Oscar Gutierrez was Carlos Gutierrez's brother and the father of Jose Gutierrez. After the disaster that was June 13th, Oscar set up an underground railroad for evos to find refuge while also taking up the vigilante mantle of El Vengador. Oscar was an evolved human with the ability of enhanced strength.
Character History
Brave New World
Oscar finds Jose and Carlos talking outside Gutierrez and Sons about the evo vigilante "El Vengador" and Jose's idolisation of him. Oscar disapproves of this and also informs Carlos of his belief that he abandoned his family. Carlos leaves Oscar to tend to business when Pelon arrives at the shop.
Later, under the guise of El Vengador, Oscar uses his incredible strength to stop an attempted mugging. Disabling two of the muggers, Oscar is then shot by the apparent female victim. Before fleeing the scene, Oscar kills the woman by shooting a wrist-mounted knife into her neck. He then returns to his shop and is discovered by Carlos. As Oscar lays dying in Carlos's arms, he asks his brother to take up the mantle of El Vengador and carry on his work.
Odessa
Both Jose and Carlos console each other after Oscar's funeral before Jose is escorted away by Father Mauricio. Father Mauricio later reveals to Carlos that he was helping Oscar run his underground railroad to help other evolved humans. Carlos also discovers that Oscar's death was set up by James Dearing for interfering with his corrupt police activities.
Noah Bennet and Quentin Frady discover that Oscar was among a group of monitored evolved humans who were absent from the Odessa summit.
Under the Mask
Carlos uses the clues and tips Oscar left behind to identify Dearing. Jose reveals that he used to help Oscar with the books of the shop and that he doubts they will ever find his killer. Father Mauricio also attempts to stop Carlos from using El Vengador for vengeance rather than justice but Carlos remains adamant that he will avenge his brother's death.

Jose discovers that Oscar was El Vengador and also possessed abilities. Jose reveals to Father Mauricio his disappointment over Oscar's secret, stating his wish that he could of shared his own secret and be his sidekick.
Evolved Human Abilities
Oscar had the ability to exert incredible strength. He was able to use this ability to leap down from buildings as well as easily incapacitate various criminals.
