Next, Jason recalls how Rachel risked everything to go after Claire Bennet, noting to himself that he would have followed Rachel anywhere and that is what makes today so hard. Next, Jason recalls how Rachel risked everything to go after Claire Bennet, noting to himself that he would have followed Rachel anywhere and that is what makes today so hard. He is riding with Rachel down the highway in a rented car, the same evening as Howie Kaplan's escape. Rachel keeps quiet as she drives, not noticing as Jason glances at her. As they pass around the next curve in the road, Jason notices a motorcycle following them and getting closer.

Jason checks out the rider behind them and sees that it is a woman, dressed in black leather and helmet. Rachel spots Jason looking over his shoulder and comments that the rider has been pacing them. She asks if Jason has also noticed that, and he says that he has.
Jason checks out the rider behind them and sees that it is a woman, dressed in black leather and helmet. Rachel spots Jason looking over his shoulder and comments that the rider has been pacing them. She asks if Jason has also noticed that, and Jason tells Rachel the rider is with him.

Rachel asks whom she is. He tells Rachel that her name is Janey, and Rachel asks if she is an agent. Jason then explains that Janey doesn't work with them, but is in Army Intelligence, assigned to the Asymmetrical Warfare Group in Fort Meade. Rachel comments that Janey's people, whom she calls the "anti-terrorist terrorists", frighten her, and asks why Janey is following them. Jason then adds that Janey is his sister, and Rachel wonders aloud if this is what his family does in its spare time. Jason responds that his sister is doing him a favor, and Rachel asks what sort of favor she is doing.
Rachel says they will give her a surprise and see what she does. She drops the car into lower gear, then whips it sideways through traffic. As horns blare, something slams into the underside of the car, and then they wind up on a dirt road paralleling the highway. Jason notes that the rider isn't following, but Rachel says to wait a minute. She then drives the car into some brush in the woods and cuts the engine.

Jason says he will tell Rachel when they get back, and she replies that will be fine. However, in that moment, he catches Rachel staring into his eyes and realizes that she knows. Then, there's a soft pop and a flash and Jason is left riding in the car alone. He leans towards the wheel as the car swerves into the guardrail and screeches to a halt. He watches the motorcycle rider pass him on her motorcycle, then searches for any sign of Rachel around the car but does not see her. Jason then gets out of the car and stands on the traffic-browned grass next to the highway. After some trucks pass by, he yells that he knows she will not run and needs to know whom else he has told; but he only gets silence in reply.
Jason and Rachel sit in silence for a while, watching the road they were driving on. Then, Rachel catches Jason looking at her and asks what he was thinking. He says he was thinking about her, and smiles and begins to turn away. Jason then tells Rachel he would quit government service, kill for her, or even die for her. Rachel replies that is very romantic and creepy, but Jason ignores her and continues. He says that none of that would help her, and Rachel asks if he is talking about PTSD again. Jason then says he is not and the motorcycle rolls into view.

Jason makes his way to the treeline and watches for Janey to come back, when he hears Rachel talk from behind him. She asks Jason when he found out, and he turns around. He sees that Rachel is not aiming at him, but he raises his hands anyway in case Janey is watching. Then, Jason tells Rachel that he saw her fall off the roof with Howie and was watching from down below when she teleported with him. Rachel remains quiet, so Jason continues by asking if that was the first time.
Rachel draws her gun and prepares to leave the car, but Jason grabs her arm and stops her. He tells Rachel he saw her save Howie Kaplan, and she stays quiet. The motorcycle rider kills the engine, but stays watching them on her bike. Jason notes to himself that the rider is waiting like he told her to do, and Rachel looks at the rider and then down at his hand. Rachel tells Jason that he should know his hand will not stop her; and when Jason agrees, she deduces that the motorcycle rider is Jason's backup plan. Rachel asks whom she is, and Jason explains that the girl is Jason's sister, Janey, who is in Army Intelligence. He adds that Janey doesn't know about Rachel's condition, and is just there in case she tries to use her ability.

