Synopsis

In Claire's room, Claire brings Alex a sandwich. Claire offers Alex cash to pay for a train to Albuquerque. Alex protests, but Claire tells him he needs to listen to her to survive. Sandra calls Claire's name and walks in the room, wanting to know what happened to the $300 emergency money. Alex hides in the closet. Mr. Muggles discovers Alex's sandwich under the bed. Sandra asks what is going on. Alex makes a noise in the closet. Sandra finds him.
In Building 26, The Hunter asks Noah whether he's concerned about being unable to watch over Claire. He replies, "Claire's a big girl. She makes her own decisions. If she does something wrong, she can deal with the consequences." Danko announces that Peter and Matt are now primary targets. Nathan interrupts and insists that only non-lethal means of capture may be used. Danko says that because Peter put a gun to his head he is authorizing lethal force. Nathan then asks Noah for help, but Noah claims he wants to shoot them himself. An unnamed worker tells Danko they have a lead on Peter's location.
At Isaac's loft, Peter shakes Matt awake from his painting. Peter tells Matt that he has been painting the same thing over and over again, presumably in a futile attempt to figure out how to prevent the nuclear explosion painted on the floor. Matt says all he wants to find out is how to save Daphne. A computer suddenly turns on and Rebel sends a message giving them the location of Building 26, where Daphne is supposed to be held. Peter isn't sure Rebel can be trusted, but then Rebel tells them "they're coming" and that they should run. They leave the loft just before two agents walk in.
Back in Costa Verde, Sandra questions Claire about Alex. Claire tries to claim that Alex is her boyfriend, but Alex protests that he never touched her. Sandra realizes Alex is telling the truth and forces Claire to admit that she is hiding him because he has an ability. Sandra tells Claire that this is extremely dangerous, but seems far more upset by the fact that Claire lied to her again.
Sylar and Luke continue their "road trip." Luke tells Sylar that "parents suck." Sylar pulls over abruptly at an abandoned restaurant called "Big Jim's Franks & Fries" and starts prying off large wooden planks using telekinesis.
Claire apologizes to Sandra for lying, and Sandra continues chastising Claire for getting into another dangerous situation. She tells Claire that she is stronger, and knows more, than she and Noah ever suspected. She tells Claire that a surveillance van disguised as a pool cleaning service has been parked outside for more than four hours.
Claire says that she will think of a plan. Sandra says that she already has one, and that she is willing to help if Claire will stop lying to her. Alex votes in favor of letting Sandra help.
Peter and Matt are walking outside Building 26, planning their infiltration. Matt says he will have trouble using his power on so many people at once. Peter uses his new ability to copy Matt's, saying he can help. They bypass the security guards easily and get to the top floor. Peter and Matt break into the "operations" room and "convince" the operator to finish his lunch outside. Peter begins searching files that will show them where Daphne is. Danko announces that Peter and Matt are in "operations." He tells his subordinates to lock them out, but they tell him that someone else is hacking in. He demands that they shut the whole thing down. Danko rushes to find and attack Matt and Peter. Noah warns him not to. Danko runs into two security guards under Matt's control, both ready to shoot Danko. Noah says that Matt's senses are extremely sensitive while using his powers, so Noah activates a loud alarm to disrupt Matt's influence.
Sandra uses Lyle's history exam score (C-) as an excuse to confiscate his driver's license. Lyle continues playing his PSP. Sandra explains that she is going to use Lyle's license to create a fake ID for Alex. Claire tries to apologize for the family's problems, but Sandra tells her that it's not Claire's fault. Sandra hints that "maybe" there will be a divorce.
Luke asks Sylar what he's looking for and Sylar says only that "something happened here" and begins to remember 1980 when he played with his toy car in the diner and recalls his father receiving money from a man and woman before getting in a car and apparently killing Sylar's mother.
Alex asks Claire why she is helping him. She tells him they are an "endangered species." He tells her if things were different he would have liked to be her real boyfriend. She tells him she isn't "into the whole relationship thing right now." She explains that it seems like everyone who gets married has a divorce. He tells her he thinks it'd be worth it.
Sandra bursts in and tells Alex that the agents are coming and he has to hide. She shows them a secret space in the pantry where Noah used to hide secret things. Alex hides there while Rachel and another agent search the house but they are unable to find him.
Sandra organizes a distraction and gives Claire a head start in helping Alex, the agents chase them and they hide in a pool. While underwater Claire tries to go up for air and Alex uses his ability to stop her from drowning.
With Rebel's help Peter is able to copy incriminating evidence that would expose Nathan and the government's operation to the public and then he and Matt try to escape.
Rebel shuts down security for 30 seconds and gives them time to escape but Matt gets caught as he buys Peter time. Nathan then questions his mother as he believes she could be Rebel as she has access to all the information they do and that she could have organized someone to hack in, but she states she would not do that as he is protecting her from the government. Peter rings and demands that Daphne (who was moved to a medical facility) and Matt be set free or he will give the tapes to the nearest TV Station.
Nathan wants to hand them over but Danko has other plans, during the "set up" Noah lets Peter hear his thoughts that it's a trap and to fly away, but then the Hunter shoots him and he goes over the ledge but is caught by Nathan. Nathan says he let things get out of hand and that he is the only one who can fix this but Peter takes Nathan's power and leaves and exposes the government's plan to the public.
Danko and Matt are in a van and he tells Matt that his kind is dangerous and the world will know it as he straps explosives to him and leaves Matt in front of the Capitol building in Washington.
In Costa Verde, Claire and her mom talk. Sandra tells her she would "not want any other life but this one" and Claire goes downstairs only to be confronted by Doyle with a message from Rebel saying "Claire will save you."

"And we have some breaking news for you now. Rumors have surfaced that the U.S. Government has recently broadened the reach of the Patriot Act. Thanks, Brian. Well, tonight sources have provided our news bureau some startling footage taken directly from an unnamed government agency right here in Washington. Now, this video shows American citizens in hoods and restraints in what appears to be a clear violation of their constitutional rights. Is the government running a secret military organization with the authority to disregard civil liberty?" |
