Ryan, there's this user, Slayer, who has copied and pasted the about section of my user page onto his page, and just changed a few words. Plus, he did it without my permission. Could you please do domething about it? User:Biohazard (talk) - 1 Januray 2009 18:53 (GMT)

  • Technically, any contributions you make to Heroes Wiki are released to the public under the Creative Commons License. I don't think Slayer means any harm--I'm sure he just liked what you have on your user page (it's very clever!). Have you tried approaching him first? I would just ask him kindly to remove what he borrowed from your user page first. If that doesn't work, let me know and we'll see if we can go another route. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:56, 1 January 2009 (EST)

Arthur's Office

Hi ryan just saying that i have edited arthur's office could you see what its like ?.Also i was thinking we could rename it to "Pinehearst Chairman's Office" a bit like bob' that ok ? Gabriel Bishop 16:08, 1 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • I'll take a look at the edits. I oppose the name change, though. As far as we know, Arthur is the only person who has ever occupied that office. Also, we don't know that he was the "chairman" of Pinehearst. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:32, 1 January 2009 (EST)

JT's response

Did JT say whether or not he should get credited for the iStory or whether he could help get us the credits?--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:22, 1 January 2009 (EST)

  • See Talk:iStory. He said, "Glad you liked it. It was a fun story to do, especially since it fed off the iStory I helped work on." I just emailed him a reply about two minutes ago. If/when I hear back, I'll let you know. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:28, 1 January 2009 (EST)
    • So no reply from JT and David's message said nothing about the credits?--MiamiVolts (talk) 17:30, 6 January 2009 (EST)
      • JT said, "I'm not sure why the people behind the istory have been kept under wraps, but for now I would ask that you keep it off the wiki stuff. I am sure NBC and Heroes will offer it sometime. And, for the record, the idea was not my brainchild. I merely came in to help out." Nothing from David about the iStory. I don't know if I specifically asked him, though. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:09, 6 January 2009 (EST)
        • Interesting. Based on his reply, and the lack of replies from others, it's sounding like a conspiracy, but I guess it could just be due to some legal matter they can't talk about. I guess we'll respect his request.--MiamiVolts (talk) 21:11, 6 January 2009 (EST)
          • Truth be told, I may have led him a little. I told him I've asked some writers and that I run into dead ends all over the place. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:13, 6 January 2009 (EST)

Just read the Patrollers page and yeah, I'm definitely game. No particular questions that I can think of at the moment. --Ricard Desi (t,c) 23:56, 1 January 2009 (EST)

Hey ryan im trying to make a new page on the fugitives but it keeps going on to the volume 4 bit in the season 3 page could you help me ? Gabriel Bishop 06:36, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • That's where Fugitives should redirect, since it's the name for Volume 4, which is the second half of Season Three. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:00, 2 January 2009 (EST)
    • I know that but i wanted to make a page on the fugitives (peter, ando, matt, claire, tracy, mohinder, hiro) Gabriel Bishop 13:23, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
      • Right now, with what's aired, nobody is a fugitive yet. Let's wait until the episode airs in February. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:46, 2 January 2009 (EST)
        • oh right you see i wanted to make a page coz i never made one becuase i thought we could make one since there is already a page on sylar's dad and other volume 4 characters ? Gabriel Bishop 14:53, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
          • You can call it Spoiler:Fugitives as long as it has published spoilers and information from previews. By the way, when responding on a talk page, it's customary to thread your comment by adding one more asterisk before your comment. So I just used 5 asterisks, and if you respond you would use six asterisks (******). Your next comment would go on the very next line, with no blank line in between. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:03, 2 January 2009 (EST)
            • Ok ryan ive done the page but its gone a bit wrong could you help me Gabriel Bishop 16:57, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
              • All that was missing was the }} at the end of the infobox template. I added that and now it's showing correctly. There are some things that need to be fixed up, but I'll let you do that so you can get some practice. Good job! (And good job with the discussion threading, too!) :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:07, 2 January 2009 (EST)
                • Thanks :) Gabriel Bishop 17:14, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
                  • Oh ryan thanks for helping me with my own Assignment Tracker pages.I only found out about half an hour ago thier GREAT !!! Gabriel Bishop 18:28, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
                    • You're welcome. I only created the template last night. I'm still working on it. I was not helping you so much as trying something out for myself. I'm still tweaking the template a bit. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:38, 2 January 2009 (EST)
                      • Thats ok But GREAT JOB :) Gabriel Bishop 18:56, 2 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

So when the interview will come up? Manwithnoname 10:05, 2 January 2009

  • As soon as I hear back from Adam Armus and Kay Foster. I image that with the holidays, they haven't touched the interview questions. I'll send them a reminder email today or tomorrow. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:06, 2 January 2009 (EST)
    • I saw your quote in the water mimicry page, so I assume you'll have the interview posted soon? Great work, by the way.--Citizen 22:32, 7 January 2009 (EST)
      • Posted. And thanks! Adam and Kay are great--they're very entertaining, and they give fantastic answers. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:34, 7 January 2009 (EST)

How do I make redirects again? -- Tristan0709 talk 22:44, 2 January 2009 (EST)

  • Type the following code on the page:
    #redirect [[NEW LINK]]
Then save the page and you're done. Let me know if it doesn't work. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:49, 2 January 2009 (EST)
    • Good job! And don't worry about asking questions. It's not a bother at all. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:00, 2 January 2009 (EST)

Hey, do you know why when you select "Show preview" on a redirect page, it comes up with "1. redirect link"? -- Tristan0709 talk 02:57, 4 January 2009 (EST)

  1. Because the pound sign by itself usually shows a number, just like at the beginning of my message. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:58, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Rather than start another heading, I jus thought I'd ask here. A Clear and Present Danger is going to be referred to as "314" and not "401", correct? -- Tristan0709 talk 03:06, 4 January 2009 (EST)

  • That's correct. The "3" refers to the season, not the volume. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:08, 4 January 2009 (EST)
    • Cool, thought so. My massive redirect assignment is OK, isn't it? -- Tristan0709 talk 03:11, 4 January 2009 (EST)
      • I don't have a problem with it...though somebody else can patrol those edits, not me. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 03:12, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Awards & nominations

Is that alright? -- Tristan0709 talk 02:48, 3 January 2009 (EST)

  • Yeah, I think it looks good. I assume you'll be doing the nominations, too... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:59, 3 January 2009 (EST)
    • Yes, of course. Working on it as we speak. -- Tristan0709 talk 21:12, 3 January 2009 (EST)
      • No rush. I just wanted to know if I should do it, or if you're working on it. Thanks! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:31, 3 January 2009 (EST)
        • Cool. Would it lok better to have multiple nominations from one awards show (like the Emmys) in one cell or different rows? -- Tristan0709 talk 21:44, 3 January 2009 (EST)
          • Try all the similar types of awards together, i.e. all the Emmys in one cell. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:47, 3 January 2009 (EST)
            • Cool. I'll separate them by years, of course. -- Tristan0709 talk 22:01, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Nextpart and Lastpart

