George Takei is the American film and television actor who portrays Kaito Nakamura.


Born in Los Angeles, CA to Japanese-American parents, George was held in an interment camp as a child during World War II. While attending the University of California at Berkeley, George began his acting career as a voice actor, redubbing the monster movie classic Rodan into English. Since then, he also worked on the video Scooby-Doo and the Samurai Sword, and the animated television show Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

George is most famous for his portrayal of Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the Starship Enterprise, on the original Star Trek series and in the first six films. However, he has added over one hundred other film and television credits to his name over the years. He also serves as the official announcer for The Howard Stern Show. He appeared in an episode of Thank God You're Here, and in the 2008 reality show I'm a Celebrity...Get Me out of Here!

George is highly politically active. In 1973, he ran for a seat on the Los Angeles City Council. In October 2005, George revealed publicly that he is homosexual, and has gone on to champion a number of gay and lesbian causes, including extensive work with the Human Rights Campaign.



  • The asteroid formerly known as 1994 GT9, located between Mars and Jupiter, was renamed for George Takei by the International Astronomical Union's Committee on Small Body Nomenclature: 7307 Takei.
  • On September 14th, 2008, Takei and his partner of more than twenty years, Brad Altman, were married.
  • George Takei came third in the British program I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
  • In The Trip, Part 1, while Hiro Nakamura's memory is scrambled, he quotes George Takei's catchphrase by saying, "Oh my."
