== Archiving Trouble ==

Hey Miami, I'm having some trouble with my talk page, and since I know you are very good with coding I thought to ask you. If you look at [[User talk:Leckie|my talk page]], I have a template (made today), <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki> is at the top, but there is a problem with the most recently added archives. Could you please help me, as I haven't a clue what's going on! Thanks :)--{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 15:27, 7 February 2010 (EST)
* You can only have a few calls to [[Template:ArchiveLinks]] in <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki>. Adding more causes your page to reach a template limit, so you need to now use [[Template:ArchivePrelinks]] instead. The documentation should explain how to use it, but if you don't understand, please let me know and I'll try to elaborate.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 15:55, 7 February 2010 (EST)
* Also, I noticed that you had deleted some of your old signature files (i.e. User:Leckie/Signature 4), but they are still linked to from some talk pages. I fixed my page to remove the red links, but for the others I recommend you recreate the signature files as redirects to your current signature. Alternatively, you could search for what links to them and edit all your old comments to use your current signature, but that's a lot more work... If you don't understand what I mean, please let me know.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:48, 7 February 2010 (EST)
** Umm, I kinda made it worse :/ Can you help me? --{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 12:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)
** Never mind, [[User:Jenx222|Jenx222]] helped me and its sorted now. --{{User:Leckie/Signature 10}} 13:19, 8 February 2010 (EST)
*** Ok, FYI: You were using }} instead of |} to close your table in <nowiki>{{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}</nowiki>. Jenx222 fixed that for you. Looks like you figured the rest out yourself, though it seems you took out the no-wrap tags that the ArchivePrelinks template adds for you.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 13:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)

==Siren's song/Enhanced synesthesia==
Hey, I have a brief question concerning Emma's ability name. A month ago, we started a consensus and narrowed it down to four names and then began a poll. Siren's song received the most votes, but I've been told that that isn't the deciding factor. However, since "Siren's song" was mentioned in a canon source by Samuel (and the Watcher called Emma a siren), doesn't that automatically win over all the descriptive level 5 names we came up with?

I'm sorry for potentially dragging you into a mindless debate but we're not sure where to go with this.--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 15:54, 9 February 2010 (EST)
* Right, since the name "Siren's song" was mentioned in the show as pertaining to Emma's ability, only another name mentioned in the show or one derived from such a name can be considered. Since the majority seemed to support 'siren's song' over 'enhanced synesthesia' (the only other canon-derived name I saw mentioned), I think it is okay to leave the name as 'siren's song' for now.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:28, 9 February 2010 (EST)
**Thanks for clarifying.--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 23:45, 9 February 2010 (EST)

**** I also think that it is at best, unclear that 'Siren's song' was an actual naming of an ability as opposed to being a description of one. --[[User:Stevehim|Stevehim]] 12:41, 10 February 2010 (EST)
*****Regardless, it was the only thing mentioned.--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 14:04, 10 February 2010 (EST)

*******Samuel said, quote, "Your emotions can become one with the music." "Music and emotion integration" is a pretty wide step from that point, against "like a siren's song" and "She's a siren". --[[User:Ricard Desi|Ricard Desi]] ([[User talk:Ricard Desi|t]],[[Special:Contributions/Ricard Desi|c]]) 15:23, 10 February 2010 (EST)
******** Unless Miami disagrees, this conversation should probably be held on [[talk:Siren's song]], not on Miami's talk page. -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 15:43, 10 February 2010 (EST)
********* True...sorry about that...we've been going at it on that page for awhile and it's at a bit of a stalemate. If any admins could weigh in there whenever they get a chance, that might help sort things out. --[[User:Stevehim|Stevehim]] 15:56, 10 February 2010 (EST)
********* Yes, lets continue this conversation on the ability talk page. I'll try to add my thoughts there later tonight. Thanks, Ryan.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 15:58, 10 February 2010 (EST)

== Heroes Interactive question ==

Hi, Miami. Could you check over my answer about the first person Ando supercharged on [[Heroes Interactive:Brave New World (Heroes)]]? I chose the wrong answer (I thought it was Daphne), and I didn't go back to get the right answer. Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 11:32, 11 February 2010 (EST)
* Sure, I just fixed it. It was just missing a 'You got it.'--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 02:19, 12 February 2010 (EST)
** And thanks for updating the links for the Heroes Interactive.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 14:13, 22 October 2015 (EDT)

