==Episode Checklist== |

My computer (and probably a few others') do not support .ogg format. Would you mind reuploading . Shoyru1177 18:51, 21 June 2008 (EDT) |
*Is it Kosher for newbies to add items to the checklist or is there a specific protocol for what can be added to the checklist? What has to happen before we can put an _X_ in an entry's blank? (NissanVersaDootDoot 23:08, 4 October 2007 (EDT)) |
* Unfortunately, .OGG is the only audio format supported by MediaWiki for uploads by default, in part because it's free and open source. Codecs like MP3 are actually proprietary and licensed and thus cost money.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 11:42, 22 June 2008 (EDT) |

** The checklists are there to provide a convenient reference per episode to make sure that everything that needs to be updated gets updated. For each new episode there are a ton of things that need to be be updated like per-character episode summaries, article of the week info, the sections in the episode article itself, etc. This way one can glance over it quickly and see what's left to be done. Anything significant in an episode that will require an article can generally be added to the checklist. So if there's something important in a given episode, you want to make sure that it gets updated/created, and it fits into one of the sections already on the checklist you can add it. Marking it with an X is done when the task is taken care of (e.g. Claire is marked off once her episode summary is written and added to Claire). (Admin 23:20, 4 October 2007 (EDT)) |
** And it's totally kosher for anybody to add anything that needs to be done to the checklist.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 23:39, 4 October 2007 (EDT) |

* Not sure if you noticed, but the most recent standardized version of Micah's file you uploaded is 158k. Think that could get knocked down to closer to 50k? That's about the size of the ones I uploaded and they still look good to me at 50k. (Admin 00:27, 11 October 2007 (EDT)) |
** Yeah, lately my images are coming out huge. I musta knocked the quality up on my jpg compression or something. In any case, as long as all the ones you uploaded are the same size (as each other, not necessarily 450x350), we can just delete that Micah ... it's a duplicate of the one you upped.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 00:31, 11 October 2007 (EDT) |

Why not allow the composite of the several framed-screen caps stay? Yes the clarity was a little less because of the merging, but it gives us ...ALL 12...of the twelve, as the picture is without the hand overprints. We could add all the frames individually to the gallery also, but having a single picture containing all the 12 is better. <small>--HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 10/16/2007 18:29 (EST)</small> |

== Dawsons == |
Lucky you, I'll let you work on the Template:Dawson Tree :) The way I understand it, Nana and Paulette are either sisters or sisters-in-law. Nana's son is MIA, but he and Monica's mother had two children, Monica and Damon. That would make DL and Monica's mom first cousins. Micah and Monica/Damon would be second cousins. Nana is Micah's great-aunt. That seems right to me, but it's entirely possible that I'm way off. (Incidentally, I also think we should have an article about Monica's mom.) -- 01:06, 17 October 2007 (EDT) |
* Hmm. For now, we have no real in-world confirmation of a lot of the relationships. It's probably best to just stick to the immediate Dawsons (Nana, Mom and Pop Dawson, and Monica and Damon) until we get an idea of how they're related to the Hawkinses. Then we can do one giant horking tree for everybody, which should be fun.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 01:13, 17 October 2007 (EDT) |

** I'm not a lawyer, but they're probably still running afoul of some copyright law enforcable over there. == Theory == |
Although I didn't put that note in there myself, "this has nothing to do with this theory" (assuming I'm looking at the right note in the history) is very relevant. Mr. and Mrs. Petrelli were founding members - what's the likelyness that their sons alter-ego was in on it with them? I doubt he was even born at that time.--Riddler 00:35, 2 November 2007 (EDT) |
* The theory says that Adam is Peter's alter-ego. The author meant like Jessica is Niki's. Adam being a founding member of the Company could, I suppose, be a point against (since the Company was founded 30 years ago and Peter is only 28), but it doesn't really speak to the theory at all.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 00:39, 2 November 2007 (EDT) |
** It's very much so a point against. They're refering to the alter ego like Jessica to Niki- one in the same person, same body, though not the same mind. If Adam is Peter, Peter wouldn't have been born yet, or just a baby, and would have been a founder, which makes not a lick of sense.--Riddler 00:40, 2 November 2007 (EDT) |
*** I get it now. Since it was the only evidence and the theory wasn't very well explained, it just seemed totally out of left field. I'll add it back, with a clearer explanation of how it applies.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 00:45, 2 November 2007 (EDT) |

