== Adding Wikipedia interwiki link on [[:fr:|French Heroes Wiki]] and creation of my account on the German wiki. == |
|||
Hi Admin,<br/>Is it possible please to add the Interwiki shortcut link for the French Wikipedia (<code><nowiki>http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1</nowiki></code>) and create for me an account on the German Heroes Wiki (to update interwiki links mostly). Thank you very much. Best Regards --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 08:15, 9 April 2015 (EDT) |

* Where is this Nifty talk page? Now you got me interested in checking it out. PS: Spraying the pan with Pam, even the generic kind, helps too. ;)--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 22:22, 30 September 2007 (EDT) |

** Ok, I found the link in MediaWiki:Common.js and refreshed my memory. I think this was discussed before, but I'm not sure how you are considering to implement it now. We could define a new class for tables and divs that automatically converts the borders to be rounded when specified. And another thing to note is not every box or even every corner needs rounding... the character box is fine as-is, imho.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:21, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
*** Character box is already rounded in browsers which support it. What we're talking about is making the IE version look like the Firefox version. We're not going to pick and choose which ones to make look like they were rendered in a competent browser.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 00:52, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
**** I'm at loss, then, as to why you were suggesting needing to change template code to make it work in IE? Couldn't the changes just be done in MediaWiki:Common.js after testing that the browser is IE?--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 01:24, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
***** No. Nifty corners requires a combination of CSS and Javascript. The CSS needs to be in the templates for the script to affect them.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 02:54, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
****** Hmm, when I view the source for the main page in IE, I see things like "-moz-border-radius:10px;" as a table attribute. That's what firefox uses to determine that a corner is required and I thought you could just add the extra info IE needs every time such code appears. I'll take a closer look at Nifty tommorrow and try to determine what the CSS is that needs to be added tp the templates (not Common.css). I'm not seeing it right now.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 03:36, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
******* We're actually already working on this offsite and have a pretty good idea what we're doing. The Nifty script we're using requires that IDs be assigned to the elements to which it will be applied. Those IDs need CSS at both the stylesheet level and the wiki article level, as well as individual function calls in common.js, and a lot of the markup we currently use in our templates is incompatible with the way the script does up the rounded corners. Since the CSS needs to be in the template level anyway, we're looking at possibly replacing, not supplementing, the -moz-borders (the script generally leaves things looking OK if Javascript is turned off, so it's possible to leave the moz code in and make the Javascript agent-specific, but we might have to make incompatible changes to the templates because some of the stuff we do all the time in templates (like image links) breaks the way the script renders either borders or corners.) But yes, to get it to work properly in a wiki, we need three separate things (well, four if you count the actual script): a function call in common.js, a style block in common.css, and at least an ID (and possibly an inline style block, depending on the formatting) in the individual element to which it needs to apply. Since a lot of the actual formatting (colors, borders, and the like) is specified in both common.js and common.css, it's not quite as simple as setting up a class and applying it to all the elements we want affected--and that's setting aside the compatibility issues with the actual existing markup in our templates. We can't simply apply the same class or ID to all corners we want rounded on the whole site because each function call needs to know the inside and outside colors of the corner, the border style, the corner size, and which corners to round, and that changes from template to template. One function won't do it; neither will one class in common.css--and in any case, we're always going to have to go through each and every rounded element to assign an ID so the script will apply to it and make sure the markup doesn't break the corner rendering.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 04:40, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
******** You can do multiple functions and class definitions in common.js, and I don't see why you can't grab all of that info. using one or more javascript functions and pass it to another. Thanks, I appreciate the lengthy explanation, but the only thing that made sense to me is about the image links breaking the script. I'll check into it more, I guess, when you finish adding it, since it's being worked on offsite where I can't see.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 13:50, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |

Hi Admin, |
|||
== Rounded Corners - involved?== |
|||
I want to put the images I uploaded into pages like images from A Clear and Present Danger and images from Trust and Blood. I don't really know if it would improve the galleries, I just want to put them there considering no one else seems to upload these files. If you reply to this, thank you. --[[User:Virgil|Virgil]] ([[User talk:Virgil|talk]]) |
|||
* Is it really that involved, though? There are less than 200 [[:Category:templates|templates]], and as far as I can tell, it's mostly a cut and paste job after the script is written. Or am I completely missing something. BTW, the best gravy has chunks. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 22:38, 30 September 2007 (EDT) |
|||
** It depends. Most of them will be cut-and-paste. And most of the infoboxes are enough alike that, even if we have to redo them, we can do it once and update twenty or so templates quickly. But some of them are ''designed'' in ways that are incompatible with the Nifty scripts, so we might have to recreate them--particularly anything with alternate or variable colors. I messed around with the character box, for example, and it might prove challenging. The nice thing is we can pretty much spend as long as we want getting them working on the other site, and then copy them over here when they're working. Some other snags: it's not going to work very well with pages that have more than one [[template:blurb|blurb]] without some redesign work. It's manageable, all in all, but I wanted to make sure we agree it's worthwhile before we start ripping stuff apart.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 23:18, 30 September 2007 (EDT) |
|||
*** Did things really look that bad using IE7? Or did they just look different? Maybe it's just easier for me to force everyone that comes here to install Firefox. :) I wouldn't do that, but I can wish. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 23:45, 30 September 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
**** Mostly just different. The square boxes look so primitive now that I'm used to the rounded ones. I think that's the reason for my hesitation: as Morrissey would put it, "such a little thing, but the difference it made was grave".--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 00:00, 1 October 2007 (EDT) |

Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if I could put some of the images into pages like images of Tracy Strauss or images of Claire Bennet or other character pages like that and even putting them in character history pages to show them what happened to them in the corresponding episode. Could I also put images of other episodes in character history pages? I was just wondering. If you reply to this, thank you for reading it. --[[User:Virgil|Virgil]] ([[User talk:Virgil|talk]]) |

==Heidi Change== |
|||
*Hi, I was wondering why you reverted a grammatical clean-up I made to the [[Heidi Petrelli]] article, specifically her "Four Months Later" reference? The original sentence has no period and isn't as explanatory as it could be. The revert comment, "restoring original perspective", also bewilders me; I'm certain my structuring maintains the perspective of a viewer and not of someone in-universe or otherwise. ([[User:Revengeance|Revengeance]] 12:42, 7 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
** Hey there. The revision got reverted because on the [[Heidi Petrelli]] when I saw your change on 10/1 it looked like it had just been rewritten to be from Angela and Nathan's perspective instead of from Heidi's perspective (plus I didn't notice any drastic issues with the way it was written originally). Since it's Heidi's article it makes more sense for it to be written from her perspective. If you'd like to correct any grammar and ensure that it remains from Heidi's perspective, that'd be great! Hope this helps. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 13:17, 7 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
** Your edit was, as you correctly stated, in the perspective of a viewer. The correct [[help:perspective|perspective]] for in-universe articles like Heidi's is an in-universe perspective. You're right, the sentence is missing a period, so I just added one. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 13:22, 7 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
**Thanks for answering. I'm sorry, but I don't know if I'm thinking of "Heidi's perspective" in the same way you are. You don't mean that a sentence like, for example, "Heidi left Nathan" should be rewritten through Heidi's eyes as "I left Nathan", do you? ([[User:Revengeance|Revengeance]] 14:02, 7 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
*** Instead of saying the perspective was off, I probably should have said that the summary should be "centered on Heidi". More specifically, if Heidi remains the subject of the sentence rather than being in the predicate then the summary should be good. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 14:05, 7 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
*** As for your question about first vs. third person: the correct perspective is still in the third person, but as though the world of ''Heroes'' is real (avoiding mentions of scenes, episodes, viewers, commercial breaks, and the like). I personally don't see a perspective issue (though, arguably, "it is unknown" ''could'' be seen as being the viewer's perspective).--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 14:47, 7 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
***Yeah, I sort of understand what RyanGibsonStewart was talking about now. I didn't get the main perspective used around here because for one, I'm used to Wikipedia's viewer-oriented perspective and two, I hadn't even noticed the difference to begin with. Well, I guess I learnt something. Thanks again. ([[User:Revengeance|Revengeance]] 08:01, 8 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
Hey, Admin. I just noticed that on the [[list of evolved humans]] page, there are a few times it says "span id" where it shouldn't. I think those are for links from other pages so that clicking on the links will take you directly to the span id section. Any way you could fix that? It must have gotten missed in the last update... Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 01:04, 12 July 2015 (EDT) |

