Hey. Micah has a Season Three History page but since most people have agreed not to include one (at least until the end of Rebellion), should it be deleted? {{user:joshuakorolenko/Sig}} |

* Na. I think it's okay to start doing the Season Three history pages.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 01:31, 2 August 2009 (EDT) |

Hey Miami, I'm having some trouble with my talk page, and since I know you are very good with coding I thought to ask you. If you look at [[User talk:Leckie|my talk page]], I have a template (made today), <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki> is at the top, but there is a problem with the most recently added archives. Could you please help me, as I haven't a clue what's going on! Thanks :)--{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 15:27, 7 February 2010 (EST) |

* You can only have a few calls to [[Template:ArchiveLinks]] in <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki>. Adding more causes your page to reach a template limit, so you need to now use [[Template:ArchivePrelinks]] instead. The documentation should explain how to use it, but if you don't understand, please let me know and I'll try to elaborate.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 15:55, 7 February 2010 (EST) |

It was actually a painting of Isaac's. An example of induced radioactivity. {{User:Altes/Signature}} |
|||
* Also, I noticed that you had deleted some of your old signature files (i.e. User:Leckie/Signature 4), but they are still linked to from some talk pages. I fixed my page to remove the red links, but for the others I recommend you recreate the signature files as redirects to your current signature. Alternatively, you could search for what links to them and edit all your old comments to use your current signature, but that's a lot more work... If you don't understand what I mean, please let me know.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:48, 7 February 2010 (EST) |

*** Ok, FYI: You were using }} instead of |} to close your table in <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki>. Jenx222 fixed that for you. Looks like you figured the rest out yourself, though it seems you took out the no-wrap tags that the ArchivePrelinks template adds for you.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 13:42, 8 February 2010 (EST) |

==Siren's song/Enhanced synesthesia== |
|||
==Archive help== |
|||
Hey, I have a brief question concerning Emma's ability name. A month ago, we started a consensus and narrowed it down to four names and then began a poll. Siren's song received the most votes, but I've been told that that isn't the deciding factor. However, since "Siren's song" was mentioned in a canon source by Samuel (and the Watcher called Emma a siren), doesn't that automatically win over all the descriptive level 5 names we came up with? |
|||
Miami, could you help me creating a talk page archive? I know how to make the sub page and all, but I have only a vague idea on how to put an "archive notice", so to speak, in my talk page, similar to yours or Ryan's. [[User:Intuitive Empath|Intuitive Empath]] - [[User talk:Intuitive Empath|Talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/Intuitive Empath|Contributions]] 12:12, 2 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
* Basically, you just add a user talk subpage such as "User talk:Intuitive Empath/Top", edit that to list the links as you want, and then in your talk page you call the subpage as a template at the top of the page. You can take a look at "User talk:MiamiVolts/Top" for an example. [[Template:ArchivePrelinks]] may help you some if you have a lot of topics to process and want to link each of them like on my page. If you still need help, please let me know.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 18:40, 2 August 2009 (EDT) |

**Well, a bit of copy and paste from your template and a lot of copy and paste from my talk page, I think I did it. [[User:Intuitive Empath|Intuitive Empath]] - [[User talk:Intuitive Empath|Talk]] - [[Special:Contributions/Intuitive Empath|Contributions]] 21:06, 3 August 2009 (EDT) |

== Just a thought == |
|||
* Right, since the name "Siren's song" was mentioned in the show as pertaining to Emma's ability, only another name mentioned in the show or one derived from such a name can be considered. Since the majority seemed to support 'siren's song' over 'enhanced synesthesia' (the only other canon-derived name I saw mentioned), I think it is okay to leave the name as 'siren's song' for now.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:28, 9 February 2010 (EST) |

