Hiro Nakamura returns from the future with a message for Peter.
Character History
Hiros
"Future Hiro" travels back in time approximately 5 years to visit Peter Petrelli while on a subway train with Mohinder. Right before he arrives, time stops for everyone on the train except for Peter. Speaking fluent English, "Future Hiro" says he must hurry as he risks creating a rift. He tells Peter (who, according to Hiro, looks different without the scar), that he has an important message: Peter must save the girl in order to prevent "it all" from happening. As he leaves, he reiterates, "Save the cheerleader, save the world." He also tells Peter that when the present-day Hiro calls, he must tell Hiro where they meet.
.07%
Hiro and Ando, 5 years in the future, enter Isaac's apartment. Hiro hears a sword being drawn and draws his own sword, only to meet his future self face-to-face.
String Theory
In 2011, America is a police state where evolved humans are persecuted. Hiro saves Sparrow Redhouse from the police, then goes to Isaac's old apartment to examine a web of strings he has put up there. News clippings of important events hang from the strings. Hiro thinks about how he tried to change history by killing Sylar before he exploded, but Sylar lived because he had stolen Claire's power to regenerate. He goes back in time again to get Peter to save Claire, hoping that will change history, but nothing seems different when he returns. Seeing a light in the apartment, he goes there to find his past self and Ando inside.
Five Years Gone
Hiro Nakamura of the future is revealed to be America's most wanted terrorist; whose purported crimes include prison breaks and the destruction of a science facility in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is also a master of the sword based martial art Battojutsu. After explaining the nature of the timeline to his past counterpart and Ando, past Hiro is captured by Matt Parkman and the Haitian, prompting Future Hiro to seek out the help of Peter Petrelli. Future Hiro is gunned down by Matt Parkman, but past Hiro is able to escape to his own timeline with Ando.
Walls, Part 1
Roughly one year after the explosion, Hiro recruits Peter Petrelli's aid in freeing the near 200 prisoners of Moab Federal Penitentiary, many of which, if not all are evolved humans. Using their shared ability to stop time, they get past the guards and open the cells. However, before they evacuate all the prisoners, they are confronted by three Homeland Security evolved human agents.
Powers
Like the present-day Hiro, future Hiro can manipulate space and time in a number of ways. It's likely that he has far better control of his abilities than does present-day Hiro. It's also unclear whether Peter was not frozen because of Hiro or whether he was mimicking Hiro's abilities himself. If this is the case, that could explain why Hiro chose Peter as the recipient of the message. However, it's likely the former situation--that Hiro somehow included Peter in the time freeze--as Hiro was not present for a few moments before he appeared to Peter. If so, then future Hiro has displayed an ability which present-day Hiro has not.
Memorable Quotes
"Peter Petrelli..."
"How is this happening?"
"I'm sorry if I scared you. You look different without your scar."
"I don't know you, buddy."
"Not yet. My name is Hiro Nakamura. I'm from the future. I have a message for you. I don't have much time. I'm risking a rift just by coming here. The girl. You have to save her."
"What girl?"
"The cheerleader. It's the only way to prevent it."
"Prevent what?"
"Everything. Listen to me. She must live. The painter, Isaac. Go to him. He will know. When I call you, you must tell me where we meet. You told me many times how lost you felt before it all started. This... is what you've been waiting for. Be the one we need."
"Wait...Hiro!"
"Save the cheerleader, save the world!"
"Tell him about the guy from the future."
"He is the guy from the future!"
- - Isaac, Peter, (about Hiro) (Better Halves)
"You."
"Me?"
Notes
- Future Hiro's appearance is markedly different than present-day Hiro. He is wearing a black coat instead of a business suit, no longer wears glasses, and has a sword strapped to his back. His attitude is much more self-confident than his present counterpart and his English is fluent and without accent. Future Hiro also sports a ponytail and a small, "soul patch"-type beard.
- Future Hiro's appearance resembles Takezo Kensei's -- both have a "soul patch" and a ponytail.
