Back to work on the wiki

The last few weeks have been a huge mess at school, but I think I'm back to working on this wonderful site now that I got a few exams off my shoulders. I'm going to start patrolling again (in fact, doing so now) and help with some season three stuff. Personally, I think all the top contributors should start tackling stubs and redlinks during the off-season so we can have a complete and clean site by the time the next season starts airing. By the way, I missed you guys ;-).--Citizen 12:47, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

  • Welcome back, Citizen. We missed you too. ;)--MiamiVolts (talk) 16:02, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
    • Welcome back! I was glad to see you editing again yesterday and today. You know, you're absolutely right that we should start tackling those nagging stubs and red links. I'll put something on the community portal as a reminder. Thanks! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:32, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
      • Great idea. I was going to tell you this when you answered, but it looks like you've got everything under control. I had a lot of fun last Summer contributing to the Company arc articles, and I want that to happen again this year.--Citizen 18:37, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
        • Yeah, I'm excited about the summer arc. We're coming off a strong season, and there's no messy writers strike getting in the way. We've got very experienced graphic novel writers, and I think the quality of the writing has really improved since 2006 (not that it was ever bad, per se, just that it's gotten more intricate, nuanced, and in depth). I'm psyched to see what starts on Monday! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:26, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
      • Yeah i gave you a complement Citizen! Read It!! LOL! -HEROES WIKI FAN, --Pslover 18:51, 4 May 2009 (EDT)

Citizen is a very strong editor, why isn't he an admin yet? I know I don't contribute much here, but I browse the wiki a lot, and Citizen is a good patroller and has some very good user pages. I'd like to nominate him to be an admin. He's a strong, moral person, a good friend and a good editor. He should be an admin.--RideThatDonkey 15:18, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

  • Thanks for the suggestion, RTD. I agree that Citizen is a very strong editor. We'll take your comments into consideration the next time we look to promote a new administrator. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:30, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
    • Thanks, RideThatDonkey. As much as I'd like to administrate the site, I'd rather see the current admins pass judgment on this :-).--Citizen 18:39, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
      • I agree, in my books (without he cant block people) he is a admin, And a darn great one too Gabriel Bishop 11:21, 4 May 2009 (EDT)

The Unsung Heroes

I was just wondering if you could somehow raise awareness of my new creation, The Unsung Heroes and if you could also get people to enter the competition I would be very grateful. You could even enter yourself if you like! Thanks RGS.--Linderman Mendez (Time for cookies and milk!) 17:53, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

  • Thanks for the invite. I don't think I'm going to make an entry for the competition. I recently entered another competition, and I'm fresh out of ideas. Also, as camp is starting soon for me, school is ending, and I'm in the middle of graduate work, I'm knee deep with "stuff" to do. I'm also having some family issues at the moment, so I'm afraid I'll have to decline the offer. However, feel free to announce the competition at the community portal! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:57, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

Summer Graphic Novels

Hello! Do you have any idea who the summer graphic novels are going to be based on? And will we see Tracy killing her previous three victims?

Heroes Wiki Fan,

--Pslover 18:18, 1 May 2009 (EDT)Pslover

  • The only thing I remember reading was that we're going to see a lot of characters that we haven't seen since Season One. Personally, I hope that means we see really minor characters again, like Lloyd, Kin Egami, and Rosetti...but I have a feeling that the comment was more along lines of people like Eden, Claude, and Zach (which would be cool, too). Other than that, no, I don't really know who the subjects of the graphic novels will be. But I wait with baited breath for Zach Craley and Dennis Calero's comic on Monday! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 18:22, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
    • Won't the Summer arc technically start on Monday? Can't wait! The Company arc last year was very good and started around the same time as this year's arc.--Citizen 18:38, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
      • Yes, Monday. (Did I say something different?)
    • I actually heard from some interview (maybe BTE)that it's mostly about Micha.--OutbackZack 18:43, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
      • Hmm, I haven't heard that. Cool, though--he's one of my favorites. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:27, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
        • Yeah, wherever I heard it from they talked about them doing a Rebel storyline for the summer. So it would make sense when they said they'll bring back a lot of characters we haven't seen. Like what they did with West in that one storyline. --OutbackZack 12:51, 2 May 2009 (EDT)

Graphic Novel Spoilers

I know you post Graphic Novels under Spoiler:Other but recently there have not been any new ones. Does NBC post weekly spoilers about each novel?