== Heroes Interactive question == |
|||
Hey, I noticed you removed [[:Image:Tracy.jpg|Tracy.jpg]]'s AFD tag and added it to [[Heroes Wiki:Used files]] since it was linked to, but not used, on a talk page. I was wondering that, in order to make identifying these types of files easier, would it be possible to include a [[Special:Whatlinkshere]], so that there'd be a list of what pages '''link to''' the file, alongside the list of what pages '''use''' the file? Hope you understand what I'm getting at. --[[User:Radicell|Radicell]] 00:43, 3 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
* I think you mean to add a call to "Special:Whatlinkshere" under the "Links" header. That's possibly in the new MediaWiki version Admin is working on, but I'm not sure. It might be doable to add a footer to image pages with those pages linking to the image by using existing MediaWiki options in this version. Is that what you're getting at?--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 01:09, 3 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
** Yes, exactly. I just thought that it'd be a good addition to help prevent people from mistakenly adding the AFD tag to such images (like I had done with the Tracy image). So d'you think that it'd be possible to do (I suppose the MediaWiki stuff that controls how the website looks will need to be played around with)? --[[User:Radicell|Radicell]] 01:43, 3 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
*** I checked around and was able to get it working by editing [[MediaWiki:Linkstoimage]] on the new server, but unfortunately the links appear in pre-tagged form in the current server version so I commented that code out here for now. Feel free to take a look at the source code.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 02:49, 3 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
****So I assume that once the new server is finished and goes online, the code will work? Thanks then. Also, you know how right now, in the [[special:upload|image upload form]], if one uploads an image with the same title as an existing image, it will display a page asking the user to confirm whether or not to upload over the existing image? Could it be possible to implement a feature that would detect whether or not a category has been assigned to the image being uploaded? And if it detects no categories, it would display a page that asks the user to either add categories or go ahead and upload anyway? Could that somehow be achieved? --[[User:Radicell|Radicell]] 06:52, 4 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
***** Yes, the code should work when Admin updates the server and someone (likely me) uncomments it. :) As for the image upload form, that might be possible, but wouldn't such a message be better placed on the image 'successfully uploaded' page? What do you think?--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 14:43, 4 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
****** Hmm, it seems to me that most of the uncategorized images we have right now are from people not bothering to write anything in the upload form, and just clicking "Upload". Even though I agree that having the message be on the 'successfully uploaded' page is more user-friendly, I think that adding a warning page is more effective. --[[User:Radicell|Radicell]] 22:35, 4 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
******* I'm not sure it makes sense to add it just for re-uploads, but maybe you could ask what people think on the community portal talk page. I'm not against doing so, just not sure of the support for such a change. I don't think there's currently any way to search the upload form itself for a category using in-database code. The part of the upload form where you would write the categories doesn't get checked until after the image begins being uploaded, so this check would just work for re-uploads if we do it on the upload form itself. I guess it would be possible to write a server extension that would do the ideal case for Admin to consider, but that's a much tougher challenge for me and will likely take a while.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 02:15, 5 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
********Alright, I'll post on the Community Portal some time to ask people of their opinion. I think it should work like a "post preview" button; only instead the code previews the upload to see if there are categories; if there are, it uploads it, if not, it directs the user to the warning page. The idea is to apply this to all uploads (since that's where most of the uncategorized images are coming from) instead of just re-uploads. But I will first post on the Community Portal talk page to gather opinions. Thanks for your help. --[[User:Radicell|Radicell]] 03:01, 5 August 2009 (EDT) |

== Enhanced vs Super strength == |
||
Hi. Sorry to bother you, but the issue of whether or not to split the enhanced strength page has re-emerged with overwhelming force in favor of splitting it. Ryan has said that in order to split it, we need to contact those who objected and are still active, and see if their opinion has changed and/or if it ok with you to go ahead and split it. As you are one of the three people he specified contacting, I figured I would do so. I will refrain from presenting arguments here, but the current consensus check is [[Talk:Enhanced_strength#Poll|here]]. == Precognitive dreaming == |
||
Quick naming conventions question. We have precognitive dreaming listed as a Level 1 canon source because Angela has stated that she can dream the future. In the most recent graphic novel, her ability is explicitly listed as "precognitive dreaming". This is more airtight then a description of "dreaming the future", but if we were to add the explicit gn reference in place of the descriptive episodic one, we'd move down a level on the naming conventions. So should we just leave it as it is or add the more explicit option?--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 16:49, 17 February 2010 (EST) |

