Paulette Hawkins was the mother of D.L. and grandmother of Micah, who she adored, but was on bad terms with D.L.'s wife Niki, not only because of her belief she wasn't taking proper care of Micah, but their differing beliefs of D.L.'s innocence. She was an evolved human with the ability to reverse & manipulate the effects of the abilities of others around her.
Character History
One Giant Leap
After burying Linderman's thugs, Niki and Micah go to Micah's grandmother's home. Paulette runs to meet them. She hugs Micah and tells Niki that she looks thin. Inside, Paulette and Niki tensely discuss Micah, his incarcerated father, and Niki's parenting. Paulette says she can give her grandson a better home environment than Niki, but Niki counters by pointing out that Paulette's son ended up in jail. Paulette insists that D.L. is a good man, and Niki shows Paulette the skull ring, asking her mother-in-law if she recognizes it. Niki tells her that it belonged to one of the men that D.L. murdered. She says that all of D.L.'s crew wore these rings, but Grandma just says that D.L. wouldn't murder anyone. Niki theorizes that D.L. robbed Mr. Linderman of two million dollars, then killed his crew. Paulette believes he was framed. "He'd be rotting in some prison if he hadn't escaped," she says. Niki, upset, tells her mother-in-law that she wants her out of Micah's life. When Paulette refuses, Niki says, "You have no idea what I am capable of." Micah and Niki leave.
Graphic Novel:The Kill Squad, Part 3
It was revealed that The Company, in order to stop her from constantly interfering with Niki and Daniel Linderman's respective agendas, was bagged and kept in lockdown until someone could figure out what to do with her. Paulette, along with Brendan Lewis, are freed from their cells and put with the Kill Squad, and sent with them to Guyana to cover up the aftermath of an evolved human who recently discovered his ability; specifically a massive, and easily-detectable, crator.
With Gael Cruz ordering Paulette to be brought back in one piece as soon as possible, Paulette travelled by freighter and helicopter to the crator, with the Kill Squad protecting her. As soon as Lewis was in position, Squad Commander Sean Fallon asked her to use her ability on him at it's fullest. Paulette initially resisted, as it would kill him, but Fallon assured Paulette by doing this, it would help people and would fulfill the deal Paulette made; completing the mission, in exchange for her allowing to see Micah. Apologizing to Lewis, Paulette used her ability to make Lewis transform himself into an inert tree, and spread the foliage to cover the crator.
Fallon, as it turned out, was lying. Fallon had a strong hatred for evolved humans. He mentally ranted on how these people with powers all talk about making the world a better place, but innocent lives kept getting ruined. Fallon intended to use his team to put an end to that and "set things right", and not stopping until they have killed every last evolved human. So when Fallon was informed Gael was on the radio and wanted a status report, Fallon reported they had accomlished the mission, but lost Paulette. Just as Paulette asked what he meant by this, Fallon signalled for Joseph "Joe" Gallagher to shoot her in the head, killing her. Fallon, as he signalled for the chopper, told his men that "this all stays between us".
Graphic Novel:Hindsight
Gael, who has been placed in holding cell by Bianca until he calms down (his paranoia out of control about Evs Dropper), makes his one phone call to Fallon. Upon learning they "lost" Paulette, he initially questions on what they mean exactly, but tells them to forget it, as Paulette, according to Gael, was "inconsequential".