== Enhanced vs Super strength ==

Hi. Sorry to bother you, but the issue of whether or not to split the enhanced strength page has re-emerged with overwhelming force in favor of splitting it. Ryan has said that in order to split it, we need to contact those who objected and are still active, and see if their opinion has changed and/or if it ok with you to go ahead and split it. As you are one of the three people he specified contacting, I figured I would do so. I will refrain from presenting arguments here, but the current consensus check is [[Talk:Enhanced_strength#Poll|here]]. Thanks very much for weighing in on this. --[[User:Stevehim|Stevehim]] 23:46, 11 February 2010 (EST)
* I added my comments regarding this to the enhanced strength page on Feb 11-12. Just noting that here now.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)

== Precognitive dreaming ==
Quick naming conventions question. We have precognitive dreaming listed as a Level 1 canon source because Angela has stated that she can dream the future. In the most recent graphic novel, her ability is explicitly listed as "precognitive dreaming". This is more airtight then a description of "dreaming the future", but if we were to add the explicit gn reference in place of the descriptive episodic one, we'd move down a level on the naming conventions. So should we just leave it as it is or add the more explicit option?--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 16:49, 17 February 2010 (EST)
* It should be referenced using the more explicit option in the power names template, as a more explicit reference trumps one of higher source.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)
**Got it. Thanks!--[[User:PJDEP|PJDEP]] - [[User Talk:PJDEP|Need further explanation?]] 17:07, 17 February 2010 (EST)

== Namespace issue ==

Hey, Miami. When you get a second, could you check out the discussion [[iStory talk:Purpose/chapter summaries|at this link]]? We're having trouble some of the namespaces recognizing subpages. Thought you might know what's causing the problem. Thanks! -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 13:45, 20 February 2010 (EST)
* Not sure what exactly was the problem, but I saw the discussion and see that Admin has fixed it.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 20:12, 21 February 2010 (EST)
** It wasn't recognizing subpages in certain namespaces (iStory in particular). So there was no difference between the BASEPAGENAME, PAGENAME, and SUBPAGENAME. Worse, the link back to the basepage wasn't appearing. Yes, Admin took care of it. Thanks, though! :) -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 21:28, 21 February 2010 (EST)

This user's been creating useless articles and just added a [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=User:Yoshi_n1&diff=433946&oldid=433401 rather odd comment] to Yoshi n1's user page after Yoshi asked him not to spam. I thought this would be important to bring to your attention.--{{User:PJDEP/signature1}} 02:06, 23 February 2010 (EST)

Is there a way to make a DPL page that essentially is the opposite of a category for images? For example, if I wanted to see every image that's ''not'' in [[:Category:Images of Peter Petrelli]], is there a way to make a DPL page that will have every image? I just need an example, and then I can tweak with it a bit. Thanks.
* Yes, it can be done to an extent. Click [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Heroes_Wiki:Sandbox&oldid=163123 here] for an example. You're welcome.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 03:00, 23 March 2008 (EDT)
On my [[User:SacValleyDweller/GN info table|GN info table]], I tried to put the Issue number column in the first column and the title in the second one. [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=User:SacValleyDweller/GN_info_table&oldid=168487 it didnt work]. What'd I do went wrong? --{{User:SacValleyDweller/sig}} 23:42, 1 May 2008 (EDT)
* The DPL code you are using is set to search the Issues category, which when viewed displays a list of graphic novel titles, so that will always appear first before any included text. Also, ":number" needs to come after the text "{Graphic Novel Sidebar}" or else the "include=" statement will be broken due to it not knowing what ":number" refers to. If you want the article number first, you have to use Template:DPLSearch or something similar to do that, but it will probably tick out for now--Admin is planning to upgrade MediaWiki tonight and DPL next week so perhaps things will get better.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:14, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
** So, I should hold off a couple weeks before trying to make the table do what I want, right?--{{User:SacValleyDweller/sig}} 02:33, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
*** Well, the only way to do what you want now is to do it manually (no DPL). I'd wait a week for Admin to install the new DPL, and maybe another week to see if he's going to up the new computation variable. Then you can try yourself or remind me and I'll try and help.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 02:45, 2 May 2008 (EDT)
**** Hey! Um, one can we try that now? and two the table isnt working , it aint showing the latest GNs --{{User:SacValleyDweller/sig}} 00:37, 14 May 2008 (EDT)
***** The new DPL isn't giving much if any improvement, and if in table mode you've reached the limit, I don't think changing the DPL would help. The rest have to be done manually for now. Alternatively, you can archive the first novels as static and change the code to start on the subsequent novel. I'll see if I can look at that tomorrow.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:44, 14 May 2008 (EDT)
****** So how would I go about making the first 80 or so static and having DPL grab the ones after that and have all that in one sortable table?--{{User:SacValleyDweller/sig}} 23:37, 20 May 2008 (EDT)
** I think you'll want to make the first 34 that came in the first issue static and in a separate collapsible/sortable table as that makes the most sense. The DPL code is going to make its own table and there's no way to daisy-chain tables together such that the sorting will work globally. <s>To make the current code start at a later issue # than 1, you just have to add one element to the code I gave you before: "|offset=34" assuming you want to start with issue 35 (volume one is the first 34 novels).</s> Making the static table is more straightforward. You'll need to look at how it's done with archiving (I documented that at [[Template:ArchiveLinks]]). It'll be the same deal here:<br />
View this table as-is and copy the related HTML table source a little at a time to [http://diberri.dyndns.org/wikipedia/html2wiki/index.html WikiConverter] (you only need the first 34 rows). Use the "View->Source" browser command to see the raw source in HTML format. Once you have all the HTML source at the WikiConverter page, ensure the Wiki dialect of "MediaWiki" is selected and click the "Convert HTML to wiki markup" button. Then copy the output markup to the desired subpage. Finally, add the subpage using inclusion. If you have trouble implementing this, let me know where you're working on it and I'll do some of the steps.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 00:45, 21 May 2008 (EDT)
* Unfortunately, I just tested and using "|offset=34" doesn't allow any extra chapters past 83 (though it does hide the first 34 chapters). So instead I think we need to use "|notlinksfrom=<subpage>" where the subpage is the static table page.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 03:50, 21 May 2008 (EDT)

