Heroes Interactive

Hey Ryan, Happy New Year. I'm not sure if you're back yet from your trip. But just in case, I'll be grabbing the interactive for tonight's show.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:42, 4 January 2010 (EST)

  • Thanks. Yeah, I saw the text message this morning, and was hoping you had gotten the transcript. I can't wait to check it out tonight when I watch last night's episodes! :) Thanks, MV. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:03, 5 January 2010 (EST)
    • I got it, and it's already posted. You can check it out at Heroes Interactive:Upon This Rock / Let It Bleed after you watch last night's episodes. They were rather fun to watch, so hopefully you haven't been spoilered too much. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:37, 5 January 2010 (EST)
      • Nope, no spoilers. The only thing I knew about beforehand was that there was going to be a character named Adam Malamut. Oh, and I think Jim sent me an email a few months ago asking if Claire and Nathan had ever appeared in a photograph together. :) Thanks for doing the transcription! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:21, 5 January 2010 (EST)
  • It's normally your turn this week, but I got the iSMS from tonight as a backup. So if you want, let me know and I can post it tomorrow and it can be one less thing on your plate this week. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:22, 12 January 2010 (EST)
    • Yeah, I have it...but my deadline for NBC is Wednesday, so if you took care of it, that'd be awesome. Thanks so much, Miami. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:23, 12 January 2010 (EST)
      • Ok, will do. Hope you have good luck with meeting your deadline.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:25, 12 January 2010 (EST)

Let It Bleed checklist

Hey Ryan, why isn't the checklist for Let It Bleed on the talk page?? ~~IHHTalk 18:00, 5 January 2010 (EST)

  • I'm not sure. The code is {{subst:newepchecklist}}. I'll add it now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:04, 5 January 2010 (EST)

Interview no go!

Interview with David H. Lawrence XVII at NBC/Sprint, 1/4/10

^ Doesnt work --SacValleyDweller (talk) 03:09, 6 January 2010 (EST)

  • I've done artwork for him and we keep in touch pretty well. If you want, I can try to set up an interview with him for Heroes Wiki if we haven't already.--OutbackZack 04:08, 6 January 2010 (EST)
  • Thanks, Sac. I fixed the link -- here you go -- it's working for me. If it's still not working for you, let me know and I'll see what else I can do. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:55, 6 January 2010 (EST)
    • Still no go, I click, and the resulting page reads "An error occurred while processing your request. Reference #50.f2f9443.1262800862.b8d5d3". Refreshing only changes the number. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 13:02, 6 January 2010 (EST)
      • I'm also getting an error.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:25, 6 January 2010 (EST)
        • Same, I comes up with " You don't have permission to access "" on this server. Reference #18.c65edd58.1262806225.960b775 " -- Leckie -- Talk 14:31, 6 January 2010 (EST)
          • Okay, I got it. Here. I think I was linking directly to the video rather than to the page with the video on it. Thanks, guys. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:43, 6 January 2010 (EST)
            • That page loads, but clicking on the image to view the video doesn't work. It gives an error.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:44, 6 January 2010 (EST)
              • That I can't help. I have the same problem on my laptop and my work computer, but not my home desktop computer. I honestly am not savvy enough to tell you what needs to be configured so it works. But that's the link to the page. It's a pretty nice (short) interview, if you find a way to watch it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:51, 6 January 2010 (EST)

    • Ditto on the congrats! Though, some concerns: this isn't interfering with/supplanting you're teaching gig, is it? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:41, 8 January 2010 (EST)
      • Oh, no, no. Teaching is, and always will be my main career. Working for NBC is a part-time job that I do after the kids all go to bed. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:43, 8 January 2010 (EST)
        • Awesome news, congrats! Keep in mind what I said here... :D --Radicell 00:47, 8 January 2010 (EST)

request a page protection

Hey ryan, hope you had a good holiday. I was just wondering if you could protect Jeremy's ability. As you are probably aware, there has been discussion over jeremy's ability's name. Some people have decided to change it without proper discussion. I've changed it back just now (though its status when you read this may have changed) so I think It may be a good idea to protect it from being moved. The same goes for linderman and ishi's ability, since th two abilities are like the two sides of a coin, if you know what I mean. Anyways, hope you had a good christmas and happy new year. --mc_hammark 19:02, 9 January 2010 (EST)

