Theory Citations Notes
Adam Monroe was originally born in the future. To "imprison" him, the Haitian wiped his memory and Kaito transported him back in time. None + Bob in (Out of Time) mentions that Adam was imprisoned and managed to escape two weeks ago.

+ Adam is an empath who regained his ability to time travel when he met Hiro in feudal Japan. Thus, allowing him to escape.
- If Adam is an empath, he would have absorbed the time-travelling power of the person who sent him back, making it an ineffective solution.
- If his memory was wiped, he would not be seeking revenge from the Company.
- This theory fails to explain the charred body in Out of Time.

Adam Monroe was originally born in the future, Kensei was a creation made by Hiro who (in the future) sends Adam into the past pre 1671 leaving him in England (in addition to having his memory erased by the Haitian). In actuality, Adam Monroe (now Kensei) dies sometime between the explosion at Whitebeard's camp and his actual birth in the 1900s. None + Upon returning to the future, Hiro knows that if he kills Kensei/Adam in the future, the legend of Kensei would never come to be.
Adam Monroe is one of the men from the group of twelve. None + Heroes: The Mobile Game lists him as being one of the founders of the company.

- Adam Monroe is Kensei, and played by the same actor, shows no physical change or aging to be either unidentified men from the picture. (Out of Time)

- Although Anders' character states that he is Adam, this does not confirm anything. Kensei could still be in fact someone else and the other men in the picture could still be Monroe.

+ The real "Group Of Twelve"[1] has thirteen members, not twelve. Adam Monroe may be the thirteenth member.

+ Adam Monroe bears a physical resemblance to Arthur Petrelli.

- Peter would have recognized Adam as his father at the end of (Out of Time), assuming he had fully regained his memories. On the other hand, he hadn't regained his memory if he really met Adam in the 4 months before, but Adam may have lied, given that he had supposedly only escaped imprisonment by the company 2 weeks before.
- The elder Petrelli has to be healed by Linderman in War Buddies.
Adam Monroe is Elle's father. Elle's father appears to be a high member of the Company. (The Kindness of Strangers)
The other known Company founder names introduced (like Maury Parkman) seem to be pivotal to the plot of the volume.
+ If Elle's father is an as-yet-unseen character, than it makes sense that he would be the mysteriously hinted at Monroe.

+ Adam Monroe has been shown to have definite ties with Peter Petrelli. (The Line) Elle also has ties with Peter Petrelli. (Fight or Flight) If Adam is Elle's father, then that could explain why Adam had Elle looking for him.

- Adam is working against the Company, so he wouldn't want his daughter working for them.
+ Elle may not know Adam is no longer working for the Company.
- Elle's father has spoken with her since Adam's escape (Fight or Flight). It is unlikely that, where he Adam, he would fail to mention that the Company had held him prisoner
Adam Monroe is the hooded killer. Beeman's Interview confirms this, as he states david Anders played the hooded killer form episode one. + It appears that Adam is facing the Company based on the note that he left for Peter in Montreal, which explains why he would want to kill the others in the group of twelve.

+ Adam's, or rather Kensei's, ability to regenerate would allow him to get up from the jump and escape very quickly.

+ Since abilities can increase in power over time (a la Maury & Matt Parkman), it is highly likely that Adam's regeneration is much more advanced and efficient than Claire's

+ Adam swore that he would destroy everything Hiro loved, which would include killing his father.
- The killer might not be Adam because Kaito said something like 'I would have never expected it was you' before the killer pushed him off, if the killer was Adam then Kaito would have expected it to be him since the group of twelve locked Adam up.

+ Kaito may have pointed that out because Adam was supposed to be locked up, not roaming around.
Adam Monroe has the power of Empathic mimicry None + He is seen to be alive in the present (Out of Time), possibly due to mimicking Hiro's space-time manipulation.
- Anti-aging could be a side-effect of his rapid cell regeneration.

+ This could be why he's teamed up with Peter.
+ When Bob was showing Nathan the newspaper article talking about a snowstorm in Miami, he said it could have been a tsunami. This suggests Adam can manipulate the weather.

- Bob was probably referring to Adam convincing twelve individuals to save the world; one member of the group of the twelve saved Miami with his/her power.