|||
** Hi, the main reason is that the <tt><nowiki>{{Evolved}}</nowiki></tt>'s field <tt>name</tt> for those rows have been filled by a wikilink. the "id" doesn't support wikilinks in its name. More, the template auto-add a wikiling for the character. Cheers --[[User:LIMAFOX76|LIMAFOX76]] ([[User talk:LIMAFOX76|talk]]) 14:47, 12 July 2015 (EDT) |

There seems to be a glitch with [[Special:WantedPages]]. It's pulling everything from various templates. For instance, there are [[Special:WhatLinksHere/Unknown|140 links to the word "unknown"]], even though none of them are actually red links. It might actually be an issue with the #ifexist command, but I'm not sure. Could you take a look? Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 23:17, 21 July 2015 (EDT) |

==Sanderses'== |
|||
*How can this seem to be correct? It's most certainly not correct by any stretch of the imagination. A plural noun does not to be made plural! Geez, I have a degree in English and Speech Communication or it probably wouldn't even bother me. I don't understand why the totally incorrect, unsupported form of the word is being used when it is very readily and easily available to find the correct usage. Look here: http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000132.htm or here http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/possessives.htm Using -es on a proper noun that ends in -s is just wrong. Using -es AND apostrophe is just doubly wrong because it is redundant and incorrect. "If a singular proper noun ends in s, add an apostrophe." http://grammar.uoregon.edu/case/possnouns.html |
|||
**Look here it is right from the University of Oregon: '''If a singular proper noun ends in s, add an apostrophe.''' http://grammar.uoregon.edu/case/possnouns.html |
|||
*** It's not singular, though, it's plural. We're referring to the home of the family named Sanders which can be called The Sanderses for instance. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 19:46, 14 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
** To quote the second link: |
|||
Some writers will say that the -s after Charles' is not necessary and that adding only the apostrophe (Charles' car) will suffice to show possession. Consistency is the key here: if you choose not to add the -s after a noun that already ends in s, do so consistently throughout your text. William Strunk's Elements of Style recommends adding the 's. (In fact, oddly enough, it's Rule Number One in Strunk's "Elementary Rules of Usage.") You will find that some nouns, especially proper nouns, especially when there are other -s and -z sounds involved, turn into clumsy beasts when you add another s: "That's old Mrs. Chambers's estate." In that case, you're better off with "Mrs. Chambers' estate." |
|||
**Emphasizing '''consistency''', this site does not drop the possessive "s", but keeps it. --[[User:Baldbobbo|Bob]] 19:46, 14 October 2007 (EDT) |
|||
*** That's a different issue. That's referring to singular names. The whole issue here is that we're using the names in the plural. (i.e. The Sanderses went out to dinner.) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 19:49, 14 October 2007 (EDT)) |
|||
****The point is this site adds something totally incorrect and irrelevant. It does not need -es and an apostrophe. The -es is totally superfluous and wrong. If you want to leave it up that is fine, but it is not correct. "Sanders" is a singular proper noun that ends in -s, therefore adding the apostrophe makes it plural and possessive. |