I added nextpart and lastpart to the Webisode sidebar per prior discussion, and added it as appropriate to the Recruit and Hard Knox webisodes thus far. If it looks good, we can apply the changes to the Graphic Novels as well. What do you think?--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:01, 3 January 2009 (EST)

  • The graphic novels are specifically numbered and have a very definite order (with the exception of the two bonus issues The Rogue and The Last Shangri-La). The webisodes, however, are not released in as way that is as linear as the graphic novels. They have been released concurrently, and sometimes more than one at a time. The order on the Heroes news page is somewhat arbitrary--it's really just a list of when things are released, not an official order. I don't mind using it for numbering our webisodes, but I don't think we need to be slaves to that list. The nextpart and lastpart variables for the webisode sidebar is a good way to scoot around that a bit. It looks good, though it's a bit confusing. I don't think we need to apply it to the graphic novels, though. I'd rather just see a note on War Buddies, Part 6 that says the graphic novel is continued with War Buddies, Part 7. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:17, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Image questions

Hey. I just had a question and a few corrections about images. First, I'd like to correct two of the image names (specifically moving Image:Elle's AT.jpg to Image:Elle Bishop's AT.jpg and Image:Brendan Lewis' AT.jpg to Image:Brendan Lewis's AT.jpg simply for consistency's/grammar's respective sakes. I didn't see a move option on the image pages, so I'm guessing image pages can't be moved. If it's a hassle, we can leave it the way it is though. Also, regarding your comment on number of images uploaded, I had a followup on that topic I was wondering if you could address when you get a chance. Thanks. --Stevehim 15:38, 3 January 2009 (EST)

  • Images can't be moved. If you want, you can upload the images with the correct name, and then I'll delete the old ones. It's not a hassle at all. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:42, 3 January 2009 (EST)
    • Ok, I'll do that now then. Thanks again. --Stevehim 15:43, 3 January 2009 (EST)
  • Regarding your follow up question--I saw it. You use your best judgment, Stevehim. You're not a spammer, you're not one of those guys who uses the wiki solely as his own personal RPG, you're a strong contributor--if you want to upload a bunch of images for a project, I don't personally see a problem with it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:44, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Kissing guy

I was just wondering what was going to happen with him. As there seem to be alot of links to him. --laughingdevilboy 15:45, 3 January 2009 (EST)

  • Oy. Yeah, that's one of those things nagging at the back of my mind. It's been over a year now, and nobody's been able to find him. I've looked so many times for anything even remotely resembling Jaron White or a kissing guy in the Tim Kring Cut, and haven't been able to find him. :( -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:47, 3 January 2009 (EST)
    • Oh well, I would look myself but dont have the deleted scenes. Maybe we should just remove the links until we can find a picture in the deleted scene and keep the actor page for reference. --laughingdevilboy 15:49, 3 January 2009 (EST)
      • I can always undelete the actor page. There's no sense in having an actor page if we don't have a corresponding character page, or if we're not even sure the character ever appeared. I'll take care of the deletions in a few minutes. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:50, 3 January 2009 (EST)
        • Just thought I would bring it to your attention :) Nice to see things get done quick lol. --laughingdevilboy 15:52, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Assigment Tracker 2.0

Hey ryan could you help me with my assignment tracker page ? i got stuck on my pic and the power bar where i have put 90% fore peter. Gabriel Bishop 16:54, 3 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • Your image needs to be in the format Gabriel Bishop.JPG, not [[Image:Gabriel Bishop.JPG]]. I don't know what was wrong with Peter's percentage, other than you were missing a percent sign. There is no bar for the similar person. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:02, 3 January 2009 (EST)
    • Thanks i was talking about the control index the line looks slighty wonky.not in the bar Gabriel Bishop 17:11, 3 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
      • It looks fine to me. On another computer, I've seen it about half a pixel off. That's the best I think I can get it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:17, 3 January 2009 (EST)
        • Oh ok it just looks a tiny bit wierd but everything else is great.Good Job looked very complex Gabriel Bishop 17:18, 3 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
          • Thanks. Is anybody else having any problems with the control index line? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:21, 3 January 2009 (EST)
            • Im not sure.if you could tell me the people who have it (i dont know who has) i could check out :) Gabriel Bishop 17:28, 3 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
  • I have a few questions regarding the assignment tracker profiles you created, I was wondering what page they were being linked from as at the moment they are orphaned pages. I also thought if you wanted I could create the rest so you can have more time to see the rest of the site. Thanks --laughingdevilboy 12:21, 8 January 2009 (EST)
    • After all the pages are finished, they will be linked from Assignment Tracker 2.0 in the table. However, I don't want to create another column in the table that has blank spots on it. And I'd rather have some orphaned pages for a while than an incomplete table or a bunch of red links. All the pages will also be linked from the character's page, replacing the full text of the AT profiles. And yes, if you wanted to create the rest of those AT pages, that would be awesome! You'd be a godsend! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:57, 8 January 2009 (EST)
      • I will get right on it :) --laughingdevilboy 14:48, 9 January 2009 (EST)
        • I created a page for knox, I think you will need to have a look, I don't know how to make it go into the catergory of assignment tracker pages and I dont know where his picture is. Other than that I think its fine :) --laughingdevilboy 15:26, 9 January 2009 (EST)
          • I have created the rest of the trackers, didn't have any problems, some need photos and I couldn't access Matt Neuenbergs tracker, so I added as much information as I could. I will leave the rest up to you. :) If you need me for anything just holler. --laughingdevilboy 09:54, 10 January 2009 (EST)
  • Does anyone know why the Assignment Tracker doesn't work for me? Is it possible it can't be use by people who don't live in USA?--Alen76 18:05, 19 January 2009 (EST)
    • I haven't heard of that problem from anybody else. I'm not sure why it's not working... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:57, 19 January 2009 (EST)

Re: Patrolling

It seems very interesting, and I'd love to do something to help out the site. Count me in! --Piemanmoo 23:25, 3 January 2009 (EST)

I took a look at Heroes Wiki:Patrollers, I'm ok with taking care of edits at theory pages, I already have borderline OCD checking of every non-user page edit in the wiki anyway XD I just need to take same time getting used to the tools and how they work, I know lots of things about sypop tools (I'm a sypop and bureaucrat at the Avatar: The Last Airbender wiki), but I've never used patrolling. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:07, 17 January 2009 (EST)

