The Haitian enters Claire's room and places his hand over her mouth. He finally speaks, telling her that he works for her father, who sent him here to make her forget what she knows. He admits to erasing the memories of Lyle Bennet and Zach, even to the point of erasing Zach's memory of his friendship with Claire, and to erasing Sandra Bennet's memories many times. ===Company Man===
Fourteen years ago, Mr. Bennet meets the Haitian for the first time when the Haitian erases Sandra Bennet's memories of finding incriminating evidence about Mr. Bennet's secret life. The Haitian is sent by Thompson so that they will not need to kill Sandra to contain the company secret.

In the present, Mr. Bennet discovers that the Haitian can talk and that he has been helping Claire. The Haitian leads Claire, Sandra, and Lyle to safety from the Bennets' home and away from Ted Sprague who was holding them hostage. Mr. Bennet reports the Haitian to Thompson for protecting Claire, and pretends that he never knew of Claire's ability. Bennet is then sent to kill the Haitian, but instead colludes with the Haitian to take Claire to safety, and cover it up by injuring Bennet on the bridge with a gun and "going deep" to clear Bennet's memory of anything that will lead the The Company to Claire.

Talking to Mr. Bennet after erasing Matt Parkman's memory, the Haitian remembers a story about himself as a young boy in his village in Haiti and his father Guillame. After the Tonton Macoutes come to his village to find his father, Guillame uses his ability to disable them. When the Haitian comes to his father, Guillame's ability becomes dampened from the Haitian's ability, allowing one of the "boogeymen" to shoot Guillame.

Graphic Novel:It Takes a Village, Part 2
Graphic Novel:It Takes a Village, Part 3
The Haitian remembers venturing through a forest with his father, seeking the crossroads for "penance". After they arrive at the crossroads, they pitch camp and his father tells him the story of the serpent and the crane. The Haitian says that that night, he dreamed only of snakes with no teeth and a crane with a broken neck. The next morning, they come to the crossroads and the Haitian sees many skulls and an axe. His father commands him to take the blade and charges at him with the axe, saying that he wants to fly again.

Graphic Novel:It Takes a Village, Part 4
At the crossroads, the Haitian is a victim to his father's power and experiences horrible sensations. He reaches out for his father and his power allows him to become one with his father's mind. Memories of the two of them together flash through their minds and Guillame drops the axe. The Haitian receives his father's necklace just before Guillame jumps off the cliff. The Haitian, now alone, remembers his father's final command--to bury the zombie-like villagers. As the Haitian is about to bury a villager, he meets Thompson for the first time, who offers help, and they walk away.

Memorable Quotes

"He sent me here to make you forget. Like he sent me to your friend, and your brother, and your mother so many times. He'll be here soon, expecting that you won't remember anything, but it is very important that you do. Tell me Claire, can you keep a secret?"

- The Haitian (to Claire) (Fallout)

"What you can do, what I can do — that is God. Respect it accordingly."

- The Haitian (to Claire) (Godsend)

Notes

 • The Haitian rarely speaks. In fact, Thompson was initially under the erroneous impression that he couldn't speak, as were Mr. Bennet and Eden McCain and presumably other agents of the Company until the events of Company Man. He finally broke his silence by speaking to Claire Bennet (Fallout). The Haitian also speaks French, as is customary in Haiti (Parasite).
 • It seems that in speaking to Claire, the Haitian has differing loyalties than that of his now former partner, Mr. Bennet.
 • The Haitian has been called "The Man at the Bar", "Mysterious Man", "Mystery Man", "Mysterious Black Guy", "MBG", "Mr. Mute", "Memory Wiper", "Mr. Bennet's Assistant", "Mr. Bennet's Cleaner", "Spooky Euro-Dude", and "SED".
 • He is also jokingly referred to as "The Haitian Sensation That's Sweeping the Nation" by Jack Coleman (Mr. Bennet) during cast commentaries. This may be a reference to the sarcastic commentary website Television Without Pity, which routinely refers to him as "the Haitian Sensation". This is referred to in Company Man where Thompson tells Mr. Bennet that he has "a new sensation" for him.
 • In the commentary for Parasite, it was revealed that before the casting of Jimmy Jean-Louis, the Haitian was originally intended to be a Maori warrior from New Zealand.
 • Some fans--and even a photo caption on NBC.com--initially confused the Haitian with D.L. Hawkins because of their similar appearances.
 • While the Haitian's name is still unknown, six different times his father Guillame addresses him as "Boy". (It Takes a Village Parts 1, 2, 3, and 4)