  • I can agree with protecting the page, but for the opposite reason. We don't have any consensus to change it, and it had an in-show source to name it. Going with anything but Healing touch is wrong.--Riddler 19:21, 9 January 2010 (EST)
    • Going with healing touch is wrong, cause that's a name given to a part of the ability, not the entire ability. Since there is so much controversy, the best option for now would be the only 100% correct name, which would be Jeremy's ability. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:24, 9 January 2010 (EST)
      • And in that case, Freezing is also wrong and needs to be changed to "Tracy's ability". Let's not talk about this here, bring it to the talk page. I put my opinion here in support of the lock, but had to note it was for a different reason.--Riddler 19:26, 9 January 2010 (EST)
        • If this means splitting the page between Freezing (as what James Walker and Sylar had) and Tracy's ability (most likely to be renamed as "water and ice manipulation" if it is), then that would be ok with me. I agree that the page should be protected against moving, but being listed as Jeremy's ability due to the controversy. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:29, 9 January 2010 (EST)
          • The name we've been given for Jeremy's ability is "healing touch". Whether it's right or wrong, or whether it only names an attribute or not is not the question. The name was given very explicitly in a canon source (as was Tracy's ability's name). The abilities have both evolved and the users have found new aspects of their abilities. We have never received confirmation that the names of the abilities have changed, though. This applies to Matt's ability, too, and I'm sure there are others. I can't always say why writers choose the names they do, and I don't always agree with the names that the writers give us...but the important thing to remember is that our job as wiki editors is simply to archive. The name "healing touch" was explicitly given to us as the name for Jeremy's ability, so that's the name that should be at the top of the article. All attributes, limits, functions, and descriptions of the ability then belong in the body of the article. I'm not going to protect the page at this point, but I will leave a message on the page's talk page explaining the information I explained above. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:16, 9 January 2010 (EST)
            • but that name is wrong and outdated. Noah even said that it changed, which is also cannon, is it not? And it also brings up the question as to whether linderman's ability is healing touch and the pages should be merged since that ability name is based off linderman's power, but here is not the place to discuss it. --mc_hammark 07:58, 10 January 2010 (EST)

You may have heard/seen the NBC show Chuck, well there is a "Chuck Wiki" and I am trying to help it. Is there anyway you could help make an appearance template thing like the one(s) we have here? I don't quite understand the code and how (after you click new ep appearance) it goes directly to that and I can't get any codes for that. Can you please help? Thanks! ~~IHHTalk 18:06, 10 January 2010 (EST)

  • Sure. Be more specific--give me links either on the Chuck Wiki or Heroes Wiki (or both) to show me what you want to do. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:52, 10 January 2010 (EST)
    • The appearance templates. And the codes.. ~~IHHTalk 22:41, 10 January 2010 (EST)
      • The appearance templates are just traditional old tables. We use template:appearancecolumn to separate the columns, but that template is just table code. We use template:appearance to format each line on the appearance templates (it's just a basic link template with a few things added in that we need at Heroes Wiki). Assuming the Chuck Wiki has all the same extensions activated, you should be able to just copy the code from the templates on Heroes Wiki and paste it into new templates on the Chuck Wiki. If you're still having trouble, let me know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:06, 10 January 2010 (EST)
        • Okay. Thank you very much! I didn't realize that it was that simple! I will give it a shot! ~~IHHTalk 23:40, 10 January 2010 (EST)
  • Hi Ryan, can you please help with the "characternav" template and the "episodenav" template? Both are leaving a bunch of brackets behind each template. The ep one doesn't hide the other seasons it is in. I know that there are many red links and im working on that slowly. Thanks! ~~IHHTalk 18:33, 24 January 2010 (EST)
    • I just removed some of the brackets from the character template. I don't see any extra brackets in the episode template. As for the collapsible tables, Wikia doesn't seem to support it. In other words, Wikia would have to upgrade their wiki software, I believe, to be able to have tables that collapse. There's nothing wrong with the codes, just with Wikia's software. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:42, 24 January 2010 (EST)
      • Thanks and I understand about the hide thing. I still thinks it looks fine, but I didn't know if you could fix it. Could you please look at the Template:Stubs (with the Sectstub too) one? I copied everything over and it won't work. I have two pages with the template and it works fine, but on the Category: Stubs, it isn't working. It says that there are none. ~~IHHTalk 21:19, 24 January 2010 (EST)
        • Sorry, I don't have time right now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:35, 24 January 2010 (EST)
          • That's okay! ~~IHHTalk 21:36, 24 January 2010 (EST)
    • Just FYI, collapsible tables probably don't require an upgrade of the wiki server code at Wikia. Collapsible tables are normally installed in-database by modifying a couple MediaWiki namespace articles that the wiki uses to parse articles in general. That said, you do need to be an administrator to edit the MediaWiki namespace.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:42, 24 January 2010 (EST)
      • Sorry to bother you again, but the Webisodes aren't working. Neither are the appearance templates for them. ~~IHHTalk 12:29, 29 January 2010 (EST)
        • Please be more specific. What exactly is not working? What should it be doing, and what is it actually doing? What would you like me to do? As far as I can see, the webisode pages are showing up just fine, and the appearance templates look like they're working on the webisode pages. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:31, 29 January 2010 (EST)
          • Well on the page "Webisode:Chuck Versus the Webisdes, Part 1", the sidebar isn't working. Neither is half the other templates, but I can work on that. But the appearance template for that, isn't making it to where you put in "Template:Appearance<insert name here>", the link isn't there. But that is simple. Because you can just copy it, but the section header isn't there. ~~IHHTalk 18:19, 29 January 2010 (EST)
            • It looks like the main problem is the template is missing the table code somewhere. I'm not sure where, but you'll need to add <table> somewhere at the beginning, and </table> somewhere at the end. You'll probably have to play around with it a bit to see exactly where the code should go. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:59, 29 January 2010 (EST)
              • Thank you for fixing the sidebar. Can you please look at "Template:Appearance" and tell me where I went wrong.. ~~IHHTalk 21:37, 31 January 2010 (EST)
                • No problem. Template:Appearance looks fine to me. I don't see what's wrong. It looks good on the list of character appearances, it looks good on the webisode pages, and it looks good on the individual appearance templates. What are you expecting it to do? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:06, 31 January 2010 (EST)
                  • Well there aren't any headers or individual "edit" links. The link thing is fine, but the headers are not.. ~~IHHTalk 07:17, 1 February 2010 (EST)
                    • You didn't have any of the code on those pages. I added similar code to what we have on Heroes Wiki and now it should work. You'll need to go to the page that lists all the appearances and remove the headings since they'll be double. I did two templates, you can do the rest. To see what I did, see this difference. Ultimately, though, I just added the following code to the top, and then closed the table on the bottom. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:11, 1 February 2010 (EST)

