After [[Lydia|her mother]] sends [[Amanda]] a picture of herself, Amanda's emotions cause her to loose control of [[Spontaneous combustion|her ability]], setting her room on fire. The fire soon spreads to the rest of [[Carol Strazzulla's home|the house]] and the fire brigade and an ambulance is called to the scene. [[Amanda's aunt|Carol Strazzulla]] is hurt in the fire but is tended to by a paramedic, [[Peter Petrelli]]. In the hospital, Amanda worries that she will hurt more people with her ability, so she tries to escape from the hospital. She exits out the back of the hospital to find Peter eating a sandwich. Before she accidently sets him on fire, Peter runs a safe distance, exposing his [[Super speed|ability]]. The two share a joke about Amanda's ability before Peter gives her advice on how to cope with her ability and with her family. This advice helps Amanda to decide to find her mother. |

Amanda wonders who she can trust if her own mother does not want to see her. Suddenly, [[Spontaneous combustion|Amanda's ability]] activates and her room is set on fire. Amanda runs from the flaming house, thinking that now her life has changed forever. When the paramedics arrive, a horrified Amanda watches as her [[Carol Strazzulla|aunt]] is carried away on a stretcher. Amanda demands to know whether or not she is going to be strange. [[Peter Petrelli]] turns to her and tells her that she will be fine. Amanda then thinks that meeting Peter Petrelli is when her life changed. |

Later, at the hospital, Amanda watches her aunt sleep. The doctors tell her that her aunt was lucky and that she only received minor burns. Amanda begins to think about her family and how she never wants to hurt them again. Her fear and panic triggers another fire and Amanda runs outside the building to try and protect the people inside. When she gets outside, Peter is startled by the fire and [[Super speed|speeds]] to safety. Amanda shuts off her ability and asks how Peter was able to move so fast. He asks her how she was able to make the fire and Amanda tells him that she "doesn't know". She then confides in him that she cannot control her power and that she is afraid she might hurt someone. Peter advises her not to shut her family out and Amanda leaves, thinking that if Lydia will not see her, she will have to go and find her. |
