  • Some of these seem to be organized by the person who possesses the photos and some do not. (For one thing, I'm not sure why the photos of D.L.'s crew, etc., from Snapshots are listed under Niki). We should probably decide to either organize them by possessor or by subject, and stick to whichever we choose. Also, it's not entirely clear if some of the ones from GNs are photos and not paintings, drawings, etc. (particularly some of the stuff from the string web).--Hardvice (talk) 08:11, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
    • I'd prefer to organize them by subject since the possessor is not always clear, but I'm certainly open to either way (or another way if somebody suggests a good one). In any case, it should be standardized and references should be added. I'm going to mark it as not meeting our wiki's standards. I don't have time to fix it now, so the flag will be a reminder for later. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:16, 21 October 2007 (EDT)
  • We could use a template like this:
Charlie birthday 2.jpg

In this photo: Hiro Nakamura, Charlie Andrews
Taken on: April 24, 2006
Taken at: Burnt Toast Diner
Taken by: Lynette
Owned by: Burnt Toast Diner
Location: Midland, TX

and put each blurb under the person who own the photo. If it was sorted by the subject of the photo, the same photo might appear for more than 1 time. Chrisyudbsname.JPGChrisyudbstalk.JPG 08:51, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

    • While that looks kind of cool, we don't have much information on a lot of the photos, and the page would be astonishingly long if we did that for every photo. I think the real question isn't about the format (galleries are fine), but about making sure the photos are consistently organized the same way (by possessor or subject). You bring up a good point about some photos having multiple subjects. I think we could just include them under one subject and be OK.--Hardvice (talk) 12:40, 26 October 2007 (EDT)
      • I think that if there were sub headings it might help. For example, Under characters the sub headings Evolved humans and normal humans, then list each person alphabetically. Also instead of making two other sections, make building 26, Pinehearst and Primatech files under the heading government/company files (can't think of something that will include all three). Then have a heroes evolution heading to include Devin's PDA and assignment tracker and map. Then have an other section for animals. Also maybe having a family section so everything is clearly separated. I would gladly do this but thought I would say something first as some people may not like this idea. I could create an example in my user space is this would help. The only problem I see is when a photograph doubles up into two sections, Micah for example as his photo is in Nathan's files which is under Building 26 but also under Micah. The photo could be included in both but how would you decided if you were to only choose one? --posted by Laughingdevilboy

        • I have created an example here it will take some time to reorganise but I am willing to try, also I have thought if a photo appears in a file it will be listed in both, but if this makes the page too long then the photo will only be listed under the file. Also, the pictures of the target evolved humans would be added under Nathan's files but the name might be changed or another sub section may be created for the target's pictures. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

          • This is one of those projects that I've slowly been working on over the past few weeks (or months?)--I do a little bit every few days. Basically, the way I'm organizing it is by the subject of the photo. If a picture has more than one person in it, it goes under both people's sections. I don't like the idea of separating the page into humans and evolved humans because that seems like an unnecessary amount of updating that needs to happen if a person is ever revealed to have a power, and because being in a photo or not really has nothing to do with whether or not that person has an ability. I like the idea of families, though, and it's on its way towards that direction now, with the Suresh family being listed together. I'm up to "Parkman" for standardizing the page, so I have a little work left to do... Thanks for the suggestions, LDB--they're very thoughtful! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:33, 21 February 2009 (EST)
            • No problem, just trying to help :) If you need help re-organising send me a message, I think you are right about the characters but I do think thought they should be in aphabetical order, I would do that if you want :) Would you like me to update the TOC aswell as I noticed some headings are missing. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

              • Sure, go for it! ... Aren't the characters already in alphabetical order by last name? (Well, at least the first section of the page, up to Parkman, and maybe a little beyond?) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:56, 21 February 2009 (EST)
                • My mistake don't know why but I was looking at the first name :) --posted by Laughingdevilboy

                  • As I was adding captions to some pictures I thought we could add an Items section, what do you think? --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 12:23, 22 February 2009 (EST)

                    • You mean photographs of items? Like pictures of the guns and paintings? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:45, 22 February 2009 (EST)
                      • Yes, but I think keeping paintings separate, it could be under one heading, it would include the gun Taylor used and Kensei's sword, possibly even newspaper's photos, just to clear up the miscellaneous. I was also thinking what about having all the string theory extra photos put together as there seem to be a few also the same for the extra map pictures, just ideas. If you like any of the ideas I would implement them as I know you are pretty busy, I am trying not to stand on your toes as I know this is an ongoing thing, just thought I could help speed it up :) --posted by Laughingdevilboy

I went through and loosely organized pictures by the subject. Some appear twice (like a picture of both Nathan and Peter). Some I dropped altogether (like what was claimed to be a photo of a painting, but it was not). Some I just threw down in the miscellaneous. I combined some characters--like all photos of the Company's founders. Work that still needs to be done is:

  1. More organization
  2. Fix descriptions
  3. Add cites
  4. Get newer photographs (like from Pinehearst's files, the picture of Maya on Mohinder's computer screen, etc.

