The bar at the bottom which says all the stuff like "Heroes Wiki logo designed by" and "Privacy policy" is somewhat residing in the middle of every page rather than the bottom. It's kind of annoying. I have a picture of it, but it's not uploading for some reason. |

Leave of absence
I hate to say it, but real life is beating me up so much that I don't think I'm doing a very good job as a Wiki admin. If you feel like transferring my powers to another user, I won't be offended. --Ted C 10:01, 2 January 2008 (EST)
- Will you be gone for a long stretch of time, or just not around quite as often as usual? (Admin 10:03, 2 January 2008 (EST))
- I'm taking some computer courses that are killing me. I'll be around, but not very active. Hopefully, I'll have the classes wrapped by summer. --Ted C 16:44, 2 January 2008 (EST)
- Good luck with the courses. :) If you're still around from time to time then I'll probably leave you set as an admin, but if I do remove you just let me know when you're back and I'll add you back. Thanks for the heads up. This way if things get tight we can bring on an additional admin, but until the WGA strike is resolved I don't see thing's being incredibly busy. Help
I don't know where to put this. But i am just looking to find out how to make a Profile. So if anyone would be nice enough to help me please do so.bobert
- One place to start is by checking out Template:User_infobox. You can copy and paste the text in the dotted box under Usage onto your user page and fill out some of the variables in order to get yourself a working infobox. (Admin 22:55, 9 January 2008 (EST))
- Thanks bobert

Sylar's Watch
Hi,
I agree that this needed discussion. I was reluctant to fully advertise it myself. I just wanted people to be aware that it does exist.
However, when my honestly was questioned by another member (something I completely understand) and a point was made about me not including a link, I felt obliged to do so.
What do you think is the best way forward? I would be happy if people just knew they were available and could search for them themselves. Obviously the eBay link will expire soon anyways.
Thanks! --Legasafe 14:11, January 18, 2008
- The default reaction when it looks like blatant advertising is to just remove the link which was absolutely the right thing to do (which I'm glad you understood). The text was well written and comes off as informative even if there's an advertising component to it. As a very popular Heroes site that people come to for information I think it could be useful to allow content like you added, though what I don't know is whether it should be within the Notes section or somewhere as an external link for instance. Since this is perhaps the first instance of such a thing I think it's best to discuss with the community and see what the consensus is. For now I just reformatted the link to make it less obtrusive, but if it gets removed again then it will need discussion before it's added again. (Admin 14:19, 18 January 2008 (EST))
- At the same time I think we need to be careful about opening the door where anyone with a Heroes product is free to link to it which ends up turning our articles into giant ad collections. I think it'd be nice if there's some kind of middle ground, but if not we may have to default to omitting anything that looks like an ad. (Admin 14:30, 18 January 2008 (EST))
- That's true. Well its up to the community I guess. I know I searched high and low for one of these. Does the heroes wiki have an article on the action figures? etc..? --Legasafe 14:35, January 18, 2008
- Yes, we do. So there is some precedent for including commercial links though I think so far they've all been for products sanctioned by NBC. We also try to minimize our risk by not promoting products that may infringe on US copyrights (regardless of the country of origin) which may or may not be an issue for your particular product. So, like I said, I think it would be nice if we could help promote items like this, but we'll have to see whether there are any issues with it as well as exactly where the information should be located in a given article. I expect other people will chime in at some point today. (Admin 14:39, 18 January 2008 (EST))
- That's true. Well its up to the community I guess. I know I searched high and low for one of these. Does the heroes wiki have an article on the action figures? etc..? --Legasafe 14:35, January 18, 2008
- I think having the information on the products is useful, but we shouldn't provide a link; people can quite easily just go on eBay and search "Sylar watch". --Hero!(talk)(contribs) 14:50, 18 January 2008 (EST)
- In that instance, what would be the difference between including the external link or not? Not including it just makes it more difficult to find information on something we're already informing people about in the article. (Admin 14:53, 18 January 2008 (EST))
- I have no problem with the note on the Sylar's watch page. I don't see a problem with including factual information about Heroes-related products that are not sanctioned by NBC, so long as it doesn't "sound" like an ad, and is written with objective language. Multimedia promotional items (like the trading cards and action figures) make good subjects for their own articles, I think. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:39, 18 January 2008 (EST)

- and they're true. I think the interviews you've done have been fantastic and are so original. I mean, I had no idea Nate's interview would reveal so many aspects of filming the show that I had no clue about for instance. I'm sure the interviews have been wonderful for you, too. I'm sure not only are you having a lot of fun, but when you started here you probably had no clue you'd eventually be talking with senior producers at NBC or talking with James Kyson Lee for instance. :) (Admin 21:01, 19 January 2008 (EST))

