=== Questions about recent changes on FBI agents and Gun sellers === |
|||
Hi Ryan, |
|||
I was watching again the season 1 and reading the related GNs, at the same time checking appearances. I came to see that some characters were missing, so I tried to create their articles. A few questions to you, if I'm not bothering :) |
|||
* Nope, no bother! And I'm glad that you're making new articles. :) |
|||
*What's wrong the images? ([[:Image:FBI agent (I).jpg]], [[:Image:FBI agent (III).JPG]], [[:Image:FBI agent (IV).JPG]], [[:Image:Gun seller (II).JPG]]) I tried to upload them according to the rules and also added all the categories. |
|||
** They are not [[help:standard size|standard size]]. Character portraits should be 200 x 250. |
|||
*What's a duplicate image? You nominated [[:Image:Gun seller (II).JPG]] for deletion because of duplication. But I didn't duplicate it from somewhere, I just took a snapshot from the pdf file of the GN. May be you meant something else, maybe I did some other error. So please can you explain me so that I can learn how to upload better images and create better articles. :) I'm genuine when I say this I'm always willing to learn and improve =) (By the way I also redirected the wrongly redirected links to the [[FBI agent]].) |
|||
** I nominated the gun seller's image for deletion because the image already exists on the wiki. It's not good practice to have multiple images floating around the wiki. I would have taken care of it earlier, but I didn't have time so I just made a note for myself to fix it when I have a little more time. Not a big deal. |
|||
*When and how can I know when the article came to achieve to the Heroes Wiki article standards? |
|||
** I'll fix them up--the "needs maintenance" flags were more of a note for myself to fix the pages up when I get a second. Specifically, some of the articles were missing things like the fact that they're dead, or they had some links missing, or had bolded words in the wrong spots. It's also not good practice to put the parenthetical numbers in the body of articles. So for instance, when we put quotations, we should pipe the name (<code><nowiki>[[FBI agent (I)|FBI agent]]</nowiki></code>) so it looks better ([[FBI agent (I)|FBI agent]]). |
|||
*By the way, I also don't like all those numbers around people (I), (II) etc. And you might have been angry with me when you saw me adding all those numbers from which you'd gotten rid of, a while ago. But, when I saw that there were many unnamed FBI agents or other, I did what I thought was necessary to be done. So this was to make sure that you knew I didn't do any of these out of pleasure but to approach perfection, I mean to improve the wiki. |
|||
** Nope, not angry with you at all! You're doing a great job! :) -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 15:14, 12 September 2009 (EDT) |

*Therefore, I will be highly grateful if you help me in helping the wiki e.g. if you tell me if there's anything wrong in my style or in what I do. |
|||
Thank you very much in advance, |
|||
Awaiting impatiently for your reply, |

Welcome to Heroes Wiki!
Here are a few links to get you started:
- If you are new to Heroes, you might want to start at the New User Portal.
- If you're not too familiar with editing wikis, you might like to start with Help:Editing.
- If you already are familiar with wikiediting, you might want to try Help:Style.
- If you're ready to get started, Template:Todo lists some ways you can help out.
- Of course, if you have your own idea for a new article, that's great, too.
- Recent Changes will let you see others' contributions as they happen.
- To make Recent Changes more useful for all users, remember to provide an edit summary in the Summary field before you save your changes.
- You can set the wiki to prompt you for a summary in your preferences.
- When posting on an article's Talk page you should add --~~~~ or click the signature button.
- This will add a signature and timestamp to the end of your comment so others can easily tell who posted it.
- Any new sections on an article's Talk page should be added to the bottom of the page and not to the top.
- When editing normal article pages, don't sign your contributions.
- If you have any questions or need any help, please feel free to leave a message for an administrator.
- You can also customize your user page if you like.
Once again, welcome to Heroes Wiki!
Edits to your userpage
Hey there. I notice you've been making an awful lot of edits to User:Janrodrigo/Volume 1 Characters. In the future, it would be much appreciated if you could refrain from doing this by using the "Show Preview" button to proofread your edits before you save them. This way, it reduces the amount of work that Patrollers have to do. Thanks. -Sincerely, Thrashmeister » talk- 11:24, 14 February 2009 (EST)
- I feel its necessary to repeat this comment, your edits are dominating Recent Changes, thanks.-- By Danko CH 14:05, 10 September 2009 (EDT)
- You've been doing a great job. All of the edits you've made are great, which is quite impressive considering English isn't your native language, is it? You've been doing a better job at editing than some native English speakers here on the Wiki! It's also really nice that you're taking the initiative to improve upon yourself and upon the Wiki. That's a good life attitude. Keep up the good work! -Sincerely, Thrashmeister » talk- 11:14, 15 February 2009 (EST)

On your Publishing Chronology....
Keep working on it if you like, but I've already gone through the trouble of doing that. ;) --SacValleyDweller (talk) 20:01, 15 February 2009 (EST)
- Ok, I see you copied mine and added some things to it. Up till January 26, 2009, a user by the name of Heroes360 has kept records of Evolutions site updates and the like on his page. Some feedback:
- The colored media note about the canon/non-canon GNs is fact mixed with my own personal opinion. I do not know if you agree with the opinion part it or if anyone else here does. If you do agree with my opinion, you can leave it in there. if you do not you should consider removing or rewording in accordance with your own opinion with regard to the media.
