| Following a path and setting a course are two different things. |
| Meredith Gordon and her brother Flint have lead a checkered life. Meredith has lost and found her daughter Claire Bennet. She's most recently allied as a Company agent. Flint has become a career criminal and now is in league with Arthur's Pinehearst Company. What does it take to set a character on the road to being a Hero, or the road to being a Villain... |
Summary
25 years ago, a young Flint amuses himself by burning ants with a magnifying glass. Meredith approaches him and tells him that he'd better finish his chores before 'Daddy' comes home.
Later, inside their house, Mr. Gordon returns home and asks Flint if he has finished his chores, but Flint ignores him. Mr. Gordon, enraged, whips out his belt, but Meredith tries to stop him from beating Flint. The father tells Meredith to stay out of his way, triggering Meredith to manifest her ability for the first time, killing the father and setting fire to the house. Flint asks Meredith how she managed to do that, but Meredith tells Flint that he cannot tell anyone about this.
Meredith is then taken into custody by a social worker and her colleague. They explain to Meredith that she and Flint will be separated, for their own good. Meredith objects, but there is nothing she can do.
In 1989, Meredith arrives at a public records agency, and tries to find her brother. However, the agent there tells her that they cannot find Flint, much to Meredith's frustration.
Then, Meredith reads a newspaper report about her brother causing trouble. She finds Flint in Annapolis, MD, where Flint shows her that he has manifested his ability too - he can manipulate blue flames, which are apparently "extra hot".