Heroes Wiki Fan, --Pslover 18:48, 1 May 2009 (EDT)Pslover

  • They actually never post spoilers. Most of those small tidbits come from BTE articles and artist/writer posts at 9thWonders.--Citizen 18:52, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
    • Well i think they should have Tracy! --Pslover 19:04, 1 May 2009 (EDT)Pslover
      • I think with that little tease they gave us in the final moments of 325, I think we'll be seeing more of Tracy! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:29, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

Sylar Song!

                                 **Animal I Have Become**

So what if you can see the darkest side of me? No one will ever change this animal I have become Help me believe it's not the real me Somebody help me tame this animal (This animal, this animal)

I can't escape myself (I can't escape myself) So many times i've lied (So many times i've lied) But there's still rage inside Somebody get me through this nightmare I can't control myself

So what if you can see the darkest side of me? No one will ever change this animal I have become Help me believe it's not the real me Somebody help me tame this animal I have become Help me believe it's not the real me Somebody help me tame this animal

Somebody help me through this nightmare I can't control myself Somebody wake me from this nightmare I can't escape this hell

  • The deleted scenes from the Season One DVD are one of the things that need to be added this summer (see here). You can find a description of some of the deleted scenes on the episode pages (like Episode:Fallout#Trivia). In your message above, though, you sound as though we can add videos. We can't--we'll just be adding summaries of the scenes. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:35, 1 May 2009 (EDT)
    • I started this last year and never got around to finishing it. Feel free to continue with it, as it contains only sixteen of the fifty or so deleted scenes of the first season. I might continue with this project when school ends.--Citizen 20:50, 1 May 2009 (EDT)

References to Films : Crow Serie

I uploaded some photos but i can't find now.If somebody can watch it he/she will see there are a lot of similarities like hiro's time freezing sound or matt's telepathy sound and some of the powers comes from there. And some of the memorable quotes comes from here like sylar says to danko "you shouldn't smoke this,it will kill you" in crow 1 brandon lee says that.I mean iis there anybody can help me my english is not so good and for editing a page you must know english. Please somebody watch these films and make a page about crow.. — Nbcheroes 14:41, 2 May 2009 (EDT)

  • The photos are all on your page User:Nbcheroes/The Crow. Incidentally, you will need to add the source and a category for all those images, or else they will be deleted. If you need help with that, let me know. Thanks. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:22, 2 May 2009 (EDT)

Tracy under depressed or lonely category

Shouldn't Tracy be under the depressed or loneliness category? Remember when she was on the phone and it froze so she started crying and then committed suicide?

Heroes Wiki Fan,

--Pslover 16:42, 2 May 2009 (EDT)

  • I'm assuming you mean the page about depression, and not a category. Yes, she absolutely should. Feel free to add her. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:48, 2 May 2009 (EDT)

I tried to add Tracy's pearl necklace to the jewelry page but i seriously messed up! Could someone help me or do it for me? Please and Thank You!

Luke Campbell

Hi Ryan, I was wondering if he will return for new season. He is quite interesting character and it would be shame if he didnt return. I loved his hate/love relationship with Sylar. I would like to see more of it. Hopwas2007 03:55, 3 May 2009 (EDT)

  • I would too! I have no idea if he'll be returning. I don't work hard to avoid spoilers in most cases, but I certainly don't go looking for them or asking around for them. However, I do know that the writers are only just kicking around ideas at this point, and I don't think anything is finalized. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 14:23, 3 May 2009 (EDT)

New blog in town

Now that Greg Beeman has left Heroes and his blog has ended, I think we should replace the BB link of the main page to the one of new blogger Oliver Grigsby. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 01:54, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

