This wiki is a XML full dump clone of "Heroes Wiki", the main wiki about the Heroes saga that has been shut down permanently since June 1, 2020. The purpose of this wiki is to keep online an exhaustive and accurate database about the franchise.

Can you setup the same system as wikipedia ? I mean, where subdomain = 2 letters long language code or something like that. Then in each page, at the bottom of the menu on the left, the link of translated languages for the topic.

I could set that up, yes. As I mentioned on Talk:Main Page I'm a little concerned about the articles becoming very inconsistent between languages and with individual languages falling into disrepair. The approach that Wikipedia takes essentially sets up multiple independent wikis and if the international community would like HeroesWiki to do this, too, then I'm happy to oblige. Chinese HeroesWiki

Heroes has gained great popularity in China, is it possible to add Chinese language pages on the website? It will surely boost your visit as well.

I believe it would be a very good move.

I think names and places should be kept in English even in a Chinese translation. Some words have generally accepted Chinese translations, such as New York, Peter,etc, then the English original words can be omitted or included in a blanket. (Teslla 15:04, 1 December 2007 (EST))

I'm willing to help out on a Chinese HeroesWiki. I've trained myself to be fairly comfortable with the wiki software, and have quite a bit of spare time. I can also speak and type Chinese quite well, so since there's a few Chinese speakers, maybe we should get one started. Radicell 06:37, 5 November 2008 (EST)

The AltaVista does an okay job of translating HeroesWiki into Chinese, however there are ambiguities (for example it tends to translate some character names into well-known Chinese variations of the names, and the episode titles get literal meanings like "Dead from Light" or "Hit or Run" (Fight or Flight). However, for the most part, it does quite a good job of translating and I feel that we can get a Chinese HeroesWiki started. The font will need to be bigger; Chinese text looks bad and small and hard to read at the current font size. Also, I'm assuming characters, city names, and cast/crew names will stay in English, but Episode, Webisode, GN, and Ability titles will be translated into Chinese. But what about episode titles like "Hiros" or "Eris Quod Sum"? Certain abilities too are hard to translate, such as "disintegration touch". There are still questions unsolved, but I have taken the current list of abilities and got their Chinese counterparts, so there's a start. By the way, Admin, if a new languaged HeroesWiki is started, does it start with absolutely nothing at all, or do we get a Main Page, templates, etc. to work with?   • Since Admin appears busy, I'll try and add some points of advice. Normally, Admin only adds a new language to the Wiki if there's enough people willing to do the translation work (normally about three or more, and so far I see only Radicell and Teslla having posted as being interested [and Teslla long ago]). It is not an easy task, as there are loads of articles to be translated. Image and audio files are shared between wiki language versions, so you don't have to copy them, but everything else needs copying and translating including templates (though the template code is in English, the namespace and names for the templates can be in the translated language).

    If you check the history of other sites such as the Spanish site, you'll note that Admin normally ports over the main page to get things started, but not much else so that you don't have to do a lot of renaming. After setting it up, you'll need to consult with Admin on the server options for your version of the site, as certain features such as double-dashes becoming a hyphen and collapsible tables are not enabled by default. Also, in your case, I'm not sure how familiar Admin is with Chinese characters, so it may be difficult for him to set up the namespaces without some help.

