== Archiving Trouble ==

Hey Miami, I'm having some trouble with my talk page, and since I know you are very good with coding I thought to ask you. If you look at [[User talk:Leckie|my talk page]], I have a template (made today), <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki> is at the top, but there is a problem with the most recently added archives. Could you please help me, as I haven't a clue what's going on! Thanks :)--{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 15:27, 7 February 2010 (EST)
Hey. I know you set up the [[iStory]] pages, so I just wanted to give you a heads up about some changes I made to [[Anna]]'s page. I removed the excess links to 'iStory,' and I combined the chapter links with the Operation ones to go directly to the chapter on the Operation pages. If you prefer it look the old way (and, looking at it, I'm starting to think it might look better prior to my changes), just undo my edits (or, if it's too late by the time you see this, let me know and I'll manually undo them myself). I'll hold off changing any of the other iStory pages to match this until I hear which version you think looks better. Happy holidays! :) --[[User:Stevehim|Stevehim]] 07:43, 25 December 2008 (EST)
* Looks great to me. Happy holidays to you too! (Merry Christmas as well if you're celebrating it like me). :)--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 10:14, 25 December 2008 (EST)
* You can only have a few calls to [[Template:ArchiveLinks]] in <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki>. Adding more causes your page to reach a template limit, so you need to now use [[Template:ArchivePrelinks]] instead. The documentation should explain how to use it, but if you don't understand, please let me know and I'll try to elaborate.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 15:55, 7 February 2010 (EST)
* Also, I noticed that you had deleted some of your old signature files (i.e. User:Leckie/Signature 4), but they are still linked to from some talk pages. I fixed my page to remove the red links, but for the others I recommend you recreate the signature files as redirects to your current signature. Alternatively, you could search for what links to them and edit all your old comments to use your current signature, but that's a lot more work... If you don't understand what I mean, please let me know.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:48, 7 February 2010 (EST)
** Umm, I kinda made it worse :/ Can you help me? --{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 12:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)
** Never mind, [[User:Jenx222|Jenx222]] helped me and its sorted now. --{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 13:19, 8 February 2010 (EST)
*** Ok, FYI: You were using }} instead of |} to close your table in <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki>. Jenx222 fixed that for you. Looks like you figured the rest out yourself, though it seems you took out the no-wrap tags that the ArchivePrelinks template adds for you.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 13:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)

==Siren's song/Enhanced synesthesia==
== Just wanted to say ==
Hey, I have a brief question concerning Emma's ability name. A month ago, we started a consensus and narrowed it down to four names and then began a poll. Siren's song received the most votes, but I've been told that that isn't the deciding factor. However, since "Siren's song" was mentioned in a canon source by Samuel (and the Watcher called Emma a siren), doesn't that automatically win over all the descriptive level 5 names we came up with?

I'm sorry for potentially dragging you into a mindless debate but we're not sure where to go with this.--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 15:54, 9 February 2010 (EST)
Thanks for all the work on the pages I created, it is much appreciated. With yours and ryans help i will hopefully get better :) --[[User:Laughingdevilboy|laughingdevilboy]] 18:19, 28 December 2008 (EST)
* Right, since the name "Siren's song" was mentioned in the show as pertaining to Emma's ability, only another name mentioned in the show or one derived from such a name can be considered. Since the majority seemed to support 'siren's song' over 'enhanced synesthesia' (the only other canon-derived name I saw mentioned), I think it is okay to leave the name as 'siren's song' for now.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:28, 9 February 2010 (EST)