- The extra notation is hard to understand, and it might be helpful to explain how to read it or what it means somewhere on the page (Im assuming release dates?).
- I am a little uncomfortable with it mirroring my own page so closely. If all you are going to do is copy my page as your page and put Heroes website updates and release/air dates in it, we might as well work together on incorporating that data into my page (I had been considering placing release/air date information in my page anyway, but I never added it because I've never needed that piece of information). That way we'll have one page with all the information rather than two almost identical pages with only minor differences between the two. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:43, 16 February 2009 (EST)
- Ok, since you have made progress on your modifications to my content, I'll take the content of your page and paste it over the content of mine. There, you can continue to add release date information and the Evolutions messages (you will be making changes to my page then, but I'm OK with that). I'll work on clarifying it, making sure it is grammatically correct, and formatting it such that it is easy to understand.
- I see now that some of your notation indicates the in-universe dates for the events that transpired in the media. While a good idea in it's own right, it does not fit with the purpose of my page, which is to outline when everything related to Heroes happened form the perspective of the real world. Because of that, that notation would not make it to my page. Another user by the name of Ricard Desi has a similar idea of breaking down when the events depicted in Heroes media happened in the Heroes universe, and might welcome your input, as he has stalled in his project.
- So, shall we proceed? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:34, 16 February 2009 (EST)
- After further consideration, your "Heroes World" dates (which are more properly referred to as in-universe dates) would be ok. I do have some information on the in-universe content of some media on the page already, so adding more in-universe information, formatted the same way, would be OK for consistency sake. I'll go ahead and paste your work on top of mine and clear your page now. After that, you can keep adding what you want, and I'll streamline it tomorrow. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:14, 16 February 2009 (EST)
- It's done, continue work here! :) --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:35, 16 February 2009 (EST)
- On our collaboration, I reworked the intro to be more concise and I reformatted a few of your entries for the first few weeks to the way I think it reads the best. I also think, now that I look at it, numbering more than Webisodes, iStories, GN's and Episodes will make the page harder to read and understand. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 03:05, 23 February 2009 (EST)
- So far so good. Keep going! :) However,a few stipulations:
One: (this is minor), in universe dates should be writen in the format "Month Day, Year," as that is the date format most familiar to Americans
Two: I think there is an excess of numbered things on the page now. Listing things like "HE S 2.02.13 PrimatechPaper.com The Rabbit Hole Opens" with the triple numbers is too much. Here's my line of thinking: The only things that need numbers are the bigger things that actually are numbered here at the wiki and are treated in special ways by our (the whole of HeroesWiki) documentation. These are the episodes, webisodes, GN's, and iStories (episodes, GNs, and webisodes have namespaces and related portals, iStory has the linked page and this portal) The rest, like in-character messages (Hana's messages for example) and changes to websites, despite most of those being numbered here too, are far too small and numerous to warrant numbering of that format on the page. The triple numbers make it harder to read for those who just stumble on the page and want to quicky skim its contents (such people were the page's intended readers). The numbering was only to equate the title of the work (ep, GN, etc.) with the number that HeroesWiki used to catalog it. The only thing I saw that needed the triple numbering (of the format 3.03.12) was the webisodes. The reason being was to give them a similar treatment to the episodes in that the first two functioned like an episode number (episode 3.03 = third season, third episode in the season; Web 3.03 = third arc of webisodes, third webisode in the arc). The last number I placed in the scheme because the Wiki didn't document the webisodes like that, only deciding to going with the simplistic straight numbering; number 1, number 2, number 3, etc. (the reasoning behind that policy was and is unimportant to me). Since you, I assume, are planning to put every single evolutions video (like the one that Drucker sent Hana) I think that the numbering of the videos should go as well. If you think that what I think does not need a number actually needs a number, a more simplistic numbering scheme may be better suited to the goal of ease of comprehension. --SacValleyDweller (talk)

It Takes a Village
I don't mind having articles about those characters, but group appearances (like the Tonton Macoutes) don't belong on appearance templates.