Naming conventions

Hey, I wasn't sure whether you were aware or not but there's a pretty intense discussion going on at the Help:Naming Conventions talk page. I was wondering whether you could make a brief statement there to ease the debate down a bit, as it seems to be going in circles. Thanks :)--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 22:16, 10 January 2010 (EST)

  • I saw the discussion. I'll take a look there a little later. Right now, I'm taking a break from writing an iStory, and finding spelling mistakes is easing my soul. Sometimes when I make a comment, it riles people up rather than easing the debate, but I'll head over there soon... :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:18, 10 January 2010 (EST)
    • I seem to be doing the opposite, contributing to debates while avoiding my literary analysis of The Great Gatsby :P. But thanks for adding it to your to-do list.--PJDEP - Need further explanation? 22:25, 10 January 2010 (EST)

I only stumbled across it because my spell checker was brining it up as incorrect, very strange indeed, :P - Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 23:11, 11 January 2010 (EST)

  • I did some looking into it after I made the change because I figured it was a spell check glitch or something. Actually, it's a British English-American English thing. In America it's spelled "judgment", but it Britain it's spelled "judgement". See here. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:18, 11 January 2010 (EST)
    • I thought there was an "e" in it :), had no idea it was spelt differently in America though, very interesting. - Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 23:22, 11 January 2010 (EST)

Mohinder Drugs!

As I am not a Wikipedia whiz, I thought I'd tell you that I think a page should be added for Mohinder's Sedative in the Drugs section. I don't know how to do it, so maybe you could propose this idea to someone more advanced in this area. Thanks! --Dan 23:15, 12 January 2010 (EST)

  • If you click on this link, you can start writing the article. It doesn't have to be perfect, just put what you think should be on the article. Others will come by to clean it up and edit it. Let me know if you need any help, Dan! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:19, 12 January 2010 (EST)
    • Alright. I will try...
      • Hooray! I think I did it! --Dan 11:18, 13 January 2010 (EST)
        • Looks good! I made a couple of edits, but you did a great job! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:03, 13 January 2010 (EST)
          • For future reference, how do I add the topic to the little blue bar at the bottom of the page? Like, for example, the one that says "Drugs" & then lists "Ability Negation Pills", "Adrenaline", etc.
            • The code is simply {{drugs}} and it goes on the bottom of the page. If ever you're not sure what the code is, just look for the code on the bottom of a similar page that has the bar you're looking for. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:43, 14 January 2010 (EST)

New template

Hey Ryan, I just created a new template here, is it okay? --Leckie -- Talk 15:11, 13 January 2010 (EST)

  • What's the purpose of the template? Couldn't we just put the information directly on Peter's page? Why do we need to use a template for it? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:56, 13 January 2010 (EST)
    • I thought that since he has replicated quite a few already, and since he is bound to replicate more, it would be a good idea to have. Seeing as we have ones for ones hes mimicked and been exposed to --Leckie -- Talk 14:03, 14 January 2010 (EST)
      • Ah, I see. I think it's okay just to put the information directly on Peter's page. I think the reason the other templates were created is because the information was needed for a couple of different pages. That way, only one page had to be updated, rather than several. I don't think that's the case with the abilities Peter has replicated. The content looks fantastic, but I don't think it needs to be on a separate template. You could just put the information directly on Peter's page, and then we can remove the template. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:41, 14 January 2010 (EST)