== iStory information ==
== Heroes Interactive question ==
hey, just wondering, considering you're the main person behind the updating of iStory information, why the iStory things can't go with the rest of character history? as far as i know, iStory is canon, and it would be better to have it put in the character history as opposedto in the evolutions section. if not, then shouldn't grapihc novls go in evolutions as well? Happy New Year! -- {{User:Tristan0709/Signature}} 03:54, 1 January 2009 (EST)
* Well, I agree with you about adding the iStory info. to the main part of the character histories, and have asked about making a separate iStory namespace like for the graphic novels, but I'm not sure if Admin has had time to consider the request. Until they get their own namespace, they should stay under the evolutions section and possibly even after it too. I would note that a point of contingency may be that though they both are part of [[Heroes Evolutions]], the graphic novels are straightforward but the iStory is not. I mean, in the iStory, there are sometimes multiple paths you can take and still achieve the same or similar result. Also, when Heroes Evolutions came about and the graphic novels were grouped in it, the correct thing to do would likely have been to move all the graphic novel content into evolutions, but I'm not sure anyone wanted to go through that amount of work or that such as change would be desired now. If you want to discuss this further, you should do so at [[Talk:iStory]] and/or [[Talk:Portal:Issues]].--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 05:11, 1 January 2009 (EST)

== Enhanced vs Super strength ==

Hi. Sorry to bother you, but the issue of whether or not to split the enhanced strength page has re-emerged with overwhelming force in favor of splitting it. Ryan has said that in order to split it, we need to contact those who objected and are still active, and see if their opinion has changed and/or if it ok with you to go ahead and split it. As you are one of the three people he specified contacting, I figured I would do so. I will refrain from presenting arguments here, but the current consensus check is [[Talk:Enhanced_strength#Poll|here]]. Thanks very much for weighing in on this. --[[User:Stevehim|Stevehim]] 23:46, 11 February 2010 (EST)
Hello, MiamiVolts. I noticed yesterday that NBC has a new [http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/iStory/ iStory announced] now that Friend or Foe has ended. Where is that announcement placed on the wiki?--[[User:Citizen|Citizen]] 10:05, 8 January 2009 (EST)

*Thought I'd give you a heads-up, latest iStory ''"The Private"'' is out. Not an iStory person myself, but it sounds alright. Apparently is centered around [[Rachel]]. -- {{User:Tristan0709/Signature}} 00:32, 14 January 2009 (EST)

***I'm planning on writing recaps for this one, and I have a question. Since we have the player's name, do we refer to Rachel as Rachel or as the player? If so, what about when writing about decisions the player makes?--[[User:Citizen|Citizen]] 22:05, 14 January 2009 (EST)
**** Go for it! :) I guess you could say at the beginning in a blurb that the player is choosing Rachel's actions for her. Just make sure it is clear in the synopsis as to when Rachel gets to make a decision. Did you see the recent movie ''Click''? There's a good analogy to that movie where sometimes what Rachel does will be automatic (instinct) and sometimes she will get to think and choose what to do.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 22:36, 14 January 2009 (EST)
*****Just finished recap and added a blurb at the end. Check it out and tell me if I'm iStory-worthy ;-).--[[User:Citizen|Citizen]] 23:18, 14 January 2009 (EST)
****** Not bad for a beginner. j/k ;) It's a good summary, and I just fixed some grammar, now I need to fix the format. The way I've been summarizing the iStory, I've been only including the optimal history and moving the rest to a subpage. If we want to change that, we need to go back and change all the character histories and summaries thus far (but I don't think that's necessary or a good idea). In this case, the roof is advantageous since in that case Rachel is above any gas and can shoot at any militia that comes her way.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:52, 14 January 2009 (EST)
*******I find it necessary to include all possible choices of a chapter unless they're advertised as having a large amount of endings, such as the finale of Friend or Foe. But if that's how it's been handled before, then feel free to change it.--[[User:Citizen|Citizen]] 00:05, 15 January 2009 (EST)
******** Will do. I'm just moving some of your work to [[The Recruit chapter summaries/chapter 301 alternatives]] and reformatting it a little since that's more in line with what you wrote. See [[Operation Splinter/chapter 106 alternatives]] to get an idea of the difference.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:29, 15 January 2009 (EST)

