Moving quotes

  • Did you discuss this change first since it significantly affects many articles? (Admin 10:56, 26 January 2009 (EST))
    • Didn't see it as a significant effect, just trying to clean things up some...some of the character pages are really long now, and alot of the quotes are redundant between the few that are listed on the character page and the few that are listed on the memorable quotes page. And the memorable quotes page itself, is pretty large and bulky. I thought branching the quotes off of each character page would be a pretty simple change for the better, and didn't expect anyone to see it as problematic. Trying to be consistent with how we do the images for characters. Do you want me to stop and revert? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/26/2009 10:59 (EST)
      • I reverted the changes already but left the quotes pages for now until we see how everyone would like to proceed. I agree there are some issues with the quotes. Criteria for inclusion are so subjective that it becomes easy for them to get out of control. I'd recommend posting something on the community portal talk page so we can see what people think about different solutions (including any naming convention for separate quote articles). (Admin 11:03, 26 January 2009 (EST))
        • OK, I started the discussion there. Add anything you see as pertinent. I hope I described my idea clearly enough. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/26/2009 11:14 (EST)

FYI

Just so you know - I just uploaded pics of the AF characters ;) --Pierre 10:52, 27 January 2009 (EST)

SB Commercial article

Are you planning to start the Promotional Event article for the Super Bowl commercial? I noticed you had uploaded most of the relevant images.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:29, 2 February 2009 (EST)

  • I put up an entry of it here List of references to Heroes...it seemed the best fit for it, but if you think it should have it's own article like you say above, I think that would be a better idea. Take a look at what I've already done, and let me know what you think. If you want to do a full-page article, I don't have a problem with that. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 02/2/2009 12:37 (EST)
    • Well, it was kind of a big promotional event, considering the cost... I was thinking of calling it Super Bowl XLIII commercials and listing all of the Heroes commercials. What do you think?--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:22, 2 February 2009 (EST)
      • I agree with you, Miami. It's not like the Super Bowl was referencing Heroes, but rather Heroes was promoting itself through commercials that aired during the Super Bowl. I think it should be its own article, though I would call it "Super Bowl XLIII commercials" (lowercase c). :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:27, 2 February 2009 (EST)
        • Cool by me. I have the "football game" clip loaded on my home computer and can scarf additional pics if you find any omitted that you think need to be included in the article gallery.--HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 02/2/2009 13:41 (EST)
          • Good idea on the lowercase c (just fixed above comment). I guess I'll start work on a page. Feel free to join in.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:14, 2 February 2009 (EST)
          • Thanks for the help. The article's looking good now, though it could probably use at least a couple screenshot of the other two commercials. Can you upload some HD screenshots of them or should I just grab some screenshots off YouTube?--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:31, 2 February 2009 (EST)
            • In my excitement to capture the Heroes football game, I only burned it to DVD last night. I saw the other heroes clips, but didn't capture them. You might check Hulu too, it might have a higher-res version of them than Youtube. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 02/2/2009 19:42 (EST)

Images

Thanks for uploading new images. On some of them, you put templates that aren't needed, like the "photographs" template on Image:Sylar riding a bigwheel.jpg, or the business template on Image:Samson Gray's Taxidermy Business.jpg. When you get a chance, could you go back through and make sure there aren't any errant templates on those images? Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:56, 3 February 2009 (EST)

My subpage

Thank you for going through the trouble of updating my subpage with magazine pictures. Even though I was trying to avoid using those, I think I've changed my mind after seeing how good it looks. Much appreciated.--Citizen 06:59, 8 February 2009 (EST)

Wow

You must have a Buddha patience to get, tweak and upload all those images. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 12:46, 25 February 2009 (EST)

  • Naw, the hardpart now is building the image-map template for them...using the groupoftwelve as a guide...Several of the pics are really bad resolution though...hope to find cleaner shots later for some of them. At least we will have something to work from and to update. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 02/25/2009 12:48 (EST)

