is it possible that when ando attacked the gaurds at Matt Parkman's house that he literaly overcharged their systems and short circuited them? Ando demonstrated a similar thing on a tazer in I Am Sylar. anyway if this is the case than I suggest a name change to simply supercharging which covers all aspects of his ability instead of just his power to charge abilities. --Tsmarg

    • well what I mean by short circuit is that he somehow generated a blast, electric or other, that was strong enough to short circuit a taser or even a human. Augmentative Energy Projection

Ando can clearly use his ability on objects(Close to You), not just to augment people' abilities. He can also projects a red "energy" with this ability. What does anyone this about this?--Realistic

Charging

I think charging could be an okay name for this ability. He "charges" abilities, "charged" Hiro's brain and that electronic device, and he "charges" red energyblasts. Dumb idea. Red lightning describes this even worse than supercharging as that's not all it does. It encompases too little of his ability.
Supercharging actually does fit his ability pretty well. He's been called a "supercharger" on the show numerous times, his ability does supercharge others' abilities, and he appears to supercharge the energy around his hands to create "red lightning". Very good point. How do you feel about a split though? It seems to me that they have very different abilities and when they amplify others' abilities it's done very differently as well. Their abilities were even given a different name. We have often said that characters who are "experts" on abilities on the show are more likely to name the abilities, as other characters are more likely to just make offhand remarks about them. I think I get how he does that: he charges the energy he would use to supercharge someone into a blast of energy that he can fire.       • I think this is more of a 'Jack-of-all-Trades' Power, in that it didn't appear to short-circuit the door in Close To You, but rather 'Data-Linked' it to enter the correct code. For the security door when they are fleeing, clearly he just fried it. But what he did to Hiro, I don't believe was just 'shocking' him, as there were no electricity burns on Hiro's head, he desired to restore Hiro's mind and used his Power to do that. I think he could do SO much more with his Power, if only he experimented and tried different things.   • Agree. "Ability supercharging" is not an explicit name (no one said "your ability is called <this>"), so a change is viable. From the recent episodes, it appears that his power is more to generate a blast of energy that can supercharge things: he can amplify abilities, activate electronic devices, jump-start memories, and harm people and destroy objects by overcharging them. Here are reasons why: Ando is able to charge people abilities: If you charge your car battery, mobile/cell phone batteries, or any other battery you put electically charge it. If this ability is to be split...

If this ability is to be split based on the fact that he uses the electricity more than the augmenting, then we cannot go with any other title but Red lightning. Not only has it been said in interviews that this is what they call his power, but they refer to his ability as red lightning very, very frequently in the show, in fact in the most recent episode about 3 times within 20 seconds. Name of Ando's ability

If I'm not mistaken, we've been given a few different descriptive names for this ability. I think it's been most explicitly given as "red lightning" (see Close to You). I believe it's also been called derivatives of "supercharging", but I'd have to check references to be sure. Anyway, I moved it to "red lightning" since that name was the most recent and the most explicit, as I recall. But we can certainly discuss moving it to another canon name.       • I think that's kind of a chicken and egg question. Not sure it matters or if there is an answer. As an aside, I'll note that normal lightning bolts actually flow from the ground into the sky once the path of flow has been established. So my theory would be that it's the same with Ando's ability--that the ability works the same for both specials and non-specials, and it's just something with the evolved human force in general that allows specials to draw out from Ando the type of energy needed to charge and not harm them. We do know that some sort of energy needed to be added to the formula to make it work properly.     • The first thing we saw Matt do was pull thoughts but then he was able to push thoughts; the reason we didn't rename that was because it falls under the domain of telepathy - essentially meaning "movement of thougths". There is no need for consensus here, since we normally go with whatever the ability is explicitly called--the ability has never been called 'ability supercharging' or 'supercharging' in the story, to my knowledge. I honestly always saw it as a nickname of the ability, not an actual name itself. Because that is the most common name/term used throughout the show whereas no one has every flat out said "supercharging". Only "Supercharger". So we have to go with Red lighting. Red lightning primary Power?

