iStory

Hey. I know you set up the iStory pages, so I just wanted to give you a heads up about some changes I made to Anna's page. I removed the excess links to 'iStory,' and I combined the chapter links with the Operation ones to go directly to the chapter on the Operation pages. If you prefer it look the old way (and, looking at it, I'm starting to think it might look better prior to my changes), just undo my edits (or, if it's too late by the time you see this, let me know and I'll manually undo them myself). I'll hold off changing any of the other iStory pages to match this until I hear which version you think looks better. Happy holidays!  :) --Stevehim 07:43, 25 December 2008 (EST)

  • Looks great to me. Happy holidays to you too! (Merry Christmas as well if you're celebrating it like me). :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 10:14, 25 December 2008 (EST)

Just wanted to say

Thanks for all the work on the pages I created, it is much appreciated. With yours and ryans help i will hopefully get better :) --laughingdevilboy 18:19, 28 December 2008 (EST)

iStory information

hey, just wondering, considering you're the main person behind the updating of iStory information, why the iStory things can't go with the rest of character history? as far as i know, iStory is canon, and it would be better to have it put in the character history as opposedto in the evolutions section. if not, then shouldn't grapihc novls go in evolutions as well? Happy New Year! -- Tristan0709 talk 03:54, 1 January 2009 (EST)

  • Well, I agree with you about adding the iStory info. to the main part of the character histories, and have asked about making a separate iStory namespace like for the graphic novels, but I'm not sure if Admin has had time to consider the request. Until they get their own namespace, they should stay under the evolutions section and possibly even after it too. I would note that a point of contingency may be that though they both are part of Heroes Evolutions, the graphic novels are straightforward but the iStory is not. I mean, in the iStory, there are sometimes multiple paths you can take and still achieve the same or similar result. Also, when Heroes Evolutions came about and the graphic novels were grouped in it, the correct thing to do would likely have been to move all the graphic novel content into evolutions, but I'm not sure anyone wanted to go through that amount of work or that such as change would be desired now. If you want to discuss this further, you should do so at Talk:iStory and/or Talk:Portal:Issues.--MiamiVolts (talk) 05:11, 1 January 2009 (EST)

Webisodes order

I undid your changes to the webisode infoboxes for the order of the Recruit and Hard Knox. We are using the official order of release as posted at http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/news. —MiamiVolts (talk) 10:17, 3 January 2009 (EST)
Sorry i didn't know. Thanks for changing it back -- Futurepeter ( U - T - C ) 13:33, 3 January 2009 (EST)
I also added 'nextpart' and 'lastpart' to the Webisodes sidebar and to the related webisodes so that we could also have the functionality you wanted.—MiamiVolts (talk) 16:33, 3 January 2009 (EST)
I noticed it, that's great. Thanx! -- Futurepeter ( U - T - C ) 16:35, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Next iStory

Hello, MiamiVolts. I noticed yesterday that NBC has a new iStory announced now that Friend or Foe has ended. Where is that announcement placed on the wiki?--Citizen 10:05, 8 January 2009 (EST)

  • It should probably go on Template:LatestEvolutions. The info doesn't specify when the 'Coming Soon' is.--MiamiVolts (talk) 12:19, 8 January 2009 (EST)
  • Thought I'd give you a heads-up, latest iStory "The Private" is out. Not an iStory person myself, but it sounds alright. Apparently is centered around Rachel. -- Tristan0709 talk 00:32, 14 January 2009 (EST)
    • Thanks for the heads-up!--MiamiVolts (talk) 05:29, 14 January 2009 (EST)
      • I'm planning on writing recaps for this one, and I have a question. Since we have the player's name, do we refer to Rachel as Rachel or as the player? If so, what about when writing about decisions the player makes?--Citizen 22:05, 14 January 2009 (EST)
        • Go for it! :) I guess you could say at the beginning in a blurb that the player is choosing Rachel's actions for her. Just make sure it is clear in the synopsis as to when Rachel gets to make a decision. Did you see the recent movie Click? There's a good analogy to that movie where sometimes what Rachel does will be automatic (instinct) and sometimes she will get to think and choose what to do.--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:36, 14 January 2009 (EST)
          • Just finished recap and added a blurb at the end. Check it out and tell me if I'm iStory-worthy ;-).--Citizen 23:18, 14 January 2009 (EST)
            • Not bad for a beginner. j/k ;) It's a good summary, and I just fixed some grammar, now I need to fix the format. The way I've been summarizing the iStory, I've been only including the optimal history and moving the rest to a subpage. If we want to change that, we need to go back and change all the character histories and summaries thus far (but I don't think that's necessary or a good idea). In this case, the roof is advantageous since in that case Rachel is above any gas and can shoot at any militia that comes her way.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:52, 14 January 2009 (EST)
  • Another heads-up, the iStory chapter has continued. Pretty cool, but I guess we have a few more updates to do. --Radicell 20:51, 16 January 2009 (EST)
    • I know. Haven't had time to work on it yet. Feel free to start doc-ing if you want. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 22:37, 16 January 2009 (EST)