== Precognitive dreaming ==
==NextPart for GNS==
Quick naming conventions question. We have precognitive dreaming listed as a Level 1 canon source because Angela has stated that she can dream the future. In the most recent graphic novel, her ability is explicitly listed as "precognitive dreaming". This is more airtight then a description of "dreaming the future", but if we were to add the explicit gn reference in place of the descriptive episodic one, we'd move down a level on the naming conventions. So should we just leave it as it is or add the more explicit option?--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 16:49, 17 February 2010 (EST)
Hey I just tried to implement your nextpart previouspart logic into the template and the [[War Buddies, Part 6]] and 7 GNs...but it's not showing up. Any ideas on what I am missing? <small>--[[User:HiroDynoSlayer|HiroDynoSlayer]] ([[User talk:HiroDynoSlayer|talk]]) 01/16/2009 14:28 (EST)</small>
* Please add your sig. Ryan said he didn't want nextpart/prevpart for the GNs so I didn't add it.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 14:16, 16 January 2009 (EST)
* It should be referenced using the more explicit option in the power names template, as a more explicit reference trumps one of higher source.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)
**Got it. Thanks!--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 17:07, 17 February 2010 (EST)
** How come? WarBuddies does the same discontinuity jumping as the Recruit does...and I think it is the lone GN that is disjointed like that. Shouldn't all multi-part arcs have the same consistent mode of navigation? <small>--[[User:HiroDynoSlayer|HiroDynoSlayer]] ([[User talk:HiroDynoSlayer|talk]]) 01/16/2009 14:28 (EST)</small>
*** My impression is that Ryan thinks that for the GNs it is sufficient to just note the next/prev part in the 'notes' section (where it has already been added) and not the infobox. You can read what he said exactly on his talk page.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 14:36, 16 January 2009 (EST)
**** OK, I reverted them. <small>--[[User:HiroDynoSlayer|HiroDynoSlayer]] ([[User talk:HiroDynoSlayer|talk]]) 01/16/2009 14:48 (EST)</small>
***** See our discussion [[User_talk:Ryangibsonstewart#Nextpart_and_Lastpart|here]].--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 14:50, 16 January 2009 (EST)
****** The graphic novels are very explicitly numbered. The webisodes are not. We're using an RSS news feed as our basis for ordering them, I believe. They're listing them in the order they release them, so if two webisodes are released concurrently (as is the case with ''Hard Knox'' and ''The Recruit''), different parts overlap one another. On the other hand, the GN infobox is already a bit lengthy as it lists so many credits--adding another line is not necessary, in my opinion. The "next part" of ''War Buddies'' (Part 7 actually takes many years before Part 6 and a little bit before the end of Part 5, so the true chronological order of ''War Buddies'' is 2, 3, 4, some of 5, 7, the rest of 5, 1, 6) is written in the notes. I'm not opposed to adding a line in the infobox, I just don't think we need it...especially considering that we've needed it only one time in three seasons, and that was during the writer's strike when the story was so disjointed and getting content to fans was like putting together a patchwork quilt. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 15:24, 16 January 2009 (EST)

* The simplest way is to use <nowiki>|columns=<# of columns></nowiki> in the DPL. Just added it for you. The related help is [http://semeb.com/dpldemo/index.php?title=DPL:Manual_-_DPL_parameters:_Controlling_output_format#columns here].--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:07, 16 January 2009 (EST)

If you could help with this or suggest a better method to do it, that would be great, thanks. --{{User:Jenx222/sig4}} 10:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)</span>
* I know a little... a MediaWiki bot is I think what you want (not a web bot or a RC bot). A MediaWiki bot is essentially a user whose edits are hidden in Recentchanges until the user clicks on the 'show bots' checkmark. You then program a script (either in your browser or using the server to control the bot). [[User:Admin|Admin]] might be able to explain the process a bit better than me, as he is the only user with bots here on HeroesWiki. An alternative to scripting might be using [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Duplicator Extension:Duplicate] to duplicate the files you want in the new namespace. You might then be about to use [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NukeDPL Extension:NukeDPL] to delete the old pages, if you no longer want them. Both extensions are beta, though, and come with some risk. I'm not sure how secure they are, so you may want to have a backup of the wiki if you use them, and do some testing on the how/if permissions are enforced (or otherwise remove the extensions after you are finished with them).--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)
**Ok thanks, I'll look into it. It's not something that needs to be done urgently anyway. --{{User:Jenx222/sig4}} 10:01, 4 March 2010 (EST)</span>