== Bots == |

Hi Miami, are you familiar with bot programming? I need to move a large number of pages into the correct namespace over on [http://x-fileswiki.com/index.php5?title=Main_Page The X-Files Wiki], I'm not very familiar with bots :P. If you could help with this or suggest a better method to do it, that would be great, thanks. --{{User:Jenx222/sig4}} 10:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)</span> |
|||
* I know a little... a MediaWiki bot is I think what you want (not a web bot or a RC bot). A MediaWiki bot is essentially a user whose edits are hidden in Recentchanges until the user clicks on the 'show bots' checkmark. You then program a script (either in your browser or using the server to control the bot). [[User:Admin|Admin]] might be able to explain the process a bit better than me, as he is the only user with bots here on HeroesWiki. An alternative to scripting might be using [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Duplicator Extension:Duplicate] to duplicate the files you want in the new namespace. You might then be about to use [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NukeDPL Extension:NukeDPL] to delete the old pages, if you no longer want them. Both extensions are beta, though, and come with some risk. I'm not sure how secure they are, so you may want to have a backup of the wiki if you use them, and do some testing on the how/if permissions are enforced (or otherwise remove the extensions after you are finished with them).--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST) |

* You're welcome. You can use <nowiki>{{blurb}}text to go inside{{blurbclose}}</nowiki> and it will appear like {{blurb}}this{{blurbclose}}. If you want the box to appear at the bottom of multiple pages, you can create a user template. For that, create a separate page called "User:Kyle Stevens/footer" and edit it to include the blurb you want to see at the bottom of your pages, then put <nowiki>{{User:Kyle Stevens/footer}}</nowiki> at the bottom of the pages you want the text to appear.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:00, 16 August 2009 (EDT) |

*****I think Ryan already answered this for you, but you need to edit the page of the image and note the source url where you found the image and add the correct category like Ryan advised you. If it's an image you designed yourself, you can just note that it was designed by you instead of putting a source url. Also, regarding images you upload, be sure that it doesn't violate copyright for it to be used here. i.e. screenshots from ''Heroes'' are okay as fair use, but many website images are protected by copyright so be careful.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 01:10, 17 August 2009 (EDT) |

Hey Miami, for my fan fiction Visions of Earth I've created an infobox for the ability pages. I've got a problem though, on any page that has a mainspace equivilent it is coming up with "Examples of (whichever ability)". Can you tweak the coding a bit so it doesn't come up with that please? * Thanks for your work on those checklists, IHH. They should stay on the discussion pages. Some of the pages are really big, but I don't think any of them need to be archived, since the discussions don't really continue too much a week or two after the episode airs. If it's completed, just show that it's completed and leave it there. One of the reasons that there are so many blanks left there is not because people don't work on them (although certainly not as many people work on the checklists as I would hope), but because we typically don't mark something as completed if we leave it as a stub. In other words, if the checklist says to put a summary for ''[[.07%]]'' on the [[Midland, TX]] article, and we only put a stub there, then the checkmark doesn't really belong because the summary isn't complete. However, there's no way I'm going to ask you to go back and undo all the work you've done--especially when a stub is just as good (or better) than a missing checkmark. Ideally, we would have a stub and a missing checkmark, but it's fine as it is. And like I've said before, thanks so much for going through and cleaning up all those checklists. :) -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 00:12, 19 August 2009 (EDT) |

** Thanks, Ryan. Also, I would add that many people only like to take care of parts of the checklist, so in many cases the checklist doesn't get completely done until much later, if ever.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:20, 19 August 2009 (EDT) |