NextPart for GNS

Hey I just tried to implement your nextpart previouspart logic into the template and the War Buddies, Part 6 and 7 GNs...but it's not showing up. Any ideas on what I am missing? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/16/2009 14:28 (EST)

  • Please add your sig. Ryan said he didn't want nextpart/prevpart for the GNs so I didn't add it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:16, 16 January 2009 (EST)
    • How come? WarBuddies does the same discontinuity jumping as the Recruit does...and I think it is the lone GN that is disjointed like that. Shouldn't all multi-part arcs have the same consistent mode of navigation? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/16/2009 14:28 (EST)
      • My impression is that Ryan thinks that for the GNs it is sufficient to just note the next/prev part in the 'notes' section (where it has already been added) and not the infobox. You can read what he said exactly on his talk page.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:36, 16 January 2009 (EST)
        • OK, I reverted them. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/16/2009 14:48 (EST)
          • See our discussion here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:50, 16 January 2009 (EST)
            • The graphic novels are very explicitly numbered. The webisodes are not. We're using an RSS news feed as our basis for ordering them, I believe. They're listing them in the order they release them, so if two webisodes are released concurrently (as is the case with Hard Knox and The Recruit), different parts overlap one another. On the other hand, the GN infobox is already a bit lengthy as it lists so many credits--adding another line is not necessary, in my opinion. The "next part" of War Buddies (Part 7 actually takes many years before Part 6 and a little bit before the end of Part 5, so the true chronological order of War Buddies is 2, 3, 4, some of 5, 7, the rest of 5, 1, 6) is written in the notes. I'm not opposed to adding a line in the infobox, I just don't think we need it...especially considering that we've needed it only one time in three seasons, and that was during the writer's strike when the story was so disjointed and getting content to fans was like putting together a patchwork quilt. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:24, 16 January 2009 (EST)

DPL Columns

Hey, Ryan said you'd probably know how to split the DPL thing-y list of abilities on User:Tristan0709/Abilities into separate columns. Any ideas? -- Tristan0709 talk 22:40, 16 January 2009 (EST)

  • The simplest way is to use |columns=<# of columns> in the DPL. Just added it for you. The related help is here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:07, 16 January 2009 (EST)
  • You can also create a columned table manually using mode=userformat, but then the columns will not autoupdate when more abilities are added.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:10, 16 January 2009 (EST)

Gas Station

Gee, seems like I'm here a lot. Just wanted to say thanks for cleaning up mess over at the petrol station article. -- Tristan0709 talk 05:21, 18 January 2009 (EST)

  • No problem. Thanks for getting it started!--MiamiVolts (talk) 05:27, 18 January 2009 (EST)
    • No problem. I go through phases of fixing things on the wiki and today it was red links. -- Tristan0709 talk 05:30, 18 January 2009 (EST)

Assignment tracker typo

  • I let the powers that be know about it. They're going to fix it. (Admin 19:53, 28 January 2009 (EST))
    • Cool! Thanks for the heads-up. Can you ask TPTB whether this other entry will get fixed?--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:10, 28 January 2009 (EST)
    • Well, they fixed the Syn Anders one (the image now shows "empathic manipulation" as appropriate). Did you see my comment above about asking about the other entry?--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:20, 29 January 2009 (EST)
      • I saw it, but since it's only a grammatical issue (and even then only when comparing it to other names they've come up with) I'm not planning to bug them about it. (Admin 19:47, 29 January 2009 (EST))

iStory namespace?

Hey, after making iStories content separate from Heroes Evolutions content (ie separating its characters, locations, places, etc.) have we considered making an iStory namespace such as the Episode, Graphic Novel, and Webisode namespaces? That way, each iStory character's history could go under Character History instead of under Heroes Evolutions. I hope you know what I'm talking about, what do you think? --Radicell 08:30, 29 January 2009 (EST)

  • I have suggested it before (see here), but only Admin can add namespaces and he's been quite busy. If you want, feel free to point him to the related discussion.--MiamiVolts (talk) 08:55, 29 January 2009 (EST)