Thanks for the heads up about SVD's page. It's pretty awesome, isn't it? I had a similarly themed page a long time ago that I would use just to know when media was released. Sac has really taken his to a different level, so I made mine into a redirect to his. I believe Frank at HeroesARG references Sac's page quite regularly. Pretty cool! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:27, 28 February 2009 (EST)
- Anyway, I have question. I thought you might help me. I don't much about these naming conventions but I would like to know if it would be proper to name: The Haitian's friend (I), The Haitian's friend (II), Leader of the Tonton Macoutes' local branch or something; under the appearances? What would be proper as I strongly opine that every character whether minor or major should be mentioned. --Janrodrigo 16:24, 28 February 2009 (EST)
- Those names sound fine, though I would make the title of the Tonton Macoutes guy a bit simpler. "Tonton Macoutes leader" sounds fine to me. I know he's probably not the leader of the entire TM, but he's still a leader within the TM, so it's fine. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:56, 28 February 2009 (EST)
On the Progress
Nice work! on the HEV's, we dont need to link directly to the vid if we already have a summary on the wiki. also, I dont think we need to bold the numbers on them any more. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 13:48, 4 March 2009 (EST)
- We do have summaries on the HEV's Sword Saint and on the GNI Drucker documentary. The rest of the HEV's we do not have summaries of, and youy are right in that we should have a direct link. Over the weekend, I'll check to see if the direct links to the videos work. I haven't yet because I have quite a bit of homework for my two math classes (College-level Algebra and Trigonometry) during the week. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:19, 6 March 2009 (EST)
- OK, videos and Bennet audios checked. All video links working except Video Conference ones. Bennet audios 7-10 mot working. Also, we dont need to link to the sword saint vidoes, we have each chapter and part summarized at Sword Saint. Good work so far! --SacValleyDweller (talk) 20:00, 8 March 2009 (EDT)
- Ok, for consistency, the direct links to Sword Saint and Drucker documentary will be fine. I am toying with the idea of summarizing the other vids that we still have access to over summer break, but it would be a quite a bit of work. With regard to those particular GNs (the ones with the colored numbers), I came to somewhat the same conclusion in not so many words. They could more easily be contradicted (and some were, in a sense). they shopuld have been consulted, but I think the hands of both groups were tied; the writers (probably due to union rules) couldn't go to the scabs to consult, and NBC probably barred the scabs from consulting the regular writers. The canoncy of those GNs were more suspect than the other media. With regards to the Chuck Kim ones (and others), I'm pretty sure that there was some consulting there, and any ones that I heard/read about there being consultation (meaning written before the strike happened), the GN is is black. As I see it, there is more than one way to look at what's canon. HeroesWiki Policy (established by consensus and subject to question/change at any time) looks at the issue one way. Then there is the way that says "Whatever you think is canon, is canon." As wiki editors in our edits to the mainspace articles, we go by policy. Elsewhere, we have our own canon standards, which may or may not be in line with that of policy. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 02:15, 10 March 2009 (EDT)
- OK, videos and Bennet audios checked. All video links working except Video Conference ones. Bennet audios 7-10 mot working. Date of the e-mail
The mail came to me the 14th but as I live in Turkey, 14th here can be 13th over there in the States. And you're right I checked the hour, the message came by 03.50 a.m, which would be 08.50 p.m. the previous day in the east coast I guess. --Janrodrigo 03:40, 14 March 2009 (EDT)
- Yeah, we normally go by East Coast USA time. Thanks for verifying that on your end too.--MiamiVolts (talk) 03:53, 14 March 2009 (EDT)
Uncredited image
Hey, Janrodrigo. An image you uploaded to Heroes Wiki (Image:MeditateRR.jpg) is not credited. This goes against our license. You will need to either put the source for this image, or let me know that it can be deleted. If the image remains uncredited it will eventually be deleted. If you have any questions about what to do, please let me know on my talk page. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:41, 19 March 2009 (EDT)
Re:LA Bar customer
Don't worry about the English, you're doing a great job, I can fully understand you. I'm not sure there is a rule about this. Generally, for episodes, if a character is credited, then it definitely gets a page. If not, whether or not the character speaks is generally the guideline. I haven't watched One Giant Leap in a long time, and I believe you about the bar customer, so feel free to add the article. I think that with uncredited characters like this one, pages for them were simply unnecessary - that's why it seems to be "forgotten to be put into the wiki". Pages for characters like these (other examples are masked fugitive or DC cop) can be created if someone so desires. So feel free to create the page. =] --Radicell 08:31, 30 March 2009 (EDT)
- Hey, Janrodrigo. I hate to do this, but I'm doubling back on what I previously said about creating new pages about characters. I've noticed that you've gone ahead and created Los Angeles Bar Customer, as well as added Emily to Template:AppearancesOneGiantLeap. My opinion now is that we probably don't need an article about either of those characters, as I told you last month. However, I can live with them having articles, but the main thing that bothers me about them, is that both are uncredited. This clogs up Category:Unknown Portrayer with a bunch of small, insignificant characters. Usually, the only uncredited characters that we make pages for, are those of significant meaning (ex. Karen Sprague, Rosetti, and formerly Leona). I won't make any reverts to the templates you edited, or the page you created, since I want to know what some of the higher-ups think about this. Again, sorry for doubling back on what I've previously said. --Radicell 10:01, 22 April 2009 (EDT)
Information Update
Thought I would like to share this with you for your Information Update subpage. A network draft of the pilot was turned in (or written, it's a date on the PDF file) on December 2, 2005. Great and interesting stuff you've got there.--Citizen 17:34, 25 April 2009 (EDT)
- I'll send it to you later today via email. I do like that page you guys have been working on, it might come in handy for anyone looking to start checking out the expanded universe material. And for page deletions, you can ask any of the admins (Admin, RyanGibsonStewart or MiamiVolts).--Citizen 09:33, 26 April 2009 (EDT)