Hey, Miami--quick DPL question for you. Well, I hope it's quick at least! :) I'm trying to get the variable <code>power(s)</code> from the [[template:character box|character box]] to print using DPL. Nothing I do makes it print. I'm either overlooking something really simple, or the parentheses in <code>power(s)</code> is throwing stuff off. Any help or tips you could provide would be most appreciated! See [http://heroeswiki.com/index.php?title=Heroes_Wiki:Sandbox&oldid=435122 here] or [[User:SacValleyDweller/Sandbox|here]] or [[User talk:Ryangibsonstewart#a DPL experiment going wrong|here]] for some examples/discussion. OK, I have another one: What is DPL and what does it stand for?--{{User:SacValleyDweller/sig}} 01:55, 4 May 2008 (EDT)
* It stands for "Dynamic Page Listing" (a markup extension for wikis) and there is an extensive help manual for it [http://semeb.com/dpldemo/index.php?title=DPL:Manual here]. I have mostly finished now a DPL help manual for Heroes Wiki that I've been writing for some time. When Admin updates the DPL on Thursday I plan to update/post it asap.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 02:09, 4 May 2008 (EDT)

== Bots ==
Hi Miami, are you familiar with bot programming? I need to move a large number of pages into the correct namespace over on [http://x-fileswiki.com/index.php5?title=Main_Page The X-Files Wiki], I'm not very familiar with bots :P. If you could help with this or suggest a better method to do it, that would be great, thanks. --{{User:Jenx222/sig4}} 10:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)</span>
* I know a little... a MediaWiki bot is I think what you want (not a web bot or a RC bot). A MediaWiki bot is essentially a user whose edits are hidden in Recentchanges until the user clicks on the 'show bots' checkmark. You then program a script (either in your browser or using the server to control the bot). [[User:Admin|Admin]] might be able to explain the process a bit better than me, as he is the only user with bots here on HeroesWiki. An alternative to scripting might be using [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Duplicator Extension:Duplicate] to duplicate the files you want in the new namespace. You might then be about to use [http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NukeDPL Extension:NukeDPL] to delete the old pages, if you no longer want them. Both extensions are beta, though, and come with some risk. I'm not sure how secure they are, so you may want to have a backup of the wiki if you use them, and do some testing on the how/if permissions are enforced (or otherwise remove the extensions after you are finished with them).--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)
**Ok thanks, I'll look into it. It's not something that needs to be done urgently anyway. --{{User:Jenx222/sig4}} 10:01, 4 March 2010 (EST)</span>

