Summary
In 1777, Adam Monroe and a ship of mercenaries are commissioned by the British to guard Port Arlesburgh during the Revolutionary War. Upon arriving in the harbor, they witness the town razed in flames. They pull a survivor from the water, and ask who is responsible, and he states that it is one man who did this, a man who cannot be killed. When they come ashore, they find the townspeople butchered in the streets.
Soon thereafter, they see the silhouette of a man standing tall and confident, brandishing a sword. Adam instinctively thinks this is the man. The man asks them what their business is and acknowledges to one of the mercenaries that he is the man who is unkillable and is responsible for all the deaths. The man introduces himself as Evan, and brags to them that he destroyed the entire town within an hour, and gives them the opportunity to leave now and the trespass will be forgiven. Adam meets the ultimatum by asking Evan if he still claimed to be the one who could not be killed. As Evan acknowledges the claim, Adam runs him through the stomach with his sword.
As Evan falls, they turn to witness their ship being shelled by cannon fire, and an unidentified army descending towards them. They engage in melee combat and the mercenaries are quickly overwhelmed. Adam finds himself abandoned and fighting alone, killing as many as possible without mercy. Suddenly, Adam engages another combatant and realizes it is Evan, miraculously returned from his previous mortal wound. They attack one another simultaneously, with Evan stabbing Adam in the heart with a bayonet, and Adam running Evan through a second time with his sword, this time through the spine. Adam thinks to himself that this is the fight he has been looking for.
