Hi! I'm pretty much new here but have been a follower of the site for some time. I've seen on several occasions now that the ad at the top of the page for Sprint, which is giving away a spoiler for 3x18. I myself like the odd spoiler here and there, but seeing as it's on every page (even those not with the Spoiler: prefix) I thought that kind of contradicts the spoiler policy. In the interest of those not wanting to be spoiler-ed I wondered if there's anything that could be done. I'd hate to see the site get avoided for fear of giving away spoilers! I come to you with a proposition, Ryan. Let's rewind a few years ago. Lost is about to air its season three finale. A fan comes into Lostpedia and posts a synopsis for the episode in the spoiler section. Spoilers get completely eradicated from Lostpedia. Back to the here and now, the theories on Heroes Wiki get stupider by the minute. Every time someone dies on the show, there's a "____ isn't dead" theory. Things like waffles, Mr. Muggles, Barbara, Harry Fletcher, etc. are unacceptable and must be put to an end...now. I don't even recall seeing a solid or plausible theory on this site. My proposition: to put an end to this dumb-founded dipshittery we see every day on the theory pages, the theories have to go. Skip to the last paragraph if you don't want my to read my rambling stream of consciousness. :)<p>One thing I never want to do is to go the route Lostpedia took and completely eliminate spoilers and theories from the entire site, just in an effort to curb such content. Any spoilers on the wiki regarding Seasons 5 and 6 will result in an instant and permanent ban." Wow. That would scare the bejeezus out of me as a newcomer so much that I wouldn't create an account. As a casual editor over there, I'm scared that I might accidentally post something that doesn't belong, and then get banned permanently with no individualized warning. And I'm saying that as a fairly intelligent man in my 30s. Then I think of all the younger people (and I mean teenagers and such) who might miss that warning, or might not understand, or might forget, or whatever, and boom you have people being banned left and right ([http://lostpedia.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special%3ALog&type=block&user=&page=&year=&month=-1 more than 20 this week!]). That's very much ''not'' the kind of community we're trying to build here.<p>Now I know very well how stupid some (okay, ''most'') of the theories are here and how people try to sneak spoilers in on nonspoiler pages. Part of the payment for building a community is that we expect everybody to be on different learning curves, and we spend a lot of time giving individualized instruction to spare those who might actually be trying their best. Maybe [[User:Admin|Admin]] has reasons of his own, but mine go right back to my teaching. There's no way I'll ever be able to teach one lesson to my class and expect every single person there to "get" it. I have to try a multitude of ways and try to reach a multitude of individuals, and it takes a buttload of effort on my part. But that's the way it's done. Teachers who try to "teach to the middle" or who expect everyone to fall in line perfectly have the lowest success rates.<p>So enough mumbo jumbo about teaching. Here at the wiki, we have a lot of stupidity that creeps into pages that don't get patrolled as often as others--namely the theory pages. (Spoiler pages, too, but mostly the theory sections of those pages.) It's rare that you'll see me visit those pages. In fact, I visited one today, and I think there was only one theory there, and it wasn't a bad one. But it was riddled with grammar mistakes, so I started editing. I could have gone on much longer and taken my editing to other theory pages, but I just couldn't bring myself to do that. Ugh. I generally stay away from those pages.<p>Yes, all pages at Heroes Wiki are supposed to be professional in nature. But some have gone so far to the other side that trying to bring them back to a level of professionalism seems like an insurmountable task. I know. My suggestion is either 1, stay away from those pages, or 2, work with one individual at a time to bring up the level of professionalism.<p>Now all that jazz having been said, there are a bunch of yahoos and idiots who will still be jerks and put stupid stuff on some pages. I've seen about a million theories about the [[drug dealer]] and [[Harry Fletcher]]. I don't have the energy--or desire--to go through the history and find out who did it, and then to give the person a proper warning. So it continues. (If anybody knows who the db is, please give them a kind but firm warning--and if they give you trouble, let me know.) <p>I know this is a superlong rant, but my point is to kind of give you the place where I'm coming from. I don't think getting rid of the theory pages altogether is a good idea, as it's a hook for a lot of people (myself included) to join the site. And just because there are a few jerks who hog the pages with inane theories doesn't mean we should cut off our nose to spite our face, so to speak. The theory pages themselves aren't innately stupid. It's the content that can be, and so it's the content that needs to be removed or modified. This should probably be discussed at the [[Heroes Wiki talk:community portal|community portal]], but maybe we need stricter guidelines for the theory pages (see [[Help:Theories]]). ** Yeah, I don't think adding those links on the main page is a bad idea. They're both wonderful resources, and I think publicizing them a bit more is a good idea. I'm not in favor of removing the DYK section. If it hasn't been updated in awhile, the remedy is not to remove it, but to update it. I noticed in Enigma when Dahlia & 2014 Cassie interact that Cassie isn't wearing the Renautas smart glasses. Also in Enigma during the last meeting between Dahlia & 2014 Cassie, Dahlia doesn't have ask Cassie to do anything about the lasers or the platform she can't jump to because it is to high.