== It's back ==
* Actually, I can update DPL right now pretty easily if you're interested in going through some of the different DPL pages afterwards and making sure nothing appears broken. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 17:34, 1 May 2008 (EDT))
** It's your decision, but I think the MediaWiki upgrade should be done first since the way it tracks computation size is different. If that works and the current version we have of DPL is still ok, then upgrade the DPL. Having expanded DPL features is not as important to me as the new MediaWiki features.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 17:42, 1 May 2008 (EDT)
*** Ok, I'll keep the DPL update scheduled for next week then. ([[User:Admin|Admin]] 17:44, 1 May 2008 (EDT))

My current using habits: Come here, check recent changes, THEN login if I want to play with things and/or fix something, patrol <small>(mostly your ;) )</small> stuff if I have time, hoping I don't stumble on a spoiler in the process. With this recent spoiler influx, I'd guess better login first thing nowadays to get some sort of warning keep my spoiler filters from getting more perforated. *laughs* --{{User:SacValleyDweller/sig}} 02:25, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
Hey, Miami. When you get a chance, could you take a look at [[Template talk:Assignment Tracker#navbar]] for me? I'm having trouble coding the div tags, and I figured you might know a bit more than I do on the issue. Thanks so much... -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 23:13, 8 April 2010 (EDT)
* Miami, one way to help people avoiding spoiler info is actually to ''not'' put a summary when creating (or fixing) a redirect to a spoiler page. For instance, if you are going to update the redirect for [[Joy]] and the summary says "fix redirect", then there's no way for a spoilerphobe to know that clicking on that link will take them to a spoiler page. However, if you don't put a summary, then the summary will automatically read "Redirecting to [[Spoiler:Daphne]]", which is a lot easier to detect as a spoiler page. Just a tip. :) -- {{User:Ryangibsonstewart/sig}} 09:27, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
** Good tip, but that wouldn't stop spoilerphobes from learning that way that the character who was supposed to be Joy is now supposed to be called Daphne. I guess I could just put "fix spoiler redirect" to be safe.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 09:48, 10 May 2008 (EDT)
* I took a look at it and left a message on the template talk page a couple days ago, asking if there is a preference on how to proceed. I plan to give it a few more days to allow for replies, then edit the image next week as I suggested assuming there are no objections.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 18:30, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
*** Good Idea, ryan, and you got a good point Miami. ** Thanks, Miami. I saw the comment. I'd rather avoid using a collapsible table. There should be a way to make the div work. == Fan Creation ==
I don't mind it being in the fan creation portal just now. But a question I want to ask is, at what point does a fan fiction become a fan creation? Essentially, the movie is fan fiction, simply not in writing form. I mean, essentially, if I was to create a series of audio dramas based on it, would they be put into the fan creation? I've always considered fan creations to be things like Sarmy, and My Heroes Abilities, etc, which are based on Heroes but have no story connection to it. Anything with a story or plot should essentially come under fan fiction, shouldn't it? --[[User:Mc hammark|mc_hammark]] 17:40, 4 September 2010 (EDT)
* My view is that fan fiction is a form of fan creation, since a fan creates it. So film and audio creations should be considered fan creations, just like fan fiction writings. We have the [[Fan Creation:Fan Fiction Portal|Fan Fiction Portal]] in the Fan Creation namespace, which lists various fan fiction writings related to ''Heroes''. The only difference with film and audio is the medium of the creation.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 18:12, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

==Demonstration of Nerve gas emission==
Hi, I left a message over at the administrators page but I figured I might get a faster response if I left this here too. I come from wikia's bleach wiki. Wikia is getting ready to change their skins which will cause many problems for us that will basically make use take out 95% of the content on our pages. We are considering moving to a different wiki system. I would like to ask what system you use here and if you like it or not? Also, how much does it cost per month? Thank you--[[User:Godisme|Godisme]] 00:37, 29 September 2010 (EDT)
I removed your afd tag....go read this explanation here: http://heroeswiki.com/Graphic_Novel_talk:Faces%2C_Part_1 The power was demonstrated (albeit it briefly and not to full fruition), in the GN...per the GN explanation of the power. Thanks! <small>--[[User:HiroDynoSlayer|HiroDynoSlayer]] ([[User talk:HiroDynoSlayer|talk]]) 05/20/2008 11:43 (EST)</small>
* We use the standard MediaWiki server and a number of extensions, which you can view the details of on the [[Special:Version]] page. Regarding the cost per month, the site is maintained by [[User:Admin|Admin]], who takes care of the domain registration and hosting on his server, so you would have to ask him for the specifics. I don't think he's taking any new clients, though; so depending on the size of your wiki, you might want to try a shared hosting site like Siteground.com. If you need help doing the move, you can also contact a helper like at WikiExpert.com.--[[User:MiamiVolts|MiamiVolts]] ([[User_talk:MiamiVolts|talk]]) 01:46, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

