== Adding Wikipedia interwiki link on [[:fr:|French Heroes Wiki]] and creation of my account on the German wiki. ==

Hi Admin,<br/>Is it possible please to add the Interwiki shortcut link for the French Wikipedia (<code><nowiki>http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1</nowiki></code>) and create for me an account on the German Heroes Wiki (to update interwiki links mostly). Thank you very much. Best Regards --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 08:15, 9 April 2015 (EDT)
* I've updated the interwiki links on the French site and created a new account for you on the German site. I'll email your password. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 21:47, 16 April 2015 (EDT))
** Thank you very much Admin. It works! Cheers. --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 04:22, 17 April 2015 (EDT)

== Adding images I uploaded ==

Hi Admin,
== Ad-jacking? ==
I want to put the images I uploaded into pages like images from A Clear and Present Danger and images from Trust and Blood. I don't really know if it would improve the galleries, I just want to put them there considering no one else seems to upload these files. If you reply to this, thank you. --[[User:Virgil|Virgil]] ([[User talk:Virgil|talk]])

Hey, what was up with another website popping up everytime I clicked a link? --{{User:Heroe/sig}} 18:31, 28 June 2007 (EDT)
* Unless someone snuck a crafty ad by Google it could be something with your browser. There shouldn't be any popup ads here. If you notice it happening with a particular ad let me know and I'll block the ad from being displayed here. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 21:35, 28 June 2007 (EDT))
** It just happened. The website is [http://www.creativecommons.com CreativeCommons.com] --{{User:Heroe/sig}} 13:15, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
*** What was the ad for? Creative Commons isn't the kind of site that would use popup ads... it's not even advertising anything. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:19, 6 July 2007 (EDT))
**** It wasn't exactly an ad or a popup. I would type in the url of this site, and it took me there. --{{User:Heroe/sig}} 13:22, 6 July 2007 (EDT)
***** Not sure why it would do that unless perhaps there's something up with your browser? Do you have Firefox installed already? If so and you continue to have trouble with IE, try Firefox instead and see if you have problems with that, too. If you don't have Firefox already there's a button for it all the way at the bottom of this page. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:26, 6 July 2007 (EDT))

== Another set of additions ==
== Interwiki ==
Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if I could put some of the images into pages like images of Tracy Strauss or images of Claire Bennet or other character pages like that and even putting them in character history pages to show them what happened to them in the corresponding episode. Could I also put images of other episodes in character history pages? I was just wondering. If you reply to this, thank you for reading it. --[[User:Virgil|Virgil]] ([[User talk:Virgil|talk]])

== span id not working ==
I think [[wikimedia:]] links to the wrong place. compare [[wikimedia:Help:Interwiki linking]] and [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Interwiki_linking wikimedia:Help:Interwiki linking]. -[[User:Level|Lөv]][[User talk:Level|ө]][[Special:Contributions/Level|l]] 14:28, 5 June 2007 (EDT) from [[Help talk:Editing]], it is still wrong. -[[User:Level|Lөv]][[User talk:Level|ө]][[Special:Contributions/Level|l]] 15:20, 9 July 2007 (EDT)
* It's correct. <nowiki>[[wikimedia:]]</nowiki> links to the Wikimedia Foundation and <nowiki>[[mediawiki:]]</nowiki> links to MediaWiki. mediawiki and wikimedia are two different things. Your interwiki link is using wikimedia and your direct link is using mediawiki. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 15:47, 9 July 2007 (EDT))
** Oh, ok, is there a interwiki link to [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Section here]? And [[mediawiki:]] doesn't work. -[[User:Level|Lөv]][[User talk:Level|ө]][[Special:Contributions/Level|l]] 17:41, 9 July 2007 (EDT)
*** There used to be, but I took it out. I just put it back in. It's <nowiki>[[metawikipedia:]]</nowiki>. And you're right, <nowiki>[[mediawiki:]]</nowiki> isn't an actual interwiki link. I'm personally not a huge fan of interwiki links because I like it to be clear when a link is to an external site. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 17:51, 9 July 2007 (EDT))