    Once you get your version set up, if there are names you can't translate from English directly, you can do the best you can to translate them or leave them as English. That is up to you to decide. Changing a font to make characters look bigger can be done in most browsers... I don't think we'll need the two hyphen thing since Chinese language rarely uses hyphens, and neither the collapsible tables one (the Wikipedia way of sorting out navbars, I presume. Are they even here on the English site?) Can you tell me what a namespace is, since I am not too familiar with that. I can probably touch bases with the local-Chinese Heroes fans community and ask them to help out, if things are going too slow. Also, if a new language is set up, we have to rename the wiki software itself, don't we? Things like the "Special pages" titles and the "Save page", "Show preview", "Show changes" buttons on the edit page, will need to be translated, right?       • Assuming Admin makes you an administrator for your version of the site, you can set many of the server messages using articles in the MediaWiki namespace. A namespace is a section of the site that is separated for searching, and most namespaces are indicated by having all articles in the format "<namespace name>:<article name>". The only exception to that is the "Main" namespace, for which the namespace name is blanked. For this article we are talking on, the namespace name/namespace is "Heroes Wiki talk" and the article name is "Languages". If you click on the "Search" button and scroll down to the bottom of the page, you can see "Heroes Wiki talk" and the rest of the namespaces that Admin has set up for the version of the Wiki you are on.--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:48, 9 November 2008 (EST)
        • Okay, so it's like "Image:xxx" or "User Page:xxx" or "Image talk:xxx", am I right? Does it include "Episode:xxx" or "Webisode:xxx"? Just clarifying. And ChrisYu357, you live in Hong Kong, so you'd be using (and typing) Traditional Chinese, right?           • "Image" is an example of a namespace. So is "User" (not "User Page"). So is "Image talk". Admin added "Episode" and "Webisode" (and some others) to be namespaces of their own. If you go to a place like Wikipedia or Lostpedia or Memory Alpha, they won't have all the same namespaces we have. "Help", "Image", "User", and "Template" are some pretty basic ones that most (if not all) wikis have. If you're still unsure of what the namespace or pagename for a particular page is, you can go to the page and type {{NAMESPACE}} or {{PAGENAME}} on the page, and then preview (don't save) to see what shows up. Dutch HeroesWiki?

Is anyone working on a Dutch HeroesWiki? I'd like to volunteer. I want to make note though, that Heroes isn't yet airing on any Dutch TV channels. It will start airing in Belgium this year but we will not be able to receive that channel. We can however receive British BBC2 and German RTL which will both be broadcasting Heroes in 2007. If it will be picked up in the Netherlands it will probably be broadcasted on one of the Dutch RTL channels since they have a broadcasting agreement with Universal for any of their productions. --Julesvanlaar 08:36, 24 February 2007

I translated a few articles, but I'm not sure what the guidelines are: do we translate all the english articles completely, or do we only post the article as far as things have been aired on tv (in my case on Dutch television)? Martijnvs 13:08, 13th July 2007 (GMT))

  • That's really up to you guys on the Dutch Heroes Wiki. If you want it to follow the series as it's airing over there then you can just translate the articles/sections that correspond to episodes that have aired over there. If you want it to be a complete version of Heroes Wiki translated into Dutch, then you can translate all of the articles and information. It probably wouldn't hurt to translate everything and then later on if you want to limit the content to only episodes that have aired over there you could always comment out anything that hasn't aired yet (which will make it easier for you to put it back quickly once the episode airs). Well, I took some time to get articles started for all season 1 episodes and character, albeit wit very basic information. I'm not too sure the Dutch wiki get's a lot of visitors. It's not only the translation that takes work, but also making all templates and stuff. I copied a lot from the English wiki for the articles I already made, but no doubt things need improvement.
So, if there are more users who want to contribute, please do! We're runnign behind on complete articles, broadcasts are already up to three quarters of season one I believe.--Martijnvs 05:32, 22 September 2007 (EDT)

Portuguese HeroesWiki?

If anyone is working on a Brazilian Portuguese HeroesWiki, I'd like to volunteer. Even though Heroes is not yet airing on any Brazilian's TV Channels, it looks like Record TV has interest in starting airing it still in 2007. In fact, Heroes Brazilian fans' community has grown very fast and I'm sure we have people enough interested to help to create a Portuguese version of HeroesWiki.     • If you're asking about an administrator for the Portuguese site then once it becomes active I'll setup an administrator there. There's not much that actually requires an administrator since everyone can edit the articles themselves so any mistakes can be fixed by anyone.         • Oh, I understand now. To create a new article just add the name of the article you want to create to the URL. If there's no article already then it will let you create one. You can also create an article by creating a link like [[Somepage]] and then clicking on the link to create the article named "Somepage". (Admin 21:34, 27 February 2007 (EST))

            • It's no bother. :) So your example there is because I copied over some of the templates from the English site so it kept the English name. So all you have to do is go to that Template page on the Portuguese site and use the Move option at the top to move it to a new Portuguese name. Then you can go back and change any references to that template over to the Portuguese name and it'll be correct. (Admin 21:47, 27 February 2007 (EST))

In other languages/Google translations

Can the alternate languages be near or above the Google translations (or Google translations as part of the alternate languages box?), maybe then they would be updated once in a while. Visitors may only see the Google translations and think there is nothing else. -Lөvөl 15:40, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