Ha, I couldn't remember if I was supposed to reply in my discussion page or not, but I digress. But you guys are right, the standards say if it's common it should be used. When it comes to that, I usually use the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_comic_book_superpowers List of Comic Book Superpowers] - I didn't see anything. And in this case, "reflex" just throws me off. Heh, if you knew me in person you'd see how I correct people on term definitions all the time. It's actually quite annoying. I wasn't the biggest fan of "photographic reflexes" originally either, but I'm coming around to it. It's got the benefit of being very similar to that Taskmaster guy, it was the term used by the National Enquirer for her power (they might have access to some good source of information because they've been very close on all their spoiler predictions so far), plus it follows the [[Help:Naming_conventions#Power_Names|naming convention]] we're applying to all power names. ***** Sites don't typically run a particular version of HTML, though they may incorporate features in different versions to varying degrees. Browsers however support specific versions of HTML (or features defined in that particular version). That being said I didn't check to see if there's any HTML5 in the current code (and it would be difficult for me to tell offhand), but I would hope if so MediaWiki is designed to be backwards compatible. Hey, Admin. I'm noticing that many of the [[Special:AllMessages|system messages]] aren't taking formatting the way they're supposed to. For instance, [[MediaWiki:Returnto]] has always used the <tt><nowiki><b></nowiki></tt> tag for bold and it's worked for years. But now when the message appears (like [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Template:AppearancesThe_Painted_Lady&action=edit§ion=T-1 here] for instance), it's not formatted correctly. Instead it shows the tags in the message. Any idea why, or how to fix it? Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 03:32, 28 July 2015 (EDT) |

Hi! As you might already know, the writers have named the first Heroes Reborn episode the same as the last episode of Heroes (Brave New World), so we've now got about 400 pages to re-link to the Heroes episode instead of the [[Brave New World (disambig)|disambig page]] that we're later going to be using. I've offered to do this myself with a wiki bot, but I don't know if I would be allowed to since I'm a relatively new user and the only bot account on the wiki belongs to you. Basically all instances of "Episode:Brave New World" need to be replaced with "Episode:Brave New World (Heroes)". -[[User:Kon|Kon]] ([[User talk:Kon|talk]]) 22:22, 15 September 2015 (EDT) |

** Oh, great! Do you mind if I make another account to use the bot on? The reason I ask is so you can flag it as a bot, so that its 400 or so edits don't appear in the RecentChanges by default. One was about the community project Tim said he'd talk about, and he said he'd give more details in about a month to 6 weeks. That timing would coincide nicely with NBCU's and the HEROES involvement in Green Week. I already happened to [http://getonboardnow.org Get On Board Now] and donate money for some trees to reduce my carbon footprint, and it seems that, besides the [http://snurl.com/GOBN1 Almighty Forest] (also a bonus feature on the EA dvd, and I got the 1st tree in the 1st forest of the 1st island, along with the 6th tree of the 25th forest of the 9th island, which looks like the series premiere date of HEROES in [http://www.getonboardnow.org/forest_popup.html?deeplink=9.25.06 the deeplink]), it seems NBCU's commitment to working with the Conservation Fund extends to more than just the Evan Almighty movie. *** Hi Admin, I just have another long time issue with the images part of the central file database on the French wiki with the "https" web address. in most of the web browsers (like Mozilla Firefox or Opera for example), they are considered as unsecured elements (unlike the local ones) and are not downloaded by default on the page. That's annoying as I would not have to duplicate all the needed files on the local French wiki. Thanks for your input. ==Content Question== |
|||
*I posted an episode summary "spoiler" under the talk section of the episode "Powerless." Isn't this the correct place to put unpublished spoilers concerning future episodes? The reason I ask is because it was promptly deleted by [User:Lost Soul] on the grounds that spoilers of this kind are not appropriate for this forum. If episode summary spoilers are not welcome, why do we have a spoilers section to begin with? He laments that he "accidentally read it," which is the whole reason we have spoilers posted in a separate section, away from general content. I request permission to undo this overreaching censorship, and restore the deleted page for review, commentary, and updates from those who choose to read it. Thanks! --{{User:Trecord/sig}} 16:34, 9 November 2007 (EST) |
|||
** Hey there. You did put it on the right page. [[Spoiler talk:Powerless]] is an appropriate place for spoilers. [[User:Lost Soul|Lost Soul's]] comment as it was reverted was "remove; we don't, as far as I know, do full spoilers, i.e. whole episode summaries (I tried to avoid reading it and caught something by mistake, which is the exact reason". I think Lost Soul was trying to play it safe, but I do believe the information is appropriate (I haven't actually read it). That is, as you point out, the whole reason for separate Spoiler articles. Those wishing to avoid spoilers need to stay away from any article named "Spoiler" which is why I don't usually visit them until after the episode has aired. There aren't really degrees of spoilers. A spoiler page may spoil something minor, or it may spoil something huge. It's a risk you take when visiting a spoiler page. :) ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 16:40, 9 November 2007 (EST)) |
|||
** Thanks admin. I'll restore it if it hasn't been already. Even though it's on a "spoiler" page, I'll add the red spoiler tag to be extra safe. Cheers. --{{User:Trecord/sig}} 16:43, 9 November 2007 (EST) |