Hey, Admin. I just noticed that on the [[list of evolved humans]] page, there are a few times it says "span id" where it shouldn't. I think those are for links from other pages so that clicking on the links will take you directly to the span id section. Any way you could fix that? It must have gotten missed in the last update... Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:04, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
== Hungarian ==
Hello, i am a big fan from Hungary. I help glady translation. I have time and instrumentality. Wath is my work? I learn fast. (Sorry, my grammar is bad)--[[User:Mazsola39|mazsola39]] 05:56, 13 July 2007 (EDT)
* I'll see if I can figure it out. Where's Miami for this kind of magic when ya need em?! :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 13:31, 12 July 2015 (EDT))
** Hi, the main reason is that the <tt><nowiki>{{Evolved}}</nowiki></tt>'s field <tt>name</tt> for those rows have been filled by a wikilink. the "id" doesn't support wikilinks in its name. More, the template auto-add a wikiling for the character. Cheers --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 14:47, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
*See [[Heroes Wiki:Languages]] for information. Admin will set up a localized wiki. :) 12:43, 13 July 2007 (EDT)
*** In all seriousness, do you need me to dig up Miami's email address? I might have it somewhere. Or you can leave a message on his page -- he might still have it set to send him a notification... Just a thought... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 22:51, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
* If there are several people who are very interested in doing translations then I'll set up a localized version of it for Hungarian. Right now we have several languages that very few people even contribute to, so before creating any additional ones I want to make sure there is a strong demand for it and a number of people excited (not just willing) to work on it. It's more work than a single person can do, so there needs to be a group of people who truely want to do it. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 12:46, 13 July 2007 (EDT))
**Ok. Yet i call several person, and they are helper. Yet is 3, i hope more to come. (Sorry my english so bad) --[[User:Mazsola39|mazsola39]] 17:16, 15 July 2007 (EDT)

== Other languages not working ==
== wanted pages ==

There seems to be a glitch with [[Special:WantedPages]]. It's pulling everything from various templates. For instance, there are [[Special:WhatLinksHere/Unknown|140 links to the word "unknown"]], even though none of them are actually red links. It might actually be an issue with the #ifexist command, but I'm not sure. Could you take a look? Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 23:17, 21 July 2015 (EDT)
Is there a reason the other languages are not working? -[[User:Level|Lөv]][[User talk:Level|ө]][[Special:Contributions/Level|l]] 12:02, 13 July 2007 (EDT)
* I saw this a while ago, I thought it was a problem with [[Template_talk:Character_box#WantedPages|a specific template]] at the time though. It does look like something to do with #ifexist. -[[User:Level|Lөv]][[User talk:Level|ө]][[Special:Contributions/Level|l]] 01:24, 22 July 2015 (EDT)
* What do you mean? ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 12:18, 13 July 2007 (EDT))
** The languages links were not working for me, but I could open new pages in the English wiki. I tried other sites to make sure and the ones I tried worked, so I figured it was here and posted, then everything stopped working. I think it was my ISP. -[[User:Level|Lөv]][[User talk:Level|ө]][[Special:Contributions/Level|l]] 12:55, 13 July 2007 (EDT)

On the search page, in addition to all the namespace check boxes, is it possible to have a "check all" box? ... or is that a pipe dream? -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 17:49, 20 July 2007 (EDT)
* Did I ever ask you for French translations to some of the questions we ask new users to try to confirm they're real people? * Thanks. :) I received a few emails from people at work, too. One of them saying that if I "worked in the office, we'd be having cake now, but since he does not, none of us will be enjoying cake." Heheh. Too funny. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 17:37, 27 July 2007 (EDT))
* I think you answered your own question. :) Sorry for any delays, but it's all part of my preparations to be able to scale up more easily once Heroes returns. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 01:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
** Yeah, I kept trying to save that message because I didn't want to lose work on a template. No need to apologize -- and the delay was short. I'm excited for the upscale! I'm assuming you saw the messages above about some of the issues... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:11, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
*** I have seen most of them, but the code is much more difficult to change now compared to how it was years ago. As for the span issue, is that perhaps a template issue someone could repair? We use some rather elaborate templates here and admittedly I've never been able to decode many of them. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 01:20, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
**** Understandable. [[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] was a genius! ... Do you know what version of HTML the site is running? -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:42, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
***** Sites don't typically run a particular version of HTML, though they may incorporate features in different versions to varying degrees. Browsers however support specific versions of HTML (or features defined in that particular version). That being said I didn't check to see if there's any HTML5 in the current code (and it would be difficult for me to tell offhand), but I would hope if so MediaWiki is designed to be backwards compatible. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 01:50, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
****** Okay, I think the issue on [[list of evolved humans]] page is solved. For some reason, it wasn't allowing the <code>sup</code> code to work near the <code>span id</code> code. Not sure why -- it always worked in the past. Oh well, I just took out the superscript footnote numbers and replaced them with asterisks and daggers. So problem fixed ... but I'd still like to know what caused the issue in the first place... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 02:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