Unaired images

Where are you getting your recent unaired images from? If they're from NBC.com, then they are not screenshots, but promotional images. But you should probably specify where they're coming from. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:54, 27 February 2009 (EST)

  • I got the recent additional Flight 195 occupants from Beaman's blog. They are actually in the plane, there just aren't any close face-shots of them in the episode that they are distinguishable like in the scenes found on Beaman's blog which they didn't air. Fundamentally, what is the difference between a promo-image and an unaired image? I would think a promo image is a picture related to heroes, but outside of the canon events'...whereas an unaired image is a picture taken in related to canon events that simple was cut and wasn't aired. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 02/27/2009 11:18 (EST)
    • You're right, if it's from Beeman's blog, it's not a promotional image. Promo images are the ones that are released on NBC.com. You're also right that they are unaired images. Just write on the image page that they are from Beeman's blog, then. Put a link if you can. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:38, 27 February 2009 (EST)

300 x 200 images

Thanks for uploading those images for the prophecy article. I know it can be a pain to have a few different versions of the same images...but it really keeps the site standardized and looking uniform. They look terrific. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:27, 28 February 2009 (EST)

Thanks

Wow, you did a great job with my gallery. I was actually doing it in order of character appearances in the graphic novels, but this looks much better. I appreciate it a lot.--Citizen 13:43, 3 April 2009 (EDT)

Shore/Shaw

I believe it's Shaw, not Shore. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:41, 13 April 2009 (EDT)

  • Definitely Shaw, according to all spoilers --Altes 01:50, 15 April 2009 (EDT)

Hey

Can I just say, your speech on XXX's abilities made the most sense I think I've ever heard on this wiki, re-name and get over with it :) Thanks --IronyUTC CH 16:39, 21 April 2009 (EDT)

Webisode video link

For future reference, the webisode video links go in a separate parameter called "vid" in the webisode sidebar. Putting them in the title breaks coding that is used for the image links.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:27, 21 April 2009 (EDT)

New consensus checks for old abilities

I think it was discussed that we shouldn't add new consensus checks to the old abilities unless there is new information about them, and that having a new process doesn't count as new information. Did I miss something???--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:30, 22 April 2009 (EDT)

  • I may have missed something to. My point in updating those handful of abilities, was to try to get the ones that don't have names addressed and hopefully finalized. It seems that as the show continues to grow, we can't make our minds up, and we've gotten into a habit of just defaulting to a no-name, and then get stuck there. I would just like to promote the discussion towards us getting names for what we can name. IMO no-name, means that the consensus process didn't really get met...and still needs to be finalized. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/22/2009 14:24 (EST)
    • For the abilities that didn't yield a name, it had already been decided that there is no consensus... I thought it was mentioned on the community portal talk, but it appears the thread I was thinking of was only on Ryan's talk page. I'll go close down those checks now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:31, 22 April 2009 (EDT)
      • I am not sure where the best place is to discuss it, but I think it would be good if there was a way to involve a large segment of the membership to contribute their perspective about the present 'process' we seemed to have evolved into where "no name" is the acceptible default name. IMO, this is a poor precidence to get ourselves into, and to continue to perpetuate. I can understand that in some small and isolated situations, possibly for a short period of time, we might want to begin with no-name for an ability, but I think it is a poor path to take to make this become the defacto-default name for any lengthy amount of time when a selection of viable names could be chosen. I'm not really trying to push back against the consensus system itself, as much as the default process that is allowing no-names to be the default that never dies and goes away. I think even if we went so far as to say that the admin-members got together amongst themselves and chose a reasonable name for any no-name abilities, that would be a better resolution than retaining no-names as the default like we do now. If you examine any comic book heroes, tv heroes, movie heroes, whatever....they all have established names. We should follow those precidences, and not settle for no-names. I'm not sure exactly what the best way may be to handle this, and that is why I think a broad-discussion of this particular concern by the membership is important and worthy of considering. Every crayon in the box has it's own unique name...so should the abilities of heroes. The only time we should append the ability-users name as the ability, is when we have no information about the ability to draw a reasonable name. Alejandro's ability is a great example. The guys been dead for over a year, and his ability should have a real, tangible name by now. We need to figure out a way to prevent this no-name defaulting, as well as the best way determine the most accurate names possible. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/22/2009 14:43 (EST)
        • Although I agree with you, HDS, that we should be giving general names wherever possible, some people do think that no-name is the best name, and that to do otherwise would be to speculate too much. The current system may not be the best, but it is a compromise that can go both ways. At least, that's the way I see it. Discussion on altering the process of how we go about choosing names belongs on Help talk:Naming conventions and/or the Heroes Wiki talk:Community Portal, since it applies to the wiki as a whole.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:54, 22 April 2009 (EDT)
          • Thanks...good suggestions. I just started a discussion here Help talk:Naming conventions to talk about the present process of the no-name default, and how we might improve it, or at least not make it continue to be a perpetual defaulted name. I feel that alot of members are unhappy with the retention of noname as the default, and hope that we can get some good ideas and find a better way to deal with this issue. I think the overall consensus process itself is working out well, we just need to address the noname default issue. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/22/2009 15:20 (EST)