  • I like the way you edit all pages, especially the theory pages. That's why I'd like you to be a patroller. Don't worry too much about the wiki tools and all its functions. Heck, when I started using wikis, I didn't even know you could edit them! I'm still learning how things work. You'll catch on, and if you ever have a question, don't hesitate to ask. I'll make you a patroller now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:26, 17 January 2009 (EST)

i'm sorry for not response you in long time. so can you remove Image:Bellaswan.jpg --User:Cgheroesguy3

You're probably right. However, shouldn't fPeter killing (well, attempting to) Nathan count? It was his brother, after all, not a stranger.--IotV 17.59, 4 January, 2009 (GMT)

  • I don't think killing your brother would really be considered a personal sacrifice, along the same lines of Peter knowing he might die when he fights Sylar at Homecoming. However, I don't care much one way or the other. I don't really edit the recurring themes pages very much. I would take it to the discussion page, I guess, and see what others think. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:39, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Cast section

Hello Ryan. I propose that we add a cast section on each episode page featuring a list of main/guest stars appearing in the episode. See this for a better idea of what I want.--Citizen 13:11, 4 January 2009 (EST)

  • Funny, I think I actually talked to Proudhug about that idea. :) My only issue is that the main cast is set. The rest of the cast is not designated as guest stars or co-stars by anybody but us. But don't we already have the list of appearances on the episode pages? Though it's not exactly the same thing, doesn't that accomplish the same idea of listing who appears in the episode? Plus, I think we used to include which main cast members don't appear in an episode. I don't think we've been doing that this season. That'd be a nice addition, and I think even more helpful to know who doesn't appear than who does appear. What do you think? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:42, 4 January 2009 (EST)
    • Still, a cast section makes the pages look more professional and complete. It doesn't indicate ANYWHERE, save for the cast portals and minor actor pages, that they appeared on the show. Also, isn't guest starring the names that appear in the opening credits and co-stars the names that appear in the closing credits? Also, even if the main cast is always credited, we could just not include those who didn't appear in the episode, as seen here regarding Elisha Cuthbert. Are they even credited if they don't appear?--Citizen 17:41, 4 January 2009 (EST)
      • Why don't you do a mock up in your userspace so I can maybe see exactly what you're talking about and how it would fit on the page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:14, 4 January 2009 (EST)
      • Hm, actually, doing it only with guest stars and co-stars would suffice. The problem is that the main cast gets changed through the seasons. How do we handle that?--Citizen 22:45, 4 January 2009 (EST)
        • Hmm, let me mull that over. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:47, 4 January 2009 (EST)
          • I think this is what I want done. We can keep them like that.--Citizen 23:07, 4 January 2009 (EST)
            • I'm not sure we need it. It seems really redundant to have the characters listed twice, and it makes an already long page even longer. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:10, 4 January 2009 (EST)
              • Then maybe we can do it with guest stars as seen [1]? At least so that there is something that lists them.--Citizen 23:25, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Don't mean to interfere with your conversation, but I think that an idea like this is great, but should be used in the episode box at the top right of the article, like it is used Beginning of the End here, so that it is easily read and does not clog up the article. -- Tristan0709 talk 00:15, 6 January 2009 (EST)

  • If we did it anywhere, I think it'd be best in the Notes or Trivia section, or in a new section. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:32, 6 January 2009 (EST)
  • It does look good in the infobox, as done on Lostpedia. Ryan?--Citizen 19:04, 6 January 2009 (EST)

List of License Plates

In Dual, did we get to see either Tracy Strauss's car's license plate or the President's limo's license plate?--MiamiVolts (talk) 18:20, 4 January 2009 (EST)

You might want to check up on the new user Flintfire Returns... Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 20:57, 4 January 2009 (EST)

  • Thanks for the heads up. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:01, 4 January 2009 (EST)
    • No problem, but I actually meant that he was a previously blocked user. (Flintfire1996 (talk)) Are you giving him a reprieve? Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 21:03, 4 January 2009 (EST)
      • Gotcha. I didn't realize he was a previously blocked user. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:08, 4 January 2009 (EST)

Faceoffs page

Ryan, I've been working on a new page in my user-area called Faceoffs. Wondering if you thought it would be something worthwhile to have as a mainpage entry, or just something that should stay in my user-area. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/5/2009 11:46 (EST)

  • It reminds me of Peter vs. Sylar. I think it'd be a great fan creation. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:45, 5 January 2009 (EST)
  • I think it's great as well, it would be cool if there is a note to say who is the winner though, because a few are a bit vauge :) -- Irony 13:50, 5 January 2009 (EST)
  • I think DocM has a similar page going. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 18:03, 5 January 2009 (EST)
    • I'll note Doc's page. They are good supplements to one another, with his layout focusing on descriptive text, and mine focusing on the graphical images. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/8/2009 13:10 (EST)

Moving Rollo Fusor's accomplice's victims to mainspace?

I'm just wondering whether you think we could move this page to mainspace? It's only on my userpage at the moment, and I'm pretty pleased with it. Thanks!--IotV 23.24, 5 January 2009 (GMT)

  • It looks good. Why don't you put a {{rename}} template on it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:41, 5 January 2009 (EST)
    • I'm not too sure I know how to do that, but I'll give it a go.--Iotv 08.03, 6 January 2009 (GMT)
      • Done! Now we just wait, or what?--Iotv 08.03, 6 January 2009 (GMT)
        • Yeah, give it a few days, and see if anybody has any objections or is in support of it. Then go from there. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 07:32, 6 January 2009 (EST)
          • There've been no objections, and some support, so can we move it? If you don't mind, would you please move it - I don't know how, and am afraid of mucking it up!--IotV 20.55, 8 January 2009 (GMT)
            • Yeah, I don't see why it couldn't be moved. I'll let you do the move for the practice. Click "move" tab at the top of the page. Then type the new name of the article (i.e., remove the user namespace). Add a reason ("moving to main namespace" works), and that's about it! Don't worry, you can't really muck up anything that can't be undone or fixed. If you have trouble with it, or if something goes wrong, let me know. Good luck! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:07, 8 January 2009 (EST)
              • I did it(!). Thanks for all the help.--Iotv 10.18, 9 January 2009 (GMT)

Want to be a conductor?

