Ando Masahashi is a co-worker and friend of Hiro Nakamura from Tokyo, Japan. Initially, he is skeptical of Hiro's powers, but later shows much stronger faith in them. He also is a subscriber at Niki Sanders's website lasvegasniki.com under the username "Huggerz69", and jokingly dares Hiro to teleport into a women's restroom. Hiro later convinces him of his powers and to travel in the United States fulfilling their "destiny."

Four Months Later
Ando is now an assistant for Kaito Nakamura. As he brings Kaito his newspaper and coffee, he unknowingly bumps into Nathan. Ando and Kaito sit and talk about Hiro at Kirby Plaza, when Kaito discovers his death threat in the newspaper. Later, on Charles Deveaux's rooftop, Kaito orders Ando to get him a sword to protect himself. When Ando returns with the sword he is one moment too late, and the assassin carries Kaito off the building.
Lizards
Ando is on the roof of the Deveaux Building as NYPD investigates Kaito's death. An officer interviews him while Detective Matt Parkman talks with Detective Fuller. Detective Parkman approaches Ando to ask about the symbol. Ando explains its meaning, and that it is the crest of Takezo Kensei, a hero that Kaito used to tell stories about to Hiro. When Matt says he needs to speak with Hiro, Ando replies he needs to as well and walks away.
Kindred
Ando is playing games on his computer at the office. His boss, Mr. Egami walks in on him yells at him. Ando apologizes and his boss left. Ando then pulls out Kensei's sword from a drawer. He then sees a message on the bottom of the sword and Ando opens and reads the messages that Hiro sent him about his adventures with Kensei.

- Ando's screen name on Niki's website is Huggerz69.
- When Hiro travels back in time six months to save Charlie (possibly changing the timeline), Ando seems to be the only person who remembers the original timeline when Charlie did not know Hiro.
- Ando has a crush on Hiro's sister.
- Ando is a common family name in Japan. Traditionally, Japanese names are written with the family name first and the given name second. If Ando's name were written in this traditional manner, the character's first name would be Masahashi. However, since other characters refer to him as Ando, his given name is probably Ando.
- In Kindred, Anod's name appears in kanji as 安藤.
- One interesting thing to note is the fact that when Japanese people say the word "and" they generally say "ando" because of the kana sound system. This potentially leads to the joke (in Japanese pronunciation) "Hiro ando Ando."
- Ando became a series regular starting with Four Months Later, the first episode of Season Two.
