== Adding Wikipedia interwiki link on [[:fr:|French Heroes Wiki]] and creation of my account on the German wiki. == |

== excess redirects == |
|||
Hi Admin,<br/>Is it possible please to add the Interwiki shortcut link for the French Wikipedia (<code><nowiki>http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1</nowiki></code>) and create for me an account on the German Heroes Wiki (to update interwiki links mostly). Thank you very much. Best Regards --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 08:15, 9 April 2015 (EDT) |
|||
* I've updated the interwiki links on the French site and created a new account for you on the German site. I'll email your password. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 21:47, 16 April 2015 (EDT)) |
|||

== Adding images I uploaded == |
|||
Hi Admin, |
|||
I want to put the images I uploaded into pages like images from A Clear and Present Danger and images from Trust and Blood. I don't really know if it would improve the galleries, I just want to put them there considering no one else seems to upload these files. If you reply to this, thank you. --[[User:Virgil|Virgil]] ([[User talk:Virgil|talk]]) |
|||
== Another set of additions == |
|||
Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if I could put some of the images into pages like images of Tracy Strauss or images of Claire Bennet or other character pages like that and even putting them in character history pages to show them what happened to them in the corresponding episode. Could I also put images of other episodes in character history pages? I was just wondering. If you reply to this, thank you for reading it. --[[User:Virgil|Virgil]] ([[User talk:Virgil|talk]]) |

Hey, Ryangibsonstewart. Check out the discussion I started at Talk:Brain_removed regarding liberal use of redirects. :) I think we need to reach a good balance between piping and redirecting. :) (Admin 00:35, 3 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
*Yes, thank you ... Still learning the wiki-quette ... I'll cut down on my redirects. Thanks! :) - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 00:38, 3 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
** Hey, no problem. Etiquette here is constantly evolving, so we all learn at the same time. :) As we try new things we get feedback from the community and that consensus from the community forms our etiquette. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 00:41, 3 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
*I have a ton of redirects on my site, just because of 'case sensitivty' of article names. Do you guys have this same problem, Or have you found a work around on the case sensitive mediawiki issue? [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 15:03, 3 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
**We don't have too many redirects that are due to case sensitivity. The solution to this problem is generally to set a policy regarding article naming. Suggestion is to basically capitalize articles as they'd be naturally capitalized in the middle of a sentence. (e.g. "Let's go to Peter's apartment." The article would be named "Peter's apartment" not "Peter's Apartment") If you follow the policy then any miscapitalized links can just be corrected instead of setting up redirects. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 14:36, 8 December 2006 (EST)) |

Hey, Admin. I just noticed that on the [[list of evolved humans]] page, there are a few times it says "span id" where it shouldn't. I think those are for links from other pages so that clicking on the links will take you directly to the span id section. Any way you could fix that? It must have gotten missed in the last update... Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:04, 12 July 2015 (EDT) |

* I'll see if I can figure it out. Where's Miami for this kind of magic when ya need em?! :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 13:31, 12 July 2015 (EDT)) |
|||
** Hi, the main reason is that the <tt><nowiki>{{Evolved}}</nowiki></tt>'s field <tt>name</tt> for those rows have been filled by a wikilink. the "id" doesn't support wikilinks in its name. More, the template auto-add a wikiling for the character. Cheers --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 14:47, 12 July 2015 (EDT) |
|||
*** In all seriousness, do you need me to dig up Miami's email address? I might have it somewhere. Or you can leave a message on his page -- he might still have it set to send him a notification... Just a thought... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 22:51, 12 July 2015 (EDT) |

I would love to have an audio clip as an example of Eden using her powers, but the wiki isn't accepting media uploads. I don't know exactly what it entails, but is it possible to set up multimedia support for audio uploads. I think it could be used for other things, too, like the depiction of Matt's telepathic hearing. What do you think? - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 13:28, 4 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
:What audio format you using? I think it accepts .ogg files already. I'll see about adding other formats, but want to make sure there aren't any good reasons not to include support for .wav or .mp3 for instance. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:33, 4 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
::[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] is pulling together an audio file, and he [[Heroes_Wiki:Requested_Screen_Captures#Requested_Screen_Captures|said]] it was in .ogg -- if the site accepts, we're good to go. I'll check with him. Thanks! :) - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 13:46, 4 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
:::Ok, good. I'm thinking to be safe we may just want to standardize on .ogg anyway since it's free and unencumbered by patents. If files are in a different format you can download the free audio editor [http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Audacity] (which I use personally and find to be very good) to convert them to .ogg. Codecs exist for all major players. Some more info at Wikipedia's [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Media#Audio Audio] page. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:47, 4 December 2006 (EST)) |