I'm working on a little something right now, in my little fanfic thingies. Is there any chance I could use your nightclub as the setting? I could make you the one in charge of it if you'd like. If you dont want to, I'll be happy to delete it.--Piemanmoo 01:21, 6 January 2009 (EST)

  • You know you're famous when people start writing fan-fics about you :) -- Tristan0709 talk 01:26, 6 January 2009 (EST)

Idea for nominations

I think there should be a page where people can nominate their self or others for adminship or patrolship. Raiku 17:06, 6 January 2009 (EST)

Admin Nomination

I think that Heroe should become an admin. He has had very constructive edits, and been here really long, longer than you! Raiku 17:11, 6 January 2009 (EST)

  • Thanks for the suggestion. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:13, 6 January 2009 (EST)
  • Also, why isn't Hardvice part of the staff?--Citizen 18:21, 6 January 2009 (EST)
    • He hasn't editing in quite awhile. I think I remember reading on his LJ page that he's got a new business or a new job or something. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:53, 6 January 2009 (EST)
      • So what's your answer to my suggestion? Raiku 18:54, 6 January 2009 (EST)
        • Raiku, I think they need time to discuss and debate (do you discuss and debate?) before making a decision. Please bare with them. Thanks. --DocM 18:58, 6 January 2009 (EST)
          • I don't make sysop promotion decisions unilaterally. That's a decision all the admins would make offsite, usually over email, or by phone in some cases. We look for consensus among the sysops when promoting somebody. However, I wouldn't discuss the merits and demerits of a member in a public forum. A nomination is just that--you have nominated somebody. If the decision is made to promote that member, you will know. If not, no decision or announcement would be made. However, I will be honest in saying that I personally don't think we need any more admins right now, nothing against Heroe or any of the other users that we have considered. We are not as big a site as, say, Wikipedia--just a few admins can keep up with blocking and deleting, which are the main jobs of an admin. Thanks for the suggestion, though, Raiku--we will take it into consideration. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:06, 6 January 2009 (EST)
    • Wow, I knew Hardvice wasn't around much, but I had no idea he hadn't contributed since the Summer.--Citizen 19:01, 6 January 2009 (EST)

Sorry to ask this..

Could you add something [2] to that page about the German being one of Knox's victims, Maury being one of Arthur's victims, and Samedi being incapacitated? I can't seem to figure out how to do it...--Crazylicious 18:56, 6 January 2009 (EST)

  • What would you like me to add? Why don't you try adding what you want to add, and somebody will clean it up if the formatting is off. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:10, 6 January 2009 (EST)
    • Well, Echo and Jesse both have links to Sylar's victims where it says deceased. The German and Maury need the same link to Knox's victims and Arthur's victims, respectively.--Crazylicious 19:14, 6 January 2009 (EST)
      • Oh, I see what you're saying. Well, that's quite a bit of code that needs to be added to a template for just a few links to less significant pages. I could do it, but I'm feeling sick and lazy right now. I'm actually heading to take a nap in the next little while, and I'll see if I can get around to it when I'm done. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:19, 6 January 2009 (EST)
        • Sounds good, thanks!--Crazylicious 22:39, 7 January 2009 (EST)

Theory Question

Hi - I'm wondering if it's OK to edit other peoples' theories to remove bad grammar, or spelling mistakes; fix links etc, or is it like your talk page? Thanks in advance!--IotV 23.35, 7 January 2009 (GMT)

  • Just like pages in the main namespace don't "belong" to anyone, neither do theories in the Theory namespace. Once they're added to the wiki, they can be edited as much as any other page can be edited--especially for grammar and spelling mistakes. They're not like a page in the user namespace (which, too, can be edited freely in a few circumstances--most notably if it has unwanted red links). Edit at will! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:50, 7 January 2009 (EST)

People's Choice Award!

Maybe you could add something about it on the sitenotice? Just a suggestion.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:40, 7 January 2009 (EST)

  • Great, now just fix "the by the" to be "by the". Thanks. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:02, 8 January 2009 (EST)
    • Sheesh, I make the worst typos! It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine that not everybody can edit the sitenotice (and other MediaWiki pages). I understand why that's so, but sometimes the practical application of it is a bit annoying. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:08, 8 January 2009 (EST)
      • That's okay. We all make mistakes, just need to notice them so we can fix them. To error is human, so to speak. :)--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:14, 8 January 2009 (EST)
        • Oh the irony--I believe you're thinking of "to err is human"... :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 00:16, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Ep-related templates

It doesn't look like they get used much, but I've made some replacement templates to improve and expand their functionality (to include the webisodes). If you're interested in checking them out, see the discussion here. It's mostly straightforward stuff, but I'm waiting till the morning to move them over to main template space in case anyone spotted something.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:19, 8 January 2009 (EST)

  • If you move your user template to replace template:ep, will it mess up the format of the template that's being used right now? In other words, will any of these pages need to be fixed? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 01:22, 8 January 2009 (EST)
    • They shouldn't need to be. The only changes I'm making to template:ep are to add functionality: 1) So that template:gnn (which calls template:ep) can also do namespaces of episodes and webisodes, 2) So that the subtitles SVD added to the webisode output are output by a new template (Eps). Template:Ep will no longer output webisode subtitles, but none of the linked pages use that template to do so.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:30, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Destiny interview publicity

Posted for you about it at 9th Wonders and IMDb. I assume you'll still be e-mailing HeroesARG, the OWI and the rest to let them know.--MiamiVolts (talk) 01:52, 8 January 2009 (EST)

  • Thanks for posting at 9th. Yeah, I have an email list I've built up over time with about 30 or so blogs, sites, and other such people that like to hear about interviews. Thanks, Miami! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:01, 8 January 2009 (EST)
    • You have sent out the publicity e-mail by now, right?--MiamiVolts (talk) 11:36, 10 January 2009 (EST)
      • Yes. I was at work when I got your email yesterday, so I was going to wait until I got home to pull out my contact list. However, I found it pretty quickly in an old email. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:15, 10 January 2009 (EST)

Past Characters (from like 1991 ect.)

Shouldn't there be a past character portal seeing as though there is a future character portal? --Harrypotter1994 09:44, 8 January 2009 (EST)

  • This has been discussed recently. No, because those characters grow up to be the present characters. They're the same person. The future characters are alternate characters who will never exist in the main timeline.--Citizen 10:10, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Question about contributions - pages created

Ryan, I know you can go to 'my contributions' and get a list of everything you've done historically. Is there a way to hone this down so that you can get a list just of pages that you have "initially created"? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/8/2009 10:58 (EST)

  • Not really...but you can find that information out with some dpl logic. User this code:
Check out the sandbox, and you'll see what I mean. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:02, 8 January 2009 (EST)
    • Great...the dpl code is exactly what I needed, and I was able to cull out several other types, so I could make a pretty dynamic list on my userpage of pages I've created...but exclude support-type pages. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/8/2009 13:06 (EST)
      • Instead of excluding all those namespaces, you could just choose the main namespace if that's what you want, using:
The main namespace is the empty string so you leave it blank to select it.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:16, 8 January 2009 (EST)
        • Well, shoot! That's really helpful, Miami! I was wondering how to specify the main namespace. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:09, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Related Article: Eden McCain

Sorry to bother you, but when I created the ‘Related Articles: Eden McCain’ page, I left a space between the colon and ‘Eden’. I think this needs to be changed because all the other related article pages have no space between the name and the colon, e.g. Related Articles:Peter. I didn’t want to put this up for name change because it was so small. Thanks -- Irony

