On August 10, 2008, Skywalkerrbf conducted an interview with Alex Fernandez, who played Captain Baldwin in The Fix.

Skywalkerrbf: Did you watch Heroes before you took the part? Do you still watch it now?

Alex Fernandez: Yes, I was a big fan of the first season of the show, and as such was very excited to get a chance to work on it.

Do you have a favourite character or episode?

My favourite character was Claude, The Invisible Man. It's hard not to like a character that has such an enviable ability and is also a misanthropic jerk. On the flip side, you've gotta love Hiro.

What was it like to work with Greg Grunberg?

My only scene was with Greg Grunberg as Parkman. I played a Police Captain who strips him of his badge. I also spoke a good while with Natalie Chaidez, one of the co-executive producers on the show. They were both friendly and accessible people who obviously enjoy their jobs. As well they should!

Did you have any lines which were cut from the final episode?

I'm just lucky they didn't cut the whole scene!

Did you enjoy working on Heroes? Was it different from any other jobs you have had?

What was different for me was to be on a show that I was currently very involved with as a fan. So seeing the sets where it all took place and meeting the people who were portraying characters I was really into was a new experience for me. But I happen to do a lot of television, so other than that it was a fairly standard job.

If you could have any power, then what would it be?

I've actually thought about this... I think despite the obvious desire to fly or become invisible, I would like to have the power to quickly assimilate knowledge on any subject or situation. The power to pick up a book and instantly absorb its contents would probably prove very useful.

Did you know that you were having your mind read when you were filming?
Now there's a funny story... Yes, I did know that my mind was being read. At the audition for the role, I had to actually speak the words that Parkman was pulling out of my mind since otherwise they wouldn't be heard (also if I didn't say them I'd only be giving half a performance). I just said them under my breath to indicate that they were thoughts.

On the day of the shoot we were rehearsing, and when it came to those moments in the scene, I once again spoke the words under my breath. after all, I need to rehearse the whole performance. Also Greg Grunberg wouldn't know his cue otherwise. Well, when rehearsal was done, Grunberg came up to me and said, "Hey, those thoughts of yours? That I'm reading? You don't say those." I explained to him that of course I know that I don't say those, but I wanted to rehearse them anyway so that I know what those moments should be like. He responded by saying, "Yeah, you don't say those." Now again, he couldn't have been nicer and was not rude about it in any way. Still I couldn't help but be a bit perturbed by this. My perfectly good reasoning was being ignored and I was assumed to be ignorant of the circumstances of the scene. However, I figured this may have happened before with some other actor who didn't watch the show and was ignorant of the circumstances of the scene, so I just sucked it up, did my job as well as I could, and went on my way.

I probably wouldn't even have remembered the exchange for long except that later... I visited the Heroes website. There I discovered that they had the episode I appeared in available with an on camera running commentary by none other than Greg Grunberg. Naturally I watched it, hoping to hear something nice about myself. But instead, when it came to my scene, he decides to tell a story about the dumb actor that didn't understand that Parkman was reading his thoughts! I'll get you for that Grunberg...
