Hiro tells Yaeko that "deer are messengers of God. If you tell one your wish, they can pass along the message."
While on a hike through Black Hawk Campgrounds, Linderman and Linda encounter a wounded deer. After Linderman heals its wound, the deer gets up and leaves.
Arthur recounts the time he spent with his sons. He remembers carrying a deer's severed head by the antlers. He also remembers shooting deer with his sons.
Erica notices a deer in her garden while talking to Richard. She takes a hunting rifle out of a cabinet, goes into the garden, and shoots it. She has a chef prepare its meat, but grows frustrated with the chef's methods and starts cutting it herself.
That night, a dinner is made from the deer's meat and is laid on a table in the Kravids' garden. Tommy and Erica sit down to eat it.