There seems to be a glitch with [[Special:WantedPages]]. It's pulling everything from various templates. For instance, there are [[Special:WhatLinksHere/Unknown|140 links to the word "unknown"]], even though none of them are actually red links. It might actually be an issue with the #ifexist command, but I'm not sure. Could you take a look? Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 23:17, 21 July 2015 (EDT) |

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I'm having trouble with parserfunctions rendering html correctly in a table, on my site. A bunch of others over at [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ParserFunctions#Tables meta.wikimedia.org] are experiencing the same problem. The only solution seems to be, $wgUseTidy=true; in your LocalSettings.php. Is this what you did on your site, or have you found another solution? I and a bunch of others would greatly appreciate any insight into this. p.s. I can't believe I have to wait till Jan 22 for the next Heroe episode, jeeez. Thanks [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 11:26, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
:Yeah, I use <tt>$wgUseTidy=true;</tt> here. I think I may have added that back when I installed ParserFunctions in order to get it to work properly as well. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 11:30, 6 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
::I put that in my localsettings.php, and it works good, but then my left navigation column(monobook) is relocated ontop of my wikibody. Did you have that problem when you set tidy to true? [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 11:42, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
:::I don't believe I did. Do you have other extensions that may be conflicting? Are you using the Cite extension by any chance? I recall having bad luck trying to get that to play nice with ParserFunctions. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 11:45, 6 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
:: That I do, must be the problem. Do you do referencing on your site? [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 12:08, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
::: Not using a separate references section. So far we just do inline references. I wanted to be able to use the Cite extension as well, but when it didn't play nice I put it aside for a while since the ParserFunctions were more important to me. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 12:18, 6 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
:: I really appreciate your help. How did you come to learn MW so well? Also, if to personal, I understand(just ignore) but how does Wikiheroes support itself. [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 12:57, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
::: I wouldn't say I know MediaWiki so well, but I know it well enough through having setup a few wikis before. :) As for HeroesWiki supporting itself, it's being supported through the web hosting company I own: [http://www.colynx.com Colynx, LLC.] ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:01, 6 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
:: Ah, very cool. If I ever decide to switch from my host, I will come to you. I have to keep cite for now, the work around I've found is to make a template that calls up <tt>|</tt>. Then call that template inside the table. Ugly, but half way works. :o)Thanks again for all your help, and for making such a good wiki. [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 13:08, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
:::I just set it up and got the ball rolling... it's everyone else here that's helped out that makes it such a good wiki. :) But I'm sure everyone appreciates the compliment. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:11, 6 December 2006 (EST)) |

* I think you answered your own question. :) Sorry for any delays, but it's all part of my preparations to be able to scale up more easily once Heroes returns. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 01:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT)) |
|||
** Yeah, I kept trying to save that message because I didn't want to lose work on a template. No need to apologize -- and the delay was short. I'm excited for the upscale! I'm assuming you saw the messages above about some of the issues... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:11, 27 July 2015 (EDT) |
|||
*** I have seen most of them, but the code is much more difficult to change now compared to how it was years ago. As for the span issue, is that perhaps a template issue someone could repair? We use some rather elaborate templates here and admittedly I've never been able to decode many of them. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 01:20, 27 July 2015 (EDT)) |

**** Understandable. [[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] was a genius! ... Do you know what version of HTML the site is running? -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:42, 27 July 2015 (EDT) |
|||
***** Sites don't typically run a particular version of HTML, though they may incorporate features in different versions to varying degrees. Browsers however support specific versions of HTML (or features defined in that particular version). That being said I didn't check to see if there's any HTML5 in the current code (and it would be difficult for me to tell offhand), but I would hope if so MediaWiki is designed to be backwards compatible. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 01:50, 27 July 2015 (EDT)) |
|||
****** Okay, I think the issue on [[list of evolved humans]] page is solved. For some reason, it wasn't allowing the <code>sup</code> code to work near the <code>span id</code> code. Not sure why -- it always worked in the past. Oh well, I just took out the superscript footnote numbers and replaced them with asterisks and daggers. So problem fixed ... but I'd still like to know what caused the issue in the first place... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 02:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT) |