  • I want to do that, but the "navigation" and "google translations" boxes both use a single mechanism that displays one after the other whereas the "in other languages" links use a separate mechanism. So getting the "in other languages" to appear earlier on isn't exactly straight-forward unless I add it beneath "google translations" which pushes the rest of the boxes down. I'll give it some thought. Perhaps simply static links to the main page of each localized wiki in a box under the navigation box so people see them before the google links... or perhaps we could put something on the main page that would draw people to the localized ones. Certainly Mexican and Iberian Spanish are quite different in so many ways, but of course we can start the effort to start translating documents, with their respective annotations for both Spanish variations. The only thing is that I'm not quite sure who to ask to create the spanish subdomain to start.

    • Hi, Jurrabi. I'm not exactly sure how to handle the differences between the versions of Spanish. We have the Spanish one at, but I believe it was started by people from Mexico. Is there a huge difference aside from things like in Spain I think using second-person plural for verbs is more common?   • Hello everyone, I am fluent in both Spanish and English, and would love to cooperate in the creation of the Spanish version of Heroes Wiki. In fact I have already started. I translated both the Character pages of Claire and Sandra Bennet. I am somewhat familiar with HTML and stuff like that, so I find it easy to know what exactly am I doing. I see very little updates on the page, so I would like to see more of you live up to your comments and start translating and updating the pages. My username is MeliPetrelli, and I would like to be in touch with whoever is the Administrator for the Spanish site. I think that we should just keep the Spanish in as universal as possible, I am originally from Venezuela, but I live in the US, I think there are a lot of different versions o"Spanish out there" does anyone know what is the original version of spanish that the show is captioned/voiced over in? maybe we should stick to that one, unless there are various? I mean the original one used by NBC, like the one that you would be able to hear/read on the original DVD of Season one. Also, I don't know if the episodes that are being transmitted in other Spanish speaking countries of the world are up to date with the ones being transmitted in the US. I don't think that keeping the site up to date with the US would be considered being a "spoiler" because they could be able to watch the latest episode online anyways at, right? So I don't know, any suggestions? does anyone agree with me? Also, a question for the Administrator, how can I translate the Black Bold Text on the "Character's Box"?     • Hi, MeliPetrelli. I'm the only administrator over on the Spanish version at the moment, but once a localized version has more activity I ask someone there who's contributed significantly over time if they're interested in being an administrator. Basically the way each of the localized wikis works is that the community there decides exactly how they want to organize the information. So the people contributing early on (like you) have a great deal of say in exactly how things get done ranging from particular variations in language to how to deal with spoiler information. So the information there can either follow the US airings or the local airings (or even both which is what they're doing on the German version I do believe). As for the character box, if you edit any page at the bottom you'll see a list of templates in use on that page. The character box is Plantilla:Character_box so you can edit it (or rename it into Spanish) here. (Admin 18:25, 26 October 2007 (EDT))
      • Thank you Admin I already did the changes on the Character_box :)... and I personally think the best way to deal with the spoiler information is to follow the US airings and place a "BEWARE: SPOLIERS ALL OVER" sort of warning on the main page, because there are a lot of different Spanish Speaking countries, and I am sure they will not all have the same air dates. Something else, what is the diffrence between the Character Box and the Infobox cast ??? I only edited the Character box, should I edit the Infobox, also ???(MeliPetrelli 04:1, 28 October 2007 (EDT))
        • Template:Infobox cast is for articles on members of the cast (like Milo Ventimiglia, Hayden Panettiere, etc.) There's also Template:Infobox crew for members of the crew like writers, directors, etc. (like Tim Kring, Andrew Chambliss, etc) whereas Template:Character box is for articles on actual characters within Heroes (like Peter Petrelli, Claire Bennet, etc.) (Admin 10:37, 28 October 2007 (EDT))
          • Oh ok, got it thanks ! I have a question/request though. If it's not too much trouble. Would it be too much to ask, if you could create like a to-do list for the Spanish version (it's ok if you do it in English), NOT like a 'current episode update to-do' but a to-do list of the whole portal, like to help us get started the right way. I just think if there's like certain chronological order to follow, we should know, like create this first, then this, etc... otherwise there will be like some pages here, some there and nothing completed, you know what I mean? Also, should I translate EVERYTHING? or should I translate only what the person browsing the pages will see. What I mean is, for example, should I leave it like Episode:The Line and add the | and then the Spanish version of it: Episode:The Line|Episodio: La linea, or should I just do it completely in Spanish? I think I should just leave all codes and stuff in English and what the browser sees in Spanish, because is easier to just copy and paste the pages from the English version into the Spanish version, and then just translate, but If I have to create everything from scratch in Spanish is more complicated.             • I'll see if I can come up with a basic list of to-do suggestions. First thing that should be worked on is getting all the character/cast/episode/graphic novel articles that are included in the index near the bottom of the es:Main Page created and translated into Spanish. That task alone will be a lot of work, but it's one of the most important since once you have a lot of Spanish content the wiki will generally attract more Spanish-speaking visitors. For the episode names for instance what happens a lot of times is the articles get renamed into the name of the episode as it aired in countries that speak the language natively (sometimes the name of the episode changes pretty drastically between countries). For now I'd say it makes sense to leave the templates in English to make them easier to just copy and paste over, but at some point someone there may go ahead and create a new template completely in Spanish and then you wouldn't have to worry. The most important piece is just getting the articles copied over and translated into Spanish. Spanish articles = more readers = more contributors = more help with the site! :) (Admin 10:49, 31 October 2007 (EDT))