I don't mind it being in the fan creation portal just now. But a question I want to ask is, at what point does a fan fiction become a fan creation? Essentially, the movie is fan fiction, simply not in writing form. I mean, essentially, if I was to create a series of audio dramas based on it, would they be put into the fan creation? I've always considered fan creations to be things like Sarmy, and My Heroes Abilities, etc, which are based on Heroes but have no story connection to it. Anything with a story or plot should essentially come under fan fiction, shouldn't it? --[[User:Mc hammark|mc_hammark]] 17:40, 4 September 2010 (EDT) |

Hey! I have my own contest and wanted to know if you wanted to enter. * My view is that fan fiction is a form of fan creation, since a fan creates it. So film and audio creations should be considered fan creations, just like fan fiction writings. We have the [[Fan Creation:Fan Fiction Portal|Fan Fiction Portal]] in the Fan Creation namespace, which lists various fan fiction writings related to ''Heroes''. The only difference with film and audio is the medium of the creation.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 18:12, 4 September 2010 (EDT) |

== A few questions for you == |
||
Hi, I left a message over at the administrators page but I figured I might get a faster response if I left this here too. I come from wikia's bleach wiki. Wikia is getting ready to change their skins which will cause many problems for us that will basically make use take out 95% of the content on our pages. We are considering moving to a different wiki system. I would like to ask what system you use here and if you like it or not? Also, how much does it cost per month? Thank you--[[User:Godisme|Godisme]] 00:37, 29 September 2010 (EDT) |
|||
* We use the standard MediaWiki server and a number of extensions, which you can view the details of on the [[Special:Version]] page. Regarding the cost per month, the site is maintained by [[User:Admin|Admin]], who takes care of the domain registration and hosting on his server, so you would have to ask him for the specifics. I don't think he's taking any new clients, though; so depending on the size of your wiki, you might want to try a shared hosting site like Siteground.com. If you need help doing the move, you can also contact a helper like at WikiExpert.com.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 01:46, 29 September 2010 (EDT) |

Hey Miami, I'm looking for some help on how to go about writing the "all options" pages for each iStory chapter (pages like [[The Agent chapter summaries/chapter 402 alternatives|this one]]). Since you're usually the ones to write these pages, I figured this was the best place to ask. None of these pages have been written for [[The Civilian]] chapters yet; I'd like to create these pages but would like some pointers on the coding, format, etc. Thanks, it's much appreciated. --[[User:Radicell|Radicell]] 07:09, 26 August 2009 (EDT) |
|||
* Sure, I welcome the help! All you have to do is enclose each choice in a collapsible table, and subdivide it in the way you think makes the most sense. Span tags can also be added to enable easy jumps. Most of the time, there's an introduction which we summarize, and from there there's a few options. In that case each option gets it's own side-by-side table, and the options within each option get their own table. When there's too many suboptions, I've been listing the main options consecutively instead of side-by-side. You should be able to view the code on the other all-options pages for examples. But for a quick pointer, I just put [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Heroes_Wiki:Sandbox&oldid=357210 something in the sandbox] for you to try out...pay attention to option 5. If you have trouble, let me know. *** True. It's not quick to do, which is why I didn't want to keep doing them all myself. So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my [[User:Iheartheroes|userpage]], I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon. |

