- An office building
- Surrounding woods
In chapter 1 of The Agent, Rachel Mills participates in a training exercise in a gutted office building surrounded by woods. The building has mold on the floor and water leaking in the walls. As Rachel gets close to her target, she holds her breath. Her target appears to be a short Asian guy, who wears glasses and baggy clothes, dirty from the chase. Rachel then moves into the shadows of a hallway. Rachel then moves into the shadows of a hallway.
When the target stops briefly and scans the area, Rachel hides again before he can spot her. He kneels down and pulls a grill from the wall, and then Rachel steps out from hiding and shoots him twice in the head with her paint gun.
The agent screams in pain, and says that one shot in the shoulder would have been fine. Rachel replies that doing that wouldn't be good practice, and then the other trainees start coming out of the woods. Rachel is then congratulated by her trainer, Moore, who walks ahead of the other trainees and carries a stopwatch and clipboard. Some of the other trainees then cheer for Rachel, but everyone applauds. As everyone leaves the course, Rachel talks with one of the others trainees, Gibson, who comments he previously failed this exercise and that if he fails it again, he will likely have to leave the program. Rachel offers to give him some pointers, but he says he would rather she just tell him about her experiences in Iran again.
- In is unknown whether the office building area is a temporarily or regular training course, and for how long the course has been used.
- Rachel notes that she and the other recruits have been doing assessment exercises for the past forty-eight hours, but it is unknown as to how much of those exercises were held on this course.