  • No bother at all. Yeah, there's no need to nominate it for a name change. You can also just go ahead and move the page yourself by clicking the "move" tab on the top of the article. I'll take care of that now for you. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:54, 8 January 2009 (EST)

Hey man. I saw some of the AT diagram images you made for Raiku, and I must say, they were very good. Do you think you could possibly make a Selective mimicry one? ...about the mistakes in the image and the Spoiler page - in my haste to eradicate two red links, I got a little too enthusiastic!--IotV 22.45, 9 January 2009 (GMT)

  • No worries. We actually were gathering images at the same time, so it's not like I went out and uploaded a new image to "show you up" or anything. However, usually we name images a little less generically than "Images" (it helps to find it later). Also, images need categories and sources, and they should be standard size. If you have questions about uploading images, let me know, and I'd be glad to help out. :) Thanks for all your hard work, as always! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:52, 9 January 2009 (EST)

Stephen's AT

I noticed that you summarized Stephen Canfield's AT section. Shouldn't we leave all of them in their entirety on each page? I like that each character page has its own "expanded universe" information, and I think many people would agree to keep it as we've always kept it.--Citizen 17:29, 10 January 2009 (EST)

  • I think it makes more sense to summarize on the character page, especially now that there is a copy of the entire thing on another page. -Lөvөl 16:05, 17 January 2009 (EST)
    • The whole thing looks good on each character page. And the copies are the archived versions. Everything should be left as it is, in my opinion. It's official biography info on each character.--Citizen 16:13, 17 January 2009 (EST)
      • ...which is why I think we should summarize the biography information and link to the AT facsimile. We summarize all other information from episodes, graphic novels, and HE content. I think we should summarize information (the summaries can be longer than the ones I left, if you'd like) and link to the full, original text. The character pages shouldn't hold every quote, every action, every single thing about the character--they should be a snapshot of the character, a detailed summary. I don't think we need to have the full original text on the character pages, but just the most important details. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:34, 17 January 2009 (EST)

Template:Assignment Tracker

I think you had a duplicate div section that was putting up an image over your image, which is what what was giving you trouble and what I removed. I also left a comment at Template talk:Assignment Tracker.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:33, 10 January 2009 (EST)

Markus Flanagan

Do you know why his DOB was commented out? Were you able to get him the copy of Parasite he was looking for?--MiamiVolts (talk) 04:37, 12 January 2009 (EST)

  • Michael Milhoan's birthdate is also commented, but there's nothing saying why. Do you know?--MiamiVolts (talk) 04:52, 12 January 2009 (EST)
    • Markus Flanagan asked me to remove his date of birth. I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that as an actor, he needs to be able to portray a range of ages, and doesn't want to be pigeonholed into his actual age. But since he asked, I think we can respect that. I believe Michael Milhoan's birthdate is commented out because it's unverified. I can't remember specifics, but I think I found two or three conflicting dates for him--rather than printing incorrect information, it's probably better to not print anything at all. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 08:06, 12 January 2009 (EST)
      • Thanks for the info.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:14, 12 January 2009 (EST)
      • Michael Milhoan's birthdate is given on his IMDb profile. What are the other sources? I want to note it on his discussion page for future ref.--MiamiVolts (talk) 14:15, 12 January 2009 (EST)
        • I can't remember at this point. But I certainly didn't have a year back then, so it seems that whatever was once unverified has been verified since--and with more exact information, one would assume. I'll go ahead and add the date that's listed at IMDb. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:52, 12 January 2009 (EST)

Season Histories

Hi Ryan, I seem to be popping up a lot lately but, anyway, I was thinking about the character toolbar, I think it would be a good idea to put in a Season Histories Icon in it leading to a season histories portal. (If not on the character toolbar I think there should at least be a seasons histories portal). I would be willing to make all of this. Thanks --Irony 16:56, 14 January 2009 (EST)

  • What character toolbar are you referring to? This one? Where do you suggest we link the season histories? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:00, 14 January 2009 (EST)
    • Sorry about that, I was actually referring to this one, I think it would be quite useful to have them all together. --Irony 17:04, 14 January 2009 (EST)
      • No worries. I'm not sure how we would link multiple character histories from multiple seasons (and growing!) on that navbar. Are you thinking portals? That seems redundant. Would it be easier to make a navbar (similar to template:characternav) to go at the bottom of each of the character's season history subpages? That way they'd all be linked from each other. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:09, 14 January 2009 (EST)
        • I think so too, do you want me to do it? (I have to go now but if you want I'll get round to it tomorrow) --Irony 17:11, 14 January 2009 (EST)
          • Yeah, that works. If you need help, let me know. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:18, 14 January 2009 (EST)
          • You know, probably the best thing to do is to just amend template:season archive footer. It's already at the bottom of every season history page, so it will greatly minimize the amount of edits. In fact, the only edit it will require is adding to the template. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:29, 14 January 2009 (EST)
            • I've done this. Does it look O.K to you? There is definately something wrong with the coding (sorry about that, I'm still learning), if you click the edit button it leads to here -- Irony 12:53, 15 January 2009 (EST)
              • Looks great. I might make some tweaks when I get around to it (as others already have), but I think it's an improvement. Well done! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:14, 15 January 2009 (EST)
            • The link at the top leads to the articles related to characters portal (have you got any better ideas) --Irony 02:39, 16 January 2009 (EST)
              • That's good for now. I might play with it this weekend. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:44, 16 January 2009 (EST)

blocked account

hello I am currently writing a heroes novel and was wondering if I could put my characters on this website, seeing as its the only one that allows me to do that. So if I could put them up here without getting my IP address blocked, that would be great. Traphik94 17:09, 14 January 2009

  • The pages you've created so far seem very cool, and very in depth. Awesome job. You are more than welcome to create the pages here at Heroes Wiki--however, please create them in the user namespace. That means each page should start with "User:Traphik94/", like User:Traphik94/Daniel Park. Also, please take care to not create a bunch of red links on your pages. If they are red links that direct to your user pages, that's fine--but if they are red links that link to pages called "NAME OF EPISODE" or "Traphik94/Daniel Park (disambig)", that's not good. All this has been explained to you on your talk page. If you have further questions, feel free to ask. I don't think you meant any harm by creating red links or by creating pages in the main namespace (i.e. without your username in front of the title of the article), but you were either ignoring or not understanding your talk page. I never blocked your IP address, but I did block your account for a day as that was the only way I could think to get your attention. It seems to have worked. :) Good luck with your writing (hint: feel free to use Category:Fan Fiction at the bottom of each page you create), and if you have any questions, I'm on the site quite often, and there are a bunch of other people here who would be willing to help you out. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:19, 14 January 2009 (EST)

To see what it looks like, check here. If that's not what you're looking for, let me know. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 10:57, 15 January 2009 (EST)
  • Thanks, that is exactly what I need. Two more questions: How can I put those abilities into columns, and do we have any page like User:Tristan0709/Abilities? -- Tristan0709 talk 21:46, 16 January 2009 (EST)
    • Columns is trickier and might take me a couple minutes to figure out.