== Spoilers on german Wiki ==
== formatting in system messages ==
Hey, we got a problem coming up on the german wiki and i hope you might be able to help us. Since Heroes has not yet started in germany (it will start in october) every piece of info in the wiki is a spoiler. So far we have more or less copied the articles from this wiki and translated them and stuff like that. When people are gonna start using the wiki they will be able to see much info than they could have gotten by watching the first episodes due to the fact that we already got all the info that is only revealed later in the season. so what shall we do now? mark all the articles as spoiler and remove the spoiler-tag bit by bit or leave it the way it is and leave it completly to the user to find out what info may be a spoiler and what not? i hope you get the problem and may have a advice for us what we shall do. thx [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 10:45, 31 July 2007 (EDT)
* I'd say it's up to you and the community on the German wiki to decide what the wiki will be. If it's just a translation of the English wiki into German then it would make sense to leave all the articles intact and just add spoiler tags. If you'd like it to follow the show as it airs in Germany, then you could do something like comment out any spoiler information in the articles and then uncomment it after the episode airs. It's really up to you all on the German wiki to decide how you'd like to handle it. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 12:32, 31 July 2007 (EDT))
** That's alot of work to do if we comment out all the spoiler info and uncomment them later. currently the staff thats activly working is pretty small. there is only me and like 2 or 3 others that work now and then...nothing regular so far :/ i guess we could go by the idea of MiamiVolts and mark all episodes as spoiler that have not been aired yet. maybe we can even remove them from some templates to make it harder to accidentaly read them...don't know yet. [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 12:58, 31 July 2007 (EDT)
***Another option, which is much easier to do but less direct, is to do a site notice that all information on the site is from episodes that have already aired. That way, there's just one edit to do be done, and the notice is at the top of every page. That's not necessarily what I would do, but it's an option. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 00:45, 1 August 2007 (EDT)
****How do I add a site notice then? What page do I have to edit to do so or is it something only the sys-admin can do? [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 10:15, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
***** [[de:MediaWiki:Sitenotice]] -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 11:48, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

Hey, Admin. I'm noticing that many of the [[Special:AllMessages|system messages]] aren't taking formatting the way they're supposed to. For instance, [[MediaWiki:Returnto]] has always used the <tt><nowiki><b></nowiki></tt> tag for bold and it's worked for years. But now when the message appears (like [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Template:AppearancesThe_Painted_Lady&action=edit&section=T-1 here] for instance), it's not formatted correctly. Instead it shows the tags in the message. Any idea why, or how to fix it? Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 03:32, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
== My friend ==
* I know I've seen the tags and not the rendered HTML for a long time, but it may well have been since the update. I'm working on updating MediaWiki again it's possible these issues go away there. I'll let you know when there's an updated test site to play around in. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 12:02, 28 July 2015 (EDT))

== Rollback ==
Hey, did you visit [http://mandalynnsmemoirs.blogspot.com/ my friend Mandy's blog]? She said she got a visit from somebody I think is you. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:19, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
* Yep, it was me. I saw she linked to Heroes Wiki. I got a kick out of her referring to this as your unpaid job. :) Plus it's great that she'll be able to catch up on the whole first season of Heroes on Tivo. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 10:59, 2 August 2007 (EDT))
** We're watching it together, and we're up to ''[[Run!]]''--it's been nice catching up on episodes I haven't seen in quite some time....How did you find her site? Do you just search Google for Heroes Wiki? -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 18:59, 2 August 2007 (EDT)
*** I may have been watching the referer logs and seen someone click on the link to get here, I forget. I check out the sites that people are visiting us from sometimes. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 19:04, 2 August 2007 (EDT))

I'm assuming that was an accidental rollback you made on [[Sam (disambig)]]? :) -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 20:31, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
== French Wiki ==
* Quite right. Good catch. I often keep an eye on the recent changes from my phone and I must have tapped the rollback link by mistake. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 21:14, 10 September 2015 (EDT))
** It's happened to me too a few times since I've started editing more on mobile devices. It's nice to have such an easy rollback button when we have vandals, but the downside is a button that gets pushed accidentally too often. Oh well! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 21:29, 10 September 2015 (EDT)

== Bots ==
I'm not sure if you watch it or not, but check the [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Heroes_Wiki_talk:Languages&curid=1839&diff=87707&oldid=85162&rcid=91191 latest addition] to [[Heroes Wiki talk:Languages#French Version|HW:Languages]]. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 13:43, 3 August 2007 (EDT)
Hi! As you might already know, the writers have named the first Heroes Reborn episode the same as the last episode of Heroes (Brave New World), so we've now got about 400 pages to re-link to the Heroes episode instead of the [[Brave New World (disambig)|disambig page]] that we're later going to be using. I've offered to do this myself with a wiki bot, but I don't know if I would be allowed to since I'm a relatively new user and the only bot account on the wiki belongs to you. Basically all instances of "Episode:Brave New World" need to be replaced with "Episode:Brave New World (Heroes)". -[[User:Kon|Kon]] ([[User talk:Kon|talk]]) 22:22, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
* I do watch it, thanks. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 15:29, 3 August 2007 (EDT))
* You're welcome to do it yourself using your account. We don't enforce any restrictions on bots as long as they're working right. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] ([[User talk:Admin|talk]]) 00:42, 16 September 2015 (EDT))
** Oh, great! Do you mind if I make another account to use the bot on? The reason I ask is so you can flag it as a bot, so that its 400 or so edits don't appear in the RecentChanges by default. That would be an eyesore for anyone monitoring the RC for proper user edits. -[[User:Kon|Kon]] ([[User talk:Kon|talk]]) 01:44, 17 September 2015 (EDT)