Hey Miami, for my fan fiction Visions of Earth I've created an infobox for the ability pages. I've got a problem though, on any page that has a mainspace equivilent it is coming up with "Examples of (whichever ability)". Can you tweak the coding a bit so it doesn't come up with that please? If you can then thanks! :) By the way, someone may get to it before you seeing as I left a note asking for help on the template's [[User talk:Leckie/Powernav|talk page]] --{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 14:42, 27 March 2010 (EDT)

::Thanks for the heads-up. It looks like fellow administrator Ryan is already discussing this with him. Also, it is much appreciated that you let it drop. Can only admins rename pages? Because Imprinting really oughta be changed since it is lower than Thoughtography on the conventions scale --[[User:Action Figure|Action Figure]] 07:08, 15 February 2009 (EST)
* Names can be change by normal users, but only if the consensus agrees that is true. I also prefer thoughtography over the current name, but a consensus check was performed against my advice and it shows there is currently no consensus for what a new name should be so the name should remain the same. As to "thoughtography" being a more common name than "imprinting", it has been claimed on [[Talk:Imprinting]] that "imprinting" is as-common a name as "thoughtography".--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 10:39, 15 February 2009 (EST)
* I took a look at it and left a message on the template talk page a couple days ago, asking if there is a preference on how to proceed. I plan to give it a few more days to allow for replies, then edit the image next week as I suggested assuming there are no objections.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 18:30, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
** Thanks, Miami. I saw the comment. I'd rather avoid using a collapsible table. There should be a way to make the div work. I'll see if I can tinkle with it today. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 16:30, 11 April 2010 (EDT)
**The problem there is that imprinting is NOT a common name for that ability (in fact, i cant find ANY examples of it) and no sources were provided. I however provided a source which leads to others of Nensha and thoughtography. Shouldnt the article have the name higher on the conventions list until the concensus is reached? Why should it remain incorrect just because it was the first name picked when there is proof otherwise? Proof should override concensus... --[[User:Action Figure|Action Figure]] 22:30, 16 February 2009 (EST)
*** Imprinting may not be a comic book term, but that doesn't necessarily make it not a common term for what he does. As I've noted, I agree with you that thoughtography is a better term. However, if you want to get the name changed to that, you should try convincing the other people of that by discussing what you mentioned on the talk page.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 19:31, 17 February 2009 (EST)
****Heh, well I did bring all this up on the talk. Anyway, I wasnt referring to them being well used terms in comics, but in the paranormal and parapsychology fields. == tonight's HI ==
== Fan Creation ==
I don't mind it being in the fan creation portal just now. But a question I want to ask is, at what point does a fan fiction become a fan creation? Essentially, the movie is fan fiction, simply not in writing form. I mean, essentially, if I was to create a series of audio dramas based on it, would they be put into the fan creation? I've always considered fan creations to be things like Sarmy, and My Heroes Abilities, etc, which are based on Heroes but have no story connection to it. Anything with a story or plot should essentially come under fan fiction, shouldn't it? --[[User:Mc hammark|mc_hammark]] 17:40, 4 September 2010 (EDT)
* My view is that fan fiction is a form of fan creation, since a fan creates it. So film and audio creations should be considered fan creations, just like fan fiction writings. We have the [[Fan Creation:Fan Fiction Portal|Fan Fiction Portal]] in the Fan Creation namespace, which lists various fan fiction writings related to ''Heroes''. The only difference with film and audio is the medium of the creation.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 18:12, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

Hi, I left a message over at the administrators page but I figured I might get a faster response if I left this here too. I come from wikia's bleach wiki. Wikia is getting ready to change their skins which will cause many problems for us that will basically make use take out 95% of the content on our pages. We are considering moving to a different wiki system. I would like to ask what system you use here and if you like it or not? Also, how much does it cost per month? Thank you--[[User:Godisme|Godisme]] 00:37, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

* We use the standard MediaWiki server and a number of extensions, which you can view the details of on the [[Special:Version]] page. Regarding the cost per month, the site is maintained by [[User:Admin|Admin]], who takes care of the domain registration and hosting on his server, so you would have to ask him for the specifics. I don't think he's taking any new clients, though; so depending on the size of your wiki, you might want to try a shared hosting site like Siteground.com. Hey,
== hello ==

So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my [[User:Iheartheroes|userpage]], I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon.

