. Alex went in the water at the same time as Claire.. This picture is the best we're gonna get... --Peter 17:56, 19 April 2009 (EDT)

Aquatic breathing

E.P.I.C explicitly calls it "aquatic breathing." Should the name get changed?--Potatoes (talk) 05:34, 2 October 2015 (EDT)

  • I think so. Our "underwater breathing" comes from a canon source, but it wasn't explicitly named. I am in favor of "aquatic breathing". -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:11, 2 October 2015 (EDT)
  • I think "aquatic breathing" sounds more accurate, so yes. -Kon (talk) 17:54, 4 October 2015 (EDT)
