*** You know, my son just discovered ''School House Rock'' and he's always running around the house singing "I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill, and I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill!" It's been fun rediscovering my childhood. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 23:53, 24 April 2008 (EDT) |

How comes when i upload a pic it apears on your page? O.O --(. .') 08:41, 3 March 2008 (EST)
- Because I include the first twelve images from Special:Newimages on my userpage. I like to check up on new pictures to make sure they are properly categorized, have links, fair use statements, are standard size, and that they are not duplicates. Having them show up on my page is just a quick way to check. The code I use to have them show up is
{{Special:Newimages/12}}. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 11:21, 3 March 2008 (EST) - Oh ok, As long as your not stealing my pictures xD --(. .') 11:25, 3 March 2008 (EST)
- Well, by uploading them at the site, "you grant Heroes Wiki a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify and create derivative works from, and distribute and publish the media and any derivative works thereof" (as per the copyright notice at the bottom of every edit screen). But no, I'm not stealing anything. When 12 more images are uploaded, they will disappear from my page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 11:28, 3 March 2008 (EST)
- I was joking Lmao, ¬_¬ --(. .') 11:29, 3 March 2008 (EST)
John Priestly spelling?
Why did you redo the image and spelling of the name? (I'm sure I've missed an important discussion somewhere explaining this).
On page 1 of the GN, it spells his name John Priestly, not John Priestley. So where did I goof, using the GN spelling? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 03/4/2008 15:58 (EST)
- John Priestly is the intro spelling, and is not from the writer. The writer used the correct name in-story, saying at the beginning that the story comes from the journal of Joseph Priestley.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:07, 4 March 2008 (EST)
- Funny, I guess we were both somewhat correct. The article will be "Joseph Priestley" since that's the name used in the actual comic, as Miami correctly pointed out. Leave it to me to notice an e in "Priestley", but not that the entire first name had changed! -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 18:48, 4 March 2008 (EST)
Jesse sent you a pic.....
...you gonna see if you can get an interview with the guy?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:53, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
- Four pics, but no, not quite yet. I'd rather wait until I have a few more exchanges with him. Plus, I'm super busy with school, work, and life right now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:56, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
- Rereading, I'm sorry if I sound curt, I had a long two days of driving. A better answer to your question is that I haven't developed the relationship with Jesse that I'd like to have yet. The pictures were not sent directly to me, but were shared in an album that others saw, too. He's near the top of my wishlist for interviews, and I'll work a little more at approaching him after my life settles down a bit. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 13:41, 10 March 2008 (EDT)
Life slowed down yet?
Reading the above, it sounds like it's been going about a mile a second. Has it slowed down yet?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:24, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
- No, but thanks for asking. My graduate courses end on Friday which should help. I'm also deeply entrenched in hiring a camp staff of about fifty people. Yikes! Heroes Wiki is where I come for relaxation. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 06:49, 13 March 2008 (EDT)
User Box
I'd like to change the color of my user box to purple, but I'm having trouble doing it. Is there a way to do it without reconstructing all the coding, or could you help me with the coding? I have a sample here. Thanks! Also, how do you decide what goes in trivia vs. the About Me sections on the character pages? --SpellingBee~Talk to me!~~Contribs~ 01:26, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
- Okay, I added some color customization. To change the colors, add this to the template:
| background color = <!-- color name or HEX number --> | background border = <!-- color name or HEX number --> | blurb color = <!-- color name or HEX number --> | blurb border = <!-- color name or HEX number --> | about color = <!-- color name or HEX number --> | about border = <!-- color name or HEX number -->
Let me know if you need more help... -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 01:45, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
- Thanks so much! It looks a lot better now. --SpellingBee~Talk to me!~~Contribs~ 18:42, 17 March 2008 (EDT)
Precision spoiler-sort of: pipeline?
In any given week, how many known GNs are in the "pipeline" (IE. it's week 79 and there are X GNs in the pipeline.)? How does one find out what's in it or who has stuff in it? What kind of information is held in each spoiler about GNs in the pipeline? What spoilers were given about past GNs and how far in advance did the spoiler section have them?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 19:21, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Wow, good questions. I wish I had good answers. :) When an artist or writer or someone else "in the know" tells me something, I put it on the wiki, provided I have permission. From what I can gather, a writer has about a week to write an issue. Then an artist has about a week to a week and a half to illustrate it. It then goes to the coloring and lettering stages, which is only a few days. So my informal assessment shows that each graphic novel takes about two or three weeks to complete from start to finish. So it would make sense that there are about three issues in the pipeline at any given time. Does that answer your questions? -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 19:47, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Some of them. I'm still curios as to what kinds of GN spoiler info has been given to you or others in the know. Might you be able to post an old GN spoiler here or on my talk page so that I can get an idea of what is given?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 22:56, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Everything I know (which I have permission to say) has been posted on Spoiler:Upcoming episodes. When it's no longer a spoiler, it's deleted, so you may have to check the history. But the spoilers I get are just emails from artists and writers with whom I've developed a relationship over time. For instance, Jason Badower and I are pretty good friends, even outside the Heroes circle. He's asked me trivia-type questions quite a few times for novels he's worked on, though he usually doesn't like me to announce anything, and so I respect that. R.D. Hall asked me about some timeline stuff from the 70s, and I helped him out with those questions. I can't say everything he asked, but I can tell you that he's writing the first and last parts of the three-arc series about Linda Tavara. There are a lot of other really cool details I promised him I wouldn't divulge, so that's about all I can say. R.D. didn't know that Robert Atkins was illustrating and issue of his novel, I'm the one who told him. Robert asked me some stuff about what certain people looked like in the 70s (I can't say who), and I figured out that he was drawing one of R.D.'s scripts. When I asked Robert, he confirmed this....So there's some basic stuff about how I get spoilers. Sorry I can't say much more than that, but when I give my word, I keep it, as I'm sure you can understand. :) Any other questions? -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:15, 19 March 2008 (EDT)
- Nope! Good enough! (a bit too much actually, but das arright! :-) ) --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:45, 19 March 2008 (EDT)