** I re-replied. The GN says that when he sweats, he emits nerve gas. Not after he has sweated for a while, he eventually emits it. So Penny must have tagged him unconscious before the emission from his sweating got severe enough to kill people. It is conjecture to say it was not demonstrated, simply because the sweating demonstration was not allowed to continue until carnage insued. The GN simply says, '''when he sweats''' he emits a nerve gas. That should be enough foundation for us to credit him. <small>--[[User:HiroDynoSlayer|HiroDynoSlayer]] ([[User talk:HiroDynoSlayer|talk]]) 05/20/2008 11:50 (EST)</small>

So what should I do in the future? [[User:Therequiembellishere|Therequiembellishere]] 15:00, 22 May 2008 (EDT)
* Ok, I'll try to explain with an example. For instance, Trust Issues, Part 2's animated video is at "http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/episodes.shtml#vid=252913&tin=607.000&tou=853.889&plt=lf". In the external links section of the "Graphic Novel:Trust Issues, Part 2" article, you need to only add the part after the vid= (252913&tin=607.000&tou=853.889&plt=lf) to after vid= in the template call. That's why I changed the template call to now read "<nowiki>{{GN|chapter=85|pages=6|vid=252913&tin=607.000&tou=853.889&plt=lf}}</nowiki>". So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my [[User:Iheartheroes|userpage]], I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon.

Hey Miami, sorry I did check the recent changes but didn't notice it had been unmarked and just thought I had forgotten to do so before - I thought since [[instant messaging]] has an article about R&B2, it should be marked. * That depends on whether the article has a gallery. If it has a gallery, you need to check if there's an image of it there for the current novel along with the text entry. If there's no gallery, it just needs the text entry. Archiving Trouble

Hey Miami, I'm having some trouble with my talk page, and since I know you are very good with coding I thought to ask you. If you look at my talk page, I have a template (made today), {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}} is at the top, but there is a problem with the most recently added archives. Could you please help me, as I haven't a clue what's going on! Thanks :)--Leckie -- Talk 15:27, 7 February 2010 (EST)

  • You can only have a few calls to Template:ArchiveLinks in {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}. Adding more causes your page to reach a template limit, so you need to now use Template:ArchivePrelinks instead. The documentation should explain how to use it, but if you don't understand, please let me know and I'll try to elaborate.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:55, 7 February 2010 (EST)
  • Also, I noticed that you had deleted some of your old signature files (i.e. If you don't understand what I mean, please let me know.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:48, 7 February 2010 (EST)
    • Umm, I kinda made it worse :/ Can you help me? --Leckie -- Talk 12:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)
    • Never mind, Jenx222 helped me and its sorted now. --Leckie -- Talk 13:19, 8 February 2010 (EST)
      • Ok, FYI: You were using }} instead of |} to close your table in {{User talk:Leckie/Archives}}. Jenx222 fixed that for you. Looks like you figured the rest out yourself, though it seems you took out the no-wrap tags that the ArchivePrelinks template adds for you.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:42, 8 February 2010 (EST)

Siren's song/Enhanced synesthesia

Hey, I have a brief question concerning Emma's ability name. A month ago, we started a consensus and narrowed it down to four names and then began a poll. Siren's song received the most votes, but I've been told that that isn't the deciding factor. However, since "Siren's song" was mentioned in a canon source by Samuel (and the Watcher called Emma a siren), doesn't that automatically win over all the descriptive level 5 names we came up with?

