In [[The Agent chapter summaries#Chapter 409|chapter 9 of The Agent]], Barbara gets out of a tank full of water in the back tent of a circus. She then begins unzipping from her back down the part of her costume that makes her legs look like the tail of a fish. Then, she spots [[Anna Korolenko|Anna]] in the tent and shouts out for [[Doug]], telling him that a kid is in the tent. A short while later, Doug informs Anna that the government is coming for everyone but himself, and the mermaid performer, who is now out of her costume and standing on both feet, cups her hands. The air inside her hands turns to water, which leaks through her fingers onto the ground. Some time later, the mermaid performer huddles with Anna and the other circus performers in the dark. She and everyone else freeze as they spot lots of people moving around quietly outside. |

In chapter 9 of The Agent, Barbara gets out of a tank full of water in the back tent of a circus. She then begins unzipping from her back down the part of her costume that makes her legs look like the tail of a fish. Then, she spots Anna in the tent and shouts out for Doug, telling him that a kid is in the tent.
