Daniel Linderman was a founding member of the Company, who went on to become its chairman. Linderman also founded the Linderman Group. He was an evolved human with the ability to heal others.
About
Outwardly, Linderman appeared as an eccentric and genial elderly businessman. Behind this mask he holds for others, however, Linderman is quite ruthless, cold-blooded and an expert on manipulation. Linderman was able to track down and re-connect with his old Army friend, Arthur Petrelli. Later, Linderman, Arthur and ten others, were brought together by Adam Monroe. Working together, Linderman and the group used their abilities to help mankind, until the group effectively fell apart. Linderman made his own plans to help "heal" the world, working with Angela Petrelli to put a plan into motion to destroy New York City. The plans were foiled at the last moment, however, and Linderman was killed.

Linderman helps Nathan Petrelli in his run for United States congressman, even making personal phone calls and loaning money to him. Meanwhile, Niki Sanders owes Linderman two million dollars, which she cannot repay. Linderman eventually hatches a plot, sending Miss Sakamoto to Niki, telling her that the debt is off if she can seduce Nathan, who is staying at Linderman's casino, with hopes to get more money for his campaign. Niki eventually succeeds, and Linderman records the encounter, using the tape to blackmail Nathan if the need arises.
Six months prior, it is revealed that Arthur Petrelli, Nathan's father, was Linderman's lawyer. Nathan is asked by the DA to prosecute Linderman, which would look bad for Arthur. Before Nathan can do it, however, he and his wife Heidi Petrelli are hit by a black SUV, paralyzing Heidi. Nathan thinks they were hit by Linderman's thugs, and it was an attempt to get him to stop the prosecution. Shortly after, Arthur is revealed to have died, supposedly from a heart attack. In the present, Linderman's representative Aron Malsky retrieves Niki's debt from D.L. Hawkins, Niki's husband. In return, Linderman sends Malsky to release Niki from prison, after she had turned herself in for murder to protect her family. Malsky steals the money he had gotten from D.L., so Linderman hires Jessica Sanders, Niki's violent alter-ego, to kill Malsky.
After she does so, he tells her to kill Nathan, who is about to meet with Linderman, but cooperating with the FBI in order to expose him and kill him. Niki fails to kill Nathan, and so his meeting with Linderman takes place. Linderman puts on a cultured facade, promising that Nathan will win the election, and even heals Heidi's paralysis. He has Candice Wilmer kidnap Niki's son, Micah Sanders, and uses his power to win Nathan the election. Linderman's plan, as he reveals to Nathan, is to let Nathan's brother Peter explode as foretold by Isaac Mendez, wiping out half of New York City. This would eventually cause the country to unite under Nathan, through grief and fear.
After the election, Niki and D.L. find Linderman alone in his office, wanting to find Micah and make Linderman pay for taking him. Linderman tries to bribe Niki to kill D.L., but Niki rejects the offer. Linderman pulls a gun and fires at Niki, but D.L. steps in front of her and takes the bullet. As Linderman prepares to fire at Niki again, D.L. phases his hand into the back of the man's head, killing him.