Ability negation system

Started the, in my opinion, loooong overdue article. Since it used both, Should it be clasified as drugs or Technology? --SacValleyDweller (talk) 00:20, 14 January 2010 (EST)

  • It looks to be a drug they use. I would classify it as a drug. The technology portal is more for gadgets, gizmos, and things of that nature. Thanks for starting the article! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:41, 14 January 2010 (EST)

Photographs/main characters

Something is effy with it again, in the template which links to the section, most of them are displaying and linking to Template:NBL again, that's happening only when PhotographsmainTOC is in the page, in its own page it works ok. Media template at the bottom also became a link. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 06:43, 14 January 2010 (EST)

  • Hmm, I see what you mean. I'll have to play with it to see if I can fix it. Ugh. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:52, 14 January 2010 (EST)
    • Okay, it looks like what's happening is that there are too many templates being used on the page. Not just templates directly on the page, but all the template:nbl, template:thingnavseealso, template:media, template:epp, and even template:ep. Lots. When that happens, or when the templates become too numerous, they stop working. The best thing to do is to take all the epp templates and to switch them to direct links. So when it says {{epp|101}}, we just need to change that to says (''[[Genesis]]''). It's a lot of work, but that's the only real way I see around the situation...unless anybody has any better ideas. (I'll put this message on the talk page so it's more public.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:22, 14 January 2010 (EST)
      • Is there no way at all to disable this template-limitation (perhaps tampering with some MediaWiki stuff)? --Radicell 09:10, 14 January 2010 (EST)
        • I've had a mess around and the problem seems to be the length of the template pages (i.e. the "ep" page). The page is so long that the photographs page is having trouble loading and searching through the template again and again. I've fixed the page now so we don't have to change every link but users just need to make sure they manually add the title as a link instead of using the template from now on. P.s the template limitation is in place because using so many templates on one page would just take so long to load that it just wouldn't be worth it. - Jenx222 | U / T / C | <inlcudeonly>08:00, 7 January 2012 (EST) 09:15, 14 January 2010 (EST)
          • Radicell, I don't know. That's really a question for Admin, or maybe Miami. That's not really my area of expertise, to be honest. :(

            Jenx222, thanks. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:39, 14 January 2010 (EST)

        • I added some of my thoughts to the related thread in Talk:Portal:Photographs. Radicell, I think there may be a way to increase the template limit by setting a variable in the startup file, but increasing the limit increases the amount of server time it takes to load a page so that's not really the best option. If this is becomes a problem with other pages using lots of ep or epp calls, we could probably create multi-level substitution-type templates that substitute in the value of the ep or epp call when saving the page. Then a simple replace all usage in notepad or another text editor could be used to change the ep calls to use the substitution that substitutes in the hard-code value. There's an example at Wikipedia:Help:Substitution#Includeonly. I've not had much success to get such substitution working, but I think it could be doable if we want to go that route.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:14, 16 January 2010 (EST)
          • It only affects a handful of pages. I'd rather just directly write the episode name than use template:epp, if the solution is really that simple. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:45, 16 January 2010 (EST)

Hi Ryan, how far back will the watchlist go? Because I'm going to be gone all next week, and would like to know what I missed... ~~IHHTalk 16:36, 14 January 2010 (EST)

  • If you get the changes sent to you by email you can see all the changes since you last visited the pages, and they only send one per page so your inbox doesn't get clogged up. This means it won't matter about how long the watchlist is. If that doesn't help theni'll pass you over to someone else. --mc_hammark 16:43, 14 January 2010 (EST)
    • So it won't go back ten days? (It's oly going to be six or seven, but I just threw a number out there) I know my email gets a notification every time some thing gets edited. But after five days, it gets clogged up so I didn't know if the watchlist would go back that far because I am the type of nerd that will sit there for hours checking each page!! ~~IHHTalk 19:12, 14 January 2010 (EST)
      • Are you worried there is an expiration date on how long a page will be watched? If not, then I'm way off topic, lol.--Catalyst · Talk · HL 19:30, 14 January 2010 (EST)
        • No, I want to look at each editted page and see the differences, like I do whenever I log in. I look at my watchlist first. ~~IHHTalk 19:34, 14 January 2010 (EST)
          • I can't get the watchlist to show more than 10 days worth of recent edits. Mc_h has a good idea though--if you set your preferences to "E-mail me when a page I'm watching is changed", then you'll have all the emails (which presumable don't get deleted from your inbox". Just thought I'd leave you a note that the public nominations for the Streamy Awards have been extended through Monday, Jan. 18th, 2010, 11:59PM PST. I updated my posting regarding it on the Community Portal talk page.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:33, 15 January 2010 (EST)