*****I'd prefer it on the talk page since it's so substantially larger and greater detail than the other spoilers on that page. The article has stuff about casting calls, but the talk has a full episode summary. So I'd leave it how it is.--{{User:Baldbobbo/sig}} 16:55, 9 November 2007 (EST) |

== Rounded boxes, take two == |
|||
So my good friends at [http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com Encyclopedia Dramatica] have solved the rounded boxes on IE thing fairly well. They use two templates, one for the top and one for the bottom. |
|||
The top: |
|||
<pre><div style="display: block; overflow: hidden; height: 4px; background-color: white;" align="center" width="100%"> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 5px 0px 5px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 3px 0px 3px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 2px 0px 2px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 1px 0px 1px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
</div></pre> |
|||
The bottom: |
|||
<pre><div style="display: block; overflow: hidden; height: 4px; background-color: white;" align="center" width="100%"> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 1px 0px 1px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 2px 0px 2px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 3px 0px 3px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |
|||
<div width="100%" style="margin: 0px 5px 0px 5px; background-color: {{{1}}}; height: 1px; overflow: hidden;"></div> |

** New browser-independent blurbs: [[template:newblurb]], [[template:newblurbclose]] |

*** Works very well. No borders, since it's just stacked divs, though we could trick it using border-top, border-left, border-right, and border-bottom (maybe--might end up looking very staggery). |
|||
*** One problem: the variable <code>color=</code> needs to be set in the top ''and'' bottom calls. No big deal, but it means we can't just replace the current blurb templates and have everything work. |
|||
** Test of the character box using new blurbs: [[template:character box/test]] (example {{querylink|link=Peter Petrelli|qs=&oldid=126020|linktext=here}}) |
|||
*** A bit fiddly to get set up, but looks good. No major problems, but the lack of borders means we might need to change some color combos--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 03:04, 14 November 2007 (EST) |

== Bot tasks == |
|||
Saw the comment on Hardvice's page about bot's. Any chance bots would help in making Portal a namespace? Also, can there be a bot that sets something like "Current episode checklist" and "Current graphic novel checklist" when {{currentep}} and {{currentgn}} are changed?--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 03:18, 12 November 2007 (EST) |
|||
* I can look into writing a bot that would handle all the grunt work involved with moving pseudonamespace articles into a real namespace. Could you elaborate on the "current episode checklist" suggestion? ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 03:24, 12 November 2007 (EST)) |
|||
** That would be awesome if a bot could do that work on the pseudonamespace. I'll explain what I mean about the checklists. When an episode airs or a graphic novel is released, there are certain redirects that need to be set. Some of them are subsets of the other, but do to restrictions of using templates with redirects, you can't make some of the redirects as dynamic as would be desired. For instance, each week we used to update the "Current episode checklist" and "Current graphic novel checklist" redirects, which are used on "[[Current events]]". Templates "currentep" and "currentgn" were made so that "Current events" and other pages that referenced the current episode and graphic novel titles could be accessed dynamically. However, that meant that they had to be replaced on the article itself, not on the redirect page. So now if you click on "[[Current episode checklist]]" and "[[Current graphic novel checklist]]", it takes you to "[[Current events]]". It's a soft redirect for people who have linked externally to those pages. However, with a bot, perhaps tasks like updating those redirects and the ones for the "Heroes Interactive", etc., could be automated, eliminating some of the tasks required for each release.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 03:42, 12 November 2007 (EST) |
|||
*** Basically, it would just be a matter of checking [[template:currentep]] and [[template:currentgn]] and updating the redirects at [[current episode checklist]] and [[current graphic novel checklist]] if they differ.--[[User:Hardvice|Hardvice]] <small>[[User talk:Hardvice|(talk)]]</small> 03:47, 12 November 2007 (EST) |