    • Sorry about that. It's enabled now. Remember, if an image is already here on the English site you don't have to re-upload it there. When you create an image link it will look for the image at first and if it doesn't find it there it will check here.     • Looks like you have already ported the main template (Template:Languagebar). There's also an 'In other languages:' section that appears on the main page above the sitenotice and below the credits. Ability vs. Power

  • I noticed that Powers was changed to abilities, and would like to know why, and how does that affect everything, since I need to translate everything to spanish. I don't know if all the templates, links and pages that involved Powers are now Abilities, 'cuz this is going to be confusing for the translations. Problem with Templates

  • Ok, so I am trying to edit the Spanish Current Events page (Actualidad), and I got ti so that it shows the Wanted Pages with this template {{Special:Wantedpages/20}}. But there is this one other thing, i don't know if it's a template I think it has to do with the variables, but maybe it has to be ACTIVATED by the Admin for it to work. An example of what I'm talking about is this: {{#dpl:|uses=Template:rename|ordermethod=lastedit|addeditdate=true|userdateformat=F j, G:i --}} I want to make a similar one to show 20 articles that need to be translated into Spanish.     • To add the new current events stuff, you have to wait for Admin to decide whether or not to update the other domains with the dpl extension for that to work. He's said that he's planning to leave it in for the english site, so it's likely just a matter of time. I expect he'll get some time for winter vacation, so it could be sooner than later (but I'm just guessing).--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:47, 14 December 2007 (EST)

          • What do you mean about adding "in other languages?" That gets added automatically when you add an interwiki link at the bottom of an article linking the article to its counterpart on one of the other translated wikis. As for privileges, check out this article. You are absolutely welcome and encourage to nominate people from the wiki who are a big help and from time to time as the wiki grows if the user is still active often they may become an administrator, too.             • Just in case you need further clarification, there's only one Admin; he's the only one with access to the machine so he's the only person who has file access to add extensions and the such, and the only person who can make other users into administrators. The article he mentions explains most of the other things you can do as an administrator (which is not the same thing as being Admin). I'm a great fan of Heroes and also an Admin of Lostpedia - FR (Lost's Wiki in french version). So I have some skills with wiki.
I'm interested in creating the french version of Heroeswiki and, why not, helping other french people who wants to contribute.

  • Hi, Desperate July. There is a French version of Heroes Wiki setup at but it has not been maintained too well so far. If you're interested in working on it and getting it up to date that'd be great. No one is in charge of it yet, but I'm keeping an eye out for hardworking editors who spend a lot of time working on it and who would like to be an administrator over there. Turkish Version

Swedish Version

Hi, I'm interesting in contributing to a Swedish translation of the HeroesWiki. I can't do it alone though, but if anyone else is interested, I'm up for it. Finnish Version

I would like to translate a Finnish version of Heroes Wiki. The show recently started airing and was well received, so there might be request for this! language switching system