Hey Ryan, I've just been on to the Heroes Wiki Facebook page and noticed that it hasn't been updated or that in about 10 months. Is there any chance that it will be updated again, or is there just not enough time to do so. If you want then I'd be willing to take over it for you. Just thought I'd offer, cause there are still people who seem to come to it, ask questions and all that. Anyway, think about it. --mc_hammark 15:31, 16 January 2010 (EST)

  • I've noticed that, it was last updated (I think) when Dual aired in america, which i think is like April 08! As well as Mc hammark, I'd be happy to help with it. --Leckie -- Talk 16:05, 16 January 2010 (EST)
    • Yeah, I've kind of forgotten to update it. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:44, 16 January 2010 (EST)

Ability supercharging split.

There is a lot of support (mine included) for the splitting of the page to form Ability augmentation and Ando's ability. We've been waiting for more input from other users and an "admin's blessing." At the risk of having you rain on our parade, would you take a look from here down and give your two cents, please? Thanks. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 19:40, 17 January 2010 (EST)

  • Will do. And I actually agree with the split. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:41, 17 January 2010 (EST)

heheheh, an in joke

Hey ryan, i was just looking at the Heroes Wiki:Site Statistics page, and saw that there are 5 admins, which is 0.05% of the registered users. What do you think of making some more to bring it up to .07% ? lol, i'm joking btw... --mc_hammark 07:31, 18 January 2010 (EST)

  • Lol, I think there was a time when Ted was an admin that it was .07% once made me chuckle when I saw it. Can't remember when it was though :) --Leckie -- Talk 14:00, 18 January 2010 (EST)
    • :) To address your joke with a serious reply, it's important that we have a lot of good, strong patrollers. There's no limit to the amount of patrollers we can have, provided that the quality of their patrolling is high. (It's probably time I promote a few more...) But an administrator's job is really just to block users, delete pages and images, and change MediaWiki pages. There's never such a huge need for blocking and deleting or editing MediaWiki pages that just a handful of people can't take care of it. So having only a few admins doesn't really mean much more work for's the patrolling that is the real lifeblood of the wiki and requires so much work. We need to make sure we have strong patrollers who 1) have a good understanding of English, 2) have a good understanding of Heroes, and 3) have a good understanding of policies on Heroes Wiki. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:55, 18 January 2010 (EST)
      • Leckie is correct, I remember I mentioned that to all current admins at that point. Someone was rather slow to notice it when I pointed it out. Ryan, Miami or Admin, it was one of these three. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 16:03, 18 January 2010 (EST)

Hey Ryan, I just saw your change to your sig and followed the link you put in it. I watched the video of Jimmy Jean-Louis and thought I wanted to help. Thing is I live in England and I'm under 18, is there any way I can help? If you know that is. --Leckie -- Talk 15:00, 18 January 2010 (EST)

  • Same for me, i'm from the Netherlands and i'm 16 years old. -- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 15:16, 18 January 2010 (EST)
    • Leckie and Yoshi, if you do not have the funds to donate, you may be able to help by volunteering with your local chapters of the Red Cross. The British chapter of the Red Cross (see here) has special programs for young people. Yoshi, the Netherlands also has a Red Cross chapter (see here); not sure about their programs, but you can probably call or e-mail them to find out. If that doesn't work for you, you can also see if there is a local chapter near you of the Salvation Army.--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:17, 18 January 2010 (EST)
      • If you're on facebook and can't afford to pledge money, then join this group, the creator donates $0.05 of their own money for every member there is. --mc_hammark 18:36, 18 January 2010 (EST)
        • And here and here. The only thing is that you can't garentee that they will, but just for the chance they will. --mc_hammark 18:38, 18 January 2010 (EST)
          • Great links, guys. Thanks. The best thing to do is give what you can...and then encourage others to do the same. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:47, 18 January 2010 (EST)

Sullivan Bros twitter

hey Ryan, do you know if the sullivan bros twitter is an official nbc source. I asked them about joseph's ability and they replied saying that "In the same way some telepaths push thoughts, Joseph could push emotions." I just want to know if this would be a source for naming his ability. --mc_hammark 08:55, 19 January 2010 (EST)

  • Probably not. If it's not listed here (I don't see it there), then it's probably not somebody associated with the cast and crew. But even if it is somebody associated with the cast and crew, we don't know who it is, and not all sources are the same. For instance, if it were Tim Kring or Adam Armus running the Twitter feed, then yes, it would be a valid secondary source. If it were somebody like Dusty Sorg running the feed, then no, it would not count as a source at all. If it were Andrew Connolly, then we could discuss the source...but I'm not even sure it's a cast or crew member. :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:43, 19 January 2010 (EST)