Do you have any advice, for building and promoting a wiki? [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 14:16, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||
* I have a few pieces of personal advice: |
|||
*# '''Use MediaWiki'''. :) As far as I know, it's the most flexible. As a wiki grows so will the demand for more complex features. Changing software in the middle will be difficult and disruptive. Based on your questions before, this doesn't sound like it's going to be an issue. :) |
|||
*# '''Respect the freedom wiki allows'''. Remember that the community is what makes a wiki what it is. Respect the wishes of the community even if you don't happen to agree. Try to persuade versus dictate. |
|||
*# '''Be original'''. If there are a lot of other wikis also pertaining to your topic then it'll be difficult. When I started Heroes Wiki it was basically the only Heroes wiki around (not including the content on Wikipedia). Wikipedia's an encyclopedia, however, and as a result has more stringent rules on what may and may not be included. The advantage of a fan site wiki is that you don't have to stick to the rules of an encyclopedia and can instead focus on what fans are interested in. |
|||
*# This one can be a bit tricky: '''Have the best content'''. People will come to your wiki if you have the most to offer them. The tricky part is that you may need to attract a lot of people in order to have the best content, but you need the content to attract the people. Chicken and the egg here. The plus side to it is that once you're attracting a lot of people it becomes more self-sustaining. You want to wow visitors which will encourage them to help spread the word about the site. The community here has done an amazing job creating some incredible pages. [[Isaac's paintings]] and [[Prophecy]] are two examples of great pages that many people like coming here for. |
|||
**Thanks for your comments, Admin - I think your ideas on building a strong community are especially useful and meaningful to those of us that contribute. I think you have some terrific guiding principles, and you seem to abide by them always. :) - [[User:Ryangibsonstewart|RyanGibsonStewart]] ([[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart|talk]]) 21:38, 6 December 2006 (EST) |
|||

Hey, Admin. I'm noticing that many of the [[Special:AllMessages|system messages]] aren't taking formatting the way they're supposed to. For instance, [[MediaWiki:Returnto]] has always used the <tt><nowiki><b></nowiki></tt> tag for bold and it's worked for years. But now when the message appears (like [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Template:AppearancesThe_Painted_Lady&action=edit§ion=T-1 here] for instance), it's not formatted correctly. Instead it shows the tags in the message. Any idea why, or how to fix it? Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 03:32, 28 July 2015 (EDT) |

There is a wiki site with a form structure for creating new pages. This seems like something that would be very handy in helping people new to wiki's get started on making a page. If you'd like to take a look at it, here's the link: [http://wikicompany.org/wiki/Special:WCPublish wikicompany]. If you guys figure out how to make it, please let us know. I would think maybe with the inputbox extension, but not sure. [[User:Rovo|Rovo]] 09:33, 7 December 2006 (EST) |

Hi! As you might already know, the writers have named the first Heroes Reborn episode the same as the last episode of Heroes (Brave New World), so we've now got about 400 pages to re-link to the Heroes episode instead of the [[Brave New World (disambig)|disambig page]] that we're later going to be using. I've offered to do this myself with a wiki bot, but I don't know if I would be allowed to since I'm a relatively new user and the only bot account on the wiki belongs to you. Basically all instances of "Episode:Brave New World" need to be replaced with "Episode:Brave New World (Heroes)". -[[User:Kon|Kon]] ([[User talk:Kon|talk]]) 22:22, 15 September 2015 (EDT) |
|||
* You're welcome to do it yourself using your account. We don't enforce any restrictions on bots as long as they're working right. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 00:42, 16 September 2015 (EDT)) |
|||
** Oh, great! Do you mind if I make another account to use the bot on? The reason I ask is so you can flag it as a bot, so that its 400 or so edits don't appear in the RecentChanges by default. That would be an eyesore for anyone monitoring the RC for proper user edits. -[[User:Kon|Kon]] ([[User talk:Kon|talk]]) 01:44, 17 September 2015 (EDT) |

Admin, thanks for the clarification on Peter sketching himself flying. Was this mimicking Isaac's precognition, though? : The fact that he sketched it was supposed to be a clue to his powers. He met Isaac then was able to make a crude drawing of what was going to happen. If I recall right after the scene where Peter is actually flying they end up showing his drawing again as well. Peter refers to that drawing subsequently as proof that he's able to take on the powers of others he's near. I'd definitely include it. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 01:04, 10 December 2006 (EST)) |