I just watched Pass/Fail (running a few days late, I know) and noticed right at the beginning that Mohinder shook Ando's hand goodbye... and nothing happened. Then I realised when they escaped the mental facility previously, Hiro touched both Mohinder and Ando... and nothing happened (well, except Teleporting...). The point I'm getting at is, either the Supercharging aspect of Ando's Power is gone, or he can choose not to do it anymore. I'd like to lean toward the latter, as I really like this aspect of Ando's Power. Thoughts? PowerSink 16:41, 21 January 2010 (EST)

Concensus?

  • I moved the article from "Ando's ability" without consensus--there is no need for consensus when descriptions have been given in the show. Likewise, we don't need consensus to name an article when there are multiple canon names. We need a majority. Both "red lightning" and "supercharging" (or some form thereof) have been said on the show. I moved the article to "red lightning" because 1) that was the more explicit of the two, 2) it was said by Ando, and 3) it was said the most recently. Either name is fine since neither was given with the explicitness of something like an Assignment Tracker file...but I personally think "red lightning" was the term preferred by Ando, so we should respect that, regardless of the reason Ando chooses to call it that. Even though it's grammatically inconsistent with our other ability names, 'supercharger' was used in the story, while 'supercharging' wasn't. I think that follows from the discussion on whether it was okay to change 'puppet master' to 'puppet mastery', where we did not have consensus to consider a derived name when we had one that was explicitly given to us.       • "Puppet master" was (unfortunately) given to us explicitly, so that's basically why that name hasn't been changed to something more user-friendly and grammatically correct. "Supercharger" wasn't said explicitly (Matt said it in an offhand manner, if I recall--almost a knee jerk reaction to what Ando could do), so I guess we can take more liberties with using derivatives. At least that's how I see it--but this is somewhat new territory for us. Personally, I'd just rather go with "red lightning". The more I think about it, the more it sticks in my head that that's the name Ando uses to describe his own ability, even if he's just describing the way it looks. The ability was chosen because Ando's a great friend, the "ultimate sidekick." Ando's desire in the moment he injected himself was to help Hiro. Ando's Ability

Don't know which name will fit on this "Red Lightning" or "Supercharging"

We first see Ando to augment or amplify or charge the ability of others (Matt and Daphne), and everytime he amplifies an ability he needed to supply them with the current and the ability returns to normal once he stops it. The status of the ability depends on the amount of current he supplies to the user, shown on the IStory where Rachel tells Ando not to charge her too much so that she can control the place where they will be teleporting.

I think his ability acts like an electricity, the evolved human was an appliance and the "one of us" people are the normal ones. An appliance can only be used if it was charge or being supply by electricity, on heroes the evolved humans can use their abilities normally but once Ando supplies them with electricity their ability grows, but his current was still dangerous to normal people like a normal electricity. --Dark Master 07:09, 25 January 2010 (EST)

Acting like electricity doesn't make it electricity. Superfluids are liquid, but that doesn't make them water. We don't call Flint's ability "blue pyrokinesis", we shouldn't call Ando's "red lightning", red lightning is even a naturally occurring phenomenon.     • I don't see why we should change it, Red Lightning may not be accurate, and it is a description but so was "The Haitian" the difference is Red Lightning is at least better than "supercharging" because I'm not sure how "supercharging" accounts for this ability in it's entirety, especially since Mohinder called "red lightning" and I.E. I kind of disagree with your comparison to this to "Blue Pyrokinesis" since the show has turned "Red Lighting" to mean it's own thing. Why stick with one name when we have another one that was more likely to be an ability name than the description of the ability.   • I still think Red Lightning is the proper choice. Not only has it been said numerous, numerous times on the show, it's been named in interviews too. The "Super charging" can be explained by the "lightning" aspect, in that electricity charges things.
