Greg Beeman is a television writer, director, and producer. He serves as an executive producer and director on Heroes. Beeman joined the crew as a co-executive producer immediately after the pilot episode. He was promoted to executive producer for the second season and reprised this role for the third season. He was asked to leave this position, and did not return for the fourth season of Heroes. He did, however, return years later to direct an episode of Heroes Reborn. Greg, a former storyboard artist, also wrote and illustrated a graphic novel for Heroes.

About

Before he began producing, he directed many TV episodes including ones from The Wonder Years and movies like Problem Child 3: Junior in Love. His first show that he produced was Nash Bridges. After that, he went on to produce, write, and/or direct for several other popular TV shows, such as JAG, Smallville, and Tim Kring's Touch.

Following his employment with Heroes, Greg went to work on Melrose Place. In 2011, Greg and Mark Verheiden co-executive produced Falling Skies for the TNT network with executive producer Steven Spielberg; the series, which has many science-fiction parallels to Heroes, also shares many Heroes crew members, such as directors Holly Dale, Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, Jeannot Szwarc, Seith Mann, Anthony Hemingway, and Adam Kane, cinematographer Nathaniel Goodman, and editors Donn Aron and Jon Koslowsky. Greg also directed episodes of Perception, Rizzoli & Isles (with Heather Cooney), Tim Kring's Touch (written by Rob Fresco and produced by Cathy Mickel Gibson, Dennis Hammer, and Lori Motyer, music by Wendy and Lisa, and casting by La Padura and Hart, among other Heroes crew members), Once Upon a Time (produced by Andrew Chambliss), Memphis Beat, No Ordinary Family, and The Defenders (with Stephen Tobolowsky).

Notes

  • Greg Beeman's name appears on a shrine at the explosion memorial.
  • Greg was once a storyboard artist. He often does a fast and rough sketch of a scene, then takes his conceptualization to Cesar Lemus who will redraw the storyboard with more definition. In fact, Greg illustrated (and wrote) the graphic novel Puppet with No Strings.
  • Greg is the first person to write and illustrate a Heroes graphic novel.
  • According to his blog, Greg loves "all things to do with the visual design of the show--so I spend a lot of my time with the production designer the directors of photography, and I enjoy overseeing the color timing of each episode."
  • According to Greg's blog, Allan Arkush often directs episodes immediately following episodes directed by Greg. This way, each of the two regular directors can focus on their own episodes, and will have more time to help out and oversee "guest directors".
  • Greg explained in a blog entry that NBC asked him to leave his position with Heroes. He said that the decision was ultimately financially motivated.
