| At the carnival, Amanda encounters Sylar. |
| Amanda overhears her mother Lydia denounce her to Samuel. In her haste to find her own way at the carnival, Amanda befriends Caleb. After seeing what this new arrival brings with her, can his intentions be trusted? |
Summary
Amanda concentrates and successfully blows up a bag of flour, much to her delight. Caleb tells her that she is getting much better and informs her that there are people that she has to meet. They wander through the carnival and Amanda asks about Samuel and wonders if he can do weird stuff too. Caleb laughs and says that everyone at the carnival can do weird stuff and that is what makes it a safe place for them. The two of them are then frightened by Sylar, who nearly hits them with an axe. Sylar introduces himself to Amanda and uses his clairsentience to see her past. He advises her to go back to Lydia but Caleb is furious and tries to attack them with his ability. Sylar fights him off. Caleb returns to normal and apologizes before Amanda receives a message from Lydia.
Character Appearances
Notes
- Yang (from the Chinese philosophy yin and yang) literally means the "sunny place" or "south slope". Yang is often associated with masculinity, brightness, and activity.
- Foz McDermott said that he normally tries to follow the examples from his days working on Smallville and create titles that only have one word (like Cog or Boom). He liked the idea that Amanda and Sylar represent "the same side of the coin", and was going to just name the novel Yang. However, "a slew of penis jokes came to [his] head" and he decided against the name.