I started a discussion on [[Talk:Saving Charlie/summary]] about whether this chapter-by-chapter summaries page should be deleted as it seems to me to be summarizing in depth the for-pay book novel content (electronic, hardcover/hardbound, paperback), which to me seems may not be fair use. I am also asking whether we should have a consensus for Heroes Wiki on handling chapter by chapter summaries for such for-pay book novels in general. <s>True, however, now that I have your attention, will you for once protect the main page? --[[User:TScrooMcgEE|TScrooMcgEE]] 18:17, 14 December 2006 (EST)</s> |
|||
:Given that the majority of edits to the main page have been legitimate and useful, no. You comprise a very tiny minority of people who come here and vandalize the site. If in the future it becomes necessary, we will. But at present vandals are easily dealt with. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 18:19, 14 December 2006 (EST)) |
|||
::You must be thinking that I am just another vandal. I am not—I am here to help. I saw the link on a Google ad, came over to the site, and decided to make a splash in the water (obviously not in the best way, but the most effective way.) Based on your username, I would have to guess that you are the founder of this wiki—the site will eventually need main page protection, especially if it grows. However, when (not if) this happens, there are ways to work around it. |
|||
:* Keep in mind that the main page should be an introduction to this site. If designed properly, there mustn't be a need for anyone (you, I, Dave) to edit it. Observe the architecture of Wikipedia's Main Page. You will find that the page utilizes templates, which allows for changes to be made without disrupting the layout, etc. The main page there has had relatively few edits in the last year, despite the fact that the visible content is changed everyday. The page is protected, and yet she still grows. |
|||
:*Have edit links at the bottom of template boxes, or active links in bold. The specific articles will be open for editing, however the main page will be locked. Furthermore, if you want to change messages, the specific template can be altered, while maintaining the integrity of the main page, which will be valuable in the long run. |
|||
:*Although I've never watched the show, think of me as a wiki architect (at least on the open-source side of things, not so much the MediaWiki php part) I can perhaps put something together for the main page. * Our main page already is all templates (well, and one inclusion). We can lock it if we need to and still let people edit it, but for right now, there's no reason not to let well-intended people change the layout, formatting, etc. Almost all of our templates do have edit links. *** Hi Admin, I just have another long time issue with the images part of the central file database on the French wiki with the "https" web address. in most of the web browsers (like Mozilla Firefox or Opera for example), they are considered as unsecured elements (unlike the local ones) and are not downloaded by default on the page. In order to see them, I have to temporarily deactivate the protection on the web page, which automatically reactivates a few clicks later. That's annoying as I would not have to duplicate all the needed files on the local French wiki. Thanks for your input. Adding Wikipedia interwiki link on French Heroes Wiki and creation of my account on the German wiki.
Hi Admin,
Is it possible please to add the Interwiki shortcut link for the French Wikipedia (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1) and create for me an account on the German Heroes Wiki (to update interwiki links mostly). Thank you very much. Best Regards --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 08:15, 9 April 2015 (EDT)
- I've updated the interwiki links on the French site and created a new account for you on the German site. I'll email your password. (Admin (talk) 21:47, 16 April 2015 (EDT))
Adding images I uploaded
Hi Admin, I want to put the images I uploaded into pages like images from A Clear and Present Danger and images from Trust and Blood. I don't really know if it would improve the galleries, I just want to put them there considering no one else seems to upload these files. If you reply to this, thank you. --Virgil (talk)
Another set of additions
Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if I could put some of the images into pages like images of Tracy Strauss or images of Claire Bennet or other character pages like that and even putting them in character history pages to show them what happened to them in the corresponding episode. Could I also put images of other episodes in character history pages? I was just wondering. If you reply to this, thank you for reading it. --Virgil (talk)
span id not working
Hey, Admin. I just noticed that on the list of evolved humans page, there are a few times it says "span id" where it shouldn't. I think those are for links from other pages so that clicking on the links will take you directly to the span id section. Any way you could fix that? It must have gotten missed in the last update... Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:04, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
- I'll see if I can figure it out. Where's Miami for this kind of magic when ya need em?! :) (Admin (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2015 (EDT))
- Hi, the main reason is that the {{Evolved}}'s field name for those rows have been filled by a wikilink. the "id" doesn't support wikilinks in its name. More, the template auto-add a wikiling for the character. Cheers --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 14:47, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
- In all seriousness, do you need me to dig up Miami's email address? I might have it somewhere. Or you can leave a message on his page -- he might still have it set to send him a notification... Just a thought... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:51, 12 July 2015 (EDT)