More about Linderman's past is revealed. It's revealed that he was one of twelve founders of The Company. It is also revealed that Linderman was a disciple of Adam Monroe, who intended to bring holocausts and plagues against the rest of the world, to save it by "punishing humanity" and establishing a new power structure based around evolved humans. With Linderman's death, Bob Bishop was appointed chairman of The Company in his place.
The Second Coming
After Nathan Petrelli suffers an assassination attempt by Future Peter, he wakes up in a hospital to find Linderman standing before him. Nathan supposes it must have been Linderman who had healed him. He tells Nathan that the both of them are meant for great things.
The Butterfly Effect
Nathan is still in his hospital room. Tracy Strauss, a political adviser who looks exactly like Niki Sanders, speaks with him, offering him a job as a Senator for the state of New York. Nathan is confused, instantly recognizing the woman as Niki. Tracy denies any ties to her, claiming that she isn't Niki "in the slightest". Tracy leaves her card and cell number, and leaves the room. Linderman enters right as she leaves, causing Nathan to think that Linderman put Niki up to this. Linderman assures Nathan that Tracy was not Niki, but that it was fate that a woman so familiar-looking would offer Nathan "the chance of a lifetime". He urges Nathan to accept the offer, saying it's God's plan, and Nathan kicks him out of the room.
Later, Linderman plays chess with Nathan in his hospital room. Nathan tells Linderman that he won't let him manipulate him this time, Nathan's in control, and Linderman agrees. A nurse enters, telling Nathan to get some rest. He tells her he's in the middle of a game, and she asks if he's playing against himself, unable to see Linderman. Linderman informs Nathan that nobody can see him, except Nathan.
I Am Become Death
Nathan, now a Senator, is in his new office with Linderman. John Wellner, a staffer under Nathan, asks what type of desk he would like, since Tracy isn't answering her phone to make the decision for him. Linderman suggests one type of desk, but Nathan purposely chooses the type Wellner suggests instead. As Wellner leaves, Nathan confronts Linderman, not trusting him and finding it unusual that only he can see him. Linderman claims that Nathan's recovery and ability to fly are the work of angels, and claims that he only wants to help Nathan to eventually become president. He asks Nathan to trust him, saying that this is the path to salvation. Nathan remarks that it's not his own path, if Linderman's leading the way.
Later on, once Nathan has his new desk installed, Tracy meets with Nathan, giving him her resignation letter. She says sadly that after learning who she is, she knew what she had to do. After she leaves, Linderman tells Nathan that his path is to save Tracy, who is about to attempt suicide.
Angels and Monsters
After saving Tracy's life, Nathan begins to wonder how Linderman knew she was about to kill herself. Linderman continues to insist that he is helping Nathan follow God's plan. Nathan laments that he has a dead mobster instead of Moses's burning bush.
Linderman hires Daphne Millbrook, a woman with super speed, to recruit people such as Knox, Adam Monroe, even Hiro Nakamura and Matt Parkman, to their cause. Daphne notes how strange it is that she can never sneak up on Linderman, when her speed usually allows her to sneak up on anyone. She tries hitting him, but her hand goes right through him.
It is later revealed that Linderman's return is due to Maury Parkman, who has been using his ability to create illusions of the mobster and further Arthur Petrelli's plans.
Dying of the Light
Maury Parkman, appearing as Linderman, reinforces his order for Daphne to recruit Matt Parkman at JFK Airport.
Villains
Hiro Nakamura has a vision of the past, 18 months ago. In this vision, Arthur Petrelli throws a party for his family. Nathan Petrelli approaches Linderman, warning him that he will be arrested for all he's done. Linderman talks with Arthur alone, asking what to do, and reminding Arthur that Nathan will find evidence against them both if he digs too deep. Arthur calmly responds that he'll talk to Nathan, and if that doesn't work, he'll kill him.
Later, Nathan and Heidi are hit by a black SUV, paralyzing Heidi. Arthur had ordered Linderman to have this done. Arthur tells Linderman that Nathan survived the crash, and Linderman shows guilt and concern for paralyzing Heidi. He notes that another attempt on Nathan's life may seem suspicious. Angela overhears them talking, and she is furious at Arthur for wanting to kill their son.
After Arthur uses his telepathy to brainwash Angela into believing that Arthur's plans to kill Nathan was necessary, Linderman speaks with her privately, claiming he feels remorse for allowing Arthur to manipulate her so. He heals Angela's mind, freeing her from Arthur's control.

Linderman has the ability to heal others, which he has used on several occasions, such as:

- Dallas's gunshot wound.
- A deer's wound.
- Angela's "scarred" mind due to Arthur's telepathy.
- A wilting plant.

- It is unclear what role (if any) Mr. Linderman played in the death row inmate's confession to Jessica's crimes. (Distractions)
- Mr. Linderman's Vietnam War history is recorded in a partially censored file found in the Pentagon. In it, his codename is listed as "Austin".
- Mr. Linderman's exact age is unknown. However, Jason Badower says he remembers reading an email stating that Linderman was 18 years old in November 1968. This would make him about 56 years old in November 2006.
- McDowell said on his character, "The man is a healer. He has obviously got a wonderful side to him. He's wonderful with children, wonderful with pets. What more can I say about him? He's the life and soul of a party. He tells a good joke. He's a delightful man and the kind of person that would be a very fine uncle to your children. But having said that, there is a side to him which is a little bit dark, he has this power thing. And he feels that, and I'm not saying that I feel that which is what he feels obviously, is that the world is in such a state that the human race is so decadent and out of - is that me? - According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a "linder" is "a woollen waistcoat or undershirt".
- In French, the similar-sounding "lendemain" means "the next day" or "the immediate future".
- Mr. Linderman's office in the Kirby Plaza building is on the fifty-first floor.
- Even though Linderman is mentioned many times in Season One, the actor who portrays him, Malcolm McDowell, only acts in three episodes.
- Linderman owns a casino, meaning that he is incredibly wealthy. Ironically, the last word he ever says is "money".
- In German, the dried flowers of the tree "Linde" ("Tilia" in English) have healing powers.
- The German word "lindern" means to cure an illness or a wound.