*Yes, the Miscellaneous Art category should be removed from images that are going into the Trading Cards category. While we were debating whether to globally switch from "powers" to "abilities" for article naming and content, some people went ahead and began the swap. Lost Soul and I have asked for the changes to be reverted, but Ryan and Hardvice are biased in favor of the change and appear to disagree about the revert. I think this needs to be taken care of before Heroes airs tonight, if we are going to do a revert. Adding Wikipedia interwiki link on French Heroes Wiki and creation of my account on the German wiki.
Hi Admin,
Is it possible please to add the Interwiki shortcut link for the French Wikipedia (http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/$1) and create for me an account on the German Heroes Wiki (to update interwiki links mostly). Thank you very much. Best Regards --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 08:15, 9 April 2015 (EDT)
- I've updated the interwiki links on the French site and created a new account for you on the German site. I'll email your password. (Admin (talk) 21:47, 16 April 2015 (EDT))
Adding images I uploaded
Hi Admin, I want to put the images I uploaded into pages like images from A Clear and Present Danger and images from Trust and Blood. I don't really know if it would improve the galleries, I just want to put them there considering no one else seems to upload these files. If you reply to this, thank you. --Virgil (talk)
Another set of additions
Thank you for the reply and I was wondering if I could put some of the images into pages like images of Tracy Strauss or images of Claire Bennet or other character pages like that and even putting them in character history pages to show them what happened to them in the corresponding episode. Could I also put images of other episodes in character history pages? I was just wondering. If you reply to this, thank you for reading it. --Virgil (talk)
span id not working
Hey, Admin. I just noticed that on the list of evolved humans page, there are a few times it says "span id" where it shouldn't. I think those are for links from other pages so that clicking on the links will take you directly to the span id section. Any way you could fix that? It must have gotten missed in the last update... Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:04, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
- I'll see if I can figure it out. Where's Miami for this kind of magic when ya need em?! :) (Admin (talk) 13:31, 12 July 2015 (EDT))
- Hi, the main reason is that the {{Evolved}}'s field name for those rows have been filled by a wikilink. the "id" doesn't support wikilinks in its name. More, the template auto-add a wikiling for the character. Cheers --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 14:47, 12 July 2015 (EDT)
- In all seriousness, do you need me to dig up Miami's email address? I might have it somewhere. Or you can leave a message on his page -- he might still have it set to send him a notification... Just a thought... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:51, 12 July 2015 (EDT)

wanted pages
There seems to be a glitch with Special:WantedPages. It's pulling everything from various templates. For instance, there are 140 links to the word "unknown", even though none of them are actually red links. It might actually be an issue with the #ifexist command, but I'm not sure. Could you take a look? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:17, 21 July 2015 (EDT)
- I saw this a while ago, I thought it was a problem with a specific template at the time though. It does look like something to do with #ifexist. -Lөvөl 01:24, 22 July 2015 (EDT)
Enabling UserID creation on French wiki
Hi Admin
Is it possible please to reactive the userid creation on the French Heroes Wiki ? Thank you very much. Cheers --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 01:34, 22 July 2015 (EDT)
- Did I ever ask you for French translations to some of the questions we ask new users to try to confirm they're real people? If you drop me an email at my username at heroeswiki.com I'll send you the current questions to be translated. Once I've added those I can re-enable new user registrations. Are we unlocked?
-- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:58, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- I think you answered your own question. :) Sorry for any delays, but it's all part of my preparations to be able to scale up more easily once Heroes returns. (Admin (talk) 01:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
- Yeah, I kept trying to save that message because I didn't want to lose work on a template. No need to apologize -- and the delay was short. I'm excited for the upscale! I'm assuming you saw the messages above about some of the issues... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:11, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- I have seen most of them, but the code is much more difficult to change now compared to how it was years ago. As for the span issue, is that perhaps a template issue someone could repair? We use some rather elaborate templates here and admittedly I've never been able to decode many of them. :) (Admin (talk) 01:20, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
- Understandable. Hardvice was a genius! ... Do you know what version of HTML the site is running? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:42, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- Sites don't typically run a particular version of HTML, though they may incorporate features in different versions to varying degrees. Browsers however support specific versions of HTML (or features defined in that particular version). That being said I didn't check to see if there's any HTML5 in the current code (and it would be difficult for me to tell offhand), but I would hope if so MediaWiki is designed to be backwards compatible. (Admin (talk) 01:50, 27 July 2015 (EDT))
- Okay, I think the issue on list of evolved humans page is solved. For some reason, it wasn't allowing the
supcode to work near thespan idcode. Not sure why -- it always worked in the past. Oh well, I just took out the superscript footnote numbers and replaced them with asterisks and daggers. So problem fixed ... but I'd still like to know what caused the issue in the first place... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:07, 27 July 2015 (EDT)