wanted pages
There seems to be a glitch with Special:WantedPages. It's pulling everything from various templates. For instance, there are 140 links to the word "unknown", even though none of them are actually red links. It might actually be an issue with the #ifexist command, but I'm not sure. Could you take a look? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:17, 21 July 2015 (EDT)
- I saw this a while ago, I thought it was a problem with a specific template at the time though. It does look like something to do with #ifexist. -Lөvөl 01:24, 22 July 2015 (EDT)
Enabling UserID creation on French wiki
Hi Admin
Is it possible please to reactive the userid creation on the French Heroes Wiki ? Thank you very much. Cheers --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 01:34, 22 July 2015 (EDT)
- Did I ever ask you for French translations to some of the questions we ask new users to try to confirm they're real people? If you drop me an email at my username at heroeswiki.com I'll send you the current questions to be translated. Once I've added those I can re-enable new user registrations. (Admin (talk) 01:18, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
Are we unlocked?
-- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:58, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- I think you answered your own question. :) Sorry for any delays, but it's all part of my preparations to be able to scale up more easily once Heroes returns. (Admin (talk) 01:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
- Yeah, I kept trying to save that message because I didn't want to lose work on a template. No need to apologize -- and the delay was short. I'm excited for the upscale! I'm assuming you saw the messages above about some of the issues... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:11, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- I have seen most of them, but the code is much more difficult to change now compared to how it was years ago. As for the span issue, is that perhaps a template issue someone could repair? We use some rather elaborate templates here and admittedly I've never been able to decode many of them. :) (Admin (talk) 01:20, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
- Understandable. Hardvice was a genius! ... Do you know what version of HTML the site is running? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:42, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- Sites don't typically run a particular version of HTML, though they may incorporate features in different versions to varying degrees. Browsers however support specific versions of HTML (or features defined in that particular version). That being said I didn't check to see if there's any HTML5 in the current code (and it would be difficult for me to tell offhand), but I would hope if so MediaWiki is designed to be backwards compatible. (Admin (talk) 01:50, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
- Okay, I think the issue on list of evolved humans page is solved. For some reason, it wasn't allowing the
supcode to work near thespan idcode. Not sure why -- it always worked in the past. Oh well, I just took out the superscript footnote numbers and replaced them with asterisks and daggers. So problem fixed ... but I'd still like to know what caused the issue in the first place... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

formatting in system messages
Hey, Admin. I'm noticing that many of the system messages aren't taking formatting the way they're supposed to. For instance, MediaWiki:Returnto has always used the <b> tag for bold and it's worked for years. But now when the message appears (like here for instance), it's not formatted correctly. Instead it shows the tags in the message. Any idea why, or how to fix it? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:32, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
- I know I've seen the tags and not the rendered HTML for a long time, but it may well have been since the update. I'm working on updating MediaWiki again it's possible these issues go away there. I'll let you know when there's an updated test site to play around in. (Admin (talk) 12:02, 28 July 2015 (EDT))
Rollback
I'm assuming that was an accidental rollback you made on Sam (disambig)? :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:31, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
- Quite right. Good catch. I often keep an eye on the recent changes from my phone and I must have tapped the rollback link by mistake. :) (Admin (talk) 21:14, 10 September 2015 (EDT))
- It's happened to me too a few times since I've started editing more on mobile devices. It's nice to have such an easy rollback button when we have vandals, but the downside is a button that gets pushed accidentally too often. Oh well! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:29, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
Bots
Hi! As you might already know, the writers have named the first Heroes Reborn episode the same as the last episode of Heroes (Brave New World), so we've now got about 400 pages to re-link to the Heroes episode instead of the disambig page that we're later going to be using. -Kon (talk) 22:22, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
- You're welcome to do it yourself using your account. We don't enforce any restrictions on bots as long as they're working right. :) (Admin (talk) 00:42, 16 September 2015 (EDT))
- Oh, great! Do you mind if I make another account to use the bot on? The reason I ask is so you can flag it as a bot, so that its 400 or so edits don't appear in the RecentChanges by default. That would be an eyesore for anyone monitoring the RC for proper user edits. -Kon (talk) 01:44, 17 September 2015 (EDT)
I tried making a page for Facebook, due to it being referenced by several characters over several episodes, but it looks like it's... disappeared from view? It exists, but I can't link to it anywhere. -Kon (talk) 09:11, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- Like this? Facebook (Admin (talk) 14:33, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
- Yes, exactly like that... could it be due to some sort of spam filter? -Kon (talk) 14:44, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- I don't believe I have any filtering in place that would cause that, no. (Admin (talk) 14:49, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
- Oh, that's interesting. It's not showing up for YOU. Yeah, check any spam/privacy blockers you might have. Interesting that it just completely hides the link for you according to that screenshot. (Admin (talk) 14:52, 19 September 2015 (EDT))

