Barclay is the son of a frequently-unemployed carpenter with abusive and misogynistic tendencies. The influence of his father played an integral role in shaping his moral and ethical compass (see psychological profile). His mother left him at a young age and very little is known about her, although recent discoveries have prompted further research (see case file A1015).

Shortly after graduating high school Barclay joined the United States Army, excelling there as an infantryman and later Special Forces soldier. Isolated in normal society, Barclay found acceptance and friendship in the military, becoming the leader and emotional center of a six-man Special Forces squad that saw frequent deployment in Iraq and Pakistan.

Three years ago Barclay's ability manifested, allowing him to survive an explosion which claimed the lives of his five closest friends. Subsequent missions claimed the lives of more teammates, while Barclay himself continued to survive. This resilience brought him to the attention of the Company, which allowed us to take advantage of the suspicion against Barclay to arrange for a speedy discharge.

Following his discharge Barclay spent the next nine months escaping his depression by indulging in various self-destructive vices. After a confrontation with his father during Thanksgiving of 2007, Barclay attempted to take his life. Agents Noah Bennet and the Haitian were dispatched to retrieve Barclay. Following his capture Barclay was held in our Odessa facility for the next six months.

Barclay has recently been involved in Odessa's ongoing Booster Project. His non-destructive ability and previous compliance led analysts to believe he was a fitting choice. Unfortunately, in the four weeks he has been involved in the Project Barclay has become aggressive and combative, injuring eleven Odessa medical personnel and killing four. Director Gael Cruz recently ordered an execution of Barclay (see Proposal of Disposition #003117), however that order was rescinded by Founder 12.

The harsh and abusive childhood the subject endured left him with a deep-seated need to make up for the deficiencies of his father, instilling in the subject a strong sense of chivalry, a rigid moral compass, and a deeply controlled but violent when provoked temper. The years the subject spent in the military further honed his mental discipline and sense of duty and service before self. A powerful drive to protect those weaker than himself drives much of the subject's actions, and his self-sacrificing nature makes him easy to manipulate if the need to do so arises.

An interesting trait the subject possesses, perhaps a result of his extensive military experience, is a distinct need for an authority figure in his life to provide direction and guidance. This instinctive predilection towards obedience and following orders, in conjunction with his military background and formidable special ability, has led to his recent cooperation with Director Thompson.