Hiro's dream

I'm updating all the examples of abilities and there is some discussion about if we should add abilities from his dream. So, should we?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 16:47, 19 January 2010 (EST)

  • As long as we are clear that it was in a dream, I think it's fine to add it to the examples page. I'll leave a comment at the discussion page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:50, 19 January 2010 (EST)

Fire breathing

Hello there. There is some talk about the current Fire breathing image due to the blurry dude in the middle of it. So. I have uploaded an image (included) that doesnt have him, however, I am unable to get rid of the watermark. So, do you know anyone who could help to remove and resize? thanks --"The Listener" 02:50, 20 January 2010 (EST)

Enhanced synesthesia

There's currently a lot of debate going on with the name of Enhanced synesthesia. I was hoping you could give us your input before a new name is chosen. --OutbackZack 20:49, 20 January 2010 (EST)

  • Thanks for asking. I've seen the discussion and I honestly don't have a strong opinion on the subject. I can go back through the script for Close to You and see if there are any hints for a good name, but I don't remember seeing anything that stuck out at me. But as for the discussion, most of the names that have been suggested seem fine to me personally. It's when a name is given to us in a canon (or near-canon) source that I feel really strongly that we should use it. In Emma's case, we really haven't been given anything explicit, and barely anything in a canon or near-canon source, other than the writers hinting at some form of synesthesia. I like the name we have currently, but I wouldn't object to others. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:10, 20 January 2010 (EST)

I have the scripts for Close to You and Pass/Fail (and a few others in the future, but those are all but locked in a vault). I plan to go back and check the scripts for:

  1. clues as to a good name for Emma's ability
  2. clues as to where the town is that Samuel destroyed (specifically whether or not O'Mallory's is there)
  3. clues to when the timeline is set
  4. clues in Peter's precognitive dream as to whether sylar went to cut emma's head or raised his hand
  5. what does it say about Chris's fireball in his hand? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:20, 26 January 2010 (EST)

Anything else? Feel free add to the list above! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:14, 20 January 2010 (EST)

  • Quick note about the timeline--I think there have been some very overt and obvious references to the timeline being set in 2009. As for the wiki, that's not really the issue. The issue is that the timeline jumped--meaning we have unaccounted time (years, really) where things don't match up. If we follow the timeline from the beginning, we're somewhere in 2007 right now. If we use current information, we're in 2009. Saying that we're in one year or the other automatically negates canon information--since the canon information negates itself. Ultimately we have a situation where we have a contradictions between sources, in which case we simply can't include current dates anymore. :( However, I will look for any clues about the timeline regardless. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:49, 21 January 2010 (EST)
    • It would seem that Heroes took on a floating timeline like Marvel Comics have. --OutbackZack 14:19, 22 January 2010 (EST)
      • Yes, exactly. Many dates in the past are set, but the present is ever shifting. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:24, 22 January 2010 (EST)

Hey Ryan, I have a list of my user subpages, under this link, that I would like to be deleted. Can you do it please? --Leckie -- Talk 12:43, 22 January 2010 (EST)

  • They are under the subsection "Pages I'd Like to be Deleted" --Leckie -- Talk 12:44, 22 January 2010 (EST)

Ryan, you're on twitter aren't you, I was just looking through Oliver Grigsby's tweets and I saw (almost) your name. I'm assuming it's you then? --mc_hammark 17:48, 22 January 2010 (EST)

  • Yes, I'm ryangibsonstewa. Twitter won't allow me to put my full name, unfortunately. (I guess brevity is applied to posts and usernames alike.) I'm not very active, though... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:50, 22 January 2010 (EST)

Older Episodes

Once season 4 has ended and there is not much more new stuff coming out, do you think it would be a good idea if we went back to Season 1 and started from the beginning and do the episode checklists on them; I've noticed that a lot of them don't go as in-depth as we do now, so there may be some stuff we've missed. What d'you think, is it a good idea to do maybe one a week, or every two weeks? --mc_hammark 21:42, 23 January 2010 (EST)

  • Yes and no. I think it's a great idea to go back and make sure all old checklists are completed. However, we shouldn't go back and add longer character summaries--we actually need to trim down the ones that are really long. We've gotten into a weird trend of adding too much information on character summary pages. The detailed summaries belong on the episode and graphic novel pages. But I think in the interest of time, people have been cutting and pasting the long, detailed summaries from the episode pages and pasting them into the character pages. Not good. So yes, let's go back and complete incomplete checklists...but let's also trim down the summaries that are too long. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:51, 23 January 2010 (EST)
    • I agree 100% that we need to trim down the updates. It is crazy ~~IHHTalk 15:29, 24 January 2010 (EST)

Nathan's man?