Coincidence?
- While my name is Brian, I work with computers, and I'm currently in Las Vegas, I can say for certain that I'm not on the lam. :) (Admin 11:08, 20 March 2008 (EDT))

- Actually, no, I haven't gotten any. But I would have found it funny. :) (Admin 12:30, 20 March 2008 (EDT))

'Brian' Page changed.
- Hello Ryan,
I was just wondering, I got an email notification that you removed my addition on the 'Brian' page.
I wasn't aware that there were rules about content like that, which I assume is the reason it was removed.
If that was the reason, then I am sorry, I did not know.
Or, if there was another reason, could you inform me, so I know not to do the same again.
Thanks,
Chris.
- The additions you made were great. However, they're really about the Brian's website and not really just about Brian. All the information you added (and more) is already on brianundaunted, and Brian's article has several links to brianundaunted. It's not really a question of whether or not the content was acceptable or not--it's great content. It's more a matter of what page it belongs on, that's all. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:32, 21 March 2008 (EDT)
- Ok, thanks Ryan. I had no idea about that page, sorry xD. But now I've looked at it, I notice their description of how to solve the problem is far better. Thanks again :)
Re: We're all just fans...
Can we still say that when we have graphic novel crew members and associate producers as users?--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:05, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
- Do they read the comments users make? Better yet, do the comments that people make on their user pages make a difference in the content we see? 18 out of 4,303 users is less than half a percent, and I would say that total eyeball time of those 18 users is even less. Besides, when addressing a new user who addresses the creators of the show appealing for new story ideas, it's best (and easiest) to clarify that we are generally not the creators of the show, and this wiki is distinguished from, say, the one at NBC, which might confuse said new user. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 18:46, 25 March 2008 (EDT)
EVSDROPR and the 4th wall
As can be surmised form the Identity Riddles thread at 9th and the person known as EVSDROPR, there is some uneasiness amongst some folks (myself included) about the status of that 4th wall. Might you be able to get on the horn with Tolerco and get a line as to what's up with the whole thing? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:46, 28 March 2008 (EDT)
- Been there. Understandably, he doesn't want to say too much about anything until after it's all revealed. Part of the whole mystery/puzzle/anonymity thing, ya know. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:48, 28 March 2008 (EDT)
- OK, in hind sight, it figures. So Which boat are you in with regards to this, Uneasy or Bring it on?--SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:02, 29 March 2008 (EDT)
- I have no problem with it. Ya gotta just go with it and remember that these characters are not real people, but are created by a group of writers. As such, there are some imperfections along the way. No problem with me. Bring it, and we'll roll with it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 00:17, 29 March 2008 (EDT)

Friends
I was just going through your friends on Facebook then. Oh my God. I was going "what? WHAT?" every time I just saw somebody from Heroes on it. Which happened a lot. An awful lot. --DocM 08:51, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah, I've got quite a few friends from the Heroes creative staff on there. It's one way I keep abreast of what's going on in the writers' room. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 09:19, 10 April 2008 (EDT)
Hall interview
Any news on that? Therequiembellishere 20:07, 10 April 2008 (EDT)