I'm sorry for potentially dragging you into a mindless debate but we're not sure where to go with this.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 15:54, 9 February 2010 (EST)

  • Right, since the name "Siren's song" was mentioned in the show as pertaining to Emma's ability, only another name mentioned in the show or one derived from such a name can be considered. Since the majority seemed to support 'siren's song' over 'enhanced synesthesia' (the only other canon-derived name I saw mentioned), I think it is okay to leave the name as 'siren's song' for now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:28, 9 February 2010 (EST)
    • Thanks for clarifying.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 23:45, 9 February 2010 (EST)
      • Numbers aren't all, there was valid and so far unchallenged opposition to that name. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 09:52, 10 February 2010 (EST)
        • I also think that it is at best, unclear that 'Siren's song' was an actual naming of an ability as opposed to being a description of one. --Stevehim 12:41, 10 February 2010 (EST)
          • Regardless, it was the only thing mentioned.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 14:04, 10 February 2010 (EST)
            • Integration of music and emotion was mentioned. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 15:19, 10 February 2010 (EST)
              • Samuel said, quote, "Your emotions can become one with the music." "Music and emotion integration" is a pretty wide step from that point, against "like a siren's song" and "She's a siren". --Ricard Desi (t,c) 15:23, 10 February 2010 (EST)
                • Unless Miami disagrees, this conversation should probably be held on talk:Siren's song, not on Miami's talk page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:43, 10 February 2010 (EST)
                  • True...sorry about that...we've been going at it on that page for awhile and it's at a bit of a stalemate. If any admins could weigh in there whenever they get a chance, that might help sort things out. --Stevehim 15:56, 10 February 2010 (EST)
                  • Yes, lets continue this conversation on the ability talk page. I'll try to add my thoughts there later tonight. Thanks, Ryan.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:58, 10 February 2010 (EST)

Enhanced vs Super strength

I will refrain from presenting arguments here, but the current consensus check is here. Thanks very much for weighing in on this. --Stevehim 23:46, 11 February 2010 (EST)

  • I added my comments regarding this to the enhanced strength page on Feb 11-12. Just noting that here now.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)

Precognitive dreaming

Quick naming conventions question. We have precognitive dreaming listed as a Level 1 canon source because Angela has stated that she can dream the future. In the most recent graphic novel, her ability is explicitly listed as "precognitive dreaming". This is more airtight then a description of "dreaming the future", but if we were to add the explicit gn reference in place of the descriptive episodic one, we'd move down a level on the naming conventions. So should we just leave it as it is or add the more explicit option?--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 16:49, 17 February 2010 (EST)

  • It should be referenced using the more explicit option in the power names template, as a more explicit reference trumps one of higher source.--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:04, 17 February 2010 (EST)

Hey, Miami. When you get a second, could you check out the discussion at this link? We're having trouble some of the namespaces recognizing subpages. Thought you might know what's causing the problem. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:45, 20 February 2010 (EST)

  • Not sure what exactly was the problem, but I saw the discussion and see that Admin has fixed it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:12, 21 February 2010 (EST)
    • It wasn't recognizing subpages in certain namespaces (iStory in particular). So there was no difference between the BASEPAGENAME, PAGENAME, and SUBPAGENAME. Worse, the link back to the basepage wasn't appearing. Yes, Admin took care of it. Thanks, though! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:28, 21 February 2010 (EST)

Bots

Hi Miami, are you familiar with bot programming? I need to move a large number of pages into the correct namespace over on The X-Files Wiki, I'm not very familiar with bots :P. If you could help with this or suggest a better method to do it, that would be great, thanks. --Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 10:13, 3 March 2010 (EST)

  • I know a little... a MediaWiki bot is I think what you want (not a web bot or a RC bot). A MediaWiki bot is essentially a user whose edits are hidden in Recentchanges until the user clicks on the 'show bots' checkmark. You then program a script (either in your browser or using the server to control the bot). Admin might be able to explain the process a bit better than me, as he is the only user with bots here on HeroesWiki. An alternative to scripting might be using Extension:Duplicate to duplicate the files you want in the new namespace. You might then be about to use Extension:NukeDPL to delete the old pages, if you no longer want them. Both extensions are beta, though, and come with some risk. I'm not sure how secure they are, so you may want to have a backup of the wiki if you use them, and do some testing on the how/if permissions are enforced (or otherwise remove the extensions after you are finished with them).--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:12, 3 March 2010 (EST)
    • Ok thanks, I'll look into it. It's not something that needs to be done urgently anyway. --Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 10:01, 4 March 2010 (EST)

Can you help?