We have an article about ability loss, but I don't know of any specifically about ability acquisition. I don't think we know enough about it to make an article yet. I mean, we have an article about the formula and about ability heredity, but not one that talks just about how one obtains abilities. But there's no surefire way. The formula has backfired, and not all kids of evolved humans receive abilities. It's a cool subpage, though. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:52, 16 January 2009 (EST)

      • Why thankyou. -- Tristan0709 talk 22:03, 16 January 2009 (EST)
      • I'm having a hard time figuring out columns on DPL. There's probably a relatively easy way to do it, but I don't know it. I suggest you ask MiamiVolts--he knows the DPL template codes really well. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:36, 16 January 2009 (EST)

Hi ryan how close do you think i am to becoming a patroller ? Gabriel Bishop 14:40, 17 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop

  • You've got a ways to go. I'm seeing a lot of grammar mistakes from you still. For instance, proper nouns (like my first name) should always be capitalized, and the word "I" should always be capitalized. Also, there is no space between the last word of a sentence and the end punctuation. And the message you left me above should be two sentences, which means you should have an ending punctuation mark after my name, and the word "how" should be capitalized. Keep working! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:45, 17 January 2009 (EST)

Hi Ryan. I know that I'm a million miles away from being a patroller, but if you ever think I'm ready, I would be very, very willing. --Irony 15:42, 17 January 2009 (EST)

  • Thanks, Irony. I don't think you're a million miles away. I'll keep you in mind. Keep up the good work! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 15:47, 17 January 2009 (EST)
    • Thanks, By the way my name is Bob (Robert) --Irony 16:54, 17 January 2009 (EST)
  • I'd like to put my name down for consideration as well. I'd also like to remind Gabriel Bishop that he shouldn't be expecting to become a patroller. There's what, 6,830 members, and around 15 patrollers? -- Tristan0709 talk 17:20, 17 January 2009 (EST)
    • Thanks, Tristan. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:01, 17 January 2009 (EST)
      • No problem. I know I am still fairly new, but I don't understand how people can join a community and not just request, but expect to be put in a position of power after a short period of time, especially one in which they have come close to being banned various times, been unethical in discussion, and vandalised pages. I know Gabriel Bishop claims to have changed his ways, but, in a normal scenario, wouldn't a person who did something like this be ridiculed if they attempted to become a patroller? I know for a fact that I am roughly the same age as Gabriel Bishop, so he can't use his age as an excuse for his actions. I am trying not to mean offense, but I can't believe that a person like him expects that he will become a patroller. Rant ended. -- Tristan0709 talk
        • I agree completely. :∫ -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 11:44, 25 January 2009 (EST)
          • Me too. To be honest, this, aside from the rbfskywalker fiasco a few months ago, is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read on this wiki. I've never vandalized the wiki. I think the worse thing I've ever done is use it as a file hosting site in August 2007, but Gabriel Bishop, doing what he's done, can't seriously be expecting to be made a patroller. His grammar and spelling is still terrible, even after people have told him about proper spelling etiquette. He hasn't made any appropriate edits and his subpages have many typos, proving that he can't write a proper paragraph for an article. I went to his Maury Pizza Delivery page once, and counted the errors. I stopped counting at fifty-three. I don't want to sound off as an egotistic person or anything, saying "Ha, I'm a patroller and you will never be", but I can certainly tell you, Gabriel Bishop, that you do not have what it takes to be a patroller on this wiki.--Citizen 12:23, 25 January 2009 (EST)
            • Let me first add that what I'm writing now isn't directed at anybody at all. It's just a generic essay on how I make decisions to promote patrollers and my view on learning.

What I look for in a patroller is three, maybe four facets of a contributor. One, they should have a good knowledge of Heroes, including various media, characters, events, etc. Second, I look for somebody who has a good grasp of English, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and who can simply express himself. Finally, I look for somebody who understands how the wiki works, including portals, templates, discussion pages, policies, and basic editing skills. The wiki facet also includes a person's interpersonal relationship with other editors. I don't think anybody needs to be a master of all three of these domains, but they should have some above average skills in those areas. If one area is lacking, it might be offset by strengths in another. If one area is seriously off (say, if that person can't spell to save his life, or if the person has never seen Heroes), then that may negate any strengths in other areas.

I'll also add that I've seen quite a few people grow in many areas. Some have gone from being borderline vandals to very strong contributors. I'm a teacher, so I believe strongly that with very few exceptions, just about anybody can learn. It may take longer for some, but we all have the potential to learn, grow, and progress in whatever it is we want to do. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:41, 25 January 2009 (EST)

              • Why did you make me a patroller, Ryan? Also, who are those has be'd vandals? I'd like to read up on those old cases. ;-).--Citizen 13:13, 25 January 2009 (EST)
                • You match all three of those aspects, Citizen....And I've never been one to kiss and tell, just as I've never been one to reveal past transgressions. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:31, 25 January 2009 (EST)
  • I agree. I am sure there are many people who fit those criteria on this wiki, but only those who go above and beyond and contribute especially hard become patrollers. So I think it is ridiculous for a person to expect to be a patroller when they not only donn't fit the criteria, but have vandalised the wiki and are now bullying people who have made innocent mistakes. It seems almost as stupid as Gumbyspotting. -- Tristan0709 talk 23:13, 25 January 2009 (EST)

Need a move only an admin can perform.

I think my spirit walk page is ready to be moved. I went to do this myself only to find the exists as a redirect. I'd rather preserve the history that copy paste the project like I did with the GNI article. Could you move it the way you can that deletes the redirect, please? Thanks. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 01:52, 19 January 2009 (EST)

Ryan, is it possible for you to contact the directors of "The Recruit" webisode series for an interview? I would really like to find out what's going to happen with this story in the future! --Alen76 17:56, 19 January 2009 (EST)

  • I probably won't be able to interview Jesse Alexander since he's not working for Heroes any more. I'll send an email to Jim and Timm. (I've interviewed them before.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:57, 19 January 2009 (EST)
    • I've discovered Timm mentioned the second webisode series he wrote after The Recruit will be released at the end of this season. You might want to wait and interview about both web series together.--MiamiVolts (talk) 00:29, 20 January 2009 (EST)
      • Great! Thanks!--Alen76 10:12, 20 January 2009 (EST)
      • I realized the same thing, Miami. I haven't sent anybody an email yet. I'll wait until the next set is released. Good thinking....Plus I've been really busy with my personal life lately, so Heroes Wiki has taken a bit of a backseat... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2009 (EST)

9th Wonders Covers Question

Hey Ryan, I found 10 "new" 9th Wonders covers yesterday, shown in (The Eclipse, Part 2) when Hiro is in the Kansas Sam's Comics store. (He dumped a big box of them on the floor.) Most of them are covers that have not yet been shown 'in-canon', so that got me pretty excited. However, most of them also are only showing partial glimpses of their covers (since he dumped them out on the floor in a pile), and there is enough showing of them to identify them with known Tim Sale covers he has down for Helix Comics promos, that we do have full covers for. I think it is good for our 9th Wonders gallery to showcase for reference, all of the known covers that have been seen in-canon, so how I handled this was to put in the gallery explanation a blurb stating that the following covers were unnumbered and were alternate versions of the Uncle Burk's Fine Comics covers, and then proceeded to list the existing Helix full-cover that we do have. That's the best way I could come up with showcasing the now 'in-canon' cover, and not just show a small piece of it, but show the entire cover to match the gallery layout. Just wanted to see if you had a better idea of how to do this, or how to word the way I've added them to the gallery.