* Keep up the good work over there and you're likely to become an administrator over there. That's how people became administrators on the other language wikis. :) An administrator can't do a whole lot more than others to be honest and vandalism can be fixed by anyone. I'm not sure what you're saying could be "suppressed" but I'd imagine anyone could do that as well if necessary. The main things administrators can do is block people and protect pages and we try to avoid doing either unless absolutely necessary. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 14:19, 7 August 2007 (EDT))

Thought I should let you know about an annoying ad:
* Hey, Desperate July. You've done some great work here so far and are helping to bring the French Heroes Wiki to life. I've made you an administrator here so you can handle any administrative tasks that might arise. I recommend checking out the english site's administrator's page [[Heroes_Wiki:Administrators|here]] for some tips and suggestions on being an administrator at Heroes Wiki. We may handle some things differently than other wikis. For instance we try to avoid protecting pages or banning users unless absolutely necessary. Congrats and keep up the good work here! * Yeah, I've seen it (or one like it). I don't like ads like that, but unfortunately I don't have the control over specific ads that I once did (with the exception of ones that are clearly malfunctioning which this one isn't). It's counterproductive in my opinion for companies to use ads like that as it only encourages more people to use ad blockers. Hopefully that ad will move out of the rotation soon enough. For an example of something on the Heroes wiki that could use Winter, [http://wiki.swiftlytilting.com/User:Frantik Here's the "did you know" box with 4 random factoids which change with each view]. I started a discussion on [[Talk:Saving Charlie/summary‎]] about whether this chapter-by-chapter summaries page should be deleted as it seems to me to be summarizing in depth the for-pay book novel content (electronic, hardcover/hardbound, paperback), which to me seems may not be fair use. I am also asking whether we should have a consensus for Heroes Wiki on handling chapter by chapter summaries for such for-pay book novels in general. If you would like to add your input to the discussion, it would be more than welcome. Thanks. :)--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 16:53, 22 October 2015 (EDT)

Hey Admin, is digging a way to get a link upper in the google's research results ? --{{User:FrenchFlo/sig}} 17:19, 25 August 2007 (EDT)
* Not exactly, no. It's a popular user-driven news aggregation site (at least here in the US) where news gets submitted and voted on. The idea is that if lots of people vote for a particular article then it's usually something of high interest and it gets placed closer to the top so more people can find it by default. ==Hi==
(I left this in your talk page in Portuguese Heroes Wiki)

*Hello, I found Heroes Wiki today. But I'm a little sad, because I thought it was going to be like Lostpedia is. Full of members and fantastics admins. I'm translating something already. But, when I saw the recent pages, I saw that only my contribution was there, nobody is contributing here? It's sad. I would love to transform this wiki, the best site or something like it in Brazil. --[[User:Caio wgm|Caio wgm]] 19:59, 3 September 2007 (EDT)
** Hi, Caio wgm. Most of the work at Heroes Wiki has been over here on the English site. The Portuguese wiki was setup when a few people were interested in translating the articles here into Portuguese, but it's a lot of work and I think it's easy for people to lose interest. If you're interested in contributing there and helping to improve it that would be great. I'd love for the wiki to grow and I'm sure it'd be a big help to other Portuguese-speaking people. Lostpedia's Portuguese site probably took longer to grow than their English site did, so it's going to be the same way here. If you'd like to contribute over there I'm sure it could become very popular. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 20:21, 3 September 2007 (EDT))
*** I wouldn't suggest sharing e-mail addresses w/o permission, but perhaps Admin can e-mail user Lezinhu @ the Portuguese Heroes Wiki to see if he/she is still interested in being an administrator at the Portuguese site and that Caio wgm is looking for some help? Just a thought... PS: You don't see the history in 'Special:recentchanges' cause it's been since like March since they have done any edits there.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 20:41, 3 September 2007 (EDT)

== French Ad ==
''(copy-paste)''
* I'm thinking of doing some advertising of the wiki targeted towards French visitors. One ad I use for the English site says: "Everything you want to know about NBC's hit show Heroes." Could you translate this into French or give me a good French equivalent so I can purchase advertising for French readers? If NBC isn't in France then feel free to leave that part out since it might not make sense to French viewers. ([[user:Admin|Admin]] 28 août 2007 à 13:43 (EDT))
** Any suggestions? ([[user:Admin|Admin]] 10 septembre 2007 à 09:57 (EDT))
*** I'm really sorry, I forgot it.... <br>First, I think we can't use "NBC" in this ad because french viewers don't know this channel. However, choose a channel will be very complicated because (sorry if i do a mistake) it's not a <u>french</u> version but a '''<u>french-speaking person</u>''' version. So, there are many channels : TF1 in France, RTL-TVI in Belgium, TSR1 in Switzerland, ...<br>If we put off the part with the channel : '''"Tout ce que vous avez toujours voulu savoir sur ''Heroes''".'''<br>If you want to specify Heroes is a TV show : '''"Tout ce que vous avez toujours voulu savoir sur la série événement ''Heroes''".'''<br>What do you think about it ? [[User:Desperate July|Desperate July]] 02:39, 11 September 2007 (EDT)
**** I like the second one where it mentions it's a television series, but it's a little too long for Google ads. Are there any words that can be omitted like "vous" and still make sense? I know in spanish for instance you can often leave off certain pronouns because they are implicit based on the verb conjugation. Not sure if it's the case here, too. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 02:47, 11 September 2007 (EDT))