Cascading protection and DPL
I left a comment containing some questions about cascading protection on the Administrator Portal early this morning. Not sure if you're watching that page, so I'm bumping it here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:35, 4 February 2008 (EST)
- Yeah, I saw it. I don't have an answer yet, but I'm planning to check it out and get back to you. (Admin 13:36, 4 February 2008 (EST))
- And also you left it on the Administrator's Portal. All administrators are supposed to have that page on their watchlist, so you're pretty much guaranteed we'll see it. :) (Admin 13:37, 4 February 2008 (EST))
- Ok, cool. It was just that the lack of reply was giving me the wrong impression. ;)--MiamiVolts (talk) 13:41, 4 February 2008 (EST)
- No problem. I was saving my reply for when I actually had the answer for you. :) (Admin 13:44, 4 February 2008 (EST))
- You just left the message this morning. It wasn't marked urgent or anything, so I would give some people some time to read and reply. Besides, I was pretty clear in another message that I didn't know everything there was to know about cascading protection, so you're not going to get a good reply out of me. And considering that Hardvice, Bob, and Ted are not editing every day, it might take some time to hear back from the administrators who are editing more frequently. That said, I have the same questions about cascading protection, and would love to find out more whenever somebody gets the chance to research it. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:51, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Code for French version
Hi,
May you please add (if it is possible) "collapsible table code" and something to play youtube videos into the MediaWiki:Common.js (or elsewhere, i'm a "noob") of the french version ? Thank you very much ! Desperate July 07:49, 17 February 2008 (EST)
If you are busy, i may ask to someone else. Juste let me know who please ;) Desperate July 04:38, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- Desperate, do you not know which files to copy? It looks as if you're an administrator of the French version so you should have the permissions to edit the MediaWiki namespace.--MiamiVolts (talk) 04:51, 20 February 2008 (EST)
- Unfortunately, I don't know which files i have to copy and I don't know how... :( Desperate July 04:12, 22 February 2008 (EST)
- Ok, I added the code for collapsible tables for you over on the French site. Check out Help:Collapsible tables for info on how to use them. I don't think it would be good to add Youtube embedding since videos on Youtube typically violate copyright, so rather than including them on the site it's safer to just link to them. That way our sites aren't actually incorporating any material in violation of copyright. (Admin 13:19, 24 February 2008 (EST))
- Thank you very much for adding the code. Have a nice week ! Desperate July 03:20, 26 February 2008 (EST)

Making a forum for the site
This could be a horrible idea and you could absolutly hate it, but I know a place that let's you make proffessional looking forums easily. They even have a system that allows you to pick a domain name, such as http://forums.heroeswiki.com (this link goes nowhere). I thought that this could be a good idea for Heroes Wiki. It could let people have discussions about the show and the running of the wiki. --Thetobiasempire 20:09, 19 February 2008 (EST)-
- Hey, Thetobiasempire. It's not a horrible idea at all. In fact it's been discussed in the past as well. Discussions about the wiki really ought to remain on the wiki itself. The discussion pages are very good for that. We're also not too strict on the conversations that start on the talk pages (as long as it's at least relevent to the article in some way) so a lot of the ability to have a discussion is already taken care of. Where a forum comes in would be promoting something even less formal... a place where people could essentially just chit-chat and talk about anything Heroes related they wanted. As mentioned in that discussion I linked to earlier there, there are already a number of really good Heroes forums for people to discuss Heroes and I don't think a new Heroes Wiki forum would really be all that popular. As I say, I like that we can focus on what we do best which is running a wiki rather than trying to moderate a message board. Good suggestion, though. :) (Admin 20:17, 19 February 2008 (EST))
Google alerts
I have, as a conscious cyber citizen, Google alerts tell me when my name or my Pseudonyms show up on Google's search. Well, I get an email telling me that I have an account on adultfilmswiki.net It turns out that this is a redirect to this site. For the sanctity of my pseudonym, and the preservation of this site, anyone who could look into this, please do. Whois tells me they are registered to the same place... -Zeckalpha 00:39, 20 February 2008 (EST)

New series
If you are looking for new series to make a wiki for, there's a couple you might being considering:
- George Lucas's upcoming series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It should definitely have a solid fan base. Of course, there's already Wookiepedia which has been absorbed by Wikia, but since it's likely to premiere fall 2008/spring 2009, I thought I would mention it just to see what you and others think. Looks like it will be CGI/cartoon format, not live action. Also, it's only going to be on cable tv (cartoon network and TNT, which I don't subscribe to).