There's lots of work to be done yet... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:55, 11 December 2008 (EST)

  • Yeah, also, according to Operation Splinter of iStory "Friend or Foe", there's a photo of Ricardo Silva with his wife and child in his former apartment in a picture frame, but there's no actual photo shown in the iStory. I'm not sure if we're interested in adding such photos.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:25, 13 December 2008 (EST)
  • I'm going to start cleaning the page a bit with what we have. Unfortunately, I think the best way to do it is by section, so there might be some excessive edits showing up in the recent changes. Sorry! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:36, 13 December 2008 (EST)

More Pics More Page

Hey how about including assignment tracker profile pics or is it just from the show? Gabriel Bishop 17:47, 13 December 2008 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • Not a bad idea. I didn't see your comment, but I guess we were thinking along the same lines--I just added all the ones that are photos. (I didn't add the artist renderings, though.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:08, 14 December 2008 (EST)

I created and added a template that puts the TOC horizontally at the top of the page, so there isn't a massive space between the top and the first section. I hope this was ok, but if not, the only things that need to be done to reverse it are:

  1. Remove the NOTOC code, which is at the very top of the page.
  2. Remove the {PhotographsTOC} code, which is directly above the initial description of the page
  3. Delete the Template:PhotographsTOC page

--Stevehim 03:08, 14 December 2008 (EST)

  • No, it looks terrific, and it fills in the space nicely. Bonus: it helps with organization. The page is nowhere near done, so I'm not going to worry about updating the TOC until all the sections are added (they will change), but it's a great idea. Thanks, Stevehim! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:09, 14 December 2008 (EST)

Something's wrong with the template, it shows lots of Template:NBL links, but when I go to the template page, everything looks fine. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 18:06, 18 September 2009 (EDT)

  • Yeah, I noticed that last night. I was hoping it was just a caching thing. I'm not sure why it's doing that. We should probably remove the template for now... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:34, 18 September 2009 (EDT)
    • Hmm, even with the code directly on the page, it's still not working. Very odd. Anybody have any ideas? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:40, 18 September 2009 (EDT)
      • Was there any change in the template's code recently? Or perhaps someone accidentaly messed with the coding while adding an entry? Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 18:57, 18 September 2009 (EDT)
        • Not that I could see. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:33, 19 September 2009 (EDT)
          • It's happening again. It looks like what's happening is that there are too many templates being used on the page (in this case, photographs/main characters to be specific). Not just templates directly on the page, but all the template:nbl, template:thingnavseealso, template:media, template:epp, and even template:ep. Lots. When that happens, or when the templates become too numerous, they stop working. The best thing to do is to take all the epp templates and to switch them to direct links. So when it says {{epp|101}}, we just need to change that to says (''[[Genesis]]''). It's a lot of work, but that's the only real way I see around the situation...unless anybody has any better ideas. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:23, 14 January 2010 (EST)
            • Looks like this has been fixed using Ryan's suggestion. It also looks to me like a template limits problem. The only solutions I can think of are to remove some templates or to make subportals by character/season to split up the page.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:36, 15 January 2010 (EST)
              • That, or create a duplicate template under a new name, so when one starts going crazy, we split the "weight" on each one, so to speak. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:40, 16 January 2010 (EST)
                • The problem isn't that there are too many templates of the same name. It's that there are just too many templates, period. Duplicate templates under a new name is a creative solution, but it wouldn't solve anything, unfortunately. The best fix at this point is just to make sure we're not using so many templates on the page. Template:epp is still being used more than 100 times on the main characters photo page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:45, 16 January 2010 (EST)
                  • Well, there is another possible solution, but that would involve wiki-wide changes, it would change way too many things if we did it, I don't believe it would be worth the effort. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 11:06, 16 January 2010 (EST)

The Photographs page and its subpages

I'm not really fond of the way these pages are currently organized - with the subpages all having the "Media" navbar, but in Portal:Media, only "Photographs" is listed. Furthermore, the Photographs page is really a portal, and should be at Portal:Photographs if it is to remain the way it is. --Radicell 04:05, 4 October 2009 (EDT)