The whole page uses the template for the links to the eps, GN's, and webisodes almost exclusively. I diagnosed that there may be too many uses of the template. * I agree with your diagnosis. But if the information you are providing is static, you should probably get rid of the template:ep call all together if that is the most frequent and substitute those template invocations in your page one volume at a time. This wiki has a template limit that you can only call so many templates on a page. *******You don't need to do it manually, instead of copying to Microsoft Word, copy it simply to Notepad, it works there. Word messes up everything but notepad doesn't. I personally prefer Notepad++, which is a freeware and more developed then notepad. Archiving Trouble

Hey Miami, I'm having some trouble with my talk page, and since I know you are very good with coding I thought to ask you. If you look at my talk page, I have a template (made today), {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}} is at the top, but there is a problem with the most recently added archives. Could you please help me, as I haven't a clue what's going on! Thanks :)--Leckie -- Talk 15:27, 7 February 2010 (EST)

  • You can only have a few calls to Template:ArchiveLinks in {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}. Adding more causes your page to reach a template limit, so you need to now use Template:ArchivePrelinks instead. The documentation should explain how to use it, but if you don't understand, please let me know and I'll try to elaborate.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:55, 7 February 2010 (EST)
  • Also, I noticed that you had deleted some of your old signature files (i.e. If you don't understand what I mean, please let me know.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:48, 7 February 2010 (EST)
    • Umm, I kinda made it worse :/ Can you help me? --Leckie -- Talk 12:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)
    • Never mind, Jenx222 helped me and its sorted now. --Leckie -- Talk 13:19, 8 February 2010 (EST)
      • Ok, FYI: You were using }} instead of |} to close your table in {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}. Jenx222 fixed that for you. Looks like you figured the rest out yourself, though it seems you took out the no-wrap tags that the ArchivePrelinks template adds for you.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)

Siren's song/Enhanced synesthesia

Hey, I have a brief question concerning Emma's ability name. A month ago, we started a consensus and narrowed it down to four names and then began a poll. Siren's song received the most votes, but I've been told that that isn't the deciding factor. However, since "Siren's song" was mentioned in a canon source by Samuel (and the Watcher called Emma a siren), doesn't that automatically win over all the descriptive level 5 names we came up with?

I'm sorry for potentially dragging you into a mindless debate but we're not sure where to go with this.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 15:54, 9 February 2010 (EST)

  • Right, since the name "Siren's song" was mentioned in the show as pertaining to Emma's ability, only another name mentioned in the show or one derived from such a name can be considered. Since the majority seemed to support 'siren's song' over 'enhanced synesthesia' (the only other canon-derived name I saw mentioned), I think it is okay to leave the name as 'siren's song' for now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:28, 9 February 2010 (EST)
    • Thanks for clarifying.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 23:45, 9 February 2010 (EST)
      • Numbers aren't all, there was valid and so far unchallenged opposition to that name. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:52, 10 February 2010 (EST)
        • I also think that it is at best, unclear that 'Siren's song' was an actual naming of an ability as opposed to being a description of one. --Stevehim 12:41, 10 February 2010 (EST)
          • Regardless, it was the only thing mentioned.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 14:04, 10 February 2010 (EST)
            • Integration of music and emotion was mentioned. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 15:19, 10 February 2010 (EST)
              • Samuel said, quote, "Your emotions can become one with the music." "Music and emotion integration" is a pretty wide step from that point, against "like a siren's song" and "She's a siren". --Ricard Desi (t,c) 15:23, 10 February 2010 (EST)
                • Unless Miami disagrees, this conversation should probably be held on talk:Siren's song, not on Miami's talk page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:43, 10 February 2010 (EST)
                  • True...sorry about that...we've been going at it on that page for awhile and it's at a bit of a stalemate. If any admins could weigh in there whenever they get a chance, that might help sort things out. --Stevehim 15:56, 10 February 2010 (EST)
                  • Yes, lets continue this conversation on the ability talk page. I'll try to add my thoughts there later tonight. Thanks, Ryan.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:58, 10 February 2010 (EST)