== Seth images ==
* Hi, John. I thought the videos you created to promote yourself were interesting, especially the Heroes one. Concerning the trading card images of yourself that you uploaded: Do you hold the copyright for those images? If not then we're going to need permission from the copyright holder in order for them to remain here. Thanks! ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 02:51, 14 September 2007 (EDT))
**Hi, glad you like the shorts. I'm rather new to this, but I can say that the images are definitely mine, though they're not copywritten by me (they're basically headshots, I never saw the need). If the issue is the "Heroes" logo, I can just change the image so that it's just me, sans border. Let me know what works for you. --[[User:ISpeakDeadPeople|ISpeakDeadPeople]] 02:55, September 14, 2007
*** Essentially we just need to know if you created the images yourself or if they were created for you by a third party. If you created them yourself then you hold an implicit copyright over the image itself (albeit not the logo, but I don't think that's a major issue) and that should be good enough. Thanks, and excellent job on the [[Seth]] page. For someone who's "new to this" your first article was well formatted. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 02:58, 14 September 2007 (EDT))
****The two guys I credit under the picture on the Seth page are responsible for the image's creation. But as I paid them for their services (and as they are both friends of mine), the image belongs to me, undoubtedly. Let me know if you need more than that, I'm happy to assist. Oh, and thanks about the page. I'm no techie, but I just took a look at how the other pages were built and copied. Sylaresque? I dunno. --[[User:ISpeakDeadPeople|ISpeakDeadPeople]] 03:05, September 14, 2007

* I meant to ask you this ages ago and forgot, but is it possible to enable the patrol shortcut (Alt+P or Alt+Shift+P on Firefox) for new pages, like [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Theory:Claude_Rains&rcid=99408 this one]? They're considered different than pages you patrol from a diff page, so the shortcut doesn't work. No big deal, just wondering if it's possible.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 02:06, 21 September 2007 (EDT)

**** "Da Man" has just finished identifying and tuning terribly inefficient reporting queries against the database at work and is getting some sleep now. == Displaying foreign characters ==
* Something else for you to look into when you're comparing the server options (or maybe you already know?)... When using Google translate, Bionic Wiki is showing most foreign characters correctly, but not Heroes Wiki. I think there's a server option you need to set for it to view correctly, but I'm not sure which it is. Also, the top frame that says "Automatically translated" from English disappears upon loading it in Heroes Wiki (I'm not sure if that was desired or not).--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:39, 22 September 2007 (EDT)
** The "automatically translated" frame disappearing at the top is expected. Can you give me an example of where the foreign characters aren't being displayed properly? Using Google Translate there shouldn't really be anything specific to the site that would affect the display of foreign characters. If you can give me a link that doesn't appear to be working for you that'd be helpful. Also perhaps a screenshot of what you're seeing specifically. As I sad on the [[Heroes_Wiki_talk:Languages]]-page, The Dutch Wiki is very, very quiet. But other than than, I'd like to contribute in any way I can! --[[User:Martijnvs|Martijnvs]] 04:11, 23 September 2007 (EDT)
* Is the series airing over where you are right now? If so, where are they at? Are they in the middle of season one somewhere or has season one finished airing? ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 05:56, 23 September 2007 (EDT))
** It's being aired here. Last week was episode 14, so it's not that people still have to get used to it. A lot of people have watched it when it aired in the US, the others that are watching it on Dutch tv find their info elsewhere, since the english wiki has too much spoilers in it, and the Dutch wiki is far from complete (and has some spoilers here and there). --[[User:Martijnvs|Martijnvs]] 07:25, 23 September 2007 (EDT)

==Daniel Linderman==
*Now come on, you know I do appropriate work on this site! Watch the Takezo Kensei video part 5 and see if you see anything relating to Daniel Linderman. Awesome work on the wiki, always. Thanks([[User:Heroes360|Heroes360]] 00:05, 25 September 2007 (EDT))
** Ah, I just watched the video. very interesting. Thanks! :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 00:38, 25 September 2007 (EDT))

==Four Months Later synopsis==
* Are you planning on doing one? If not, I might type one up in the morning. I'm not comfortable making FML the AOTW with the current synopsis. It's just not detailed enough and has a lot of style problems which need to be addressed. Lemme know either way.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 03:57, 25 September 2007 (EDT)
** I wouldn't get a chance to do one until tonite at the earliest. If you feel like writing one, go for it. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 08:18, 25 September 2007 (EDT))