sitewide changes

Hey, HDS. When making a change that will effect the entire site (like removing Image:blankperson.jpg, breaking it into two images, and removing noimage from crew pages), it's best to discuss that kind of change before just going ahead and doing it. Thanks so much! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:00, 22 April 2009 (EDT)

Opposing names

In a consensus check, please only oppose invalid names. A name like "David's ability" or "Tom's ability" is never invalid since it accurately describes the ability. It may not be the best name, but we do not oppose names that are of lesser quality, only names that are invalid for some reason. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:59, 24 April 2009 (EDT)

  • In the case of "David's ability" specifically, it is invalid because the writer specifically said the ability should he called "Super rabies".--HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 04/27/2009 08:30 (EST)

Cockney Heroes Competition Results

Hi there HiroDynoSlayer, After much deliberation we (the Cockney Heroes team) would like to say you were a runner up. Your character will have a have a cameo and your ability will be in the show. --posted by Laughingdevilboy Talk 06:48, 4 May 2009 (EDT)

Okay, mate.

I don't think we need image categories for the rather minor people you created image categories for. Claude is understandable, I guess, since he's recurred throughout the three seasons, but I don't think an image cat for Sparrow is needed. --Radicell 19:54, 19 May 2009 (EDT)

  • It only makes finding pictures of re-occuring characters easier to find; and Sparrow appears to finally be here for good. There are more pictures of Claude than of Tracy, Maya, Monica, Alejandro, Simone; which all have img-cats. Has there ever been a rule or procedure discussed saying what the criteria is for creating an image cat for re-occuring or popular characters? What's the harm in creating img-cats for some of the more popular or frequent characters? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 05/19/2009 21:11 (EST)

Cockney Heroes Competition Two

As you may know, a group of Heroes-Wiki-Users are writing a fan fiction called. We are happy to announce a second Cockney Heroes competition. In this competition you will have to create a character and an ability. If you have not been reading Cockney Heroes, a portal of all of the episodes are here and there is a series similar to the graphic novels for Cockney Heroes, here. We would like you to try out as we think that you would be a great inspiration for the team :) Thank You, we hope very much that you will enter If you need to know anything see here, we will try to respond as soon as possible. --IronyUTC CH 16:48, 29 June 2009 (EDT)

Help?

Hey HiroDynoSlayer, just wanted to know if you could help me with something. Me and my bro have created a new series and would like to know how to put a "navbar" at the bottom of pages, like characters and abilities. Please help me coz I have no idea how to do it. :) Agent Jordan/AJ

  • You'll need to build a template. One that I made sometime ago, that we use on the episode and GN image pages that you might be able to use as a pattern, is this one: Template:Imagenav. Make a copy of it to your userspace, and then modify it to fit the format you are wanting. Since you are going to use it for a user-area series, you can just reference it from your userpage, and not have to move it into the main namespace. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 07/17/2009 14:02 (EST)