Another idea I have had, that would solve all of this problem I think, if I could get you to buy off on it, would be to remove all of the "9th Wonders" labled covers from both the Uncle Burk's Fine Comics and Helix Comics pages, and put them all into one gallery, but then add a blurb-line below them that states whether they are a Tim Sale promo cover, or they are an Isaac Mendez cover. That way, the 9th Wonders! page will show all 9th wonders covers, and it will also easily distinguish which ones were drawn in-show by Isaac, and which ones have been drawn by Tim Sale for promo use...because what I am seeing now, especially with the Eclipse, Part 2 episode, is that more and more 'promo' covers are showing up in the episode whenever they want to stick some more 9th wonders in the shows. I think this idea would remove any confusion, showcase all covers, and explain where they are attributed to. I'll mock up a sample gallery in my userspace of what it might look like, and send you back the link in a few minutes to look at. --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/20/2009 10:02 (EST)

  • OK, here's the full gallery, with sourceline added. User:HiroDynoSlayer/TestCoverGallery --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/20/2009 10:17 (EST)
    • I saw the covers you added to the 9th Wonders! gallery, and I patrolled the edit because I thought it was fine. It's funny--I was working on something simultaneously since I was reviewing the episode at the same time that you added the covers. GMTA, right? Anyway, I think it's good as it is. I don't like the idea of adding "Tim Sale promo cover" or anything like that on the 9th Wonders! page since it breaks perspective. In the world of Heroes and in the context of the show, Tim Sale didn't do the covers--Isaac did. I think the way you originally added it the right way to go. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2009 (EST)

Who keeps adding in Harry Fletcher?--Citizen 20:29, 20 January 2009 (EST)

  • Don't know, but it's getting on my nerves. -- Tristan0709 talk 21:29, 20 January 2009 (EST)
    • Exactly im getting angry about this issue! why would harry flecther be in it ? Gabriel Bishop 08:41, 21 January 2009 (EST) Gabriel Bishop
      • Period goes after "Exactly", "im" should be "I'm". "why" should start capitalized, so should Harry Fletcher (it's a name, for crying out loud) and there shouldn't be a space between the question mark and "it". Five mistakes! That's like your lowest count.--Citizen 16:02, 21 January 2009 (EST)
        • Nice one, Citizen. I can understand why people have theories about Harry Fletcher, but someone thinks it is funny to incorporate him into every theories section on every spoiler page. -- Tristan0709 talk 19:12, 21 January 2009 (EST)
          • There's a difference between adding a legitimate theory that might be applicable to lots of people (like ascribing the hooded killer's identity to a number of people), and simply adding a person's name to a bunch of theory pages to be silly. If it's legitimate, leave it alone. If it's silly, I don't have a problem with it being removed. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2009 (EST)

Character history

There is a new tendency to put the character history already in the introductory lines and the box (deceased, formerly etc.). This makes it complicated for the countries who are a half season behind and dont want to spoil their readers. Actually I think that the encyclopedic mode does not care about spoilers and does not like past tense, but there are big red signs all over the german wiki... --Juba 05:15, 21 January 2009 (EST)

  • At the same time, we can't hold back information from the wiki just because the information hasn't been released in all areas. It's a tricky line. I agree with you, though--I don't think the full character history needs to be in the lead sentences of a character's page. I prefer when those introductory lines are generally kept to three or four sentences. Feel free to make changes where you see fit. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2009 (EST)
    • The problem is somebody is doing a hard work to keep it up to date and would not like to see it erased! May be it should be discussed in the community portal? I think the characters should not die in the first phrase ("was"), before one reads even the first appearance. --Juba 11:37, 24 January 2009 (EST)
      • I think the discussion at the community portal is a great idea that way we can all figure out the best way to handle it. (Admin 12:25, 24 January 2009 (EST))
        • Is there a discussion started there yet? I couldn't find one. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:48, 24 January 2009 (EST)
          • I don't believe so. I just meant the idea to start one there was a great idea. (Admin 22:08, 24 January 2009 (EST))

It appears that all the redlinks are part of Traphik94's subpages. Can you do something about those? It'd be nice to have an all-blue day today :-).--Citizen 16:41, 22 January 2009 (EST)

I'm not sure if I'm being a bore, but I feel that something is just not quite right. I know members are allowed to create pages, characters, powers and what not in their user namespaces, but is it really okay for a member to create 56 (and counting) characters and not make a single contribution to actual articles? As far as I'm concerned, this is a wiki, not a board or Going through his contributions, other than those characters, the only thing he has done is upload images for them and reply to you that one time you blocked him for not adding the newpages to his namespace. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 17:41, 23 January 2009 (EST)

  • And most of his pages don't have any content. -- Tristan0709 talk 18:15, 23 January 2009 (EST)
    • Not to mention he's STILL creating red links despite being warned not to several times. And Admin already gave him a step-by-step explanation of how to do it, because apparently he didn't know how to get rid of the red links. Sincerely, Thrashmeister [ U | T | C ] 18:48, 23 January 2009 (EST)
      • I'm not so worried about all the pages in his user namespace. If Admin feels it's taking up too much bandwidth or is inappropriate, I'll let him make that decision, not me. But Admin is aware of the pages for the most part, and I don't think he has any issue with them. I don't get it, but I just kind of ignore them. What I can't ignore, though, is all the red links he creates. By mistake or once in awhile is one thing--excessive red links is another thing. I'll mention it again to him, and I think I might make a change to MediaWiki:Newarticletext. That should take care of the problem by hook or by crook. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2009 (EST)
        • Actually, after Admin told him to stop using the button at the top, it seems none of his edits have included red links. I'll hold off make a change to the MediaWiki page. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:52, 23 January 2009 (EST)
          • My main issue with this is not him making his pages, is the fact that that's the only thing he does, he hasn't made one contribution to main articles, ever, and that's what I think it's wrong. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 10:47, 24 January 2009 (EST)
            • As long as it doesn't really interfere with other people I have no problem if someone only exclusively works on fan content in their user space. We try to keep an open mind... if we didn't then things like theories, spoilers, and fan creation pages (e.g. South Park Heroes) may have not made the cut. The red links were causing a real problem for others which is why that had to be corrected. Live and let live. :) (Admin 11:15, 24 January 2009 (EST))