**** I've never been a big fan of using that forum approach on a wiki. Blacking out sections of spoiler text on articles doesn't really feel appropriate here which is why we have separate spoiler articles in the first place. In the case of complete episode spoilers like on Spoiler talk:Powerless I like the hidden table approach that was taken; it looks much cleaner than having blacked out text. I haven't read the spoilers yet, but I'm assuming they're complete spoilers of the episode. (Admin 08:32, 10 November 2007 (EST)) |
***** I was thinking of this as more of an option for talk pages, where people might want to reply to a question with spoiler info, like this: Rosebud is a sled!--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 13:15, 10 November 2007 (EST) |
*****I agree with admin, think it detracts from the page. Cool idea though. It would look like the page was redacted by the FBI or something.--Mish 13:57, 10 November 2007 (EST) |
******I was thinking more of use in talk pages than on spoiler articles themselves. I just used it on Episode talk:Out of Time to answer a question whose answer was spoilery. That's what I had in mind.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 14:01, 10 November 2007 (EST) |
******* Spoilery answers shouldn't be on non spoiler talk pages though. Whenever I've had to answer a question on a regular talk page based on a spoiler I don't provide spoiler details. Plus I'm using a browser right now that shows the text even when it's hidden. So I would have seen that "Rosebud is his sled" spoiler without even doing anything. The best and safest way to address a spoilery question on a regular talk page is to either not include details or to provide a link to the spoiler article so they know what they're getting into. * Got my bot working. There's a great Perl framework for MediaWiki. It's going to make writing bots so easy. I'll finish it up later today if I get time. Just give me a list of all the repetitive tasks that need to be completed and I'll program it to make the changes. *** What is it exactly you wanted done with the Template categories? Are they being removed and replaced with nousercats for the other categories in the template or something? It may be something I can script if we need to edit all the templates. (Admin 03:13, 12 November 2007 (EST)) |
**** Hadn't thought of that, but that may be something better handled by humans, since I think there are instances where we want to add a cat to a userpage (like Fan Powers). No, I was just asking if we could remove :Category:Templates from templates which had other categories. When we started out, all the templates were in one cat. When I started subdividing them into smaller cats, I left them in the main cat, too, so :Category:Templates would list all the templates. Now, though, it's more than one page, so it's wrapping some of the subcats onto page 2, and the list on :Category:Templates is so long and messy that it's doing more harm than good. So I think it would be easier to find templates if they were listed in a subcat, but not in :Category:Templates. I think they should all pretty much have a subcat, so we could just remove :Category:Templates from all templates articles -- but if there's a way to make sure we're not removing the only category, that would be even better.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 03:18, 12 November 2007 (EST) |

*****We're also very lucky, in my opinion, that we don't really have a big "problem" with vandalism. Very few people have been blocked, and we don't have a lot of silly edits, or even edit wars, for that matter. I'm not really sure why this is, but I like to think that it's in part to our unofficial policy of being very tolerant. I was visiting some other wikis which will remain nameless, and it seems like were blocking people for very silly things (misinformation, repeated spelling mistakes)--in one case, I was really unable to figure out what the block was for, even after reviewing every one of the editor's contributions. I just wonder, how did you do it, you have your PC hooked up to your TV or some crazy thing like that? Well anyways, I was wondering, since you are at it, can you upload some of the beginning of the scene in Zulia, Venezuela, where it actually says "Zulia, Venezuela" on the screen? *Hi, I just posted a piece of Trivia that I thought fit within the spirit of what we're trying to capture. It was the most significant continuity error I've seen with dialog between episodes. I agree it's most likely a production error, but very noticeable and seems like solid trivia to me. Thoughts? |
** It actually happens all the time, though. They reshoot the scenes and words get changed here and there. Often, they'll rerecord the audio for the "previously on Heroes" section, too, to make things clearer. For example, in the episode were Matt finds out about Janice and Tom, the actual exchange had her thinking "oh my god, he knows". The next episode, it had "he knows about the affair". There doesn't seem to be anything particularly significant to the words that changed this time, so it's almost certainly the same thing. This really happens at least every other episode, and sometimes even more drastically.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 05:55, 13 November 2007 (EST) |

*****First, I want to thank Hardvice for hosting this party. :) Second, RPG is a redirect to role-playing games. I would like to do a search for a term that is three letters or less. For instance, doing a search for "Pam" returns no results, despite the fact that "Pam" is included in the text of quite a few pages, and is even part of the title of a page. -- 21:59, 15 November 2007 (EST) |

* A few things about case sensitivity: one, the first letter is always case insensitive. Not much help with multi-word titles, but it helps a bit. The article naming convention is for lower-case words except for proper nouns and explicit titles, which also helps a bit. Now, there are ways around case sensitivity in templates (you can check for matches with both upper- and lower-case examples, or you can force terms to be upper- or lower-case for logic using ucfirst and lcfirst, but I don't know of a way to get the same effect when searching, unfortunately.--Hardvice <small>(talk)</small> 22:03, 15 November 2007 (EST) |