==Problem with Wiki-Function in german wiki==
*In a template i copied from this wiki to the german one the function "BASEPAGENAME" is used. in [http://de.heroeswiki.com/Sandbox/Test Sandbox on the german Wiki] you can see, that it does not work as it is supposed to. Maybe i am wrong but shouldn't it return "Sandbox" instead of "Sandbox/Test"? Or am i getting something wrong here? [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 06:26, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
** Very odd. It's working on the [http://de.heroeswiki.com/Diskussion:Sandbox/Test discussion page], but not the regular page. I was wondering if it was a problem with the namespace, but it's not working on a [http://de.heroeswiki.com/Vorlage:Sandbox/Test template page], either, which has an established namespace. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 06:42, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
*** By default most namespaces don't support true subpages. Which means you can name a page Foo/Bar, but you won't be creating a subpage of Foo named Bar, you'll just be creating an article named "Foo/Bar". In order for it to treat it as a subpage I need to define that particular namespace as supporting subpages. I've gone ahead and added subpage support to the main namespace over there, check it out now. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 08:00, 27 September 2007 (EDT))
**** Seems to be working now. Thx alot :) [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 08:12, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

==Prison Break Wiki==
* I was wondering why there is no wiki for Prison Break cause it's quite a good show and certainly there is alot of info about it that could be put into a wiki. Or is there even one but i just can't find it? [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 15:50, 27 September 2007 (EDT)
** Wikipedia has information on [[wikipedia:Prison_Break|Prison_Break]] plus there's a Wikia [http://prisonbreak.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page wiki] about it as well. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 15:53, 27 September 2007 (EDT))
***Ok, thx alot. I really did not find the wiki..not even by using google search... [[User:Waldmeister|Waldmeister]] 15:55, 27 September 2007 (EDT)

== "sister wiki" ==

So what exactly does that mean? Do you run that one as well? Or is it just partnered with us? --{{User:Heroe/sig}} 11:13, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
* Yeah, I set up [[bionicwiki:|Bionic Wiki]] as well. I'm [[bionicwiki:User:Admin|Admin]] over there as well. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 12:29, 29 September 2007 (EDT))

== Rounded Corners ==
* So I'm browsing the site in IE right now (long story) and I'm shocked how wrong it looks without rounded corners. Is it safe to assume there's still no rounded corner support in IE without using corner images? That's the suckage. Incidentally, I just had a good laugh re: your Oliver Grigsby/Eleanor Rigby problem--I've caught myself doing the same, though certainly not ''every'' time I hear Oliver's name.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 20:23, 29 September 2007 (EDT)

*** IE 7 something on (ugh) Windows Vista Enterprise.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 20:34, 29 September 2007 (EDT)
**** I don't know a whole lot of HTML beyond the basics. It goes back to being asthetically challenged. The way I see it, if I can't play an instrument why learn to read sheet music? :) There are probably some tricks we could use to get it to work. Maybe some tweaked CSS or JavaScript, but I don't know how offhand. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 20:42, 29 September 2007 (EDT))
***** I'm ok with HTML but I suck at JavaScript, so it's taken me a while to get the hang of what it's doing, but I've been poking around on the other site. I left some observations on the Nifty talk page (several of which are probably incorrect--we're probably more limited by my abilities than by the script itself). It's definitely worth considering, but good gravy is it going to be a big job.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 21:22, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
****** Are you saying the script writing would be a big job, or the changes to the wiki would be a big job? And where can I get some of said gravy? -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 21:44, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
******* Well, the scripts themselves are already there. We just need to modify [[mediawiki:common.js]] (I think once per rounded element, unfortunately) and [[mediawiki:common.css]]. But the Wiki-side changes will probably be very involved. There's some stuff we do inside templates that doesn't behave nicely with the scripts, so we might have to redo some of the templates. And the secret to good gravy? An 18/10 stainless steel pan--not a nonstick. You get better <i>fond</i> and thus tastier gravy.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 22:07, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
******** Where is this Nifty talk page? Now you got me interested in checking it out. PS: Spraying the pan with Pam, even the generic kind, helps too. ;)--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 22:22, 30 September 2007 (EDT)
******** Is it really that involved, though? There are less than 200 [[:Category:templates|templates]], and as far as I can tell, it's mostly a cut and paste job after the script is written. Or am I completely missing something. BTW, the best gravy has chunks. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 22:38, 30 September 2007 (EDT)

Hi Admin,
Is it possible please to add the Interwiki shortcut link for the French Wikipedia (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1) and create for me an account on the German Heroes Wiki (to update interwiki links mostly). Thank you very much. Best Regards --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 08:15, 9 April 2015 (EDT)

  • I've updated the interwiki links on the French site and created a new account for you on the German site. I'll email your password. (Admin (talk) 21:47, 16 April 2015 (EDT))
    • Thank you very much Admin. It works! Cheers. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 04:22, 17 April 2015 (EDT)

Adding images I uploaded

Hi Admin, I want to put the images I uploaded into pages like images from A Clear and Present Danger and images from Trust and Blood. I don't really know if it would improve the galleries, I just want to put them there considering no one else seems to upload these files. If you reply to this, thank you. --Virgil (talk)