+ Claude reacted to Peter's empathic mimicry as "Oh, one of those", suggesting that there might be others. Claude worked for the Company and may have met Adam.
+ Adam had no idea of his rapid cell regeneration until he was shot; it is likely he would have known of that gift from childhood. Empathic mimicry could explain both: the fake Kensei (How to Stop an Exploding Man) seems like he may have had rapid cell regeneration because he survived the initial chase of the horsemen.

- The fake Kensei survived because Hiro teleported him out of there. The decoy even chickened out and ran off because he saw the job as too dangerous. He would not have acted this way if he had the ability to regenerate.

+ It is unlikely that Rapid cell regeneration on its own would make Adam feel like a god, and Bob's line about changing weather (Out of Time) would be explained by this.

- Bob was probably referring to Adam convincing twelve individuals to save the world; one member of the group of the twelve saved Miami with his/her power.

- As with Peter, it would be quite likely that early manifestations of abilities learned using empathic mimicry would happen in the presence of the original hero. When he first finds he can regenerate, he is only in the presence of Hiro and his actions suggest he truly did not know how the regeneration happened.
- If Adam was an empath, he wouldn't need Peter to go back in time.

+ He never stated he needed Peter to go back in time, just that the two of them were to "change history". This may not be as literal as first assumed.

+ He may have gained Invisibility from Claude, and having a sense of humour, gone invisible for the photo, explaining why Arthur Petrelli is looking away.

Adam Monroe took the photograph of the group of twelve. None + While he is a "founder" of the company, he is not in the photograph.
Adam Monroe is not actually Takezo Kensei but in fact traveled back in time (with the aid of Peter Petrelli) to change history. Adam states that he and Peter are going to "change history". (Out of Time)

+ It is less likely that Adam Monroe is hundreds of years old.

- Rapid cell regeneration could easily explain his unaged appearance.
- Hiro killed "Kensei". One might make the argument that he could've healed from that, except for the fact that when Hiro picks up the mask, they show "Kensei"'s dead charred body.
- Given Adam/Kensei's penchant for using stand-ins, the corpse could easily be some unlucky disciple of White Beard
- Claire has healed back to normal from advanced radiation poisoning. (Company Man)

- There is no reason for Adam to go back into the past if he wasn't already there. The reason he wants to "change history" is because Hiro stole his princess.
- Adam was in feudal Japan not aware about his rapid cell regeneration until Hiro shows him. In Out of Time he is very much aware about that gift.

Adam Monroe killed Kaito Nakamura first and personally whereas he sent Maury Parkman to kill the other twelve elders. None + Monroe was embittered by Hiro who took his true love from him. As revenge, while Hiro was in the past, he "took" someone Hiro loves from him, his father.
Adam Monroe is not played by David Anders. None + The only character that has said Anders is Adam is Anders himself. No information linking the Adam Monroe that the twelve know to Anders has surfaced.
+ The note that is left for Peter, whether or not it is written by the real Adam, does not prove that Anders is Monroe.

+ The file that Bob has does not show any photos of Monroe.
+ If Monroe was indeed the founder of the company why would he leave himself out of the photo?

It's still possible that Anders plays Arthur Petrelli and that he considered Horn-rimmed glasses and side-burns to be cool when the photo was taken.
- Anders looks nothing like Petrelli in War Buddies.
- It's possible that he founded the company to look for Hiro, and that he didn't want Hiro recognizing him.

+ Bob implied to Nathan that Adam Monroe could control the weather, where Anders's character has Rapid Cell Regeneration. (Out of Time)

- Bob was probably referring to Adam convincing twelve individuals to save the world; one member of the group of the twelve saved Miami with his/her power.

+ Kensei, in the future, never states he is Adam Monroe, merely that he is "Adam". This takes place after Peter states aloud he knows of no one named Adam (in reference to the note left to him).

Adam Monroe is the father of Peter and Nathan. None + Claire may have inherited her rapid cell regeneration from Adam.
Adam Monroe has more than one power. None + Adam/Kensei already has Rapid Cell Regeneration. (Out of Time).