  • I also think he's going to do a 9th Wonders blog each week about the latest graphic novel. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 01:57, 5 May 2009 (EDT)
    • I think Ollie's blog is an excellent idea for us to replace Beeman's Blog. Of course, I'd like to see his blog in action a bit...but knowing Ollie, it'll be very consistent, very detailed, and a great read. Why don't you suggest it at the community portal? Let me know when you post it so I can give my support more publicly. Hey, and thanks for bringing the blog to my attention! :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 02:08, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

Ok, so I want to change my background color on my Userpage... How do I do that??--Pslover 18:16, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

  • On the page, or on the infobox? I'm not quite sure how to change the colors on the page--that would require some code that I don't really care to figure out, to be honest. :) But to change the colors of your infobox, use the variables listed at Template:User infobox#Usage. Specifically, you'll want it to say
{{User infobox
| background color = NEW COLOR HERE
| background border = NEW COLOR HERE
| blurb color = NEW COLOR HERE
| blurb border = NEW COLOR HERE
| about color = NEW COLOR HERE
| about border = NEW COLOR HERE

Why don't you play around with it a bit and see what you get when you experiment. If you're still having trouble, let me know and I'll help you out. Just let me know what colors you want. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:04, 5 May 2009 (EDT)

Gordon's ability

Hi there, I was looking at Gordon's ability and notice two names have their opposition disproved (therefore valid) and one with no discussion underneath, do you think this could go to a vote now or should we leave it a little while longer? The three names in question are all variations of each other (Sand transmustion, Reverse sand transmutation and Reverse sand mutation), what do you think? I wanted to check before I started a vote. --posted by Laughingdevilboy Talk 15:16, 6 May 2009 (EDT)

  • There's no need for a vote. Even though there are three names, there is one clear winner--the one that has never received any opposition. Since there's still an active conversation there (the last new opposition was by 345tom earlier today, and there was conversation there as early as two days ago), let's wait another day or two. Then I would say it goes to the clear favorite, assuming "reverse sand mutation" doesn't receive any opposition. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 19:02, 6 May 2009 (EDT)

User name correction

A new user (Aries Evanke) has moved his/her user page to the main namespace, probably not aware that user pages have to stay with the "User:" in it, I tried moving it back but it a page has to be deleted for it to happen, so only a sysop can do it. You'll also need to correct numerous moves the user did. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 19:59, 6 May 2009 (EDT)

There are a few weird comments about Tracy, under Talk:Tracy_Strauss... I think you should look at them and maybe delete them, maybe... The comments are toward the end! Thank You!--Pslover 21:18, 7 May 2009 (EDT)

    • They're comments about the, um, "attractiveness" of Tracy. --BoomerDay 22:51, 7 May 2009 (EDT)
      • Yes, I saw those. Unless I missed something, they're kind of inappropriate, but they're nothing that I think needs to be deleted or anything that requires administrative action. If somebody is offended, they should address it with the offenders. Matt's ability

Talk 13:17, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

    • Actually, LDB is right. When there are multiple unopposed names--and no clear favorite--a traditional vote can be held. Since there are three unopposed names, a vote can be held. (I have yet to work on Help:Consensus checks to clarify some of these finer points...) However, in the case of Matt's ability, two of the names were pseudo opposed (they were opposed, but not for valid reasons, as determined by an administrator), so the "clear favorite" is the third choice, activation and deactivation. I'll go ahead and move the page now. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 16:41, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

Dear Ryan

Do you know when Volume 5 will air? Also will there be a graphic novel each Tuesday until then? Cheers

PS Cute kids

  • Thanks. In the three years or so since Monsters was released, I believe there have only ever been two times where a graphic novel was not released. Both of those were in the early days of Heroes, so I foresee a new graphic novel being released every single week. I hope that's the way it actually pans out. We've been very fortunate to have a good run for the last two summers! As far as when Volume 5 will air, I'm not sure there's a date set quite yet--or at least I haven't heard one. I believe it will be in September, though. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:27, 12 May 2009 (EDT)

