Character History

Odessa

In the game Evernow, a red samurai is dragged away by several bandits. Miko Otomo recognizes the red samurai's voice as her father's. With Ren Shimosawa's help, Miko follows the red samurai, fending off his captors. When she finally gets to him, she thanks the red samurai for the sword, but he says that there is still work to be done. The red samurai is quickly taken away against his will.

Game Over

Miko makes her way through Yamagato Tower in Evernow, the place she saw him being taken. Ren notices that in chasing the construct, Miko has reached a new level due to the different view outside of the tower's windows. Finally, Miko locates him in the upper levels of the tower facing a window, but the construct tells her that he is not her father but rather a creation of Hachiro's meant to guide her on her next mission. The Hachiro construct points to the Eternal Fortress off in the distance and tells Miko that she must rescue the prisoner inside, explaining that the Eternal Fortress is the only prison that can hold "the Master of Time and Space." After the Eternal Fortress is cloaked by Richard Schwenkman, the construct disappears, telling Miko that she has to finish this mission alone.

11:53 to Odessa

This construct that normally appears in red samurai armor resembles Hachiro Otomo.

In a café, a red samurai stares down at Ren Shimosawa. This samurai leaves and Ren follows him into a dojo where several other constructs are practicing a form of sword fighting with shinai bamboo weapons and bōgu protective armor. Inside this dojo, the same samurai has removed his helmet/mask and appears to resemble Hachiro Otomo. However, the samurai informs Ren that Ren is the only non-construct inside the dojo. He also tells Ren they "are sent by the real Otomo who is in the future", and that Ren's new mission is to travel to the future and save the dying Miko. This samurai construct then gives Ren the Symbol necklace, telling him that it is the key to a gateway in Odessa that can send him to the future. The samurai construct then walks past Ren and out of view. When Ren turns around to try and locate him, the samurai construct has disappeared along with all of the other constructs who were practicing sword fighting.

Company Woman

While making his way through Gateway with Emily Duval, Ren finds an elevator that he realizes leads to the core of the facility where Tommy Clark is. The two are unable to access the elevator, but Ren notices a knob with an indent of the symbol and places inside it the necklace Hachiro gave him. The necklace activates the elevator and Ren comments in Japanese "very clever Hachiro-san."

Project Reborn

Ren discovers that the necklace the construct gave him releases the evos trapped in stasis pods in the future, including the real Hachiro Otomo and the real Miko Otomo. Hachiro shows knowledge of his construct's actions, stating he chose Ren as Ren is the best gamer he knows and has the heart of a warrior.

Notes

  • The term "construct", as it relates to this character and the dojo students, likely refers to their being artificially constructed.
  • In 11:53 to Odessa, before Ren Shimosawa knows Hachiro's construct is wearing the red samurai armor, he calls the construct a "shogun", a term meaning military commander, as he recognizes the armor as belonging to a character from the game Evernow. It is unknown whether Hachiro Otomo has ever held any military rank.