Heroes Interactive question

Hi, Miami. Could you check over my answer about the first person Ando supercharged on Heroes Interactive:Brave New World (Heroes)? I chose the wrong answer (I thought it was Daphne), and I didn't go back to get the right answer. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:32, 11 February 2010 (EST)

  • Sure, I just fixed it. It was just missing a 'You got it.'--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:19, 12 February 2010 (EST)
    • And thanks for updating the links for the Heroes Interactive.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:13, 22 October 2015 (EDT)

Enhanced vs Super strength

I will refrain from presenting arguments here, but the current consensus check is here. Thanks very much for weighing in on this. --Stevehim 23:46, 11 February 2010 (EST)

  • I added my comments regarding this to the enhanced strength page on Feb 11-12. Just noting that here now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)

Precognitive dreaming

Quick naming conventions question. We have precognitive dreaming listed as a Level 1 canon source because Angela has stated that she can dream the future. In the most recent graphic novel, her ability is explicitly listed as "precognitive dreaming". This is more airtight then a description of "dreaming the future", but if we were to add the explicit gn reference in place of the descriptive episodic one, we'd move down a level on the naming conventions. So should we just leave it as it is or add the more explicit option?--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 16:49, 17 February 2010 (EST)

  • It should be referenced using the more explicit option in the power names template, as a more explicit reference trumps one of higher source.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)

Namespace issue

Hey, Miami. When you get a second, could you check out the discussion at this link? We're having trouble some of the namespaces recognizing subpages. Thought you might know what's causing the problem. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:45, 20 February 2010 (EST)

  • Not sure what exactly was the problem, but I saw the discussion and see that Admin has fixed it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:12, 21 February 2010 (EST)
    • It wasn't recognizing subpages in certain namespaces (iStory in particular). So there was no difference between the BASEPAGENAME, PAGENAME, and SUBPAGENAME. Worse, the link back to the basepage wasn't appearing. Yes, Admin took care of it. Thanks, though! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:28, 21 February 2010 (EST)

Arzhaev

This user's been creating useless articles and just added a rather odd comment to Yoshi n1's user page after Yoshi asked him not to spam. I thought this would be important to bring to your attention.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 02:06, 23 February 2010 (EST)

  • What the hell? Why would he vandalize my userpage xD?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 12:45, 24 February 2010 (EST)
    • I guess Arzhaev thought he was being funny. He apologized and was warned twice, but then he created another junk/spam article so now he's blocked.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:07, 24 February 2010 (EST)

power(s) variable

Hey, Miami--quick DPL question for you. Well, I hope it's quick at least! :) I'm trying to get the variable power(s) from the character box to print using DPL. Nothing I do makes it print. I'm either overlooking something really simple, or the parentheses in power(s) is throwing stuff off. Any help or tips you could provide would be most appreciated! See here or here or here for some examples/discussion. Thanks, Miami! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:24, 28 February 2010 (EST)

  • Just noting I replied this question on Ryan's talk page a few days ago. Resolved problem by using backslashes in DPL template parameter include.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)

Bots

Hi Miami, are you familiar with bot programming? I need to move a large number of pages into the correct namespace over on The X-Files Wiki, I'm not very familiar with bots :P. If you could help with this or suggest a better method to do it, that would be great, thanks. --Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 10:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)

  • I know a little... a MediaWiki bot is I think what you want (not a web bot or a RC bot). A MediaWiki bot is essentially a user whose edits are hidden in Recentchanges until the user clicks on the 'show bots' checkmark. You then program a script (either in your browser or using the server to control the bot). Admin might be able to explain the process a bit better than me, as he is the only user with bots here on HeroesWiki. An alternative to scripting might be using Extension:Duplicate to duplicate the files you want in the new namespace. You might then be about to use Extension:NukeDPL to delete the old pages, if you no longer want them. Both extensions are beta, though, and come with some risk. I'm not sure how secure they are, so you may want to have a backup of the wiki if you use them, and do some testing on the how/if permissions are enforced (or otherwise remove the extensions after you are finished with them).--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)
    • Ok thanks, I'll look into it. It's not something that needs to be done urgently anyway. --Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 10:01, 4 March 2010 (EST)

Can you help?