- The Knight Rider pilot movie aired a couple weeks ago, but it did rather well in the Nielson ratings so odds are up that the green light will be given for a show to premiere in the fall. There's been several incarnations of it and there is probably fan base for it. There's been a Knight Rider section for a while at Wikia, but Tim Kring wrote for the original Knight Rider and I wouldn't be surprised if he submitted at least a script or two for this one.
The "Big 5" networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX and NBC) should announce their fall lineup in May so we should know more then.--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:32, 27 February 2008 (EST)
- Thanks for the heads up. Yeah, I'm always trying to keep an eye out for the next big show like Lost and Heroes so I can consider setting up a wiki for them. I'm not going to touch anything Star Wars or Star Trek related with Wookieepedia and Memory-Alpha out there. :) Any new wiki based on those would be clobbered. Knight Rider is a possibility, but I want to gauge the interest in it first. If you see any new (particularly original) shows in the fall lineup that look like they're going to be hits, let me know. (Admin 16:37, 27 February 2008 (EST))
- Indeed. The fall lineups are scheduled to be confirmed by May, so we can check them out then. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:41, 27 February 2008 (EST)
- I've always thought a good guideline for a show deserving of a wiki would have less to do with how popular it is (though that's certainly important because you don't want a wiki that nobody will visit and nobody will contribute to) than how much detail there is in the show. Works like Lost, Heroes, Star Trek, and Star Wars all have such dense universes, filled with rich details and hidden Easter Eggs. Twin Peaks and the Harry Potter series would fit into this category; so would The Simpsons, actually, but for different reasons. I adore a show like Kyle XY, but the story is so straightforward that there is not really enough to delve into in a wiki. That's just my two cents. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 06:40, 28 February 2008 (EST)
- That's true, and cause the action then becomes so fast-paced it's harder to do documentation. We'll see what May brings soon enough.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:35, 1 March 2008 (EST)
- So we now know NBC's new original shows earlier than expected. NBC Universal lists 7 new dramas (My Own Worst Enemy, Knight Rider, Crusoe, Kings, Merlin, The Philanphropist, and The Listener). Here's their summaries along with what online content is planned for each (I combined two NBC Universal Media Village articles to make things easier):
1. MY OWN WORST ENEMY (click 'show' for summary):
---
Henry Spivey (Christian Slater, “Bobby”) is a middle-class efficiency expert living a humdrum life in the suburbs with a wife, two kids, a dog, and a minivan. Edward Albright is an operative who speaks 13 languages, runs a four-minute mile, and is trained to kill with his teeth. Henry and Edward are polar opposites who share only one thing in common -- the same body. When the carefully constructed wall between them breaks down, Henry and Edward are thrust into unfamiliar territory where each man is dangerously out of his element. “My Own Worst Enemy” explores the duality of a man who is literally pitted against himself. And it raises the question: who can you trust when you can't trust yourself? The series is produced by Universal Media Studios. Jason Smilovic (“Kidnapped”) is the executive producer; David Semel (director of the “American Dreams,” “Heroes” and “Life” pilots) is the director and executive producer.