You might want to check out articles that are stubs and need to be expanded, or articles that need to be created. Let me know if you have any specific questions about how things work around here. My idea

what do you of a compettion in heroes wiki, within a fun page, we can include quizzes to test your heroes knowledge etc. Thoughts

--Danko 13:00, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

Talk 13:26, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

We've got all serious stuff here on Heroes Wiki, lots of facts but not much trivia. I thought on one page we should have some fun + interesting things different from the rest of the website. We can include a competition, trivia, a weekly 'Did You Know?', possibly a little quiz and a forum open to all.

What do you think? --Danko 14:43, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

    • The wiki isn't really a place for forum-like discussion. It's mainly a resource for us to get to know and understand the show. There is a 'Did You Know' section that could use some updating, on the main page. But aside from that, 9th Wonders exists for the things you suggest.--MiamiVolts (talk) 15:50, 14 May 2009 (EDT)

Check it out and expand!

Canon Analysis/Fan Concepts

Hi Ryan, I just thought I'd mentioned something. In the Fan creation portal there is a category called canon analysis. Half the articles in this category are fan created concepts. The other half are based on canon, yet they still carry the fan creation banner that say they is not canon. I think we should move the fan concepts to their own category in the portal, as they dont analyse canon, and use a new banner for the true canon analysis' (I've created a banner, as well as an infobox, and used it on two of my pages). I know it sounds a bit excessive but the fan creation banner on canon-based pages is misleading and I've been trying to find a place for my pages. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 08:29, 15 May 2009 (EDT)

  • I think this is a great idea. The portal and the banner look good. A few quick notes: Saving the World: A Guide to Heroes is a fan creation book. I'd rather see it in Portal:Fan Creations. Also, Image:Analysis.jpg is a portal image, and a new image with the correct background and size will have to be uploaded for the banner. Other than that, everything looks good! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 23:59, 15 May 2009 (EDT)
    • In regards to the message you left on the Fan Canon Analysis talk page, I had got the impression from this discussion that it would be OK to create a new portal for Fan Concepts. Can we at least put sub-headings on the Canon Analysis portal to separate the two sections? Sorry for any confusion on my part. --Elemental Manipulator [ U | T | C ] - When in doubt, ask BTE 03:28, 18 May 2009 (EDT)

Possible vandal

Sylarpwnz made some edits, four to Sylar and one to Peter, the four to Sylar were ok, even unneeded additions to Memorable Quotes, but the one to Peter's page certainly constitutes vandalism. Intuitive Empath - Talk - Contributions 15:32, 15 May 2009 (EDT)

Ok, sorry about that, I will redo that all now, so you don't have too. Also were all the pages I added manipulation disambig too correct? I tried to pick pages that had the word manipulate in the lead sentence. --posted by Laughingdevilboy Talk 09:11, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

  • Oh, it's not something you need to be sorry about--just a helpful tip for the future. Sorry if I sounded like I was correcting...I was just trying to give a good tip. :) All the pages sound good to me. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:12, 16 May 2009 (EDT)
    • I know it was a tip, you don't do telling off haha. I think, if it is OK with you, I am going to check every ability as most disambigs are not using that method, hence why I got it wrong. I think this could help stop a repeat performance lol. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 09:19, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

      • Awesome. Yeah, for some reason, those ability pages never really caught on to using that template. If you need me to update template:seealsodisambig, let me know. :) Thanks, LDB! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:21, 16 May 2009 (EDT)
        • One more thing, the see also section, it is See Also or See also? as it seems to differ on each page. Also is there a certain order in which the sections should go? Notes then trivia then see also for example. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 09:28, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

          • Section headings are always capitalized, so it's "See Also". And the order for examples pages should be Examples, Quotes, Notes, Trivia, See Also. See Help:Layout#Article Layout. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 09:33, 16 May 2009 (EDT)
            • I was just thinking, why is there no template for powers? Also while looking at the help, it says examples are a bulleted list, however the power pages seem to use images instead, does this mean they are classed as a gallery? --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 09:38, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