+ It can explain why Adam thought he was some kind of god after he met many evolved humans.

- He could think of himself as a God, due to his possible immortality/invincibility.
Adam Monroe, in Peter's storyline, is chronologically before Hiro's storyline. None + Adam tells Peter than they're going to "change history". He could have been taken back in time by Peter, and left there.

- He doesn't appear to have any memory of the future of anything when in Hiro's storyline.

Adam Monroe's primary motivation is still his anger toward Hiro Nakamura for stealing Yaeko's love from him. He swore to Hiro Nakamura that he would, for as long as he drew breath, lay waste to everything he cared about. (Out of Time) + Heroes is a simple series; it uses and expands on popular and common comic book concepts and gimmicks to create entertaining and impactful storylines. The notion of a villain who, for all his power and vision, is mostly motivated by a petty need for vengeance over a failed romance is exactly the type of familiar simplicity it would bring into such an otherwise dark and complicated story.
- Monroe's intentions extend far beyond Hiro. Bob has already explained that he envisions a world in which humanity has been "punished" with holocausts and plagues, and evolved humans have come into power over the rest of mankind.
+ Monroe may simply be intent on living up to his promise to stand against everything Hiro cherishes, interpreting that far more broadly than just killing his close friends and loved ones. When Monroe knew Hiro in 1671, Hiro made it very clear how important the ideal of heroism, the standard of compassion, and the use of power for causes of goodness were to him. Monroe may have become a true personification of evil, hoping to arbitrarily impose the opposites of those things onto the world as a grandiose means of achieving his revenge, even attempting to bring fellow evolved humans together and manipulate them into abusing their power.
+ Hiro also constantly made it clear how important the legend of Takezo Kensei was, both to the world as a part of its history and to himself personally. Because he believed Monroe was Takezo Kensei, it became very important to Hiro for Monroe himself to become a hero. Therefore, Monroe may consider it a part of his revenge against Hiro to deliberately live the life of a villain instead, betraying his own supposed destiny.

+ Adam Monroe has said to Peter Petrelli that the two of them "are going to change history." (Out of Time) This may very well entail going back in time with the intent to win back Yaeko's love, and therefore be his main intention.

Adam Monroe is somehow immortal. None + He was burnt to a crisp yet somehow manages to be alive four hundred years later.
- Given Adam/Kensei's penchant for using stand-ins, the corpse could easily be some unlucky disciple of White Beard

+ The Company merely locked him up instead of killing him, despite the danger he poses.
+ The Company was probably researching the Shanti virus with his elimination in mind. Claire would be the ideal test subject.
+ Aging is caused by degeneration and death of cells in the body, Adam's ability could prevent this, thus, effectively "locking" him, chronologically, in at the time of his power's manifestation (the eclipse that occurred as Hiro appeared mirrors the eclipse that triggered/awakened the abilities in the other heroes)

Adam Monroe is the original hero and is the ancestor of all the heroes in the show None

+ He is likely more than 400 years old. In that time he may have been with hundreds of women, many of whom would have had babies. We know that the powers are hereditary (in many cases), so it would be quite possible that he fathered many children throughout his lifetime. As those children grew up and reproduced, they would pass along his genes to their kids as well.

+ We know that he had traveled a lot even before meeting Hiro, he could easily had sexual relations with many women from around the world.
+ His facial features (blond hair, blue eyes and even white skin) are recessive, meaning that wouldn't show up in a child from a mother with dark hair, eyes and skin.

+ His name "Adam" is perfectly fitting for a character who is the original of a species.

Adam Monroe can create copies of himself through his regenerative power. None

+ We see his charred body in Out of Time, yet he is seen in the future.

- Given Adam/Kensei's penchant for using stand-ins, the corpse could easily be some unlucky disciple of White Beard

+ He was able to witness the kiss between Hiro and Yaeko, even through he should be still in Whitebeard's camp given the amount time that passed.
Low order organisms such as flat-worms can reproduction asexually through transverse fission.

Adam Monroe is using Peter as a replacement for Hiro None + He seemed to genuinely like having a partner like Hiro, and given that Peter has the power of Time Manipulation, he would make the perfect replacement for the partner that betrayed him