Another set of additions

Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if I could put some of the images into pages like images of Tracy Strauss or images of Claire Bennet or other character pages like that and even putting them in character history pages to show them what happened to them in the corresponding episode. Could I also put images of other episodes in character history pages? I was just wondering. If you reply to this, thank you for reading it. --Virgil (talk)

span id not working

Hey, Admin. I just noticed that on the list of evolved humans page, there are a few times it says "span id" where it shouldn't. I think those are for links from other pages so that clicking on the links will take you directly to the span id section. Any way you could fix that? It must have gotten missed in the last update... Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:04, 12 July 2015 (EDT)

  • I'll see if I can figure it out. Where's Miami for this kind of magic when ya need em?! :) (Admin (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2015 (EDT))
    • Hi, the main reason is that the {{Evolved}}'s field name for those rows have been filled by a wikilink. the "id" doesn't support wikilinks in its name. More, the template auto-add a wikiling for the character. Cheers --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 14:47, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
      • In all seriousness, do you need me to dig up Miami's email address? I might have it somewhere. Or you can leave a message on his page -- he might still have it set to send him a notification... Just a thought... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:51, 12 July 2015 (EDT)

wanted pages

There seems to be a glitch with Special:WantedPages. It's pulling everything from various templates. For instance, there are 140 links to the word "unknown", even though none of them are actually red links. It might actually be an issue with the #ifexist command, but I'm not sure. Could you take a look? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:17, 21 July 2015 (EDT)

  • I saw this a while ago, I thought it was a problem with a specific template at the time though. It does look like something to do with #ifexist. -Lөvөl 01:24, 22 July 2015 (EDT)

Enabling UserID creation on French wiki

Hi Admin
Is it possible please to reactive the userid creation on the French Heroes Wiki ? Thank you very much. Cheers --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 01:34, 22 July 2015 (EDT)

  • Did I ever ask you for French translations to some of the questions we ask new users to try to confirm they're real people? If you drop me an email at my username at heroeswiki.com I'll send you the current questions to be translated. Once I've added those I can re-enable new user registrations. (Admin (talk) 01:18, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
    • No, you didn't. I transmit my email address to you as you asked. Thanks. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 02:21, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

Are we unlocked?

-- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:58, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

  • I think you answered your own question. :) Sorry for any delays, but it's all part of my preparations to be able to scale up more easily once Heroes returns. (Admin (talk) 01:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
    • Yeah, I kept trying to save that message because I didn't want to lose work on a template. No need to apologize -- and the delay was short. I'm excited for the upscale! I'm assuming you saw the messages above about some of the issues... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:11, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
      • I have seen most of them, but the code is much more difficult to change now compared to how it was years ago. As for the span issue, is that perhaps a template issue someone could repair? We use some rather elaborate templates here and admittedly I've never been able to decode many of them. :) (Admin (talk) 01:20, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
        • Understandable. Hardvice was a genius! ... Do you know what version of HTML the site is running? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:42, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
          • Sites don't typically run a particular version of HTML, though they may incorporate features in different versions to varying degrees. Browsers however support specific versions of HTML (or features defined in that particular version). That being said I didn't check to see if there's any HTML5 in the current code (and it would be difficult for me to tell offhand), but I would hope if so MediaWiki is designed to be backwards compatible. (Admin (talk) 01:50, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
            • Okay, I think the issue on list of evolved humans page is solved. For some reason, it wasn't allowing the sup code to work near the span id code. Not sure why -- it always worked in the past. Oh well, I just took out the superscript footnote numbers and replaced them with asterisks and daggers. So problem fixed ... but I'd still like to know what caused the issue in the first place... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

formatting in system messages

Hey, Admin. I'm noticing that many of the system messages aren't taking formatting the way they're supposed to. For instance, MediaWiki:Returnto has always used the <b> tag for bold and it's worked for years. But now when the message appears (like here for instance), it's not formatted correctly. Instead it shows the tags in the message. Any idea why, or how to fix it? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:32, 28 July 2015 (EDT)

  • I know I've seen the tags and not the rendered HTML for a long time, but it may well have been since the update. I'm working on updating MediaWiki again it's possible these issues go away there. I'll let you know when there's an updated test site to play around in. (Admin (talk) 12:02, 28 July 2015 (EDT))

Rollback

I'm assuming that was an accidental rollback you made on Sam (disambig)? :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:31, 10 September 2015 (EDT)

  • Quite right. Good catch. I often keep an eye on the recent changes from my phone and I must have tapped the rollback link by mistake. :) (Admin (talk) 21:14, 10 September 2015 (EDT))
    • It's happened to me too a few times since I've started editing more on mobile devices. It's nice to have such an easy rollback button when we have vandals, but the downside is a button that gets pushed accidentally too often. Oh well! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:29, 10 September 2015 (EDT)