              • What kind of template are you referring to for powers? ... I'll take a look at the help page and see if it needs to be updated. We used to use just a list of examples, and would use pictures more sparingly on the powers pages. But as time has gone by, we've used a lot more images--even exclusively in many cases. But yes, if there are pictures on the page, it should be put in Category:Galleries. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 12:46, 16 May 2009 (EDT)
                • I tried to update the ability pages, but got annoyed. If there are images will I put it under the section heading gallery? Just most of the pages have the heading examples which is linked to the other example pages. Also I meant when you click on a red link and the bars come up for the page to help you create, there isn't one for abilities. Just thought it could be helpful. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 12:59, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

                  • Oh, you must be talking about Template:Newarticletextbuttons. That template's a bit "full", with lots and lots of buttons on it already...Let me see if I can figure something out. As for the abilities pages, I think the main problem with them is that they get edited so frequently that the integrity of the layout is sometimes compromised. Plus, it's a very different layout than most other pages' on the wiki, so I can understand your frustration with it. Basically, 8-12 images go under a section called "Examples". If there is an examples page (like examples of telepathy), then only 8 images go under a section called "Selected Examples". Then come Quotes, Notes, Trivia, See Also. If there's a group of pages you think needs to be scrubbed clean and you want me to do it, just let me know which pages, and I'll get on it. Thanks, LDB! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:07, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

Talk 13:35, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

                      • Could you have a look at clairsentience, intuitive aptitude, neurocognitive deficit, primal rage just to see if the written examples and the page in general is OK. Also I think more examples need to be added to precognition, mental manipulation, but I wasn't sure if there was a reason there were less than 8 examples. Space-time manipulation might need checking, as Hiro's power has been after the examples, I was thinking it could be added above it or added with Hiro's natural ability. Also I thought of another disambig, but don't know what to call it or if you would allow it. It is a dsiambig about eye colour changing while using an ability. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

                          • What do you think of the disambig suggestion? Maybe eye colour changing or maybe I could create an eye alteration disambig, which would include the eye alteration page or would I add the eye alteration page to the see also instead?. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 18:34, 16 May 2009 (EDT)

                            • The disambig suggestion is good...but it doesn't need to go in the see also section of each of those power pages. But I think this has already been taken care of... -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:22, 18 May 2009 (EDT)

What I wanted to know was whether there's any information about Some Things Happen anywhere else on the web, or is Heroes Wiki the only website that has any information about it? In other words, do you have a link to another website? -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:31, 18 May 2009 (EDT)
    • Yes, Heroes Wiki is the only website that has any information about Some Things Happen. I'm alone on this project so it's very hard to be quick and efficient but don't worry i'll update the heroes wiki page, as soon as I can. Fusoku 14:57, 19 May 2009
      • No worries about speed or efficiency, Fusoku. I'm a teacher with a family, so I'm certainly not as quick and efficient as I'd like to be. I'm more concerned about the wiki being the only place where there's information about the series. That, coupled with the fact that nothing has been released yet, makes me think that we probably shouldn't have a page in the main namespace about it until after there's some substantial information about it. Generally, the wiki is a place to archive what's on the web, not the place where fan content should be created. In the meantime, I've moved the article to your user namespace (User:Fusoku/Some Things Happen), and it can be moved back out after there's significant information that exists off the web. Thanks! -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 22:38, 19 May 2009 (EDT)

Question About Examples of Powers Pages

Okay, so this may be a dumb question, (but, screw it, I'm going to ask it, anyway): Is the concept for the Examples of Powers pages to show only notable examples of an ability (whether memorable or a new aspect of the ability) or to show each and every time that an ability is shown/used? Because, if it is the latter, I have noticed that not all of the Examples pages do do that, particularly the super speed and electric manipulation pages (granted, I'm sure that any screen shot taken of super speed must be incredibly difficult to extract clearly, due to the very nature of the ability).--ElleFanBoy 22:46, 21 May 2009 (EDT)

