Eric Doyle ("The Puppet Master") has been living a normal life since escaping from Level 5 and the Building 26 Agents. Working a nine to five office job, he has even managed to make a connection with fellow officemate Lauren. It seems as if his life is finally on the right path, until a certain Carnival makes its way to his doorstep...
Doyle is sitting in his office eating a doughnut, he remembers going to the carnival with Lauren, and also his date with Meredith. He recalls how a Game operator tried to cheat Lauren and Eric by using his ability. Eric tells him to "knock it off", but the game operator pretends not to know what he is talking about. Doyle forces him to pick a prize for Lauren, just as Samuel comes over and asks what all the commotion is about. Doyle tells him, and Samuel apologizes to him. The next day, Eric shows Samuel his ability by practising on Mac. Mac says that he couldn't stop "whatever it was" that Eric was doing. Joseph and Eric talk in a trailer, and Joseph tells him that his ability could come in handy with Samuel. Eric goes home, and Lauren appears at his door, and Eric asks her to go back with him but she tells him she doesn't want to be around people like that.