Good call on the pseudo Daphne not being Daphne...the real Daphne showed up in tonights Target gallery. I will work on updating pics and stuff tomorrow on the gallery. I don't think we need to do any major structural changes since this really only affects Noah and maybe a handful of other characters. Instead, you have to take a screenshot of your computer, and then crop (and usually shrink) the image in an image editing program. * Not a stupid question at all. If you go to the [[Template:Assignment Tracker#Usage|usage section of the template page]], you'll see a template format with all the variables listed. Copy and paste that into a new page (if you're creating a fan page, you'll want to do it under your user namespace, so the title of the new page will start with "User:Sylar Fan09/TITLE" where "TITLE" is the rest of the article's name). Then fill in all the variables. Play around with it a bit to see what changes--be sure to use the "show preview" button before saving so you can see what it looks like first. To see an example, click on pretty much any of the pages listed [[Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:Assignment Tracker|here]] (or at least the ones that say "(inclusion)"). To edit a picture, you'll have to do that in an external program. I like Gimp. There's an option on gimp to change the levels of the colors. ** Back in the day, there were about six or seven wikis that focused on Heroes. Most of them have become defunct ([http://editthis.info/eclipsed/Main_Page here's one that's still around]). The one at Wikia is still around and is pretty current. They've taken some of our content (well, our images and our templates--[[Heroes Wiki talk:Community Portal#Other Heroes Wiki|see here]]), but I'm not too miffed by it. I've certainly taken a few templates from Wikipedia, and a lot of the images I upload come from sources like IMDb. Incidentally, Wikia has approached us in the past about partnering with them. * You're not doing anything wrong. When an article is moved, it creates a redirect. Once that redirect is edited, the article can't be moved back until the redirect page (or the redirect page that was edited) is deleted. That can only be done by an administrator. So the only way you can move an article over a redirect is if the redirect has not been edited. (At least that's the way I understand it.) However, neither the title "tar emission" nor "oil emission" has consensus. If you look under characters, it still lists the Haitian as a character (although we haven't seen him this season and I doubt we will). What I think is more interesting though, is the past characters, it lists: Maya as a past character, Meredith as dead (if you look under her profile it says her location is deceased), Flint as last seen in the Pinehearst building, but interestingly not dead. * The page that was created for the national guard character was virtually empty--no picture, no information, nothing. It was messing up the minor character portals, too. As soon as some more information is gathered on him (I'm working on it), we can recreate the page. Addressing a the macro story, there's nothing wrong with red links. They're good to have because they let us know which pages need to be created. In many cases, it's better to have a red link than to have an empty or subpar page written. Red links get more attention than stubs. Really, the only places I don't like having red links are on the [[main page]]. As for the podcasts pages, I'm not really writing those articles. I don't know much about podcasts, either. I don't care much one way or the other what happens with the articles. Differences in Gemini & Enigma

I noticed in Enigma when Dahlia & 2014 Cassie interact that Cassie isn't wearing the Renautas smart glasses. Also in Enigma during the last meeting between Dahlia & 2014 Cassie, Dahlia doesn't have ask Cassie to do anything about the lasers or the platform she can't jump to because it is to high.

  • I think keeping it as El Vengador is fine, since it was about both Oscar and his grandfather, as well as the idea of being El Vengador. It reminds me of the Evs Dropper comics in that way, in that Evs wasn't a single person either. Hey, so there is a lot still to do here for Heroes Reborn and I was wondering if you, me, and maybe some others would like to devote the next couple of weeks to getting it all up to speed. So I'm suggesting this week we really go hard on getting the episode pages done. Summaries, Plots, MQs, etc. You think we can encourage others to help us?

Hey, I realize this is kind of forward looking, but I was updating the Season History templates in case we get another installment and need to do a Reborn portion. I am having difficulties with three things: 1) When I type "Noah Bennet/Heroes Reborn" it does not take me to the button that says "New season summary page" 2) If I were to put it on the original page as {{season summary|season=Reborn}}, then the link appears as [[Noah Bennet/Season Reborn|Noah Bennet: Season Reborn History]] 3) On the top of the Season archive footer template, it will normally link to the previous season history if their is one and I can't seem to work it with the Reborn part Can you help me with these couple things?   • The "new season summary page" is set up to appear when the title "/Season" appears in the subpagename. I can make a workaround for the few individual pages. I don't think we need to do any major structural changes since this really only affects Noah and maybe a handful of other characters.     • Actually, I think the biggest issue is that there was a misspelling on the archive page. It said "Rebron" instead of Reborn" so I don't think it was pulling the info correctly...       • Oh, okay. I wasn't meaning that we do it now. It was mainly just to smooth the bridges later incase we needed to. It shows the category at the bottom of Noah Bennet/Heroes Reborn Category:Season Reborn Histories. I have tried to work around it, but I don't quite understand the if exist or page name templates and how I can utilize that to work. ~~IHH—Talk 07:48, 11 March 2016 (EST)
        • The "if exist" command just means that if the page exists on the wiki, do whatever it says to do. So something like {{#ifexist: Peter Petrelli | [[Peter Petrelli]] | Peter Petrelli }} means that if there is a page called "Peter Petrelli" on the wiki, link it. If not, don't link it. That command would show up as Peter Petrelli. Something like {{#ifexist: Foo | [[Foo]] | Foo }} would show up as just Foo. -- RyanGibsonStewart (new comment) 21:05, 11 March 2016 (EST)

Making this Wiki Pretty Again

Hey,

So with Heroes Reborn ending, we have a lot of stubs out there and frankly most of the new articles are incomplete (including episode pages). Therefore, I am hoping to inspire you and others to do this challenge with me. On my userpage, I have gone to all of the stubbed pages and separated them out by episode. Therefore, we can rewatch an episode and pay extra attention to these things that have stubs. So, my challenge is to follow this schedule to get everything listed under each category done. Hopefully if we all work together and can narrow down where we can help, we can finish this soon.

After this, we have graphic novels, webisodes, ebooks, and ability pages to finish up. But this way, a lot of it can get done. If you can't help one week or something, that's okay! This is just to inspire you and others to team together to get this done, there aren't a lot of pages under each episode, so maybe we could bust it out in a week, but maybe not!   • It's a great idea, and I love the amount of thought you put into this. I'll do my best to stay on schedule, but I can't promise anything. Spring is my super busy time of the year, getting ready for summer camp, wrapping up schoolwork, and getting my kids to all their sports activities.