Tracy's Victim

Just to say under Tracy's victims it states that Tracy tried and failed to freeze Danko at the start of A Clear and Present Danger. The manin question survived due to his insulated suit, however was it Danko? (I am sorry if it was and I am just talking nonsense). -- By Danko CH 14:10, 24 May 2009 (EDT)

As Tracy dresses, she notices the bathroom window is open. After closing and locking it, she turns to see a man in a commando outfit. She grabs his arm and tries to freeze him but can't since he is insulated. She tries to run into the living room where she finds other armed men.

So join the debate to determine whether this is Danko.TracyCantFreeze.jpg--

Talk 17:01, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

              • Okay, all three of those templates are working. Basically, you start the template with either "CH link", "LM link", or "white link" (for the main namespace). Then you use a pipe and specify just the subpagename. Then another pipe if you want the white text to be different than the subpagename. Here are some examples:
Typing... Gets you...
{{LM link|Characters/Sonny|Sonny}} Sonny
{{CH link|Characters/Consuela Hammock|The coolest character ever}} The coolest character ever
{{CH link|The team}} The team
{{white link|London, England}} London, England
{{white link|Claude|an invisible man}} an invisible man
{{white link|User:Cockney Heroes/Characters/Sonny|Sonny}} Sonny
{{white link|User:Lost Memoirs/Custom}} User:Lost Memoirs/Custom

Play around with it and let me know if it works for you. If you don't need it, then let me know so I can delete it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:17, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

    • Cool, glad it works for you. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 17:35, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
      • Don't forget that the CH link and LM link templates need to be moved to the userspace since they are user project templates. On Wikipedia and some other wikis, you can create a page at User:Username/monobook.css to override the style shown for that user's pages--that allows you to change things like link color, etc. However, I don't think Admin has enabled that here.--MiamiVolts 18:53, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
        • If we need to move it to the username space then you might as well delete the CH and LM ones, as it kind of defeats the purpose lol, so it would be easier to just use the white link one. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 19:00, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

          • Well, it helps to have a user template so you don't have to copy the code to multiple pages. I'm not sure why you'd not think that useful. PS: Just noticed the white link template is also defined as a user template. It will have to be moved as well or redefined/redescribed.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:11, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
            • Well the templates have the code so we don't have to put User:Cockney Heroes but if we move to the userspace wont this defeat the object? as we would have to type User:Cockney Heroes/white link instead of CH link. Also I don't know about the white link, we could move it to the userspace. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 19:37, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

              • The best option is make the template generic so everyone can use it, and properly document it. I mean, you could move one of them to Template:Linkcolor and add options to set the link font. It's a little more work, but that makes it a much more friendly template. :) You could also call it Template:UserLinkColor and add the feature that if the template is used in the userspace, it searches for a userspace link.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:57, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

I have a problem with the new template, it works great on the info boxes but when I added it to here it turned everything white, I thought I had done something wrong so tried it by only changing one link to white but the whole page turned white. Can this be fixed or will it not work on bulleted lists? --posted by Laughingdevilboy Talk 18:23, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

  • All three templates Ryan just made are missing the closing font tag "</font>", which could be your problem. Also, since you are having so many links on the page, you should be wary of running into the problem of too many template calls, which will cause your text not to print correctly or at all.--MiamiVolts (talk) 19:11, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
    • Thanks, I was going to look at the template but got sidetracked. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

Talk 19:37, 30 May 2009 (EDT)