Hi all !
As I'm pretty recent in editing Heroes Wiki (but not wiki in general), I may say things that has already been said or that are stupid - and I may make many English mistakes, too. So please correct me if I'm wrong :)
I'm pretty much interested in translating this fully loaded and really well done wiki into its French version, and I'd like to make a suggestion about the way we switch of language. For now on, for each language there's a different wiki with its own subdomain. That's pretty good, but it makes me feel like it's another wiki each time, and that that increases the work to do. A rapid look at the French version confirmed this impression, and I thought of this: if instead of having different wikies, we had only one but with each page in every language, it could make the work easier.
For example: I'm on the English version, and I want to see if the page I'm reading exist in French, so I choose "French" in the combo box above the page (I first thought of placing the languages with the article/edit/history/... buttons but seeing how many languages there could be, that would make the line very long), and the page's content switch to its French version. Therefore, whenever a page is created in one language, it's created in every languages, and the translaters just would have to switch languages to complete "their" language. No more need to keep track of the editing in the English version, no more wikies growing appart.
On a more technical side, I'm aware that implies huge modifications to the core wiki system, I'm not even able to do it myself, but I'm pretty sure it would make the whole thing easier and more efficient. To this point, I see only two problems to that system, but not little ones:
- about the page's name: "company founder's" for example becomes "fondateurs de la compagnie" in French, so when doing a link the name must be the same even if it's in another language. Hum I don't think I'm very clear here, I hope you'll understand what I mean.
- I doubt that the others wikies could be merged into this system, so we would have to copy what has already be done into the new system, and my little fingers tells me that implies another huge amount of work.
So, any comments about the idea ? What do our translators think of that ? What does our admins think of the work it implies ? Is it even technically possible, or am I just dreaming ? --Jhon 14:18, 7 December 2007 (EST)

  • If you don't already know, there is already a French wiki here. I think I understand what you are asking for, but due to the way articles are stored, it's technically possible but difficult to implement. It would probably involve a lot of code changing inside the wiki, and it would mean the other language wikis already in progress would need to be reordered. The wiki itself assigns numbers to each article as it is created. Theoretically, these numbers could be used to synchronize the creation of new articles in new wikis by forcing creators of new articles in the other language wiki to specify which english language article they are replicating, but for the existing other language wikis, they do not match, so they would need to be renumbered to make something like that work. What might be feasible, however, is to create a listing like Special:Recentchanges, but restricted to only list new article creation. Then, you could check against the list of new articles to see if there are any you are missing. That might also take some coding, but would be easier to implement.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:50, 7 December 2007 (EST)

      • Well, for now perhaps you can convince the admin of the French wiki to put a link to our Special:Newpages on the MediaWiki:Sidebar. That's a good start of what to check. Croatian version of

Hello people. First at all I must apologize for my bad English but you will understand me. I think that there is no problem if I mix tenses and another grammar stuff. It is important to be able establish some kind of communication where we can understand each other. :) Uh, O.K. what I want. I am interested is there any possibility for establishing Croatian version of I think it would be great because Heroes is new series on Croatian TV and here is a lot of fans already. It would be fantastic if fans from Croatia, i.e. people who speak/read Croatian languages could have their own version of, and not only for the Croats but even for Slovenes, Montenegrins, Serbs and Bosniaks, because they can understand Croatian, because our languages are similar.   • Hi, Balkanko. I think it could be a good idea, too. Each translated version of Heroes Wiki is a lot of work to maintain and requires a group of people, so what I like to do is wait for a few people who will work on it to each add their support for it. If you know of a few people who can translate between English and Croatian that are interested in working on a wiki, send them to this page and have them add their support for it. Welsh Wiki?

I speak Welsh fluently and I think it would be cool to have a Welsh Heroes wiki. Welsh isn't only spoken in Wales, it's spoken in Patagonia, a place in South America too! I know lots of Welsh-speaking Heroes fans who would I'm sure would contribute to the wiki. I'm a huge Heroes fan and it would be a honour to contribute to this site! Greek Wiki?

I am a huge fan of Heroes, and I watch it over the Internet. It started in Greece and Cyprus, and I am willing to start a Greek wiki for Heroes =) I speak fluent Greek (native language), fluent English and some French. I am not confident with Wiki editing though, so I would like if I got a skilled monitor with me, so I can send him/her my parts and he/she can edit it? I am also willing to learn some basics though!