Shouldn't those links point to Thompson's man? --Radicell 00:19, 24 January 2010 (EST)

  • I thought that too, unless he appears and is credited in another episode? Does he? --mc_hammark 07:50, 24 January 2010 (EST)
    • Yes, they should. I think I was getting confused because the actor's name is Nathan. Sorry for the mix-up. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:32, 24 January 2010 (EST)

User:Mike the Man-child!

This user seems to be having problems on the wiki, he keeps leaving comments on Talk:Adam Monroe. Take a look at the history and you'll see how confusing he's making it. --mc_hammark 15:21, 24 January 2010 (EST)

  • I think MtMC is referring to a role-playing game or fan fiction that he wrote, which has something to do with Adam being resurrected with phoenix mimicry. Confusing, yes...but I don't think he's having trouble with the wiki. Feel free to leave a message on his talk page, if you are bothered by the messages. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:29, 24 January 2010 (EST)

Unused files

I just started an big project: Put AFD at all the unused files. But i got one question, does it really makes sense? Because there are 577 unused files and if i put AFD at all the files, and if you guys (Admins) dont delete the files. What is the purpose?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 15:35, 25 January 2010 (EST)

  • Well, having 577 files to sort through will take a long time. We usually just nominate a few at a time. One thing you should do before adding the afd tag is to check to make sure that nothing links to the articles, not just check to see if they're unused. If they're linked to but unused, they should be added to Heroes Wiki:Used files. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:56, 25 January 2010 (EST)
  • And btw, what do you think about this page? Should it be moved to mainspace?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 15:53, 25 January 2010 (EST)
    • I'm not a fan. It's cool to have, but not for the main namespace. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:56, 25 January 2010 (EST)

Yesterday you added three carnys to the carnys list. I made the pages and you went through the usual patrolling of them. I noticed you knew the names of the actors and actresses, but should we take screenshots of all of the carnys we can get good ones of? Cause I've noticed a few faces in a couple of different episodes, and was just wondering if I had to know who the actors and actresses were before making a page? --mc_hammark 15:55, 25 January 2010 (EST)

  • Taking screenshots is a good idea. I'm building up a network among the actors who portrayed the carnies. (I just found another: Erlene Garcia.) When I find out the actors' names, it'll be nice to already have a picture ready to go. At worst, the pictures can be deleted in a few months if they're not used. But no, I don't think we need to know every actor's name to make a page. We have a page about Mrs. Comey, and we don't know who portrayed her. Soon we'll have a page for Pearl, and I still don't know who portrayed her. However, I don't think we need to go crazy--let's set an unofficial limit that we only make pages for carnies if we know the actor's name, or if they appear in multiple episodes. Sound good? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:02, 25 January 2010 (EST)

House of Mirrors

Hey! I want ask you if I could move to the mainspace this page. --TanderixUTCR 20:43 (Italy) Januray 26, 2010

  • Yes. I don't have time to look at the quality of the page, but it absolutely deserves to be in the main namespace. I was thinking the same thing last night. We can check the quality after it's in the main namespace. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:53, 26 January 2010 (EST)

Archival footage

This idea came to me when I was looking at the list of character appearances for the most recent episode. I think we should italicize characters who appear exclusively in archived footage. This will save some people the disappointment when they're about to watch the episode and find out through the article that old characters will be returning in it, and it just helps make the lists more specific. We could include this and bolded names in a key at the bottom/top of the Character Appearances section. What do you think?--Citizen 16:41, 26 January 2010 (EST)

  • I don't mind, but do people really read the appearances page and then go watch the episodes? I thought that page was just a page to collect all the appearances. It's not a bad idea, though. Either way, it should probably be discussed on a talk page like Talk:List of character appearances by episode. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:33, 26 January 2010 (EST)
    • No offense against any one, but I think that this is a stupid choice. Especially when you go to the talley of webisode/gn/istory and the people who havent appeared in episodes are italicized. I just dont agree... sorry ~~IHHTalk 20:45, 26 January 2010 (EST)
      • Can you rephrase that, please?--Citizen 21:27, 26 January 2010 (EST)
        • I'll start the discussion here so you can continue discussing it in public. Thanks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:39, 26 January 2010 (EST)

Carnival on Facebook

I do not know if you knew, but the Carnival has a Facebook page that you can become fans. On this there are many images like a beautiful image of the words "The barcher" and the image of Samuel, or a better written "The Tattooed Lady" with an image more beautiful. There are also two images of Samuel's triler, one with the words "Tickets", one in the back of the Carnival with a large piece of wood with a compass and a one with the entrance to the room where Lydia does (was) its activity. Can be taken from Facebook and post them here or not? I do not know if it violates some law or something like that. --TanderixUTCR 19:27 January 28 2010 (Italy)

  • Thanks for letting me know. You can absolutely post those pictures here. Be sure to call them promotional images. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:06, 28 January 2010 (EST)

Noah's carnival notes?

