Bob, puts a "meatball Hiro sandwich" on the board as a weekly special, as a gesture of friendship towards Hiro. It's a meatball sub doused in teriyaki sauce. (Chapter 15)

Charlie shows Hiro a photo from 1976 at the Burnt Toast Diner's grand opening. Bob is in the picture (back when he had some teeth) with his arm slung around Barbie Travis. (Chapter 16)

On a day when the diner is particularly busy, Bob is "dinging the hell out of bell" as all the customers' orders come up at once. (Chapter 19)

From outside the Burnt Toast Diner, Hiro watches Charlie chatting with Bob, who is relaxing with a beer, his chef's hat crumpled on the stool next to him. When Hiro enters the diner, Bob barely glances up. Bob mumbles, "I gotta go clean the grill," and disappears into the back. (Chapter 22)

When Hiro comes to, he presumes that Bob has left the diner. (Chapter 23)
