About
Born in Los Angeles, CA to Japanese-American parents, George was held in an interment camp as a child during World War II. While attending the University of California at Berkeley, George began his acting career as a voice actor, redubbing the monster movie classic Rodan into English.
George is most famous for his portrayal of Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the Starship Enterprise, on the original Star Trek series and in the first six films. However, he has over one hundred other film and television credits to his name over the years.
George is highly politically active. In 1973, he ran for a seat on the Los Angeles City Council. In October 2005, George revealed publicly that he is gay, and has gone on to champion a number of gay and lesbian causes, including extensive work with the Human Rights Campaign.
George lives in Los Angeles with his partner of nineteen years, Brad Altman.