- Oh, round about 15 or 20%. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 00:19, 13 April 2008 (EDT)
- It's hard to say, though. I was on the line for about a half hour before R.D. called (he had to put kids to bed), so there's an extra half hour on the recording. Then, there's a lot of empty space because R.D. would stop to look up notes and references. I'm also going to be cutting a lot of blabber out (where we shoot the breeze, talk about our kids, jobs, etc.). So it's kind of hard to estimate how much is done and how much remains. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 01:04, 13 April 2008 (EDT)

- My laptop (where I had been trascribing everything) died on me last night. There's a chance I might be able to salvage the work I've done, but there's also a very good chance it's completely lost (along with a bunch of family pictures. Ugh!). In any case, I've been working on it a bit each day, which is about the best I can do. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:48, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
- Yikes, my pc crashed on me last week and is in the shop now. I know the feeling. Hopefully, they'll be saving my data.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:13, 15 April 2008 (EDT)
- I'm sorry to hear that, Ryan. Family pictures? Yikes indeed.--Citizen 08:07, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
- One of my hard drives the shop couldn't recover (so I took it home); the second drive they took the data off and now they are going to see if reformatting will work...I should hopefully get the machine back with it restored tommorrow, then I'll be off to a data recovery shop for the drive I took home (hrm). I hope Ryan has a better shop experience than me.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:05, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
- I've got a buddy taking a look at it, but it looks like I'm going to need a new hard drive, which I just can't afford right now. And the process for extracting the data that's already on there is probably too expensive, too. The family pictures shouldn't be too big a deal--I think I've sent emails of the good ones, so it's just a matter of tracking them back down. I've lost a bunch of notes from my first weekend at camp school, but oh well. I can re-download my interview with RD, but I think I can kiss the bit of transcription that I've done goodbye. :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 15:59, 16 April 2008 (EDT)
- I got my pc back today from the 1st shop. They reformatted the one hard drive they could read and re-installed the OS and presto, it works... well, sort of... they couldn't get my secondary IDE port to work and told me that part of the motherboard is shot. My trying to activate that port is probably what killed my system in the first place. The stinker is that my estimate more than doubled cause an OS reinstall with data save normally cost over $100 and a driver fix less than $50. I guess that's why it's called an estimate. Hrm. Anyways, Ryan, if you save your HD you can probably get the photos and other data off it later by taking it to a data recovery specialist. It is pricey, but the data should stay on your hard drive so there's no rush as long as you can store the drive somewhere indoors.-MiamiVolts (talk) 18:16, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
- It's not common for most people, but that's why I run periodic backups of my home workstation. I have an 800GB network attached storage device that I usually back up to. It's not too common for home users right now, but within a few years I think it will be more popular. With 1 TB drives getting cheaper by the week and RAID controllers becoming more common it's only a matter of time until such things becomes popular with the mainstream home user. Interviews
- Hey there man! I'm trying to start a similar interview thing going at Lostpedia, and was just wondering how you managed to get in contact with so many people? Thanks,-- Lost Soul talk contribs 03:16, 14 April 2008 (EDT)
- Lots of research! There's no one simple answer. You'll notice that a lot of my interviews are with graphic novel writers and artists--most of them list their contact information on their websites. From there, it's all about networking--people pass my email address on to others, and I'm always keeping my eye out for new contacts. It's an active process, but a lot of it just falls in my lap. It's rare that I will set out to contact an individual and then end up interviewing them. Usually, I just do a lot (a LOT!) of searching and something pops up or I get lucky. That's about the best explanation of my "process" I can give you... -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 07:16, 14 April 2008 (EDT)

Spoilers in the Theory space...
They don't belong, right? If they dont, could you look into adding a warning on the theory editing guidelines? see here for what I saw, dint want to see, and hope ain't true.--SacValleyDweller (talk) 22:19, 17 April 2008 (EDT)
- You're right, spoilers don't belong on theory pages. Sometimes people will sneak spoilers in without sources, which I think is just not very nice, but it's technically allowed. For instance, somebody might add the theory "Hiro will die at the hands of Adam" with a note that says something like "Adam owned the Kensei sword for many years" (Hiro is actually the one in possession of it, for those keeping track). However, the theory page should in no way list, point to, link to, or reference any spoiler articles, videos, interviews, or rumors. The evidence column would be left blank. The theory, though, is really best suited for Spoiler:Season Three#Fan Theories. I hope that answers your first question.
As for your second concern, there is nothing in the video (bravo for the fortitude to not watch!) that shows Hiro stabbed or anybody stabbed, for that matter. Hiro and the sword are shown a bit together, and it's my opinion that there is no implication that he's being stabbed. It's a lot of speculation on a very unclear video. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 16:18, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

- You know, my son just discovered School House Rock and he's always running around the house singing "I'm just a bill, yes I'm only a bill, and I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill!" It's been fun rediscovering my childhood. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 23:53, 24 April 2008 (EDT)
