As a dejected Hiro mourns his own lack of conviction and his broken sword, Ando continues to try and restore Hiro's spirits. In a comical turn, Ando searches the Yellow Pages for a repairman for the sword. Hiro jibes Ando about who he expects to find in the directory to mend a centuries-old relic, but Ando chances upon a sword-smith advertising with the symbol. With new found hope, the pair set off across the city to the shop of the mysterious sword-smith.
Back on the street, Mr Bennett and Clair finally get a chance to catch up. Mr Bennett is surprised to discover the relationship between Peter and Clair. As Peter convinces Ted that the two of them need to leave New York City before they do something drastic, Mr Bennett and Parkman continue their search for the tracking system. Clair, believing that it may be her destiny, decide to accompany Peter and Ted. Around the corner however, there is an unexpected eavesdropper with superhuman hearing: Sylar learns of Peter's plans to leave the city, and sees an opportunity to further his own gains.
As Nathan worries about his still-low standing in the polls, he also struggles with what he is being asked to do by Linderman. Linderman reveals to Nathan that the father of the Petrelli's was also an evolved human. Linderman attempts to consolidate Nathan's conviction by imparting a surprising gift: he heals Heidi and cures her lower limb paralysis.
As Peter, Ted and Clair commute the streets of New York on their way out of the city, Peter hears the thoughts of Sylar, and realises that that they are being tailed by Sylar, and that Sylar has learnt of Ted's powers. But before they can formulate a plan on what to do, FBI arrives on scene and arrests Ted. It turns out that Sylar had tipped off the FBI, but he has other plans than for Ted to be sent off to jail.
As Hiro and Ando races across the city, Hiro runs into Nathan. Hiro tells Nathan that in the future, Nathan is a villain. Hiro, convinced that the present Nathan is still a good man, tries to tell Nathan that he must help them try stop the bomb. Nathan disappoints Hiro, and Hiro realises that Nathan is already on his dark path.
Undeterred, Hiro and Ando continue to the shop of the sword-smith. There they meet the repairman, who is amazed by Hiro's possession of the ceturies-old sword Kensei sword. Hiro asks if the sword can be repaired, and the repairman replies that it depends on the decision of a third party who is also in the shop: Hiro's father, who steps out from behind the backrooms of the shop. Hiro's father asks for a private word with his son, but Ando's is wary that Mr Nakamura may be trying to convince Hiro to return home to Japan. Hiro tells Ando that he must hear what his father has to say out of respect, but Ando is unconvinced.
Up in the high-rise apartment, Candice still holds Micah prisoner. A strange relationship appears to be developing between prisoner and kidnapper, and the semblances of a friendship can be seen developing between the two. Micah asks why Candice doesn't use her powers to become a hero, but a jaded Candice dismisses Micah youthful innocence. Mr Linderman arrives on scene and asks for Micah's help with all his charm. He offeres the he will ensure Micah's family will be able to live happily ever after if Micah will help him "talk to machines".
Back in the repair shop backrooms, Hiro goes on to learn that his father had known of his powers all along, but had never been convinced that Hiro would have the right spirit to wield his abilities. Having observed Hiro's progress, Hiro's father is now convinced that Hiro is of true Nakamura descendency. Hiro reveals to his father that he may be wrong about him, recounting his failure to kill Sylar when he had the opportunity. But Hiro's father is not so easily disappointed, and reveals himself to be a master swordsman. He tells Hiro that he will teach him the ways of the sword, and surprisingly teaches Hiro into an accomplished swordsman in seemingly only a few hours. With renewed conviction of his abilities and of the steadfastness he must have as a true warrior, Hiro sets off to defeat Sylar, only to find that Ando had already left the shop. It seems that Ando, not having been included in the conversation in the backroom, had thought that Hiro would be unable to continue his mission to kill Sylar, and left to hunt down Sylar himself. Hiro's father tells Hiro that should Ando try to face off with Sylar, Ando will die.
Back amongst the frenzy of election day, Candice takes Micah to a polling station, and asks him to alter the votes electronically to give Nathan Petrelli a landslide victory. Micah completes his tasks and , exhausted, asks if he can finally go home. As amazed as Candice is with Micah's ability, she casts a look of sympathetic concern over Micah.
D.L. and Jessica track down Nathan in his office. Jessica confronts Nathan about not killing Mr Lindermann when he had the chance. The pair tells Nathan the Mr Lindermann will only seek to use Nathan as a puppet, and offer to kill Mr Lindermann when Nathan couldn't. Nathan eventually agrees to tell them where Mr Lindermann is, so long as they make sure that they finish the job.
Mr Bennett and Matt find the building housing the tracking system, and attempt to find a way to the top levels of the building. Encountering some difficulties despite Matt's use of his ability to get past the gate security, they meet D.L. and Jessica, who have also arrived in the buildings. Knowing they have common objectives in the same building, Mr Bennett convinces D.L. to use his abilities to get them all through the security doors.
Mr Bennett and Matt reaches the level housing the tracking system, but unknown to them, they are being watch on the security monitors by Thompson, who awaits to ambush them. Matt reads Thompson's mind and uncovers the ambush, saving Mr Bennett's life just in time. Mr Bennett returns the favor by killing Thompson with fervor. Having taken care of Thompson, they proceed to the room housing the tracking device, and discovers that it is Molly. Even having known all along that the tracking device was infact a person, Mr Bennett is surprised to learn that it is a mere child. Matt is livid, unable to comprehend that they are possibly needing to kill a child. In his state of surprise, he is knocked unconscious by Mohinder, who enters into a stalemate with Mr Bennett: Mohinder's gun on Bennett, Bennett's gun on Molly.
As night settles, Ted is being escorted out of the city in an armed police van. But someone is waiting for them, and Sylar top-ends the van with his telekinesis, and opens the doors to find an upside-down Ted held in position by his harnesses. Ted screams that he is hurt, and Sylar offers to help him, by cutting his head open.
Back in the high-rise, D.L. and Jessica pays Lindermann a visit. Lindermann reveals that he had arranged for D.L. and Jessica's meeting since the beginning, and had been watching them their whole life. Offering money to Jessica to kill D.L. instead, Jessica realizes that this is not what her other half wants, and returns Nikki to reunite with D.L. Fed up with the affectionate reunion and disappointed with Jessica's lack of ruthlessness, Lindermann pulls a gun to kill Nikki, but D.L. jumps in as a bodyshield and takes the bullet. As Lindermann moves onwards to kill Nikki, D.L. uses his last breaths to struggle to his feet and phases his fist inside Lindermann's skull and mushes his brains, killling Lindermann. Nikki collapses to his feet, cuddling a dying D.L. in her arms.
Nathan wins the election and in his official victory address, delivers a poignant speech; "they call it a landslide", he proudly announces.
The episode ends with a cut-scene to a roof top. There stands Sylar, expertly playing with his new-clear power. With a satified smile on his face and his eyes on the glittering city lights beneath him, he mutters to himself: "Boom".