Airs Mondays at 10PM EST, premiering Fall 2008. New content features will include an alter ego game, dossiers on supporting characters, an archive of Edward and Henry video messages to each other and a split site (suburbs v. international intrigue).
2. KNIGHT RIDER (click 'show' for summary):
---
On the heels of NBC's hit movie, the iconic 1980s television classic comes roaring back to life as an updated drama series showcasing the new customized KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) Ford Mustang. As the sequel resumes, KITT is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body -- thanks to its creator's work and nanotechnology -- is capable of actually shifting shape and color. It is the ultimate car -- and someone will be willing to do anything to obtain it. "Knight Rider" stars Justin Bruening ("Cold Case"), Deanna Russo ("NCIS"), Sydney Tamiia Poitier ("Veronica Mars") and Bruce Davison ("Breach"). David Bartis ("Heist," "The O.C."), Doug Liman ("Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "The Bourne Identity") and Gary Scott Thompson (“Las Vegas,” “The Fast and The Furious”) are executive producers and David Andron serves as supervising producer and writer. Based on characters created by Glen Larson, “Knight Rider” is from Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Productions.
Airs Wednesdays at 8PM EST, premiering Fall 2008. Fans of the show will find a "KITT" My Ride feature, weekly KITT voicemails to mobile subscribers, talking KITT e-cards and streaming full episodes.
3. CRUSOE (click 'show' for summary):
---
| Based on the legendary novel by Daniel Defoe, this is the tale of Robinson Crusoe. A young man leaves his true love to embark on an adventure -- only to end up shipwrecked on a remote tropical island for 28 years, completely detached from the life he once knew. His desire to return to his wife and his strong and unlikely friendship with Friday are the only things that keep him sane. While stranded, Crusoe encounters enemies and braves the elements. | 6. KINGS (click 'show' for summary): |
---
“Kings” is an inspiring exploration of the timeless David vs. Goliath struggle. The show is set in a modern metropolis under siege where the fighting has gone on for too long and cost far too many lives. When David Shepherd (Christopher Egan, “Resident Evil: Extinction”), a brave young soldier, rescues the king’s (Golden Globe winner Ian McShane, “Deadwood”) son from enemy territory, he sets events in motion that will finally bring peace. Suddenly, David is thrust into the limelight, earning the affections of women -- including the king’s daughter. When he’s promoted to captain, he becomes the reluctant poster boy for hope. But for David, the line between his allies and enemies will blur as the power players in the kingdom go to great lengths to see him fall. From the director (Francis Lawrence) of the blockbuster movie “I Am Legend” comes the ultimate story of David vs. Goliath, and there’s no telling who will win. Sebastian Stan (“Gossip Girl”) also stars. “Kings” is a production of Universal Media Studios; Michael Green (NBC’s “Heroes”) is the executive producer. Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend”) is the director and executive producer and Erwin Stoff (“I Am Legend”) also is executive producer.

Week-to-week, “The Listener” balances high-stakes drama with irreverent humor and sends Toby on an intellectual and emotional adventure. - My best bet for a Wiki thus far is probably Merlin since its an original storyline, will have some online content, and the fantasy realm it will involve could have a comparable range of characters to Heroesverse. My second choice is Crusoe since it will be an action-adventure comedy and has a cool historical context. It will be interesting to see if they include the storylines of Defoe's lesser known sequels, The Further Adventures of Robinson Crusoe and Serious Reflections of Robinson Crusoe, where Crusoe travels the globe--that would really expand the potential storyverse. Crusoe is also the only new show confirmed to have an ARG (they call it an interactive adventure game in the news release). However, both series sound like good ideas that are wiki-compatible (having a big enough showverse to warrant a wiki). Kings looks to have a large-enough verse but I'm not sure of my interest just yet. Other shows like The Philathropist and The Listener also sound like shows I might watch, but I'm not sure they will be wiki-compatible. On a related note, I am most disappointed in that again no graphic novels are planned for any of the new series. Merlin sounds like apt material for a graphic novel series with dragons and wizards, etc., and others like Crusoe and Knight Rider might also work. I hope the NBC execs are not too afraid to give it a try with another series. I guess we'll find out this fall.--MiamiVolts (talk) 02:11, 4 April 2008 (EDT)
Bot removal task
- When you have the time, can you have the bot go through this list and remove Category:Characters from each article?--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:35, 1 March 2008 (EST)
I was going through some of the special pages and found a lot of broken redirects, most of them are to Episode: and Graphic Novel: pages that do exist. It looks like they are older then the end of June 2007 (when the server was moved?). I don't know what would need to be done to fix them. -Lөvөl 03:27, 2 March 2008 (EST)
- If you edit them and re-save them, the broken redirect disappear from the list. Admin might know a better way to do it, perhaps by using the bot?--MiamiVolts (talk) 03:34, 2 March 2008 (EST)
Spring forward!