I had a power outage at my house, and it logged me out of Heroeswiki, and when i went to log back on, it kept saying my password was incorrect. Hey, I'm the 'owner' of Harvey, and I wanted to know how to audition or be accepted or whatever into your faction. I was kinda offering myself on a first come, first served basis, and StreetLife sounds like the kind of thing Harvey would do. The only thing I'm hesitant about is the lack of "protecting ourselves" as a major goal, but I doubt I'm going to find a better match, and it's a rather major faction. Honestly, I'm flattered. Anyway, you can either post something on my [[User_talk:Uncanny474|talk page]] or send me a personal message via 9th Wonders (same username, and I have a recent post in "introduce yourself", if that helps). Hey Miami, I'm having some trouble with my talk page, and since I know you are very good with coding I thought to ask you. If you look at my talk page, I have a template (made today), {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}} is at the top, but there is a problem with the most recently added archives. Could you please help me, as I haven't a clue what's going on! Thanks :)--Leckie -- Talk 15:27, 7 February 2010 (EST)
- You can only have a few calls to Template:ArchiveLinks in {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}. Adding more causes your page to reach a template limit, so you need to now use Template:ArchivePrelinks instead. The documentation should explain how to use it, but if you don't understand, please let me know and I'll try to elaborate.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:55, 7 February 2010 (EST)
- Also, I noticed that you had deleted some of your old signature files (i.e. If you don't understand what I mean, please let me know.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:48, 7 February 2010 (EST)
- Umm, I kinda made it worse :/ Can you help me? --Leckie -- Talk 12:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)
- Never mind, Jenx222 helped me and its sorted now. --Leckie -- Talk 13:19, 8 February 2010 (EST)
- Ok, FYI: You were using }} instead of |} to close your table in {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}. Jenx222 fixed that for you. Looks like you figured the rest out yourself, though it seems you took out the no-wrap tags that the ArchivePrelinks template adds for you.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)
Siren's song/Enhanced synesthesia
Hey, I have a brief question concerning Emma's ability name. A month ago, we started a consensus and narrowed it down to four names and then began a poll. Siren's song received the most votes, but I've been told that that isn't the deciding factor. However, since "Siren's song" was mentioned in a canon source by Samuel (and the Watcher called Emma a siren), doesn't that automatically win over all the descriptive level 5 names we came up with?
I'm sorry for potentially dragging you into a mindless debate but we're not sure where to go with this.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 15:54, 9 February 2010 (EST)
- Right, since the name "Siren's song" was mentioned in the show as pertaining to Emma's ability, only another name mentioned in the show or one derived from such a name can be considered. Since the majority seemed to support 'siren's song' over 'enhanced synesthesia' (the only other canon-derived name I saw mentioned), I think it is okay to leave the name as 'siren's song' for now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:28, 9 February 2010 (EST)
- Thanks for clarifying.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 23:45, 9 February 2010 (EST)
- Numbers aren't all, there was valid and so far unchallenged opposition to that name. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:52, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- I also think that it is at best, unclear that 'Siren's song' was an actual naming of an ability as opposed to being a description of one. --Stevehim 12:41, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- Regardless, it was the only thing mentioned.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 14:04, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- Integration of music and emotion was mentioned. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 15:19, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- Samuel said, quote, "Your emotions can become one with the music." "Music and emotion integration" is a pretty wide step from that point, against "like a siren's song" and "She's a siren". --Ricard Desi (t,c) 15:23, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- Unless Miami disagrees, this conversation should probably be held on talk:Siren's song, not on Miami's talk page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:43, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- True...sorry about that...we've been going at it on that page for awhile and it's at a bit of a stalemate. If any admins could weigh in there whenever they get a chance, that might help sort things out. --Stevehim 15:56, 10 February 2010 (EST)
- Yes, lets continue this conversation on the ability talk page. I'll try to add my thoughts there later tonight. Thanks, Ryan.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:58, 10 February 2010 (EST)