Hey Ryan, I'm wondering, should a page be made for all the notes that Noah has collected about the carnival? If it doesn't need to be mainspace I'll probably just create it in my namespace. Just wanted to know what you thought. :) --Leckie -- Talk 15:25, 30 January 2010 (EST)

  • Yeah, why don't you create it in your user namespace, and we'll see what it looks like. It could be a great place to collect all the details and trivia about his notes--that would be the strength of the article. Thanks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:43, 30 January 2010 (EST)
    • I forgot to tell you, I created it here. It obviously needs quite a bit of work, but can you help out with it? --Leckie -- Talk 15:47, 3 February 2010 (EST)

When i make an cast or crew page, i often use the word "besides" (like this: Besides Heroes, Rick also starred in several films including...). I just noticed that you sometimes replace besides for in addition, is besides bad engelish or something? I dont know for sure because Engelish isn't my native language.-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 13:10, 31 January 2010 (EST)

  • No worries, and thanks for asking. It's fine to use...but it's more of a personal preference that it doesn't start a paragraph. It's not poor grammar, I think it just sounds funny to my ear to start of with "Besides". :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:13, 31 January 2010 (EST)
    • So, what shall i use in the future?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 13:50, 31 January 2010 (EST)
      • You can continue using "Besides", but somebody (like me) might change it, just as somebody might change what I put. :) But I think a better alternative would be something that's not necessarily formulaic. "Soandso is best known for his work in..." "Before working on Heroes, Soandso was featured in..." "After graduating from NYU, Soandso kickstarted his career by appearing in..." "Soandso has appeared in television shows such as..." Those are a couple other examples. Hope they help! (By the way, I think you're doing a terrific job!) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:54, 31 January 2010 (EST)
        • Ok, thanks for you're help RGS :)-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 13:55, 31 January 2010 (EST)
          • What do you think about this page?-- Yoshi | Talk | Contributions 14:23, 31 January 2010 (EST)
            • Excellent. A few notes: don't capitalize "office worker" in the middle of a sentence. Check the format for her birthdate and for her birthplace. Other than that, great! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:31, 31 January 2010 (EST)

Template: Evolutionscast

Hey Ryan, I think theres a problem with the template. When I create a new cast page and they are evolutions cast I add them to the template, but there name doesn't show up in bold when you are on their page. However when you are on another evolutions cast page, the other persons name shows up just fine. I have no idea how to fix this, as I'm not amazing with templates, so I thought I'd tell you. --Leckie -- Talk 14:38, 31 January 2010 (EST)

Automating portals

I see you began automating portals, and like you, I've also added sortname parameters in the characters who didn't have it. I saw that if we automate the portals, we will no longer be able to make a distinction of when a character died. While that still works for non automated portals, characters who died in later seasons are also listed as deceased in previous ones. For example, Maury Parkman is listed as deceased in the Season Two minor characters' portal, as is Kaito in the Season One minor characters' portal. That's a non-issue if the "list as deceased only from season of death onward" applies only to main and supporting character portals though. Anyway, I had to point it out. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 16:40, 31 January 2010 (EST)

  • I thought the same thing. Really, that "rule" was made so we wouldn't have to go back and update old portals when somebody dies. Also, I think it's a small price to pay for automation--I can't tell you how many mistakes and how much outdated information was found in the manual portal. Images that hadn't been updated (like Lynette's), peoples' names that have been changed (like Officer Smith), and people missing altogether (like Adam Soo Hoo). But I think we can still keep the spirit of the "only mark people dead in the season they died" rule in the navbars. Thanks for bringing it up. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:48, 31 January 2010 (EST)

Yes, oh wow I'd be honoured! --Leckie -- Talk 17:04, 31 January 2010 (EST)

  • Actually, how far back does patrolling go? I mean, I know after a while edits become unpatrollable but after how long is that? I'm probably spelling honored (see it hasn't) with a "u" because its the british way :) That can be easily sorted though :) Just like with "program"! :D Once again, thanks! --Leckie -- Talk 17:32, 31 January 2010 (EST)
    • Yeah, I know, I'm teasing about the British spelling. :) You know, I'm not exactly sure how far back unpatrolled edits go. Unofficially, meaning just from my experience, I think it's somewhere between two weeks and a month. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:34, 31 January 2010 (EST)
      • Aah, cheers. Also, is there no way to patrol the first edit to a page? I just tried to patrol the first edit to a User talk page and it wont let me. --Leckie -- Talk 17:40, 31 January 2010 (EST)