- Understandable. Hardvice was a genius! ... Do you know what version of HTML the site is running? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:42, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
- Yeah, I kept trying to save that message because I didn't want to lose work on a template. No need to apologize -- and the delay was short. I'm excited for the upscale! I'm assuming you saw the messages above about some of the issues... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:11, 27 July 2015 (EDT)
formatting in system messages
Hey, Admin. I'm noticing that many of the system messages aren't taking formatting the way they're supposed to. For instance, MediaWiki:Returnto has always used the <b> tag for bold and it's worked for years. But now when the message appears (like here for instance), it's not formatted correctly. Instead it shows the tags in the message. Any idea why, or how to fix it? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:32, 28 July 2015 (EDT)
- I know I've seen the tags and not the rendered HTML for a long time, but it may well have been since the update. I'm working on updating MediaWiki again it's possible these issues go away there. I'll let you know when there's an updated test site to play around in. (Admin (talk) 12:02, 28 July 2015 (EDT))
Rollback
I'm assuming that was an accidental rollback you made on Sam (disambig)? :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:31, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
- Quite right. Good catch. I often keep an eye on the recent changes from my phone and I must have tapped the rollback link by mistake. :) (Admin (talk) 21:14, 10 September 2015 (EDT))
- It's happened to me too a few times since I've started editing more on mobile devices. It's nice to have such an easy rollback button when we have vandals, but the downside is a button that gets pushed accidentally too often. Oh well! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:29, 10 September 2015 (EDT)
Bots
Hi! As you might already know, the writers have named the first Heroes Reborn episode the same as the last episode of Heroes (Brave New World), so we've now got about 400 pages to re-link to the Heroes episode instead of the disambig page that we're later going to be using. -Kon (talk) 22:22, 15 September 2015 (EDT)
- You're welcome to do it yourself using your account. We don't enforce any restrictions on bots as long as they're working right. :) (Admin (talk) 00:42, 16 September 2015 (EDT))
- Oh, great! Do you mind if I make another account to use the bot on? The reason I ask is so you can flag it as a bot, so that its 400 or so edits don't appear in the RecentChanges by default. That would be an eyesore for anyone monitoring the RC for proper user edits. -Kon (talk) 01:44, 17 September 2015 (EDT)
I tried making a page for Facebook, due to it being referenced by several characters over several episodes, but it looks like it's... disappeared from view? It exists, but I can't link to it anywhere. -Kon (talk) 09:11, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- Like this? Facebook (Admin (talk) 14:33, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
- Yes, exactly like that... could it be due to some sort of spam filter? -Kon (talk) 14:44, 19 September 2015 (EDT)
- I don't believe I have any filtering in place that would cause that, no. (Admin (talk) 14:49, 19 September 2015 (EDT))
- Oh, that's interesting. It's not showing up for YOU. Yeah, check any spam/privacy blockers you might have. Interesting that it just completely hides the link for you according to that screenshot. (Admin (talk) 14:52, 19 September 2015 (EDT))

Annoying ad
Thought I should let you know about an annoying ad:

It's for Jeep. It was able to minimize it, but it probably shouldn't be set to be expanded as the default. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:47, 23 September 2015 (EDT)
- Yeah, I've seen it (or one like it). I don't like ads like that, but unfortunately I don't have the control over specific ads that I once did (with the exception of ones that are clearly malfunctioning which this one isn't). It's counterproductive in my opinion for companies to use ads like that as it only encourages more people to use ad blockers. Hopefully that ad will move out of the rotation soon enough. Server Error
A few minutes ago I was receiving a "403 Forbidden" error when trying to open any page. It is back to normal now. -Lөvөl 02:53, 3 October 2015 (EDT)
- That was me testing out something. Obviously didn't work. :) (Admin (talk) 02:55, 3 October 2015 (EDT))
Yatta!
Thanks for the patroller rights! I just put them to use by checking off the yellow pages in Special:NewPages, and some other recent edits. -Kon (talk) 11:07, 12 October 2015 (EDT)
- Certainly! You've been a great contributor here and it's certainly not going unnoticed. :) (Admin (talk) 22:44, 12 October 2015 (EDT))
I started a discussion on Talk:Saving Charlie/summary about whether this chapter-by-chapter summaries page should be deleted as it seems to me to be summarizing in depth the for-pay book novel content (electronic, hardcover/hardbound, paperback), which to me seems may not be fair use. I am also asking whether we should have a consensus for Heroes Wiki on handling chapter by chapter summaries for such for-pay book novels in general. If you would like to add your input to the discussion, it would be more than welcome. Thanks. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:53, 22 October 2015 (EDT)
- I saw it, thanks. Been thinking about and researching the situation since you wrote it in fact. (Admin (talk) 17:07, 22 October 2015 (EDT))
Animated Gifs and 9thwonders.com
It was asked by Sandubadear at Talk:Hachiro Otomo about making a gif of Hachiro materializing Katana Girl. Only after I posted some screenshots did I then find out on my user talk page that an animated gif was what was wanted. I'm not comfortable doing the requested animated gif anywhere. However, as the revised 9thwonders.com site contains some animated gifs of some abilities like Tommy's shown there in what appears to be official tumblr blogs, I'm contacting you as I think you might want to develop some policy regarding this (whether it is allowed for documentation purpose on this wiki and/or elsewhere). And if it is allowed, then perhaps someone else can help Sandubadear.--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:39, 8 November 2015 (EST)
- I would recommend bringing it up on the community portal talk page and getting input there. (Admin (talk) 14:11, 9 November 2015 (EST))
- Ok, thanks... and I see now that we do still have a category for animations so I think I may have answered at least part of my own question.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:57, 9 November 2015 (EST)
- I've started a related discussion at Heroes Wiki talk:Community Portal#Animated Gifs and 9thwonders.com, and I've fixed the anchor for the screenshots in my above comment.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:24, 9 November 2015 (EST)

Spam again
Hi Admin,
It seems that one spammer has survived. I can't block him as I do not have admin rights on this wiki. Thank you. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 15:08, 7 January 2016 (EST)
Upload error on the French wiki
Hi Admin,
I have some issues when I try to upload images for the French wiki. I have this error message like this wiki screenshot:
Unable to create folder "xxx". I think that the wiki image directory is write-protected for the Heroeswiki group. Can you please fix the issue. Thank you very much. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 17:16, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
- Should be fixed now. Thanks for letting me know. (Admin (talk) 23:23, 25 January 2018 (UTC))
- It works! Thank you very much. --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 05:59, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Admin, I just have another long time issue with the images part of the central file database on the French wiki with the "https" web address. in most of the web browsers (like Mozilla Firefox or Opera for example), they are considered as unsecured elements (unlike the local ones) and are not downloaded by default on the page. In order to see them, I have to temporarily deactivate the protection on the web page, which automatically reactivates a few clicks later. That's annoying as I would not have to duplicate all the needed files on the local French wiki. Thanks for your input. Cheers! --LIMAFOX76 (talk) 09:01, 19 February 2018 (UTC)