Rachel replies that she doesn't care if the rider sees, and is tired of keeping the secret. Jason responds that Rachel is lying and that she would die to keep her secret. Rachel replies that she might die, but would definitely kill for it. Jason responds that her comment is another lie, and explains how loyalty is Rachel's defining quality so she should let him take her in. However, Rachel interrupts Jason asking whom else he has told, and Jason realizes she is going to try and kill him. Jason then injects Rachel with a hypodermic needle and she collapses onto him. He stretches Rachel's body back onto the seat, and brushes a lock of hair off her cheek as the motorcycle rider walks up behind him.
Rachel responds, not with an answer, but with her own question. She asks Jason why he called his sister instead of Danko, and he explains that Danko knows there is a mole. Next, he adds that he told Danko that he would take care of the situation, and that he did not want any accidents. Rachel replies that she isn't a mole, but Jason doesn't let up. He tells Rachel he saw her rescue one of the "freaks", and she asks if "freaks" means her too. Jason doesn't deny it, saying Rachel has called them worse. He tells Rachel that he will stand up for Rachel, and that Danko likes her. Jason then begins saying how she should try to prove to Danko that she isn't dangerous, when she shoots Jason.

Jason covers his chest with his hands as bleeding slowly begins. He thinks how it hurts more than he ever thought it would, then collapses onto his knees. Jason remarks that Rachel really did it, and then he hears the rumble of a motorcycle engine approach. He whispers hoarsely for Janey to run, that Rachel will kill her. Then, a nearby female voice says that Jason is right and everything fades to black.
The rider tells Jason she thinks he has a crush on her, and he realizes the rider isn't his sister. He turns his head and she pulls off her helmet. Jason notices the rider is about 19, blonde, and cute with a shy smile. He guesses she is just a college kid, but she looks to be wearing Janey's gear so he asks whom she is. The rider smiles sadly and replies that she's a friend of Rachel's. Then, she raises a hand and Jason begins seeing gray.

The next morning, Rachel awakens in an abandoned hunting cabin where she has spent the night with the motorcycle riding girl she met. Jason's death is on Rachel's mind as she sits down at the cabin's dusty table. She recalls shooting Jason, and how he was so confident she wouldn't shoot even when she told him she would. She tries to rationalize the death since he tried to take her in, but begins wondering how could she be this way and him not see it.

The girl then interrupts Rachel's thoughts, asking if Rachel knew "him" a long time from her bunk. Rachel replies, asking whom the girl is referring to, and then lowers her face into her hands and begins crying. The girl responds that it is okay, and that this is the worst part. The girl continues that this is the transition, when Rachel becomes who she is in her head, and when others know who she is without her being scared.

Rachel then thinks that the U.S. government must want her for killing her partner, and realizes the only reason she is alive is because of this teenager she just met. Feeling relieved, she thanks the girl for being there to help her, and the girl replies that it is not a problem and begins recalling to Rachel a time when Claire told her something. Rachel interrupts the girl, saying that she has history with Claire. The girl responds that she know about that, and Rachel notes that the girl knows a lot but she doesn't know the girl's name.

The girl says she didn't think Rachel would ever ask, and comments that they knew she would come around. Rachel then asks whom she is referring to, but the girl says she can't told about that because that is how they got in trouble with Howie. The girl adds that Rachel really saved them when she helped Howie escape.

Next, the girl joins Rachel at the cabin's table and asks if she has heard about LAWR. Rachel replies that the government picked up some chatter about it, and the girl explains that she is the A in LAWR and that her name is Anna. The girl adds that she helps Ellen, but can't talk about that part. She then tells Rachel that Rachel has to go back to her organization, and Rachel responds if Anna is kidding. Anna says that REBEL told her that they need Rachel there now since things are so dangerous. Rachel then says that they could kill her on sight, and Anna says she is sorry but doesn't think Rebel would ask if it wasn't safe. Rachel thinks Anna's comment sounded almost like a question, but doesn't reply. Then, Anna says that she has a big test tonight she has to get to and Rachel agrees to leave with her.

Before they leave, Anna notes that Jason's sister, Janey, works for a special U.S. Army unit that plays dirty, and that REBEL thinks she might hunt for her brother's killer. Rachel replies that it will be okay, and jokes that she hasn't met an Army girl that could arm-wrestle. Then, Rachel says for them to get Anna to her test.<noinclude>