Series Vs. Volume

Is there any reason that we group character information (like histories) in series not volumes. I think that it would make a lot more sense (as well as many edits) to group things on volumes, as it would be much shorter and easier to read. ---- Bring on the Irony 12:00, 28 January 2009 (EST)

  • In theory, seasons are consistently the same length (23 episodes, or thereabout). Of course, the second season is an exception because of the writers strike that cut it short. But in the future, it would be weird, I think, to have a volume of history that is three episodes long, and another that is 23. I'm not opposed to another way of doing it, but it would require a lot of edits that really means restructuring most of the wiki. That's not something I'm very keen on doing, just so we have shorter histories. However, feel free to bring up the subject at the community portal. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:49, 28 January 2009 (EST)
    • Oh, I'm fine with the no-edits, I was just really wondering why we do it that way. :P---- Bring on the Irony 16:53, 28 January 2009 (EST)
      • Gotcha. I don't know if there's an "official" reason, but that's my reason for not making the change...which I've thought about in the past. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:59, 28 January 2009 (EST)
  • Got a compromise that may work: on the season section of the character pages and on the season history pages, delineate volumes. In other words, season 3 at heading 3 would have volumes 3 and 4 at heading 4 on a character page. --SacValleyDweller (talk) 23:00, 28 January 2009 (EST)

Have an idea to add to each characters page

Ryan, Being motivated by the artist gallery of member Chrisyu357, I was thinking it would be cool to add a new link in the See Also section of the characters, kinda like the images link, that was for artist renderings of the character. For example:

See Also

(They second link points to a userpage of mine I threw together to show what I'm thinking about)

What do you think about the value of adding this to our characters, to easily showcase they artist talents who have drawn them? --HiroDynoSlayer (talk) 01/28/2009 18:32 (EST)

  • I think showcasing artists' talents is best left on the artists' pages, and not on the characters pages. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:29, 28 January 2009 (EST)

Broken iStory page

There's a broken page in the newest iStory chapter (chapter 3) of The Private. The link to that page is here and I just posted the error on NBC's website but it might be a good idea to tell Joe Tolerico too ASAP, since there is likely a related poll ongoing in the chapter. The broken page is from when you chose to wire charges to the chemical tank when reaching it here.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:22, 28 January 2009 (EST)

The 3 Sams

Hey Ryan. There's been an influx of Sams in the Heroesverse recently, with Sam (drug store clerk) and Sam (The Private) popping up right after Sam does. My point is that shouldn't we move the original Sam (the one at Lawrence, KS) to a page like Sam (comics clerk) or Sam (Sam's Comics), and redirect the Sam page to Sam (disambig)?

Also, when we're listing appearances for characters like Sam (drug store clerk) or Gina (Echo's girlfriend) or Eric (iStory), do we include the bracketed parts? Or just "Sam" "Gina" "Eric"? --Radicell 04:25, 30 January 2009 (EST)

  • It's not my decision to make (that's up to the community), but I'd personally rather keep Sam pointing towards the article about Seth Green's character, rather than to a disambig page. The other two Sams are pretty incidental and not very important. The drug store clerk will probably never be seen from again, and the iStory guy has a pretty slim chance of ever appearing in an episode or having a bigger role. However, Seth Green told TV Guide that the writers told him that if he accepts the role, he needs to be able to return to the show when needed. Indeed, I've seen spoilers that hint of him returning. In fact, Alex will play a guy who has some connection to Sam's Comics, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Seth Green back on the show. My point is, yeah, there are a few Sams, but I'd rather give the link to the one who is the most prevalent of them all. In a case like Gina, neither promises to return or be seen from again, and there's no reason to place one Gina above the other in importance. Sam's case is a bit more clear as to who is the "important" one.

As for how the name appears in appearances templates, I don't know if there's a standard. I'm not a big fan of putting in the bracketed parts, and I try to only do it when it's necessary to distinguish one from the other. In other words, I think it's fine to have the text just read "Gina", "Eric" or "Sam" when they appear. If they appear in a medium in which a doppelgänger appears (like when two Sams appeared--one after the other, no less!--in The Eclipse, Part 2), then I think it's good practice to use the parenthetical name. Otherwise, I'd leave it off. That's my take on it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:53, 30 January 2009 (EST)

    • Alright, I guess Sam can be kept as is then. Another thing I noticed, and it's abit on the reverse of what I posted earlier. It seems like when we have a character named only by the first name (ie David or Jim), we give the character the page David/Jim. In that case, shouldn't Eric (iStory) and Snake (Africa) be at Eric and Snake respectively? Those two pages are currently redirects to Eric (disambig) and Snake (disambig). I would've moved them, but I need the two redirects to be deleted so that history can be preserved. --Radicell 04:53, 31 January 2009 (EST)
      • I wouldn't have any problem with that. I'll take of the moves in a moment. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:04, 31 January 2009 (EST)

Chris Cross or ChrisCross

This is going to sound silly but does the graphic artist Chris Cross have a space between his names? I ask because there are links that have his name as "ChrisCross" and others with "Chris Cross". I will make his page once I find this out :) Thanks --laughingdevilboy 08:27, 31 January 2009 (EST)

  • I know I've purposely linked both. The artist goes by ChrisCross with no space. That's how he is officially credited, that's how he has it on his MySpace page, and that's how he's credited in most of his works. For Almost Famous, he was credited as Chris Cross with a space (see here). That's how the name should appear on the Almost Famous page. I don't really have too much of a preference for which way the title of the article about him appears, though I'm prone to have pages about real people appear the way they prefer--in this case, that's ChrisCross. Also, his real name is Chris Williams, so that should be a redirect to the article. Incidentally, I've had some contact with Chris, so if you need a hand writing the page, let me know. Otherwise, you can write it, and I'll just add a few things when you're done. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:19, 31 January 2009 (EST)
    • I have created the page and added two redirects, I couldn't find his date of birth or place of birth. I did not want to put false information down. I think everything else is ok. Oh I did not know how you would do the sort option so put ChrisCross. :) --laughingdevilboy 16:40, 31 January 2009 (EST)
      • Thanks, the page looks good. I'm not quite sure how to sort it, either. Should we try Cross, Chris? I'm trying to think of how people would search for his name. (Luckily, both parts of his name begin with C.) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:43, 31 January 2009 (EST)
        • I am not sure, I think that Cross, Chris could be something people may search but I am sure leaving it as ChrisCross wont do any harm. :) --laughingdevilboy 16:46, 31 January 2009 (EST)
