Character History
Brave New World
Ren enters Miko's apartment, claiming to have found her address as part of a code for the computer game Evernow. He excitedly insists that she is an unavailable character, Katana Girl, from the game. Ren is a bit taken aback that she does not know him, given his celebrity status as a professional gamer. He leaves an Evernow game guide at Miko's apartment, hoping she will take him more seriously.
Odessa
Ren returns to Miko's apartment once more to find the door open and Miko gone. In the study, he finds a computer monitor displaying a fight in Evernow between Katana Girl and four black samurai. Seeing that she needs help, he logs into the game and joins her as a tiger-headed samurai, keeping the samurai at bay while Miko searches for her father deeper in Bandit City.
Under the Mask
Ren enters the Yamagato Tower looking for Miko. He observes Harris with Miko's sword and overhears him say that they're holding Miko in the conference room. After surreptitiously stealing an employee's badge, he proceeds further into the building.

Brave New World
In the eBook Brave New World, Ren plays Evernow, and beats the highest boss with what he thought was just a delaying tactic. Excited, Ren realizes he is the first gamer in the world to get this far. He writes down a message on the screen, and is amazed when the game won't work until he goes to the address listed in the message. The message also says to stay off social media, which is difficult for Ren since he "lived and died by the page views on his video channel".