Hey Miami, for my fan fiction Visions of Earth I've created an infobox for the ability pages. I've got a problem though, on any page that has a mainspace equivilent it is coming up with "Examples of (whichever ability)". Can you tweak the coding a bit so it doesn't come up with that please? If you can then thanks! :) By the way, someone may get to it before you seeing as I left a note asking for help on the template's talk page --Leckie -- Talk 14:42, 27 March 2010 (EDT)

  • Looks like Jenx already took care of it. Thanks, Jenx! :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:40, 27 March 2010 (EDT)

Hi, I'm sorry for having wasted your time, cleaning up after my acts of vandalism. Hope that all is forgiven. --Arzhaev 05:27, 6 April 2010 (EDT)

  • It is okay, though not forgotten. Please do not vandalize again. Thanks.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:58, 6 April 2010 (EDT)

div help

Hey, Miami. When you get a chance, could you take a look at Template talk:Assignment Tracker#navbar for me? I'm having trouble coding the div tags, and I figured you might know a bit more than I do on the issue. Thanks so much... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:13, 8 April 2010 (EDT)

  • I took a look at it and left a message on the template talk page a couple days ago, asking if there is a preference on how to proceed. I plan to give it a few more days to allow for replies, then edit the image next week as I suggested assuming there are no objections.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:30, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
    • Thanks, Miami. I saw the comment. I'd rather avoid using a collapsible table. There should be a way to make the div work. It's just about making squares and rectangles...but I can't figure out which section I'm missing... I'll see if I can tinkle with it today. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:30, 11 April 2010 (EDT)

Fan Creation

I don't mind it being in the fan creation portal just now. But a question I want to ask is, at what point does a fan fiction become a fan creation? Essentially, the movie is fan fiction, simply not in writing form. I mean, essentially, if I was to create a series of audio dramas based on it, would they be put into the fan creation? I've always considered fan creations to be things like Sarmy, and My Heroes Abilities, etc, which are based on Heroes but have no story connection to it. Anything with a story or plot should essentially come under fan fiction, shouldn't it? --mc_hammark 17:40, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

  • My view is that fan fiction is a form of fan creation, since a fan creates it. So film and audio creations should be considered fan creations, just like fan fiction writings. We have the Fan Fiction Portal in the Fan Creation namespace, which lists various fan fiction writings related to Heroes. The only difference with film and audio is the medium of the creation.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:12, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

A few questions for you

Hi, I left a message over at the administrators page but I figured I might get a faster response if I left this here too. I come from wikia's bleach wiki. Wikia is getting ready to change their skins which will cause many problems for us that will basically make use take out 95% of the content on our pages. We are considering moving to a different wiki system. I would like to ask what system you use here and if you like it or not? Also, how much does it cost per month? Thank you--Godisme 00:37, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

  • We use the standard MediaWiki server and a number of extensions, which you can view the details of on the Special:Version page. Regarding the cost per month, the site is maintained by Admin, who takes care of the domain registration and hosting on his server, so you would have to ask him for the specifics. I don't think he's taking any new clients, though; so depending on the size of your wiki, you might want to try a shared hosting site like Siteground.com. If you need help doing the move, you can also contact a helper like at WikiExpert.com.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:46, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

Making this Wiki Pretty Again

Hey,

So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my userpage, I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon.

Schedule:

After this, we have graphic novels, webisodes, ebooks, and ability pages to finish up. But this way, a lot of it can get done. If you can't help one week or something, that's okay! This is just to inspire you and others to team together to get this done, there aren't a lot of pages under each episode, so maybe we could bust it out in a week, but maybe not!
