Ryan's appearances in film and television include, Ghost Whisperer, Without a Trace, Pink Eye, Bones, Sons & Daughters, The Hi-Line and Monk. For his lead role in The Hi-Line, Ryan received the Austin Film Festival's Audience Award for "Favorite New Actor". This performance was also selected for the main competition at the Sundance Film Festival. Ryan has also appeared in theatrical productions including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Waiting For Godot, The Crucible and Chicago.