Hey Miami, for my fan fiction Visions of Earth I've created an infobox for the ability pages. I've got a problem though, on any page that has a mainspace equivilent it is coming up with "Examples of (whichever ability)". Can you tweak the coding a bit so it doesn't come up with that please? If you can then thanks! :) By the way, someone may get to it before you seeing as I left a note asking for help on the template's talk page --Leckie -- Talk 14:42, 27 March 2010 (EDT)

div help

Hey, Miami. When you get a chance, could you take a look at Template talk:Assignment Tracker#navbar for me? I'm having trouble coding the div tags, and I figured you might know a bit more than I do on the issue. Thanks so much... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:13, 8 April 2010 (EDT)

  • I took a look at it and left a message on the template talk page a couple days ago, asking if there is a preference on how to proceed. I plan to give it a few more days to allow for replies, then edit the image next week as I suggested assuming there are no objections.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:30, 10 April 2010 (EDT)
    • Thanks, Miami. I saw the comment. I'd rather avoid using a collapsible table. There should be a way to make the div work. It's just about making squares and rectangles...but I can't figure out which section I'm missing... I'll see if I can tinkle with it today. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:30, 11 April 2010 (EDT)

Fan Creation

I don't mind it being in the fan creation portal just now. But a question I want to ask is, at what point does a fan fiction become a fan creation? Essentially, the movie is fan fiction, simply not in writing form. I mean, essentially, if I was to create a series of audio dramas based on it, would they be put into the fan creation? I've always considered fan creations to be things like Sarmy, and My Heroes Abilities, etc, which are based on Heroes but have no story connection to it. Anything with a story or plot should essentially come under fan fiction, shouldn't it? --mc_hammark 17:40, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

  • My view is that fan fiction is a form of fan creation, since a fan creates it. So film and audio creations should be considered fan creations, just like fan fiction writings. We have the Fan Fiction Portal in the Fan Creation namespace, which lists various fan fiction writings related to Heroes. The only difference with film and audio is the medium of the creation.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:12, 4 September 2010 (EDT)

A few questions for you

Hi, I left a message over at the administrators page but I figured I might get a faster response if I left this here too. I come from wikia's bleach wiki. Wikia is getting ready to change their skins which will cause many problems for us that will basically make use take out 95% of the content on our pages. We are considering moving to a different wiki system. I would like to ask what system you use here and if you like it or not? Also, how much does it cost per month? Thank you--Godisme 00:37, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

  • We use the standard MediaWiki server and a number of extensions, which you can view the details of on the Special:Version page. Regarding the cost per month, the site is maintained by Admin, who takes care of the domain registration and hosting on his server, so you would have to ask him for the specifics. I don't think he's taking any new clients, though; so depending on the size of your wiki, you might want to try a shared hosting site like Siteground.com. If you need help doing the move, you can also contact a helper like at WikiExpert.com.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:46, 29 September 2010 (EDT)

New Vandal

using the handle RGSlicksnuts http://heroeswiki.com/Special:Contributions/RGSlicksnuts is all the damage he's done. I've done what I can to revert things but it would be better if we could ban him.Tarot 21:44, 1 August 2011 (EDT) Oh and, Vandal? They know who I am, and they can see that it's YOU doing the damage so hiding behind me won't be of any help to you.Tarot 21:44, 1 August 2011 (EDT)

Hey

  • Hey there. It's been a while! :) (Admin (talk) 15:54, 22 October 2015 (EDT))
    • Sorry, I've been busy outside of wiki, but hopefully I can help out a little when I have time.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:19, 22 October 2015 (EDT)
      • No problem. Glad to see you back even on a limited basis. (Admin (talk) 16:22, 22 October 2015 (EDT))

Gif on Hachiro's power

Thanks for the screenshots, but I really wanted a moving gif. If you can't upload that here, upload somewhere else, like at imgur. Sandubadear (talk) 07:13, 8 November 2015 (EST)

  • Oh, you didn't say before that you wanted an animated/moving gif. Please accept the screenshots for here for now as that's what I intended to do. I will ask the administrators if an animated gif would be appropriate, and then perhaps someone else can help. I do see some animated gifs at 9thwonders.com that come from tumblr...--MiamiVolts (talk) 09:45, 8 November 2015 (EST)
    • I've asked Admin on his user talk page.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:50, 8 November 2015 (EST)

Making this Wiki Pretty Again

Hey,

So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my userpage, I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon.

Schedule:

After this, we have graphic novels, webisodes, ebooks, and ability pages to finish up. But this way, a lot of it can get done. If you can't help one week or something, that's okay! This is just to inspire you and others to team together to get this done, there aren't a lot of pages under each episode, so maybe we could bust it out in a week, but maybe not! What do you say, you in? ~~IHHTalk 14:06, 15 March 2016 (EDT)