Annoying ad
Thought I should let you know about an annoying ad:

It's for Jeep. It was able to minimize it, but it probably shouldn't be set to be expanded as the default. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:47, 23 September 2015 (EDT)
- Yeah, I've seen it (or one like it). I don't like ads like that, but unfortunately I don't have the control over specific ads that I once did (with the exception of ones that are clearly malfunctioning which this one isn't). It's counterproductive in my opinion for companies to use ads like that as it only encourages more people to use ad blockers. Hopefully that ad will move out of the rotation soon enough. (Admin (talk) 18:21, 23 September 2015 (EDT))

A few minutes ago I was receiving a "403 Forbidden" error when trying to open any page. It is back to normal now. -Lөvөl 02:53, 3 October 2015 (EDT)

Yatta!
Thanks for the patroller rights! I just put them to use by checking off the yellow pages in Special:NewPages, and some other recent edits. -Kon (talk) 11:07, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
- Certainly! You've been a great contributor here and it's certainly not going unnoticed. :) (Admin (talk) 22:44, 12 October 2015 (EDT))
I started a discussion on Talk:Saving Charlie/summary about whether this chapter-by-chapter summaries page should be deleted as it seems to me to be summarizing in depth the for-pay book novel content (electronic, hardcover/hardbound, paperback), which to me seems may not be fair use. I am also asking whether we should have a consensus for Heroes Wiki on handling chapter by chapter summaries for such for-pay book novels in general. If you would like to add your input to the discussion, it would be more than welcome. Thanks. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:53, 22 October 2015 (EDT)
- I saw it, thanks. Been thinking about and researching the situation since you wrote it in fact. (Admin (talk) 17:07, 22 October 2015 (EDT))
Animated Gifs and 9thwonders.com
It was asked by Sandubadear at Talk:Hachiro Otomo about making a gif of Hachiro materializing Katana Girl. Only after I posted some screenshots did I then find out on my user talk page that an animated gif was what was wanted. I'm not comfortable doing the requested animated gif anywhere. However, as the revised 9thwonders.com site contains some animated gifs of some abilities like Tommy's shown there in what appears to be official tumblr blogs, I'm contacting you as I think you might want to develop some policy regarding this (whether it is allowed for documentation purpose on this wiki and/or elsewhere). And if it is allowed, then perhaps someone else can help Sandubadear.--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:39, 8 November 2015 (EST)
- I would recommend bringing it up on the community portal talk page and getting input there. (Admin (talk) 14:11, 9 November 2015 (EST))
- Ok, thanks... and I see now that we do still have a category for animations so I think I may have answered at least part of my own question.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:57, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- I've started a related discussion at Heroes Wiki talk:Community Portal#Animated Gifs and 9thwonders.com, and I've fixed the anchor for the screenshots in my above comment.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:24, 9 November 2015 (EST)

Upload error on the French wiki
Hi Admin,
I have some issues when I try to upload images for the French wiki. I have this error message like this wiki screenshot:
Unable to create folder "xxx". I think that the wiki image directory is write-protected for the Heroeswiki group. Can you please fix the issue. Thank you very much. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 17:16, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Should be fixed now. Thanks for letting me know. (Admin (talk) 23:23, 25 January 2018 (UTC))
- It works! Thank you very much. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 05:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Admin, I just have another long time issue with the images part of the central file database on the French wiki with the "https" web address. in most of the web browsers (like Mozilla Firefox or Opera for example), they are considered as unsecured elements (unlike the local ones) and are not downloaded by default on the page. In order to see them, I have to temporarily deactivate the protection on the web page, which automatically reactivates a few clicks later. That's annoying as I would not have to duplicate all the needed files on the local French wiki. Thanks for your input. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 09:01, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
- It works! Thank you very much. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 05:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