  • Why do templates used on user pages need to be moved to the user namespace? I've never understood that. It kind of defeats the purpose of having template calls automatically not needing the template namespace. Isn't it easier to type {{CH link}} instead of {{User:Cockney Heroes/CH link}}? Plus, the template namespace is not the main namespace, nor is it automatically included in searches. I don't see the harm in it. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:17, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
    • The template namespace is for functions meant for everyone to use. User templates shouldn't be in the main template namespace, just as user pages shouldn't be in the mainspace. If we start allowing everyone to put their custom template in the template namespace, it could be troublesome to search the template namespace to figure out which template is the one you want. Templates used on user pages can be in the template namespace as long as they aren't exclusive and are properly documented.--MiamiVolts (talk) 20:44, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
      • I don't see any issue with allowing users to create templates in the template namespace. Templates aren't created left and right like user pages are, and in my opinion, having a few extra templates in the template namespace won't really clog things up too much. But that's just my opinion... :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 21:48, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
        • I guess the key word there is "few". I see more and more people making signature templates and user nav templates, and disagree with your assessment.--MiamiVolts (talk) 23:22, 30 May 2009 (EDT)
          • I think the white link should stay in main space as other people may want it. But if we do need to move the templates for CH and LM, then I think you should check all the templates to make sure they are not user templates. Anyways thanks for your help Ryan. I will see what I can do in regards of making the white link use any colour. --posted by Laughingdevilboy

I'll add an example to the table above. -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 13:23, 31 May 2009 (EDT)

Trevor's power

OK that was probably a bit of a premature move but it just seems like a clean cut thing to me, for example, here's a short transcript of a bit of that talk page:

Shattering -> Molecular Combustion

Does anyone of you remember the show Charmed.

This show also had abilities etc. There was one ability the middle sister had, Piper. She could put molecules in a temporal stasis, freezing time. But later on in the show she could also increase their speed, causing them to combust, explode. Due to this she could cause explosions.

So my question or idea is to call this ability Molecular Combustion. Cuz shattering doesn't quite put this ability into one name.

Molecular Combustion... going once, going twice? DarthYotho 08:01, 12 November 2008 (EST)

  • I don't think we can reasonably conclude that this is how Trevor's ability works, nor do I think the term is in sufficiently common use to justify invoking Naming Convention rule 4. --Ted C 17:23, 12 November 2008 (EST)

Actually the heroes offical magazine reerred to it as this. And yes I also watch Charmed and I too can see that Trevor's ability looks exactly the same as Piper's (which is molecular combustion) the objects blow up in the same way, they both have to use hand gestures to make it work. I think form this we can safely use Molecular Combstion as the name. Any objections?

I also beg to differ about naming convention rule four, I mean, what's wrong with calling it Molecular Combustion? Its better than "Trevor's ability" and the name is from another work where the power looks exactly the same, even down to how its triggered (hand gestures).

Also I'd think the Heroes Official Magazine name would come under either rule 2 or 3, that means there are three rules supporting this name under the naming convention as opposed to th other which don't have much of a leg to stand on, shouldn't that be enough?

Wiccid 19:35, 31 May 2009 (EDT)

Now, the point I was trying to make here is that Mol. Combustion has been used as the name in the heroes official magazine, shouldn't that be enough to rename it to Mol. Combustion under rules 2 or 3 under the naming conventions rules?

And also, the show wp:Charmed used this name to refer to piper's power. In Charmed Pipers power and Trevor's look exactly the same, i.e. the objects explode the same way, both characters need to use hand gestures to activate it and if their hands are restrained they they can't use it. Surely that should also invoke rule 4 of the aming conventions thingy?

very confused here :S Wiccid 20:03, 31 May 2009 (EDT)

  • Even though the magazine uses the term "Official" in its name, it's not an official canon or even near canon source. In fact, unless we know who wrote the article, I wouldn't even necessarily consider it a reliable source any more than I would consider an article in the New York Times an official source. It's not "official" unless the information comes from a writer, producer, or maybe some other crew member. But this is really a discussion that belongs on Talk:Electric manipulation, not on my talk page. I've commented there, but you deleted my comment. I assume that was because of an edit conflict, so I restored the comment so you can read it. Also, on an unrelated note, please make sure you put new discussion threads on the bottom of talk pages. It helps to use the "plus sign" tab at the top of the discussion pages. :) -- RyanGibsonStewart (talk) 20:12, 31 May 2009 (EDT)