Bots

Hi! As you might already know, the writers have named the first Heroes Reborn episode the same as the last episode of Heroes (Brave New World), so we've now got about 400 pages to re-link to the Heroes episode instead of the disambig page that we're later going to be using. -Kon (talk) 22:22, 15 September 2015 (EDT)

  • You're welcome to do it yourself using your account. We don't enforce any restrictions on bots as long as they're working right. :) (Admin (talk) 00:42, 16 September 2015 (EDT))
    • Oh, great! Do you mind if I make another account to use the bot on? The reason I ask is so you can flag it as a bot, so that its 400 or so edits don't appear in the RecentChanges by default. That would be an eyesore for anyone monitoring the RC for proper user edits. -Kon (talk) 01:44, 17 September 2015 (EDT)
      • Feel free! (Admin (talk) 01:55, 17 September 2015 (EDT))

Facebook

I tried making a page for Facebook, due to it being referenced by several characters over several episodes, but it looks like it's... disappeared from view? It exists, but I can't link to it anywhere. -Kon (talk) 09:11, 19 September 2015 (EDT)

  • Like this? Facebook (Admin (talk) 14:33, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
    • Yes, exactly like that... could it be due to some sort of spam filter? -Kon (talk) 14:44, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
      • I don't believe I have any filtering in place that would cause that, no. (Admin (talk) 14:49, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
      • Oh, that's interesting. It's not showing up for YOU. Yeah, check any spam/privacy blockers you might have. Interesting that it just completely hides the link for you according to that screenshot. (Admin (talk) 14:52, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
        • Just checked my Chrome extensions and it turns out that AdBlock is responsible so I've disabled it for this site (I had a feeling it would turn out to be something painfully obvious...). Thanks for your help! -Kon (talk) 15:07, 19 September 2015 (EDT)

Annoying ad

Thought I should let you know about an annoying ad:

It's for Jeep. It was able to minimize it, but it probably shouldn't be set to be expanded as the default. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:47, 23 September 2015 (EDT)

  • Yeah, I've seen it (or one like it). (Admin (talk) 18:21, 23 September 2015 (EDT))

A few minutes ago I was receiving a "403 Forbidden" error when trying to open any page. It is back to normal now. -Lөvөl 02:53, 3 October 2015 (EDT)

Thanks for the patroller rights! I just put them to use by checking off the yellow pages in Special:NewPages, and some other recent edits. -Kon (talk) 11:07, 12 October 2015 (EDT)

  • Certainly! You've been a great contributor here and it's certainly not going unnoticed. :) (Admin (talk) 22:44, 12 October 2015 (EDT))

I started a discussion on Talk:Saving Charlie/summary‎ about whether this chapter-by-chapter summaries page should be deleted as it seems to me to be summarizing in depth the for-pay book novel content (electronic, hardcover/hardbound, paperback), which to me seems may not be fair use. I am also asking whether we should have a consensus for Heroes Wiki on handling chapter by chapter summaries for such for-pay book novels in general. If you would like to add your input to the discussion, it would be more than welcome. Thanks. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:53, 22 October 2015 (EDT)

  • I saw it, thanks. Been thinking about and researching the situation since you wrote it in fact. (Admin (talk) 17:07, 22 October 2015 (EDT))

Animated Gifs and 9thwonders.com

It was asked by Sandubadear at Talk:Hachiro Otomo about making a gif of Hachiro materializing Katana Girl. Only after I posted some screenshots did I then find out on my user talk page that an animated gif was what was wanted. I'm not comfortable doing the requested animated gif anywhere. However, as the revised 9thwonders.com site contains some animated gifs of some abilities like Tommy's shown there in what appears to be official tumblr blogs, I'm contacting you as I think you might want to develop some policy regarding this (whether it is allowed for documentation purpose on this wiki and/or elsewhere). And if it is allowed, then perhaps someone else can help Sandubadear.--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:39, 8 November 2015 (EST)

Spam again

Hi Admin,
It seems that one spammer has survived. I can't block him as I do not have admin rights on this wiki. Thank you. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 15:08, 7 January 2016 (EST)

Upload error on the French wiki

Hi Admin,
I have some issues when I try to upload images for the French wiki. I have this error message like this wiki screenshot:
Unable to create folder "xxx". I think that the wiki image directory is write-protected for the Heroeswiki group. Can you please fix the issue. Thank you very much. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 17:16, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

  • Should be fixed now. Thanks for letting me know. (Admin (talk) 23:23, 25 January 2018 (UTC))
    • It works! Thank you very much. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 05:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
      • Hi Admin, I just have another long time issue with the images part of the central file database on the French wiki with the "https" web address. in most of the web browsers (like Mozilla Firefox or Opera for example), they are considered as unsecured elements (unlike the local ones) and are not downloaded by default on the page. In order to see them, I have to temporarily deactivate the protection on the web page, which automatically reactivates a few clicks later. That's annoying as I would not have to duplicate all the needed files on the local French wiki. Thanks for your input. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 09:01, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