Heroes Interactive question
Hi, Miami. Could you check over my answer about the first person Ando supercharged on Heroes Interactive:Brave New World (Heroes)? I chose the wrong answer (I thought it was Daphne), and I didn't go back to get the right answer. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:32, 11 February 2010 (EST)
- Sure, I just fixed it. It was just missing a 'You got it.'--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:19, 12 February 2010 (EST)
- And thanks for updating the links for the Heroes Interactive.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:13, 22 October 2015 (EDT)
Enhanced vs Super strength
I will refrain from presenting arguments here, but the current consensus check is here. Thanks very much for weighing in on this. --Stevehim 23:46, 11 February 2010 (EST)
- I added my comments regarding this to the enhanced strength page on Feb 11-12. Just noting that here now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)
Precognitive dreaming
Quick naming conventions question. We have precognitive dreaming listed as a Level 1 canon source because Angela has stated that she can dream the future. In the most recent graphic novel, her ability is explicitly listed as "precognitive dreaming". This is more airtight then a description of "dreaming the future", but if we were to add the explicit gn reference in place of the descriptive episodic one, we'd move down a level on the naming conventions. So should we just leave it as it is or add the more explicit option?--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 16:49, 17 February 2010 (EST)
- It should be referenced using the more explicit option in the power names template, as a more explicit reference trumps one of higher source.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)
- Got it. Thanks!--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 17:07, 17 February 2010 (EST)
Namespace issue
Hey, Miami. When you get a second, could you check out the discussion at this link? We're having trouble some of the namespaces recognizing subpages. Thought you might know what's causing the problem. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:45, 20 February 2010 (EST)
- Not sure what exactly was the problem, but I saw the discussion and see that Admin has fixed it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:12, 21 February 2010 (EST)
- It wasn't recognizing subpages in certain namespaces (iStory in particular). So there was no difference between the BASEPAGENAME, PAGENAME, and SUBPAGENAME. Worse, the link back to the basepage wasn't appearing. Yes, Admin took care of it. Thanks, though! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:28, 21 February 2010 (EST)
Arzhaev
This user's been creating useless articles and just added a rather odd comment to Yoshi n1's user page after Yoshi asked him not to spam. I thought this would be important to bring to your attention.--PJDEP - Talk - Polls and Opinions 02:06, 23 February 2010 (EST)
- What the hell? Why would he vandalize my userpage xD?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 12:45, 24 February 2010 (EST)
- I guess Arzhaev thought he was being funny. He apologized and was warned twice, but then he created another junk/spam article so now he's blocked.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:07, 24 February 2010 (EST)
power(s) variable
Hey, Miami--quick DPL question for you. Well, I hope it's quick at least! :) I'm trying to get the variable power(s) from the character box to print using DPL. Nothing I do makes it print. I'm either overlooking something really simple, or the parentheses in power(s) is throwing stuff off. Any help or tips you could provide would be most appreciated! See here or here or here for some examples/discussion. Thanks, Miami! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:24, 28 February 2010 (EST)
- Just noting I replied this question on Ryan's talk page a few days ago. Resolved problem by using backslashes in DPL template parameter include.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)
Bots
Hi Miami, are you familiar with bot programming? I need to move a large number of pages into the correct namespace over on The X-Files Wiki, I'm not very familiar with bots :P. If you could help with this or suggest a better method to do it, that would be great, thanks. --Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 10:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)
- I know a little... a MediaWiki bot is I think what you want (not a web bot or a RC bot). A MediaWiki bot is essentially a user whose edits are hidden in Recentchanges until the user clicks on the 'show bots' checkmark. You then program a script (either in your browser or using the server to control the bot). Admin might be able to explain the process a bit better than me, as he is the only user with bots here on HeroesWiki. An alternative to scripting might be using Extension:Duplicate to duplicate the files you want in the new namespace. You might then be about to use Extension:NukeDPL to delete the old pages, if you no longer want them. Both extensions are beta, though, and come with some risk. I'm not sure how secure they are, so you may want to have a backup of the wiki if you use them, and do some testing on the how/if permissions are enforced (or otherwise remove the extensions after you are finished with them).--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)