How come the server time hasn't changed yet? Hmm.--MiamiVolts (talk) 05:18, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
- The server time updated correctly at 2am. MediaWiki operates off of UTC so DST changes on the server don't mean anything to MediaWiki. You need to go into your preferences and update your timezone offset. Remember, timezones are a per-user perspective and the software wouldn't know whether you're in a location that recognizes DST or not, so it leaves it up to you to keep your offset from UTC up to date. Maybe eventually they'll just put a DST checkbox right below it so that it manages the transitions itself. (Admin 13:19, 9 March 2008 (EDT))
- Ah, did you change my preferences for me? It's ok now (I'm in the same timezone as the server and I observe DST) but up till my comment it had looked like it was still EST to me this morning, even after refreshing. So it's odd, but at least it's fixed now. Perhaps the refresh time of Special:Recentchanges is slightly delayed for timezone change for some reason. I realize those kinds of temporary bugs are hard to track down and fix, especially those that only happen twice a year.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:55, 9 March 2008 (EDT)
A new theories page
Hi, I've had another idea. This time, I was thinking that it might be good to have a discarded theory sction of the wiki. This could be a section of the wiki where all of the theories on the normal theories pages could go if the topic has been answered, or the producers of the show had shut it down. This way we could all look back in the middle of Season Five, for example, and see all of the things that we thought were going to happen in Season Three, and see if we were right. Sort of like a reference system. It would be set up so we could see, for example, all of Peter's discarded theories, just like the normal theories pages. What do you think? There may already be a page like that, but...--Thetobiasempire 03:16, 11 March 2008 (EDT)
- See Here. We did have such a page at one point, but it was ultimately deleted. -- Seclusion talk / contribs 03:46, 11 March 2008 (EDT)~
Activating TD and TH
Hi, I've got a new wiki on a wiki farm which will be for My Heroes Ability, and I was wondering how to actually activate the commands <td> and <th>. Any chance of gaining a few tips? --DocM 22:03, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
- According to Wikipedia's help, the td and th tags are activated by default (though you have to include them inside a table tag). If it's a version of the wiki software older than 1.10, make sure you tell the Admin of that wiki to ensure $wgUserHtml=true.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:05, 24 March 2008 (EDT)
Dr. Grody
I think dream doctor Grody deserves his own page for his Videos as well as life actor; look at the Baby-Design-Symposion: Redesigning Humans?. --Juba 09:01, 4 April 2008 (EDT)
Eidetic memory
- Hi there Admin, you recently removed my changes from the enhanced memory page, did i do something wrong? Anyway the whole idea came from the Heroes Magazine, which is official, they describe her ability as Eidetic Memory, maybe you will consider making the changes. In my opinion it sounds a bit better then "Enhanced Memory". --Futurepeter 14:06, April 28, 2008
- Hi! Check out Talk:Enhanced memory where there are already some discussions about the ability's name which also took into consideration the information in the Heroes magazine. (Admin 14:12, 28 April 2008 (EDT))
- Thanks for the reply. I like the comment that states, normal humans can have the ability of eidetic memory. I didn't read the Talk:Enhanced memory page and i agree it should be named "Enhanced Memory".

The Bottom Bar
The bar at the bottom which says all the stuff like "Heroes Wiki logo designed by" and "Privacy policy" is somewhat residing in the middle of every page rather than the bottom. It's kind of annoying. I have a picture of it, but it's not uploading for some reason.
