It occupies over 22,000 square miles (57,000 km²) in a typical Basin and Range topography. This desert is generally defined by the presence of Joshua Trees. They are considered an indicator species for the desert. It receives less than 6 inches (150 mm) of rain a year and is generally between 3,000 and 6,000 feet. Summer weather is dominated by heat — temperatures on valley floors can soar above 120° F and above 130° F at the lowest elevations but winter months bring temperatures dipping to below 20° F on valley floors, and below 0° F at higher elevations. |

About
Graphic Novel:Stolen Time
After killing D.L.'s crew, Jessica Sanders takes a ride into the desert to bury the three men.
Don't Look Back
Niki Sanders recovers from one of her blackouts. She finds a red Cadillac with the bodies of Linderman's thugs in the trunk. Niki and Micah follow Jessica's map to the desert, where Niki secretly buries the thugs.
One Giant Leap
Niki buries the bodies in the desert, but is surprised to discover the remains of a man wearing a skull ring.
Collision
At the Montecito Casino, Nathan Petrelli makes small talk with Niki, wondering what it would be like to fly over the Nevada desert.
Better Halves
Jessica admits to Niki that she buried D.L.'s crew in the desert and provided the map for Niki to follow.
Homecoming
Jessica buys a high-powered rifle from a seller in the desert.
Godsend
Ted practices his abilities in a cabin. He deliberately induces radioactivity in one hand, and then the other.
Peter Petrelli asks a travel agent about the Nevada desert. He recalls that nuclear bombs have been tested there. He buys a ticket to fly to Las Vegas to presumably prevent destroying New York.
Graphic Novel:How Do You Stop an Exploding Man?, Part 1
Hana Gitelman sends Ted instant messages, and arrives at his cabin. Hana abruptly receives communications that show Ted is in danger. Hours after she leaves, Ted is confronted by a military force.
Notes
- Hiro and Ando are dumped off in a desert location (Hiros). This may be the same desert frequented by Niki, Jessica, and Ted, but is more specifically the desert just outside of Lake Mead.
- En route to Utah, D.L. and Micah stop at the Littlefield Motel. More than likely, this motel is located in Littlefield, AZ, in the Mojave Desert.
Trivia
- Peter asks a travel agent about nuclear testing in the Nevada desert (Godsend). In actuality, the Nevada Test Site is a large area in the Nevada desert where at least 925 nuclear test have been conducted in more than 40 test series since the 1950s. The test site, larger than Rhode Island, is located about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