Can you help?
Hey Miami, for my fan fiction Visions of Earth I've created an infobox for the ability pages. I've got a problem though, on any page that has a mainspace equivilent it is coming up with "Examples of (whichever ability)". Can you tweak the coding a bit so it doesn't come up with that please? If you can then thanks! :) By the way, someone may get to it before you seeing as I left a note asking for help on the template's talk page --Leckie -- Talk 14:42, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
- Looks like Jenx already took care of it. Thanks, Jenx! :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:40, 27 March 2010 (EDT)
Sorry
Hi, I'm sorry for having wasted your time, cleaning up after my acts of vandalism. Hope that all is forgiven. --Arzhaev 05:27, 6 April 2010 (EDT)
- It is okay, though not forgotten. Please do not vandalize again. Thanks.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:58, 6 April 2010 (EDT)
div help
Hey, Miami. When you get a chance, could you take a look at Template talk:Assignment Tracker#navbar for me? I'm having trouble coding the div tags, and I figured you might know a bit more than I do on the issue. Thanks so much... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:13, 8 April 2010 (EDT)
- I took a look at it and left a message on the template talk page a couple days ago, asking if there is a preference on how to proceed. I plan to give it a few more days to allow for replies, then edit the image next week as I suggested assuming there are no objections.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:30, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
- Thanks, Miami. I saw the comment. I'd rather avoid using a collapsible table. There should be a way to make the div work. It's just about making squares and rectangles...but I can't figure out which section I'm missing... I'll see if I can tinkle with it today. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:30, 11 April 2010 (EDT)
Fan Creation
I don't mind it being in the fan creation portal just now. But a question I want to ask is, at what point does a fan fiction become a fan creation? Essentially, the movie is fan fiction, simply not in writing form. I mean, essentially, if I was to create a series of audio dramas based on it, would they be put into the fan creation? I've always considered fan creations to be things like Sarmy, and My Heroes Abilities, etc, which are based on Heroes but have no story connection to it. Anything with a story or plot should essentially come under fan fiction, shouldn't it? --mc_hammark 17:40, 4 September 2010 (EDT)
- My view is that fan fiction is a form of fan creation, since a fan creates it. So film and audio creations should be considered fan creations, just like fan fiction writings. We have the Fan Fiction Portal in the Fan Creation namespace, which lists various fan fiction writings related to Heroes. The only difference with film and audio is the medium of the creation.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:12, 4 September 2010 (EDT)
A few questions for you
Hi, I left a message over at the administrators page but I figured I might get a faster response if I left this here too. Thank you--Godisme 00:37, 29 September 2010 (EDT)
- We use the standard MediaWiki server and a number of extensions, which you can view the details of on the Special:Version page. Regarding the cost per month, the site is maintained by Admin, who takes care of the domain registration and hosting on his server, so you would have to ask him for the specifics. I don't think he's taking any new clients, though; so depending on the size of your wiki, you might want to try a shared hosting site like Siteground.com. If you need help doing the move, you can also contact a helper like at WikiExpert.com.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:46, 29 September 2010 (EDT)
New Vandal
using the handle RGSlicksnuts http://heroeswiki.com/Special:Contributions/RGSlicksnuts is all the damage he's done. Thanks for the screenshots, but I really wanted a moving gif. If you can't upload that here, upload somewhere else, like at imgur. Sandubadear (talk) 07:13, 8 November 2015 (EST)
- Oh, you didn't say before that you wanted an animated/moving gif. Please accept the screenshots for here for now as that's what I intended to do. I will ask the administrators if an animated gif would be appropriate, and then perhaps someone else can help. I do see some animated gifs at 9thwonders.com that come from tumblr...--MiamiVolts (talk) 09:45, 8 November 2015 (EST)

Making this Wiki Pretty Again
Hey,
So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my userpage, I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon.
Schedule:
- Week of March 20: (Brave New World)
- Week of March 27: (Odessa)
- Week of April 3: (Under the Mask)
- Week of April 10: (The Needs of the Many)
- Week of April 17: (The Lion's Den)
- Week of April 24: (Game Over)
- Week of May 1: (June 13th, Part One)
- Week of May 8: (June 13th, Part Two)
- Week of May 15: (Sundae, Bloody Sundae)
- Week of May 22: (11:53 to Odessa)
- Week of May 29: (Send in the Clones)
- Week of June 5: (Company Woman)
- Week of June 12: (Project Reborn)
After this, we have graphic novels, webisodes, ebooks, and ability pages to finish up. But this way, a lot of it can get done. If you can't help one week or something, that's okay! This is just to inspire you and others to team together to get this done, there aren't a lot of pages under each episode, so maybe we could bust it out in a week, but maybe not! What do you say, you in? ~~IHH—Talk 14:06, 15 March 2016 (EDT)
